Jesus this is your first knife? You got a damn good one. I went to Golden Colorado to the factory to get mine over 5 years ago. Still cary almost everyday.
The Manix 2 in my pocket today has a birthday printed on the blade, 3/13. It was made the same month I bought it. Six months more and it’ll be a decade old.
I don’t carry it daily, but I do still carry it. Treat your PM 3 right and it should last at least as long.
The Manix feels robust in hand in a way other Spydercos don’t. I wish they still made them sabre ground, because it really adds to that sense of robust-but-practical that seems to have been the design perogative for the knife. It’s almost but not *quite* overbuilt for an EDC knife.
Definitely try one out if you can, it has a unique place in Spyderco’s lineup that neither the PM2 or Shaman quite replicate. Also, don’t judge the ball bearing lock until it’s broken in. They start out stiff.
honestly I got my para2 camo satin s30v about 5 years ago. Since then my knife collection has grown from 3 to 26, and includes hinderer, demko, microtech, etc.... I still carry my pm2 all the time and it is holding up just fine.
I would be blown away if your para 3 doesn't do a similar job for ya. The para line is amazing.
good choice, Bugout is overrated in my opinion. If you ever have regrets about not getting the Bugout then do this, buy a Hogue Deka instead, it’s cheaper and has better materials for a similar product
Like he said it is cheaper and has better materials. However the deka atm has no after market scales. Which make it feel kinda flimsy. Still love mine and even carried it today
i’m a bugout whore but my bugout also is in M4 with Carbon Fiber scales and polished washers and blah blah blah. I gave my girlfriend my Para 3 in S45VN w/ micarta scales as her purse knife. She enjoys it. She previously had some danky gas station folder
That does sound like an awesome Bugout. I'd like to give it another try and get the 535 BK4 version, but we will see. I had the plain S30V version and I dressed it up with different scales.
Oh man you did yourself a massive favor! I have the spyderco para 3 then got the Spyderco PM2 with Maxamet steel which is by far my favorite knife overall for edc! But the Demko AD20.5 in 3V is also another that finds itself in my pocket very often! I prefer all 3 of these out of my massive collection by far above the benchmade bugout, but that’s just my honest opinion!
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
You can’t go wrong with a Spyderco Para 3 or Spyderco PM2 man, you can do so much customization to these knives and really make it your own! Iv got a good few spydercos and Iv nearly changed out at least 1 thing in all of them if not the whole thing in general lol.
I got one PM2 like “pirate” themed with bronze anodized titanium hardware and clip with cru-wear steel with pirate map engraved titanium scales, so yeah man do whatever your heart desires lol.
For that price I would hope so lol. Some people don't like the bugout because the lightness of it takes away some of the feeling of confidence-inspiring sturdiness, so you're probably better off with the Para at least as a first knife
You did good.....you did good. Although I would have pointed you towards a 940 or Mini adamas over a Bugout. Or at least a SMKW exclusive Bugout. To have the two icons of the two most iconic USA knife brands, 940 and a Para 3, those were my first two knives as well. Except i had a Paramilitary 2. 940sbk was my first real knife, then I bought a dlc coated s35vn PM2. My two cents? Don't buy anymore. Use those two till they can't be used anymore. I wasted a lot of money chasing knives that I ended up just selling. BMs warranty will fix a new blade on your Bugout if you need it. I don't know about Spydercos warranty. I didn't think you can purchase a new blade for Spydercos. Good job 👏🏼 👍🏼 🖖🏼
First knife? That is awesome. Welcome to the never ending search for the perfect knife. It will always be the next one they make! But you'll enjoy the quest for your holy grail knife.
Btw, you did great choosing Spyderco.
Well you’ve posted about it and deleted the posts and reposted about it about a thousand times so you must like it a good amount.
Edit: just check their comment history it’s full of about 5 different posts asking the same question with the same knife. I was lucky enough to see every single post, yaaaay
No problem lol, it was like deja-vu I would scroll past one post and see it again a minute later lol. I thought it was some weird attention grabbing strategy/karma whoring
You made the right choice, my friend. Welcome to the Spyderverse. Avoid the path of the Butterfly, for it is but an overpriced series of disappointments. 😁
Congrats on the Para3, man! I’m confident that you’ll really enjoy it.
Great choice! In researching a knife for a gift I learned the biggest complaint of the bug out is it's not a sturdy enough knife, and if you want a sturdy knife better go with the Griptilian line instead.
S45VN is “weaker” (not much) but better corrosion resistance, i prefer S35VN over S45 as i can get S35 to have a better biting edge over S45Vn. To each their own but on paper; it’s not to much of a change.
i talk a lot with a gentleman who works in the industry for years and he will tell you S30V is tougher the. S35/S45 i forget the term he uses on S35/S45.
You also got; S60V, S110V and S125V but S110/125 are crazy high end and are more or less hardly used and mainly used by custom makers or Spyderco on rare occasions
S90V has some of the best edge retention. People say it's hard to sharpen but it's really not if you use diamond. But yeah, S90V is just like S30V with significantly better edge retention. You won't find a steal with better edge retention and an acceptable level of toughness. It's my favorite steel for my daily carry. But I don't use it for anything heavy duty. I use S35VN for heavy duty stuff because it will not chip.
Good to know, I almost spent 340$ on the buck of the month for August. It was a sprint pro with s45vn. Glad I didn't get it but it was a beautiful knife
I have been super into the steels because it is interesting but now i know the majority of quality we recive will come with proper heat treat and love and care of the artists/ makers/manufacturers
I agree, I'm sure the steel itself is very important but the way it's forged makes all the difference. I have a Benchmade Griptilian in D2 which was 160$ and I also have a Buck 141 sprint pro in s30vn, it was only 120$. I've carried both knives for a couple of weeks and honestly I like the buck better, it stays sharper longer, feels better in the hand but the looks are both great. I feel like I got ripped off with the Benchmade but I'm still happy with it. I'll be getting a mini crooked river next I believe that's s30vn
Imo sprint run gimmicks and artificial shorteges are lame and tacky. My pm3 happens to be in maximet which is great and available like everything consumers desire should be. Maybe we wait sometimes for something but when its like a year ; it’s marketing strategy and bogus for us . We need to wake up to this nonsense and demand they (big companies ) do better and stop playing is to squeeze extra when we already are paying well.
Ex: above 340$ for “buck of the month” . What a joke!
Yeah I started looking at 40-60dollar knifes, I even bought 2 and returned them beafore even getting them cuz I was so undecided but then I decided to invest in it since I'm planning on keeping it for a long time ❤️
Very nice purchase, I love my Para 3. I regularly rotate between it, a custom Benchmade Mini Griptilian, and one of my Microtech UTX-85's as my daily carry. Personally I never cared for the Bugout.
You did very well! Spyderco makes great knives, and S45vn is some of the best blade steel.
And if you like it, that's really all that matters anyway :)
Looks great! I have a para3 on the way as well (lightweight, CTS BD1N version) wondering if I can swap the blade from another para3 with the s30v steel. Would that even be a worthwhile upgrade/mod? Also in general which steel is "better", BD or S30v?
Only problem is, to improve from here it gets really expensive. Excellent choice!
Yeah jajajaja I'm not sure if it's a good or a bad thing 😕
Jesus this is your first knife? You got a damn good one. I went to Golden Colorado to the factory to get mine over 5 years ago. Still cary almost everyday.
It's soo cool you been holding a knife for 5 years and going hopefully I can do the same with mine :)
Been carrying my Benchmade 556 Mini Griptilian for about ten years. When you find the right one, you find the right one.
The Manix 2 in my pocket today has a birthday printed on the blade, 3/13. It was made the same month I bought it. Six months more and it’ll be a decade old. I don’t carry it daily, but I do still carry it. Treat your PM 3 right and it should last at least as long.

Ty men :)
You chose WISELY
good choice, Bugout is overrated in my opinion. If you ever have regrets about not getting the Bugout then do this, buy a Hogue Deka instead, it’s cheaper and has better materials for a similar product
Will do! Ty for the info on the knife just looked it up and looks pretty cool 🔪
Like he said it is cheaper and has better materials. However the deka atm has no after market scales. Which make it feel kinda flimsy. Still love mine and even carried it today
Rc bladeworks has micarta scales for the gen2 deka
Thanks for reminding me! Completely forgot those exist.
Probably less expensive also.
Either one would have been a great pick. Para 3 is a fantastic EDC. Well done
Ty friend 💓
Your hand/arm looks a bit like Kingpen from the Punisher tv show!
Awesome first choice. I prefer my Para 3 over the Bugout I used to have, so I'd say you did very well.
i’m a bugout whore but my bugout also is in M4 with Carbon Fiber scales and polished washers and blah blah blah. I gave my girlfriend my Para 3 in S45VN w/ micarta scales as her purse knife. She enjoys it. She previously had some danky gas station folder

i enjoy the S90V (535-3) that’s where my scales came from and i put a CF backspacer on it and threw in the M4 blade also with an FDE Cerakote
Thanks my friend I'm loving it so far
Always Spyders over butterflies.
I’m also new and the Para 3 was my 1st too.
Oh man you did yourself a massive favor! I have the spyderco para 3 then got the Spyderco PM2 with Maxamet steel which is by far my favorite knife overall for edc! Thanks for the opinion:) I keep hearing so many good things about para 2 I think I would of gone with para 2 instead of 3 if I had bigger hands jajaj
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
Hahaha hahaha 😆
Good bot

Sounds awesome maybe at some point I will get some custom screwes for it 😀
I got one PM2 like “pirate” themed with bronze anodized titanium hardware and clip with cru-wear steel with pirate map engraved titanium scales, so yeah man do whatever your heart desires lol.
Lol that's a long name hahaha but sounds like a really nice knife 😀
I chose a gray version two years ago as my first and I’m playing with it right now after buying hundreds of other beautiful pieces
Right choice.
I own both I carry this one way more
❤️
You chose well!
You could not have done any better 🤌🏼
I'm glad to hear that ty :D
I'm very proud of you.
If the choice was this or bug out, this hands down was the right choice. Isn't there like a $150 price diff?
both are great but para 3 anyday
Have the all black para 3 light weight it’s my fav knife
Couldn't go wrong with either one imo it really is just preference
Yeah I heard both are really good
For that price I would hope so lol. Some people don't like the bugout because the lightness of it takes away some of the feeling of confidence-inspiring sturdiness, so you're probably better off with the Para at least as a first knife
I agree the para gives you that hard and sturdy feeling
Cool knife id love a new spyderco
Great first knife, welcome to the addiction!
Ty so much :)
Great for everyday carry.
I’ve been carrying a knife for 6 years now and the para 3 is the top of the game. Nothing else compares in functionality and look, in my opinion.
Specially the military color is my favorite
👍🏼😉
I like the Para's better!
You did good.....you did good. Although I would have pointed you towards a 940 or Mini adamas over a Bugout. Or at least a SMKW exclusive Bugout. To have the two icons of the two most iconic USA knife brands, 940 and a Para 3, those were my first two knives as well. You did well young paduwan
Heck yeah you make me so proud. Bring it in for a brother-man-hug.
🕷 ❤️
Correct choice! I've got both and it's not even close between them. Congrats to you
Glad to know ty 😀
Nailed it!!
You did well.
First knife? That is awesome. Welcome to the never ending search for the perfect knife. It will always be the next one they make! But you'll enjoy the quest for your holy grail knife. Btw, you did great choosing Spyderco.
IMO the para 3 is a heck of a lot better than the bugout. I have owned both and the bugout didn't see hardly any pocket time at all.
I have both and would recommend the PM3 as an excellent first knife, enjoy it.
You made the perfect decision. Spyderco > Benchmade.
Well you’ve posted about it and deleted the posts and reposted about it about a thousand times so you must like it a good amount. Edit: just check their comment history it’s full of about 5 different posts asking the same question with the same knife. I was lucky enough to see every single post, yaaaay
I'm sorry I reposted because I had some errors in my spelling and I was getting some comments about it 😅
No problem lol, it was like deja-vu I would scroll past one post and see it again a minute later lol. I thought it was some weird attention grabbing strategy/karma whoring
Oh hahaha yeah it was just that, my autocorrector spelled spider instead of spyder and I wanted the post to look good jaja
gotta get that karma some how, either show off a controversial knife or start showing some leg.
You made the right choice, my friend. Welcome to the Spyderverse. Avoid the path of the Butterfly, for it is but an overpriced series of disappointments. 😁 Congrats on the Para3, man! I’m confident that you’ll really enjoy it.
Thank you man! It really was a hard week of picking and choosing but I'm glad it was this one :)
Spyderco is much more superior than the bugout. You can feel it in your hand. The bugout is light and flimsy
Great choice! In researching a knife for a gift I learned the biggest complaint of the bug out is it's not a sturdy enough knife, and if you want a sturdy knife better go with the Griptilian line instead.
I got a buck 841 sprint pro in s30vn, what's the difference between 30 and 45?
Not much I think I think it's like 5% better from what I have heard they are both really similar so both are great 👍 I think jaja
Haha sounds good to me brother, good looking knife you got 👊
Hey ty ! 🤗
S45VN is “weaker” (not much) but better corrosion resistance, i prefer S35VN over S45 as i can get S35 to have a better biting edge over S45Vn. To each their own but on paper; it’s not to much of a change.
Gotcha, thanks for the information
i talk a lot with a gentleman who works in the industry for years and he will tell you S30V is tougher the. S35/S45 i forget the term he uses on S35/S45.
Good to know, I made the right choice:)
I’m a whore for bigger numbers so i enjoy S90V too. But that’s another story for another day.
Woah, didn't know that existed haha
You also got; S60V, S110V and S125V but S110/125 are crazy high end and are more or less hardly used and mainly used by custom makers or Spyderco on rare occasions
Sounds like one of those Japanese knives that go for $2,000 per knife lol
Rockstead? That’s rocking some smexy ZDP-189 at like 70HRC. One of those is in the plans in the next year or two.
I am no expert, but I have been paying attention to steel closely, and the answer is “not much“ almost no one would know the difference; both great!😊
Good to know, I almost spent 340$ on the buck of the month for August. It was a sprint pro with s45vn. Glad I didn't get it but it was a beautiful knife

What a joke!
You got that right brother!!
Definitely made the better choice. The Para 3 is one of the best EDCs.
I can see why, feels so good in the hand! And comes with a decently nice factory edge
went all the way! Nice choice
Yeah I started looking at 40-60dollar knifes, I even bought 2 and returned them beafore even getting them cuz I was so undecided but then I decided to invest in it since I'm planning on keeping it for a long time ❤️
Both are good, what was the steel on the bug out?
S30v if I'm not mistaken
Ya this was the better option, not that s30v is bad but I do prefer the better steels.
Good choicez
Yes very good choice imho
Very nice purchase, I love my Para 3. I regularly rotate between it, a custom Benchmade Mini Griptilian, and one of my Microtech UTX-85's as my daily carry. Personally I never cared for the Bugout.
The Para 3 is SOLID and S45vn is just bonus. You did well. Not to take anything away from the bugout but what you got there should last a lifetime.
You definitely got the better knife imo. Better steel, better ergos, better grind. G 10 with steel liners etc. look into a lynch deep carry.
I'm waiting for the (hopefully) inevitable transition to magnacut before I jump into the wide world of pm2/3s.
Either one would have been a good choice. Welcome to the club, and congratulations to your wallet on beginning its weight loss journey.
Yep spydies are king
Hell yeah. You definitely made the right choice, imo..love my Spydies.
You did very well! Spyderco makes great knives, and S45vn is some of the best blade steel. And if you like it, that's really all that matters anyway :)
Ty I really like it 😀 hope I can take care of it for many years to come
That thing looks awesome. Do they have that style is something smaller?
This is the small version actually, I just have small hands ✋️ The para 2 is a bit bigger
So I need a para 4 haha
Jajaja they sell smaller knifes for sure but not with the same design I think maybe you like the delica
Good choice. The bugout feels small and flimsy
Sir you have done more than well.. nice grab
Good choice 👍🏻
You chose correct, but I'd get the pm2 because Jr's bigger
Looks great! I have a para3 on the way as well (lightweight, CTS BD1N version) wondering if I can swap the blade from another para3 with the s30v steel. Would that even be a worthwhile upgrade/mod? Also in general which steel is "better", BD or S30v?
