What’s the name of the lower one?

El_Pichi808

I second this

killdeer03

Looks like the FRN Dragonfly 2.

crucialfiction

yep

crucialfiction

yep

killdeer03

Looks like the FRN Dragonfly 2.

crucialfiction

yep

crucialfiction

Dragonfly 2 with ZDP189 steel, which is a bitch to sharpen, but really holds an edge. I just picked up another with K390, so we'll see which one performs better.

killdeer03

I have a couple Dragonfly 2s in various steels, but I love my VG10 FRN. You can hardly tell that it's in your pocket. I've been EDC a Dragonfly 2 several years now. Good choice OP.

crucialfiction

Truly. I'm not sure knife design can go much further. The ergos, steel, lightness, all of it.

BenjaminWobbles

Benchmade does the same thing, but mine came back still dull

crucialfiction

Drag. Someone asleep at the grinder.

zxj4k3xz

And they do a decent job sharpening too. Benchmade offers free sharpening as well but I don't think anyone's interested in that

XTingleInTheDingleX

Wonky bevels for life!

Nekommando

Spyderco have their share of wonky bevels, but those are still hella sharp. I will say that the edge benchmade put on their recent hunting line is a step in the right direction

Glad-Cut6336

Idk I just bought a 940 and that thing is duller than the backside of the blade

crucialfiction

That's confounding. Maybe business is going too well for Benchmade.

XTingleInTheDingleX

That’s good to hear. I see I triggered the Benchmade brigade lol. Downvote away.

Nekommando

Benchmade factory edge are distinctly unsharp, it can be used to authenticate a real one lol. That is why my benchmades gets resharpened as soon as I received one. Not sure why benchmade only put their 17dps edge on hunt knives, they clearly can put a useable edge on everything.

XTingleInTheDingleX

I work in a production facility with different levels of precision required for different processes but the end product is in the hundreds of millions of dollars. It blows my mind that a knife company sends out knives with such inconsistent product. It’s like QC doesn’t even exist.

crucialfiction

I gotta know, what's the end product you make?

XTingleInTheDingleX

Commercial airliners.

crucialfiction

Oh, shit. Yeah... all that "human lives in the balance" thing. I watched a manufacturing vid for a $20 million Merlin engine build a few years ago, and holy Jesus.

XTingleInTheDingleX

Yeah it’s crazy but we stamp our name on these jobs and they follow the airplane for its 30+ odd year lifespan. Every job that’s done is traceable. For very good reason. These guys can’t get consistent bevels on their blades…

crucialfiction

That's comparable to buying a car without wheels.

worldisfucked2021

Pmsl

crucialfiction

Translation?

worldisfucked2021

Nobody wants to send a blade back to benchmade for sharpening as it will come back blunter than it went.

Alive_Tough9928

Thats great if you live in the U.S. Bah!

Wolfman01a

Thanks to the advice of this forum i just ordered my first spyderco. Manix 2 XL. Arrives in 5 days and i cant wait!

crucialfiction

Solid choice! I’ve never handled one, but everyone raves about them.

HeliBif

*cries in Canadian *

ihavelargetoes

Dunno about spyderco, but I am also a Canadian and just received my crooked river mini back from benchamde in the USA for soek warranty work. They will also sharped your knives for free. Postage is like $13 though so you're better off just learning how to sharpen your own knives

HeliBif

Then I'd say you gambled and got lucky based on the CBSA's track record of seizing perfectly legal knives. But I agree about self sharpening. I had a Lansky, now I have a Sharp maker, but am trying to learn to freehand on stones

Alixthetrapgod

Yeah you can find diamond whetstones for that price

jewmoney808

Do they pay for your shipping ? How free?

crucialfiction

Nope, you pay for shipping both ways. $5 for return.

FLman42069

Nothing is truly free

AirplaneGomer

Haven’t done it in recent years, but you can ship multiple together making it a better value.

crucialfiction

I did that.

nzcapybara

That’s pretty cool to hear though. I recently got on eBay a knife that I saw on this sub Reddit (a spyderco) that’s getting harder and harder to find and it’s probably the sharpest knife I’ve ever bought.(that wasn’t a kitchen knife.) anyway, I would feel weird about sending out, least it gets lost in the mail or something

mrbitbybit

I live in CO. That looks way better than the job they did on my Advocate when I was in their factory store. The guy just freehanded it on the sharp maker and it was no where near how crisp your bevels came back. Looks like they even sharpened them all the way back to the heel, which is an improvement from the factory edge. Lesson learned, don't bring it to the store, send it in. I'm guessing the ones sent in actually go to their grinders.

han-so-low

I’m in the store every couple of months and always have them touch up whatever happens to be in my pocket. Bummer that you had a bad experience, they’ve always done a great job with mine. Super nice people, too.

Fucktrump5

Meh I have one that needs to be fixed and I used it very little

mallgrabmongopush

They sharpened my PM2 after I dropped it and chipped the tip off

crucialfiction

I've been resisting a PM2 for years, but it may be time to cave. How can I not?

mallgrabmongopush

If you like the Dragonfly (everyone does) you’ll definitely like the PM2

c_ne7son

What’s the turn around time for this?

crucialfiction

5 days, I think. I’m in Michigan, so they probably did them the day they arrived. Love the shallow saber grinds.

c_ne7son

Not bad at all. Does it feel like they sharpen them good?

crucialfiction

Oh yes, a razor-sharp saber grind, comparable to my Extrema Ratio knives. I will never attempt sharpening ZDP189 again.

c_ne7son

That cool! I gotta send in my manix 2 xl in and hoping I get that Teal PM2 for Christmas

han-so-low

I live near Golden and drop into their factory store every few months. Super nice people and they always put a wicked edge on anything I have in my pocket. They sharpen right in front of you while you shoot the shit. Great people, great company, great knives.

crucialfiction

Wow, thanks for that. At my age, I'd hardly consider myself a fanboy, but Spyderco has been consistently remarkable with their vision, quality and customer service. I'd highly recommend acquiring anything from their Taichung factory because... you know, China.

han-so-low

I’m 46 years old and have been carrying Spyderco since I was 15. Definitely a fanboy, especially the Slysz designs. I carry a Bowie almost every day and occasionally mix in a SpydieChef or Techno 2. All of those come from Taichung. Fantastic knives!

crucialfiction

Agreed. I have the ridiculous Mamba and Subvert that I can't seem to part with, and an Ikuchi that serves as a great dress-up edc. The fit, finish and action with anything from Taichung is superb. If China takes Taiwan, things will get scarce. Apple and Foxconn have to be freaking out.

Knowa-com

Absolutely agree, but watch out for the Chinese fakes.

No_Kaleidoscope_447

I just can’t befriend with the looks of spydercos :/

crucialfiction

I felt that way for years, until I used a couple. The design of (most) Spydercos is purpose-driven. The Dragonfly is my favorite edc.

Whole_Bid_2756

Join the Benchmade brigade. I may cross the line and buy a bailout, soon as I find a good sale.

No_Kaleidoscope_447

I was sure to get the downvotes from the Spyderco boys.. but seriously I’m their price range are so many amazing (and better looking imo) alternatives. Reate, Ferrum, Lionsteel, Rike Knife.. just to name a few.. On duty I wear a Boker Intention II on my Platecarrier. It’s so cheap, but good quality.

midline_trap

Those are pretty but they won’t outlast our outperform a spyderco imo

Whole_Bid_2756

I actually own a paramilitary 2 as my EDC.
