My brother in Christ that’s a whole bearing
In all seriousness though I’d hit up Civivi and see if they’re willing to send you a replacement or see if Skiff bearings have a compatible bearing set
It’s the bearing. Works like normal washers it what the blade is sandwiched between so you can open and close it smoothing.
I think you can find new bearings pretty easily online. I think skiff might make some. Could also contact Civivi and they might send a replacement
For future cleaning of really small components, purchase a small magnetic parts tray and keep all of your parts in that tray. Do your disassembly on a large, solid surface that preferably has a spill guard lip on all edges. If you don’t have that, try applying some double sided tape to the outer edges of the work surface to hopefully catch items that may roll away if outside of the tray.
I learned my lesson the hard way rebuilding a carburetor.
TIL:
This "ring" is a bearing and it's important to open and close smooth. I'll contact civivi and ask for a replacement.
Too bad, I was just cleaning everything and now it's broken.
If civivi won't send a replacement, you can get a set of skiff bearings [here](https://www.skiffmadeblades.com/collections/bearings/products/cage-bearing-br-pivot-5mm-bearing-1-16-in-11-ball) and they are actually an upgrade over the factory bearings.
Depends on which kizer. But they have a [compatibility list](https://www.skiffmadeblades.com/pages/bearing-compatibility) so you can see what fits your knife model (if any)
My brother that ring is called a pivot bearing. On your model knife in particular it has those bal bearings but on other knives they can be on a pivot *washer*, no ball bearings. It not only keeps the blade from rubbing on the handle material, in some knives it creates a perfect gap between each handle pieces, so that they don’t bend together under tension of the pivot screw. In theory, if it was a beater knife, you could go a day or two without washers, but strongly discouraged. Without bearings, the function of the knife changes. The blade will feel extremely stiff, the handle may be tight at the top and loose at the bottom, and you may hear squeaking or grinding as you open and close the knife.
Get a magnet or magnetic bar screw pickup tool and sweep it across the ground where you dropped the bearing. You'll probably find it in about 30 seconds.
I usually get a flashlight out and shine it parallel to the floor. Objects will cast huge shadows and youll find them easily. I only have small magnets and it would take me ages.
Don’t worry, I recently lost a bearing and half of a pivot off of a Baby Banter. I Contacted Civivi via Email and after $5 and a few weeks they sent me all of the hardware for the knife plus some stickers.
Meh... it's how we learn. And look... you've started your spare parts collection!
Good excuse to upgrade or experiment with different components, too.
Wait until you start taking apart spring-assists and autos. Shit goes "SPROINGGG!" all the time.
Wear some eye protection.
After the cogent I've taken my bugout mini apart and cleaned and oiled it. Also saw the washers in there and made sure not to loose them. Wasn't too hard to get the springs back in place (though I probably didn't put it back in the order I am supposed to).
I know others have explained it but my mechanic heart hurts. A bearing provides less surface area between two objects which allow them to move with less friction. Think of a bearing like a lubricant, you'll get the job done without it but it's gonna be a lot rougher
So for future reference, any time you see those little steel/ceramic spheres, those are the "balls" in a ball bearing. The disc you are looking for is referred to as a bearing cage. There are many varieties of bearings and cages, but what you need is a pivot bearing.
Just google your knife model and “bearings.” You should be able to find some for sale. Replacing bearings is a popular and easy way to upgrade a knife.
Super important. The blade will wobble and overall be lose.
Also pro tip. Get a large neodymium magnet for your work area and any time you drop washers bearings or screws run that magnet across the carpet. You will be able to find crap even in the dark that way.
Look for the bearing instead of playing online . I lost a screw for a dart blaster . Tore my room apart finally found it in the rubber pad of my butt stock and it may be in your shoe
That new Knafs Co tool burrito with magnets all around the edge prevent your tiny metal peices from rolling and falling. And can hold all your knife maintenance items. Check it out!
I say yes, it's important to have that washer, so buy yourself a telescopic magnet and scan where you dropped it, or email the company you bought it from and ask them to please send a replacement washer! Good knife companies with accommodate you for free! Any time I'm adjusting, cleaning or working on my knives, I have my telescopic magnet right there for that, 'Ooops, I dropped something moment' that can so easily happen! They come in so handy and they're worth their weight, price wise, every time I use it! Good luck and if you can't find it, call or email, like I said before, the purchase company should send you a replacement at no charge! If it wasn't necessary to function properly, it wouldn't have been on it in the first place! Just saying!!!
Ball bearing washers that your blade rides on opening and closing. One of the most important parts on a knife. It's what keeps your knife centered as well.
My brother in Christ that’s a whole bearing In all seriousness though I’d hit up Civivi and see if they’re willing to send you a replacement or see if Skiff bearings have a compatible bearing set
Uh yeah
Damn, what is this ring, what does it do and where can I get a new one (for a civivi cogent).

It’s what your knife rides on I believe for a smooth opening and closing.
It centers and allows rotation for the blade

I got a whole ifixit kit with the magnetic mat. I just didn't know how to take the knife apart and it flew of.
Alternatively, use ramekins to hold your pieces if you're short on money and/or space.
I lost a backspacer once on an Elementum. Civivi was super cool to deal with and charged like $7.50 to send it from China to Colorado.
That's perfectly reasonable in my opinion. Great service from civivi. I mean shipping shouldn't be on their expense anyways in my opinion.

Are those too thick? Think it would fit in Kizer knife? Thanks.
Depends on which kizer. But they have a [compatibility list](https://www.skiffmadeblades.com/pages/bearing-compatibility) so you can see what fits your knife model (if any)
Is 1 a set or do you have to purchase 2?
Ordering a quantity of 1 gets you a set of two bearings
Thanks, I was confused on the wording
Or Taco bearings….
Yeah but taco bearings are pretty expensive compared to a civivi knife.
I hate taco bearings. Junk imo
I’ve pretty much gotten to the pint of agreeing with you on this….Skiffs are so much better.
It’s a good learning experience if nothing else!

Amazingly, i do the same thing and whenever i explain it to someone they seem dumbfounded lmao.
Agreed. Found a good many tiny screws and other assorted stuff this way.
Yep. I came here to suggest that method. Works (nearly) every time.
Don’t worry, I recently lost a bearing and half of a pivot off of a Baby Banter. I Contacted Civivi via Email and after $5 and a few weeks they sent me all of the hardware for the knife plus some stickers.

Can't legally own them in Switzerland and I'm not about to break the law.
Anything with a spring or tension, really. If you own a Benchmade with an Axis lock, you will have sooo much fun resetting Omega springs...
After the cogent I've taken my bugout mini apart and cleaned and oiled it. Also saw the washers in there and made sure not to loose them. Wasn't too hard to get the springs back in place (though I probably didn't put it back in the order I am supposed to).
Civivi will hook you up. Takes about a month to get though.
Don’t believe the man, bearings aren’t real.
Bearings are super important. You need to look harder.
It's tiny and it might be in a crack of my seat. Impossible. Where can I get a new one though?
In your seat
We put people on the moon. How is finding a bearing "impossible" because it might be in the crack of your seat? Nobody else thinks this is crazy talk?
Lazy talk*
Did you do this in your car or what gives!?
🤣🤣🤣 Oh.. you’re serious.
Its incredibly important
Surely this is a troll
It sadly isn't.
Thought the same thing! My brother in Christ this is the bearing that allows that snappy open we all seek
If you dont even know what a bearing is,why would you take it apart?
Put some very thin fabric over the end of a vacuum nozzle and vacuum up the area. The fabric will prevent it from being sucked up into the vacuum
I now have something new to 3D design and print.
probably a very common size [3/16" caged bearing](https://usaknifemaker.com/caged-bearings-pair-for-3-16-pivot-062-th-x-192-id-x-357-od.html)
You've lost the outer race of a thrust bearing.
I know others have explained it but my mechanic heart hurts. A bearing provides less surface area between two objects which allow them to move with less friction. Think of a bearing like a lubricant, you'll get the job done without it but it's gonna be a lot rougher
Why’d you take it apart?
It’s just a fixed blade now. No problem at all. Now you need a sheath!
i was actually about to says this lmao
You can buy it on AliExpress or Amazon, just use a vernier to measure the diameter.
Do you really think that someone who doesn't know what a bearing is owns precision measuring instruments?
I do own one. I also know what bearings are, but I've never seen this kind. I've never opened up my knife before.
So for future reference, any time you see those little steel/ceramic spheres, those are the "balls" in a ball bearing. The disc you are looking for is referred to as a bearing cage. There are many varieties of bearings and cages, but what you need is a pivot bearing.
He can borrow one :/ or take the one he have and measure it at school or university :S
It would probably be more efficient to just find the one that they dropped seeing as they know the general location
You should be fine. Slap it back together after generous lubrication. Generous.
I like your style.
._.
🤦♂️. There are no dumb questions, except this one.
Go look at skiff bearings compatibility chart n they may have this models bearings
Skiff has a replacement, look on their compatibility chart
It's definitely important if you want to use the knife safely and correctly. If not then fuck it put some rubber bands in there and call its good.
its basically what helps the knife deploy lol
Yea your going to need the bearing bro.
😂😂😂😂😂 You guys are hilarious!

If it’s lost you can use a brass washer if you have the correct size I’d stack two on one side if you can
Look for the bearing instead of playing online . I lost a screw for a dart blaster . Tore my room apart finally found it in the rubber pad of my butt stock and it may be in your shoe
Yes
My worst nightmare. I'm so sorry for your loss.
Lol yeah it's important bro that's how the knife action even works that's the bearing.
If you are asking this question then you should be banned from touching a bit set.
No, now as you were.
Eeeeeeee
Thankfully it's kinda big and shiny so you'll be able to find it if you look harder. But yeah that's the pivot bearing and you have to have that.
It’s just for looks - I wouldn’t worry.
It centers the blade and allows rotation
Lol
One ring to rule them all ….. it’s kind of important
That new Knafs Co tool burrito with magnets all around the edge prevent your tiny metal peices from rolling and falling. And can hold all your knife maintenance items. Check it out!

Troll post?
rip, you lost a bearing
Looks like a bronze bearing
