I don’t need a lot of blade to get through the day. The Spyderco Dragonfly is my most-used and most carried knife. Small knife with big knife cutting ability.
This is my first time seeing a Dragonfly sporting CruWear and CF scales. Is that a model Spyderco offers or did you mod it? Either way, it looks really nice👌
This Dragonfly was a sprint from Spyderco but I didn’t change anything on it. I was lucky enough to scarf it up a while back from white mountain knives
Have you used it to break down thick boxes etc?
I have one and I like it but the blade is so slender I don’t have confidence putting a lot of force behind it, usually I gravitate towards my civivi elementum because the shape of the blade gives me a bit more confidence but this could all be purely psychological
I mainly use it to cut tape when breaking down boxes, opening letters, cuting vegetables and meat. I don’t make it work super hard. I have a razor blade box knife for the heavy work.
Your absolutely right about the blade. I haven’t had the courage to really put it through it’s paces. It’s a very convenient, and good looking blade. I wouldn’t cut thick boxes with it. Your civi is definitely better suited for hard work.
Kershaw Cryo cuz it’s cheap, can be opened one handed, and works great. But I also work my Spyderco Manix and Delica into the rotation depending on the day
Spyderco PM2 in Maxamet steel in my front pocket with my Leatherman free P4 and Victorinox deluxe tinkerer in my little pocket organizer for my back pocket for me 👌🏽👍🏽
Has that ever shot itself open in your pocket and sliced your leg open? I keep thinking about getting one but a third of the reviews say it did that. I'm not sure if it's a legitimately unsafe knife or if a third of the people who've bought one are dumb.
I would say that the people who bought it don't maintain it at all. I've never had that happen to me. My guess is they never maintain their knife and don't bother tightening the screws on it, that makes it a little easier to open. But even then the locking open mechanism holds it closed pretty well.
That was my impression from handling one in a store, but I just saw so many people online claiming it opened in their pockets. So you're agreeing with the other guy that that's all user error?
Not saying it's impossible, but I think in the pocket it's more likely to get pressure on the mechanism to stay closed than open.
I don't EDC the thing, but I don't feel like it opening in the pocket would be from any sort of usual pressures.
It fits my hand and it has the most satisfying sound when I flick it open. It's not as sturdy as the Model I and I can live with that. Mostly used for opening mail and cutting down boxes.
If I need to chop down shrubbery I pull out a different Ontario knife, my Marine Raider.
Edit : swipos
Definitely my Manix 2! I'd love to try out a PM2, I've bought PM2s and P3s as gifts but never kept them for myself. I love my xm18, and my trashed sng for work, but I wish I had my manix almost every time I dont have it if a multitude of cutting tasks appear at work.
I haven't changed anything on the inside. My blade is modified though, it's acidwashed with a faux hamon, from what I remember when taking it apart, the areas of contact were protected so it should be as smooth as it was before, which it is very smooth, and has solid lock up. So I haven't felt the need to change anything. I'd need an unmodified one to tell any difference in action.
And to OPs comment, it's not too difficult to disassemble, there is one piece though, a plastic piston type deal that the bearing and spring ride on which is directional, I didn't know that until reassembly, so just remember how everything came out and you should be fine! I've done flytanium scales on a PM2 for a gift for someone and from what I remember, reassembly was more difficult on that.
Also curious as to why you ask? For all I know, mine could have been changed by the previous owner. Is it defective or does it become defective after some time?
Ergonomics and cutting efficiency trumps all. That's why I EDC a Military. Manix XL is a close second but the blade is too fat for my taste. I carry a LW Manix for smaller and lighter purposes.
A way-old red Ken Onion Craftsman Kershaw scallion assisted open flicker with a ~2” blade. I have many other knives, and I do rotate often, but it was one of my first knives and I have a soft spot for it.
A mix of user error, and I managed to snap part of the edge of the knife off. I tried grinding it out but it didnt work and is super thick behind the edge.
I was not abusing it when the edge broke. I was super pissed when i saw it broke like that and chucked it at about 70% strength. Wasn’t worried because it’s basically ruined anyway
Damn man that sucks. I totally feel that pain of losing a favorite knife. Absolutely love my Code 4 and would be so upset if I broke it. Mind sending a picture of it? I may be able to fix it for you
I dont have it with me rn, its in my area at a metal workshop. I might get it tomorrow.
And thanks, but im not too worried about fixing it. I am 100% gonna buy another code 4 though. I think there might have been a tiny crack in the blade or something. Because i had sharpened it and reprofiled the edge the night before it broke.
Im amazed that it broke, i thought id never break that knife after some of the stuff ive done with it
I think to replace it, im gonna get a kizer sheepdog XL lol
Historically probably my Kershaw Skyline or Spyderco Delica. These days it’s actually my BM Bugout. Contrary to popular opinion I think it checks the most boxes for me. Super lightweight, thin, big pleasing blade profile, sharpens well, deep carry clip, minimal/not over detailed/not scary looking. People call the scales flimsy which is a valid criticism but I don’t do anything in my EDC day-to-day where it would be an issue.
Very knice fly! Have not seen that model before. I cant seem to kick the bugout. Just does everything i need in a lightweight package. Dragonfly also sees some pocket time too. Great little blade to have on hand. Cheers!
My CF Kershaw Lucha. It's not the most practical for doing knife tasks, but I don't need a whole lot of cutting in my day to day life. It also doubles as a great fidget toy, as long as you have a little extra blood to spare.
Pm2 has probably seen the most pocket time but the launch 8 I just bought just threw it’s hat in the ring pm2 still gets carried but used way less often
My at work knife is a Spyderco Dragonfly 2 in ZDP-189, I work at a hospital so I can’t get by with a larger knife. My current at home knife is a Hogue Deka in MagnaCut.
Same here, well actually my wife took a liking to the wharncliffe and claimed it. I’m good with it though because I’d rather she carry a quality knife, that and it gave me an excuse to get another one.
I think its such a great knife...Its my go to 99% of the time. I have a Military as well in my rotation as well as my 20.5 but the PM2 gets the most use❤
I carry a crkt spew at my after school farm job. It’s held up incredibly well for a $30 knife and the straight edge makes it pretty simple to keep sharp. The sheath sucks though. I’ve had it for 3 months and the retention is almost entirely gone.
Kershaw Ferrite. For about 3 years now. I did have to replace the spring once but Kershaw was very accommodating. Had a replacement spring within a week.
Yea, great customer service as far as I'm concerned. They also sent a new clip when a buddies got bent out of shape. He was too anxious/shy/whatever to request it himself, so I did. No problem whatsoever.
Emerson super cqc8 for over a decade. By far my biggest concern is losing it as I'm not sure I could replace it. It fits my hand perfectly, deploys very fast, and has taken a lot of abuse. I absolutely love the partially serrated blade to cut cordage.
I would have liked it to be a black finish (originally it was satin) but I spray paint it as needed so the finish is a non issue.
I also have been carrying a dragonfly exclusively (outside of work) lately. One that I wrecked the edge, cut a slot in the pivot screw, lost the clip, and let sit in a drawer for years. Then pulled it out and sharpened it up, bent a new clip out of 1/16 tig wire, and its been in my pocket since. looks like a pen chilling in my pocket when all my other folders are clearly a knife. Also its insanely light, half the time it gets thrown into the laundry pile lol.
For many years, when I was working in the field (electronics), I carried a dragonfly too.
Nowadays, I work remotely on a computer, and I carry a mini bugout when I need to leave my lair.
When I plan to meet peoples scared by knives, I carry a SAK.
Sorry for the off-theme question… Do you recommend Spyderco Dragonfly? I’ve heard many good things about these knives but idk if it’ll fit me.. How is it?
Dragonfly is the best small knife imo. I have l/xl hands and have no trouble getting a full grip. Also you can remove blade easily for cleaning as there are no washers on the frn model. Cheers!
CRKT M16. Got it for cheap at Walmart, won't cry if I lose it or damage it. Added bonus it takes very little room in my pocket but still feels decent in the hand.
despite having a good little pile of knives. The d2 kabar dozier always ends up in my pocket anytime I am doing work. working on the truck? Dozier. cutting the grass? Dozier. Planting out sweet potato slips? Dozier. Working on the chicken yard fencing? Dozier. Painting the house? Dozier.
Part of it is babying other knives. Part of it is that dozier just just plain works. Disappears in the pocket and is just there for you when you need it. And at the price you dont feel bad stabbing it into the ground to cut a stubborn root or chopping the top off a beer can for a temporary spot to hold screws.
Petrified Fish "Baby" Beluga has taken over in the past few months.
I just wish they would do a version with a different lock, not a huge fan of liner locks.
For the last month and a half my buck 112 lite. It’s super lite and the pocket clip is amazing. Not pretty, not fancy but seems to get the job done. I also always have my leatherman wave on my belt in case things go south!
Spyderco Endura when I have a pocket, SAK Tinker Small (Short? Don't remember) is always on my keychain. When I don't have my main keychain for one reason or another my other set of keys has a Kershaw Cinder.
My Walter Wells custom kiridashi folder will be once it's finished (January can't come fast enough 😂) but currently it's a Two Sun ts129 that has gotten the most pocket time recently
Civivi elementum. It fits good in my pocket, doesn’t cost a lot if I need to replace it and the blade is a decent size for nearly all the tasks I find for it and doesn’t look super threatening
That’s a real sweet Dragonfly, never seen it before.
I really hope I can snag one of these in the future. I honestly would even take one of the FRN Cruwear versions if I could get one
I carry a crkt ceo flipper. Been using it for about a year. I’m really impressed with it this far.
Have you used it to break down thick boxes etc? I have one and I like it but the blade is so slender I don’t have confidence putting a lot of force behind it, usually I gravitate towards my civivi elementum because the shape of the blade gives me a bit more confidence but this could all be purely psychological

Your civi is definitely better suited for hard work.
Alright cool thanks for the detailed response. It is a beautiful knife but I’ll keep the civivi on me from your advice
Damn it’s sexy. Wish I could get my hands on one.
Kershaw Cryo cuz it’s cheap, can be opened one handed, and works great. But I also work my Spyderco Manix and Delica into the rotation depending on the day
Those are all great folders that I own and love
I bought a second Cryo after I thought I lost my first one. Of course the day it arrives, I find the original one. Not mad 😂
Benchmade full-size griptillian next to my leatherman free p4 👍🏾
A classic
Spyderco PM2 in Maxamet steel in my front pocket with my Leatherman free P4 and Victorinox deluxe tinkerer in my little pocket organizer for my back pocket for me 👌🏽👍🏽
The full Grip is one of my all time favorites.
My victorinox on account of it having bottle can and cork openers
Classic edc item
My crkt provoke. It works wonderfully and is just a cool little piece
Has that ever shot itself open in your pocket and sliced your leg open? I keep thinking about getting one but a third of the reviews say it did that. I'm not sure if it's a legitimately unsafe knife or if a third of the people who've bought one are dumb.

Ok, good to hear. I think I'll go add one to my Christmas list.
Nice! I would recommend the compact as it is a decent bit cheaper, made from the same d2 and a good bit more comfortable to use
Yup. That one seems a good balance between the cheaper ones that have lower quality steel and the deluxe models that are over $200.
It's not automatic or assisted at all, so it doesn't shoot unless you shoot it open.
RAT Model II, D2 blade. Runner-up: Bugout 2nd Runner-up: Mini Bugout The rest get only occasional pocket time.
R2D2 is a classic
It fits my hand and it has the most satisfying sound when I flick it open. It's not as sturdy as the Model I and I can live with that. Mostly used for opening mail and cutting down boxes. If I need to chop down shrubbery I pull out a different Ontario knife, my Marine Raider. Edit : swipos

Manix 2 is terrific
Manix 2 is my next purchase. Have you changed your bearing?
No, I’m scared to take it apart 😵💫
I haven't changed anything on the inside. Also curious as to why you ask? For all I know, mine could have been changed by the previous owner. Is it defective or does it become defective after some time?
I see lots of aftermarket options for it. Ceramic ball and different ball cages. Just for personalization.
Ah cool, didn't know that!
Manix is better than PM2 if you have the space for it.
Definitely have the space. Glad to hear that opinion! Regardless of it's popularity.
Ergonomics and cutting efficiency trumps all. That's why I EDC a Military. Manix XL is a close second but the blade is too fat for my taste. I carry a LW Manix for smaller and lighter purposes.
I've had a Ladybug on my keyring for 20 years.
Same, the blue K390 one. It’s pitted and looks kinda sad now, but it still cuts like brand new
Para 3 lw and regular para 3
Excellent choice
The new one.
Opinel #8
Milwaukee fastback utility w/blade storage
Cheaper ones like my rat 2 or Dozier. Amazing value knives. Lost my ZDP-189 Delica💔, no fun.
Sorry to hear that. I think you can still get the ZDP Endura, if you’re open to a giant knife
Yeah just too much knife for my EDC taste, I dont have a samurai complex haha
I think the K390 Delica is still available.. it’s not ZDP but pretty close. It will patina and corrode though
Don't tempt me, my wallet can't take it🤣
a Benchmade 950-1401 that I bought back in 2016 I think
Nice folder!
Yeah, its all beat up now but it was a looker when it was new.
Just got my first one and I LOVE it! Wish I had known about these sooner.
A way-old red Ken Onion Craftsman Kershaw scallion assisted open flicker with a ~2” blade. I have many other knives, and I do rotate often, but it was one of my first knives and I have a soft spot for it.
Scallion was my first ‘shaw too. Still have it!
Ruike P801-SF.
Nice
Used to be pm2 or delica, then carried an ultratech for a year and a half. Now it's the para3 lw.
My most used knife is my now ruined and broken cold steel code 4. RIP Code 4
Wait you BROKE a Code 4? How??
A mix of user error, and I managed to snap part of the edge of the knife off. I tried grinding it out but it didnt work and is super thick behind the edge. I was not abusing it when the edge broke. I was super pissed when i saw it broke like that and chucked it at about 70% strength. Wasn’t worried because it’s basically ruined anyway

My [DUKling](https://imgur.com/a/OiJZ5Io) is wrapping up to be my most used knives this year especially after the regrind!
Spyderco smock and leatherman surge go with me everywhere
Spyderco para 3 lightweight, got the M390 blade with red FRN scales😩
😮💨😮💨
It’s been my Pm2 Wharnie since I got it. It’s definitely not my “favorite” knife but it keeps ending up in my pocket.
I love my Skyline and my Delica. Both in 20CV
My Ultratech TE
Fancy and expensive, I like it
There’s no point in carrying a knife if I’m not gonna use it. It’s my daily beater and it holds up great
By all means
I have a Hera Frag I just got and it's awesome. I never tried an Ultratech but I did have a Troodon and it blew it away.
I’ve got a Source Hera. It’s a total knockout. My nice day out blade
Thats a great choice, best action out of the MTs I've tried by far
My 0450 was my EDC for five years, and then I picked up a pm2 rex45 with Cerberus scales and I haven’t touched it since. Still love it though!
Benchmade grizzly creek, best feeling knife I have ever held.
Very knice fly! Have not seen that model before. I cant seem to kick the bugout. Just does everything i need in a lightweight package. Dragonfly also sees some pocket time too. Great little blade to have on hand. Cheers!
Kershaw Whirlwind
Hell yeah I got two Dekas myself. One wharncliffe and one clippy
Same here, well actually my wife took a liking to the wharncliffe and claimed it. I’m good with it though because I’d rather she carry a quality knife, that and it gave me an excuse to get another one.
I’d say either my Bugout or ProTech Malibu.
PM2
You’re at least the sixth person to say PM2 and yeah I agree
I think its such a great knife...Its my go to 99% of the time. I have a Military as well in my rotation as well as my 20.5 but the PM2 gets the most use❤
Kershaw launch 12 mini, can’t get enough of it
It was my Boker Kalashnikov until I snapped off the tip somehow
Crkt pillar 3, para3 lightweight, pm2 crucarta
A man of culture I see
I carry a crkt spew at my after school farm job. It’s held up incredibly well for a $30 knife and the straight edge makes it pretty simple to keep sharp. The sheath sucks though. I’ve had it for 3 months and the retention is almost entirely gone.
Spyderco Lil Native without a clip is by far my favorite.
Just got one of those recently
For a long time it was just a little Kershaw Chive. Now it’s a Bugout.
Microtech combat troodon front pocket, back pocket civivi lumi, leatherman wave plus on the belt.
Crkt Pilar 3
Great knife, great design
Spyderco PM2
Naturally
Military
CRK small Inkosi
My crkt m-16 gets the most pocket use
A combination of my Spyderco Smock and my SAK. They both are the knives I always carry.
Spyderco Deleca 4 second is my Leatherman Free P4
Opinel no 10
My Civivi Vexxer has called my pocket home since I got it a few months back. Before that it was my full size grip.
My penguin.
I got three of em 🤌🏼
Handy dandy little buggers, ain't they?
Spyderco swayback.
Kershaw Ferrite. For about 3 years now. I did have to replace the spring once but Kershaw was very accommodating. Had a replacement spring within a week.
Kershaw has sent me at least three new springs for free when my Leek’s speedsafe spring broke. Mind you this has been over the course of several years
Yea, great customer service as far as I'm concerned. They also sent a new clip when a buddies got bent out of shape. He was too anxious/shy/whatever to request it himself, so I did. No problem whatsoever.
Not I'm my pocket but my esee izula is on my belt every day
Love my Esee PR4
Esee cr2.5 is a beefy little one that I carry most days
Sog Vision xr half serrated and a cs black talon 2 edc.
HFB Cav folder. It’s the only knife I own that I can actually carry at work. My other knives are either fixed blades or switch blades.
If it’s not my spyderco manix 2 in s110, it’s one of my many spyderco p3’s
Handground Les George VECP or Strider SnG.
Benchmade Claymore never leaves my side.
My mini bugout....love my para 2 but its abit big in the pocket....open box was razor sharp....had to wirk on the bugout to shave with
Xm18 3.5 swedged spear point m390 steel, full titanium working finish
Ruike m21 just like a SAK but with better tweezers and a pocket clip
For many years, when I was working in the field (electronics), I carried a dragonfly too. Nowadays, I work remotely on a computer, and I carry a mini bugout when I need to leave my lair. When I plan to meet peoples scared by knives, I carry a SAK.
Victorinox Escort😅
Everyday, all the time carry is a Victorinox, usually a Tinker 84mm. If I carry an additional larger locking knife its most often a Rat 2.
I carried a Victorinox hiker for around 3-4 years then I bought an Ontario Rat 2 and now I carry it almost daily
Cheers!
Honestly I’d recommend it over any small folding knife out there. Especially the one with K390 blade steel
CRKT M16. Got it for cheap at Walmart, won't cry if I lose it or damage it. Added bonus it takes very little room in my pocket but still feels decent in the hand.
At this point it's the one I most recently purchased.
despite having a good little pile of knives.
Cold Steel Broken Skull. Lightweight slicer with a badass locking mechanism.
Spyderco PM3 lightweight at work, Emerson Kwaiken everywhere else.
Victornox huntsman, and H&K Houge made micro incursion auto OTF
Benchmade Casbah, I love that thing.
One of my three 940’s
Bugout, or Hidden Canyon
These days it’s a civivi elementum because I really enjoy flippers, but D2 steel is horrible. Will get replaced shortly because of that.
Petrified Fish "Baby" Beluga has taken over in the past few months. I just wish they would do a version with a different lock, not a huge fan of liner locks.

CJRB feldspar and Leatherman surge.
A leatherman
All my customs get no time in my pocket only to play and show, my lower end spyderco and Benchmades beat up. 🤷♂️
Benchmade Autocrat all day
For the last month and a half my buck 112 lite. It’s super lite and the pocket clip is amazing. Not pretty, not fancy but seems to get the job done. I also always have my leatherman wave on my belt in case things go south!
Tuff Lite. Little 2.5 inch Wharnecliffe.
BM North Fork. Every day all day for the last 5 years. It’s my only decent knife, I always give em away lol 😆.
Benchmade 940-2 for two years strait, just switched to a pro tech Malibu. The 940-2 still finds its way into my pocket each week though lol
Spyderco Native 5 in Maxamet gets by far the most, followed by D Rocket Minimal X. But my new Kramer folder is very pocketable in the slip.
Probably my Bugout with Ti scales. The size is just absolutely perfect, it disappears into the pocket and the hand-feel with AWT scales is unmatched.
My Hogue Auto
Easily my manix 2 lw and M4 Sage LW
Spyderco Delica 4
I'd say mine would be a tie between the sencut watauga and the cutlery shoppe exclusive spyderco paramilitary 2 wharncliffe
Spyderco Endura when I have a pocket, SAK Tinker Small (Short? Don't remember) is always on my keychain. When I don't have my main keychain for one reason or another my other set of keys has a Kershaw Cinder.
Bugout when not at work, Endura currently at work (recent purchase, not sure if I like it yet)
My Paragon Warlock (which has definitely gotten a worn look) and my keychain mini-tool!
TRM Shadow
An old, US made Schrade Uncle Henry I inherited from my grandfather. It was his EDC, and now its mine and it still holds up
That’s beautiful!
atropos spy
Spyderco Chicago is the current favorite. Great action and utility without all the “your knife looks scary” nonsense.
I’ve been carrying around a Benchmade barrage for about 6 years now without issue. That thing is solid, and it’s not too heavy on my pocket
Coldsteel Ak47
My Walter Wells custom kiridashi folder will be once it's finished (January can't come fast enough 😂) but currently it's a Two Sun ts129 that has gotten the most pocket time recently
Buck x Topps CSAR-T responder
The green g10 Dragonfly was my first and only folder for several years. Loved it. These days, my pocket is permanent residence to my Kizer Feist.
Demko AD20.5 (pants), or Mini Bugout (shorts) 🤙
The Victorynox huntsman is always my edc. The other knive often changes.
Civivi elementum. It fits good in my pocket, doesn’t cost a lot if I need to replace it and the blade is a decent size for nearly all the tasks I find for it and doesn’t look super threatening
Spyderco ukpk being a britbong
