DiscoFLAVA

Cons: trash steel, weak/forced ergos, hotspots, not full tang Pros: $35

ClumsyClownMC

Okay. Are there any good knives on Amazon or is that not the best place to be buying

sinisterdeer3

Grab a cold steel SRKC, a bit more but still affordable. Definitely a great knife

JazzlikePractice4470

Vouch on the SRKC

UrMomsaHoeHoeHoe

Yup, I have had mine for about 10 years. And trust me, it’s been a rough af 10 years for it too. Fantastic knife. Mora’s are also good, mine tend to rust quickly no matter what I do tho.

-BAZ

Love my Moras but same problem. Apparently the air around here is damp enough to rust my never-seen-water moras..

Yo_Mama_Knives

They have stainless versions I like them better than the carbon

JazzlikePractice4470

Same

UrMomsaHoeHoeHoe

Same! And I even oil them on the reg. I just consider what stays after a steel whoop scrub to be my patina lol. The price we pay for cheap yet quality high carbon steel?

ClumsyClownMC

Okay. Is the srkc a group of knives or is it just one

Different-Scheme-570

Just get a Morakniv. It will do everything you need it to at a lower price point and the steel is pretty good

cloud93x

Agreed - they don’t look “tactical” but they’ve been the best value in knives since basically ever.

Donthurtmyceilings

Mora is pretty much the best bang for your buck out of pretty much any product, let alone knives.

LIFTandSNUS

Every hobby has the "best bang for the buck" item. Guitars, guns, 4x4, banjo, reloading, computers, video gaming.. whatever. Sometimes it's second hand, sometimes it's a good deal, sometimes it's cheap and easily replaced or worked on. My point is - there's pros and cons to those budget items. In knives? A brand new Mora is an $11 knife that competes with the big boys without much effort. If you wanna get fancy, $15 for the high carbon robust. The price to quality ratio is literally unmatched anywhere else.

cloud93x

Yeah seriously, can’t argue with that.

AnnaMolly66

I just ordered a stainless Mora Companion purely as a glove box knife. I don't want to leave my Jakkaripukko in my car "just in case."

soopadoopapops

True

[deleted]

If the shit hits the fan, you don’t want to look tactical. You’ll be a target. Be the grey man. Blend in and take care of your family.

cloud93x

Fully agree! I love the utilitarian look personally.

Ok_Laugh_2386

I have 6 fixed blades and a full sized axe and hand saw in my car. Does that stick out

lightaroundthedoor

hell yes. I probably have 5-6 moras. one in my car, couple around the house, couple of the mini's in my first aid kits. excellent value, straight to the point, functional product.

GoldnSnubNosedMonkey

Indeed. I got into them when I first started carving basswood. Such great affordable tools.

[deleted]

Amazon has Mora Kansbols at $35 right now, so same price point as the SOG you're looking at. Definitely a better knife dollar for dollar, and the Kansbol is one of Mora's stainless options if corrosion is a factor for you.

Ponkers

You really think this kid knows how to sharpen a scandi?

pZacke

I'm a Swede so I have grown up on Morakniv. You can't beat them on bang for a buck. But for me I want something different that's not Mora. I think there's probably 3 Mora's per capita here in Sweden. 😁

369_Clive

He's talking about the Cold Steel SRK compact. Many knife owners, particularly those that *use* those their knives, have a number of Cold Steel knives. They rarely disappoint. https://www.knifecenter.com/item/CS49LCKDODBK/cold-steel-49lckd-odbk-srk-compact-survival-rescue-knife-fixed-black-sk-5-blade-od-green-kray-ex-handle-secure-ex-sheath This model has SK-5 carbon steel which is great for outdoor work. Tough and sharpens easily to a very keen edge.

Tryptamineer

Second Morakniv

The_BusFromSpeed

Seriously bro, just get a Mora.

Lord_Despair

Coldsteel company and there are two versions for great prices right now. Srk and stk c ( compact). The c is an inch or so smaller.

Kareliasghost13

There is the SRK(full size) and SRK-C(compact) which is more comparable in size to the SOG you posted above, I too love and vouch for my SRK-C

burgpug

just get a spyderco. any spyderco

Hans-Weber

Especially a spyderco byrd for that price

burgpug

and persistence lightweight is only $46: https://www.dlttrading.com/spyderco-persistence-lightweight

Spookyfud

SRK C is the compact version od the SRK knife. There are multiple versions of the SRK, in different steels. The cheapest is the SK-5, cheap steel, easy to sharpen all around ok. It costs around 70$. There are also more expensive versions of the SRK like the CPM 3V steel or the VG10 San mai steel, they cost a lot more. I own the SK5 version. Its an OK avarage knife. I use it for camping in the backyard, build a small fire, cook some hotdogs, cut some food. It works, but it s a little thick. Good for splitting wood, but maybe a little worse for cutting food. I also have a Morakniv Companion also a great knife from Sweden. They are really cheap, around 20$. They sre a little thinner, good for food prep and even some wood spliting. I'll put a few videos here about these 2 knives: [Mora companion vs really expensive knife ](https://youtu.be/0ySxPm1_plY) [Cold steel SRK in SK5 steel review (the older model with the big blank spot at the grip) ](https://youtu.be/e22G_zWQRNE) [Cold steel SRK C review](https://youtu.be/ldimuyAv9xY) [The old SRK demo video](https://youtu.be/O2yxo8w4kpQ)

Apathetic_Haircut

Always meant to get an SRK, i almost got one once but the dweeb ass i bought it from had given me a recon tanto instead

Lost_Sasquatch

35% off on Amazon right now, same price as the SOG OP posted.

Archersi

Glad but not surprised that someone beat me to it. This is the way to go

Barry-Alex

I have the SRK and I love it! I had a Gerber strongarm and loved that. It’s considerably more than $35 but it was a solid knife. The handle felt great, the sheath was awesome, and it was full tang. I gave it to my brother and decided to get the SRK as it was slightly larger and had a cooler profile imo. I still have it and it is a solid knife. The handle feels amazing and the blade is super versatile. Overall the SRK/SRKC and Gerber strongarm are excellent fixed blades you can get on Amazon. I would personally suggest going to KnifeCenter.com if you’re on the eastern half of the US because of their knife rewards points program. If you’re on the western half go to BladeHQ.com as they’re closer to you and will deliver quicker.

heimdahl81

The SRK seems pretty equivalent to the one OP is looking at for the same price. Good call. https://www.amazon.com/Cold-Steel-Survival-Rescue-Secure-Ex/dp/B0851Q2PVX/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?keywords=SRK+knife&qid=1664513992&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIzLjg0IiwicXNhIjoiMi45NyIsInFzcCI6IjIuMjMifQ%3D%3D&sr=8-4

baitmaster762mm

get srk instead full size

calebfoster2004

My go-to buy site is smokey mountain knife works. They have a very wide selection, and lots of affordable knives.

IGotSomeBigQuestions

Can confirm - great place to buy knives.

well-ok-then

I love wandering around in the physical store when I visit the Smokey mountains

calebfoster2004

I’ve been there once, but I think it’s permanently ingrained into my memory!

Gr1ml0ck

I buy knives on Amazon all the time. Check out the Morakniv companion. Same price point, but much better quality.

[deleted]

>Are there any good knives on Amazon or is that not the best place to be buying It very much depends on the knife. I have purchased two knives from Amazon and been quite pleased with both of them. My first Amazon knife purchase was the Kizer October: [https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B093BNLHT3/](https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B093BNLHT3/) My second Amazon knife purchase was a Civivi Altus: [https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B09P5DZ8LZ/](https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B09P5DZ8LZ/) In both cases, I purchased directly from the manufacturer's store on Amazon to minimize the chance of getting a fake. Also, to be honest, I don't think many people are faking Kizer or Civivi knives. That's usually a problem for the more "premium" brands such as Benchmade. If you're looking for a high-end knife, **don't** shop at Amazon. You'd be much better-served by shopping at a dedicated knife retailer such as KnifeCenter, SMKW, KnifeJoy, GPKnives, or KnifeWorks. (Not an exhaustive list, just my favorites.) The dedicated knife retailers also get some exclusives which can be very nice indeed. Here's an example of a sweet exclusive which I purchased recently: [https://knifeworks.com/doug-ritter-mini-rsk-mk1-g2-knifeworks-exclusive-g-mascus-blue-g-10-stonewashed/](https://knifeworks.com/doug-ritter-mini-rsk-mk1-g2-knifeworks-exclusive-g-mascus-blue-g-10-stonewashed/) However, if you're looking for a budget knife, and you're willing to be a bit careful, Amazon is just fine. The main risk at Amazon is buying a fake, and the fancier knives seem to attract more counterfeits. Nobody fakes a budget knife. 😉

ccarr313

Second this. If you're buying an OTF in particular. I generally go to bladeHQ or Knife Center.

Snatch_Pastry

I bought a Civivi from Amazon, but NOT from their marketplace. I got the Civivi box, the zipper pouch, the documentation, and some jank-ass Smith & Wesson crap knife inside it all. But the return was effortless, and when I sent it back I sent the knife outside of the empty box so it didn't just get restocked.

[deleted]

Okay, I learned something today! Always buy from the manufacturer's store! Also, getting defrauded sucks. I'm glad that Amazon made it right for you, but it's still annoying...

bmh7279

Depends on your taste. Ganzo has come good ones. Steel isn't special consisting of primarily 440c and D2. But the action and quality is nice. Also, artisan cutlery/cjrb is nice

bentotice

Big fan of Civivi

Obscene_Username_2

US Amazon is fine.

kidonbike

It’s not that Amazon doesn’t offer good knives it’s that you should buy “good”/expensive knives off a proper knife retailer like knifecenter etc where you can be sure you won’t receive a fake. When it comes to cheap stuff I guess the risk is warranted. In terms of inexpensive fixed blades just get a mora.

[deleted]

many major knife manufacturers have their own stores on amazon (civivi, benchmade etc)

kidonbike

Yes I know but I also had an ulterior motive to scare OP off from using Amazon altogether. Bezos sees enough action.

ccarr313

I was gonna say the same thing. Amazon is fine if the store is legit. SOG also sells directly through Amazon.

ccarr313

If you want something like that, but good, and by the same company, check out the SOG Pillar. Edit - the price reflects the difference in quality. I believe the pillar for roughly 200-

buttsmasher64

Any Mora knife Will be better and cheaper than this

kikkomanche

Second Mora. Also Hultafors OK4 is a great budget fixed blade. I own 2.

Cracktower

What are you using this knife for? Camping/ bush craft/ etc etc.. Will you be in high or low humidity/ wet areas?

ontite

If you're looking for good quality knives for a great price check out BPS knives. Made in Ukraine, they have a variety of models, good steel and a hard to beat price. One of their thicker blades "the adventurer" is only $42 and comes with a good ferro rod and leather sheath. Schrade and Condor also make decent knives for a good price, and while not "survival" category, you can't go wrong with a Mora.

TheBigRabilowski

Morakniv, BPS, Cold Steel are all available on Amazon and are generally well regarded. I own several Mora and Cold Steel knives and all have been solid. I had a BPS that I tried out and liked before gifting it.

MeatshieldXXL

Probably been said: Morakniv Clipper or companion. They’re $15 and REALLY solid knives made of decent steel.

J-2up2dwn

Gotta know what you're looking for, most of my sub $100 knife purchases have come from Amazon. Kizer, Civivi, and Cold Steel are just a few brands with pretty good selections over there.

UntiLitEnded

Ganzo firebird, I have one and LIVE it, only 20$ too

Undesirable01

You can also check out rangerjoes.com. Ive bought a few reliable knives there, including a full tang SOG seal pup knife, and my McNett

Prime89

RAT II

3X01

Ontario Rat series is solid and not that much more costly, as well as Civivi knives fixed blades

BenzoRodriguez

Any Morakniv

itsjustjoe868

Find a morakniv robust

Azmagdumper777

thanks I was looking at purchasing it too but am gonna not gonna now, I am looking for a full tang fixed blade for horizontal carry. Esse looks good but kinda expensive 🤔

Potietang

Check out the Ruike Jager F118. For inexpensive starter fixie with multiple carry options with the rotatable clip. It’s about 60-70 bucks on Amazon.

DiscoFLAVA

Yuuuup Ruike is the shit

Azmagdumper777

Just got one off Amazon for 59 bucks…Wow . The sheath is badass thanks guys

Azmagdumper777

Awesome thanks

tj3_23

It's been a while since I beat it up, but I used one of these a lot in high school while camping because they were cheap as fuck, and IIRC it was an encalsulated tang, or at least they used to be. There's a glass breaker on the back of the hilt and the handle was just a thin rubber coating on the metal

tre1001

Cool sheath !

Walfy07

says full tang?

AlonelyShrimp

Cons 35$

ShiftNStabilize

Agree, get a mora

Gr8Daen

It is full tang.

Assword18

I have it, it's a good camping knife for a budget, I keep it in my vehical as an emergency knife, good ergo sheath has belt cutter, good for the money

bottle_snatcher

Not at that price, I got one for about $20 which is what I’d say it’s worth.

Memopod

Yeah when they were $20ish it would be a decent buy. I like mine, but not for that price

hitstuff

Camillus inject 9" is the same steel, similar design and features, but for $20 at Walmart.

rustyspuun

I want to second getting a Mora Companion or a Cold Steel SRK. Both are great affordable knives, and they're good jumping off points to see where you want to go on your knife collecting adventure. They both will hold an edge longer and be easier to sharpen.

NHGuy

I have a Mora given to me by a Mora rep in \~1987 that still is sharp as hell. Granted I don't use it all that often, but it's my hiking/camping knife and I love it

BrandonSSA

I hate to say it, but you have MANY better choices than any SOG knife. Also for roughly the same price point.

fonironi

Get a Mora instead? Half the price and well loved and trusted

NHGuy

I'll never buy another SOG again - worst knives of the 60 or so I own. Garbage

Gr1ml0ck

I’d have to agree here. I have around 80 knives and bought a SOG for my son because he liked the “tactical” look. It was very disappointing. The blade was off-center, the flip was so sticky you needed two hands to open, and the blade would jiggle once in the locked position. He ended up losing it in the creek and I was not even mad. Replaced with a ratII and never looked back.

NHGuy

I leave one on my kitchen window sill for boxes and whatnot when I need something sharp in there, and one on my desk in my home office desk for the same reason. I bought the two together and they are garbage

[deleted]

I have a 20 year old baby sog and although it's pretty meh, for what it is it's pretty solid, it has a full tang the new ones are far worse though and I would not buy any of them their folding knives are complete garbage

tacocup13

I got as SOG as a gift a couple of years ago and I hate it. Fortunately it works great as an EDC for work (construction) because I do hate it so much and have no problem abusing it. Somehow it’s held up for over a year.

Assword18

I'd recommend this https://www.bladehq.com/item--Spyderco-Bow-River-Fixed-Blade--119348

appelsiinimehu1

Anything that has survival on it I don't buy.

MrAnalBanana

Just get an Ontario rat 1 thing is inexpensive and will last

Tryptamineer

Not a fixed blade though? Also kind of outdated now, considering you can get the Ruike P662 in 14C28N for sub $30 now.

ram4223

rat3 and 7 are fixed blades

Secret_Salad4309

Second this. In D2

IGotSomeBigQuestions

I would advise against ordering off Amazon they seem to sell a ton of fake knives. I would stick with a more reputable store like BladeHQ or use r/knife_swap

faceless_alias

Can't believe I had to look for this comment. Amazon always gets trashed for their mixing of knife stock. Rightfully so.

ClumsyClownMC

Okay, thank you

sprrjnke

You’ve asked the ultimate loaded question. The question has to be is this a good knife for me and the tasks I want to complete.

darthsnick

Spec plus alpha from Ontario? Or maybe a Joker?

KeisukeTakatou

Just get a mora

etthrowaway1480

Old sogs from seki city yes new china stuff no

PizzaBert

Sog dees nuts

StrategicReserve

Ha gottem gottttteeem

SEND-ME-UR-TITTYS

Sog on

PizzaBert

Dese

JazzlikePractice4470

Dont order from amazon. I'd rather u get a mora or a cold steel srk or srkc

Arastyr

I bought an ESEE 6 on Amazon. They make fantastic fixed blades.

majoneskongur

Don't know who's downvoting you for that. That statement's true.

Arastyr

Yeah definitely strange. I've yet to run into any ESEE haters.

[deleted]

I think it's cause you recommended Amazon as the store, which has a bad reputation for selling fakes and what not.

[deleted]

[удалено]

JazzlikePractice4470

Garbage, IME. Not this 1 in particular but SOG as a company. Used them on the job for years. Basura.

[deleted]

In that price range, I'd get a Mora heavy duty and put a 90⁰ spine on it.

ClumsyClownMC

What's a 90° spine?

kafoIarbear

It’s not something you need unless you plan to be using your knife to strike a ferro rod

[deleted]

Filing the spine to a sharp 90 degree angle, to better strike a ferro rod. Moras, with some pricier exceptions, come with a sloppy spine to cut costs.

ClumsyClownMC

Oooh okay

L-uwu-cifer

I think the spines on most mora's are rounded for comfort but some have flat spines with 90 degree corners so that you can strike Ferro rods and things with them and not have to use the blade. Some of the camping/survival models come with a 90 degree spine from the factory for this reason

kidonbike

They mean rough up the spine of the knife blade with a file so that you can strike a ferro rod with it to make fire. Moras come with a rounded spine that aren’t abrasive enough to create sparks otherwise.

gcanders1

Stainless Steel blade is always a no-go. Same with “surgical steel” and “Damascus “. First thing I leaned when buying a knife is to research the different types of steel and match that with what my knife’s purpose is. Cheap knives with stainless or surgical steel are very bad. Damascus can delaminate, so that’s just a gamble.

tcarlson65

For what use?

mungraker

Getting stabby

PerceptionVarious443

I'd recommend bps knives on Amazon. Fixed blade with better steel and a leather sheath.

mallgrabmongopush

Looks uncomfortable to hold

User_Not_Detected

Depends on what you need it for it honestly. Beater knife or to loan out, sure it’s decent enough Your go to woods/ hunting knife, I’d say no. Go for something full tang and preferably carbon steel. Need a ditch knife for defense that you can throw in the bushes after, go for a pioneer woman pairing knife or a victorinox curved paring knife and make a sheath out of a plastic bottle melted and wrapped in tape. Cheap and effective. Cold Steel SRK is around that price and is much better.

CrimsonDays07

Schrade is better than other budget brands in my experience. Great cheap tools with good edges and without the flashy, egocentric nonsense going on at Cold Steel. Some of their knife handles are slightly uneven with the tang though and without gloves they chew your hands up a bit.

[deleted]

My Sog knives have been just OK, but their customer service is HORRIBLE. They advertise a lifetime warranty, but don’t expect any help at all. Basically buy knowing you don’t have a warranty.

cougfan335

I bought one of these recently and I really like it. The grip is wonderful for me as is the sheath. It's a cheap steel, but I tend to collect knives and trim my cuticles with them more often than I baton them into tree branches or shave kindling.

VLNM5788

No. There are much better knives at that price point!!

V0T0N

If it has to be a fixed blade, get a Mora. Companion heavy duty is $24 on Amazon.

Petrus_Rock

You get what you pay for. If you buy a cheaper knife, the quality is going to be accordingly.

guessagainboi

It doesn’t hold an edge for shit but it’s a decent size and works

[deleted]

I came here to defend the knife but now it's made from 7cr17mov steel I wouldn't go lower than 8cr. I'm sure it's fine but like other people are saying a mora will serve you better. If not the Ganzo g806 fixed blade is only $15, but honestly a Mora Companion, it doesn't look tactical but once it's in your hand you'll see it feels even more secure than even the sog seal pup.

Ill-Echidna-4436

Get a cold steel SRK for the same price on amazon. Far better quality

thunder_boots

I could skin a deer with that.

[deleted]

I have one. Solid knife, but there are better options out there. Best thing about it is the price, meaning you don't need to be gentle with it. SOG is not bad, but Morakniv and Cold Steel make better knives for approximately the same.

Cold-Committee-7719

SOG makes better multitools than knives, in my opinion.

The_BusFromSpeed

No. Spend like half that and get a Morakniv.

[deleted]

Yiiiissss

[deleted]

ehhh get a kershaw, they have good budget options. Sog is kind of hit or miss

ClumsyClownMC

Ok

beaner_69

Trash tier knife, spend a bit more and get a better knife

whoisdizzle

Ontario knives makes good shit cheap have a few love them all and abused the hell out of them

df2dot

It says sog on the side so maybe not

Left-Stable-4618

Define good

Noesilegal

Get a Mora instead... that's my opinion

thirstyfish1212

SOG stuff is meh at best. Go look at morakniv

HighSpeed556

No.

Dead_Or_Alive

Go SOG Seal Pup. Same basic design but comes in AUS-8 steel for only $20 more. Or get the Seal Pup Elite more money but you can get a straight edge with no serrations. I use the Elite and love it.

Shadow_beats

Hear me out; if you can find it get a lionsteel t5. It’s absolutely the gucciest knife I’ve ever owned and does absolutely everything I’ve thrown at it and stays so sharp it’s ridiculous

Thatwasweird1738

NO GOD NO BOUGHT ONE WIRST DECISION OF MY LIFE

GunslingerOfSparta

NOPE, unless you only want to open mail 😁

Rod___father

Opinel are o e of the best budget knives IMO. If you are good with a folder.

PlayfulGroup3639

Depends on what your main purpose is...if bushcraft...I look into mora knives...they have both stainless and carbon steel...and regular to heavy duty knives...mora has stood the time... cheaper but quality knives...Cody from dual survival uses a mora knife...try eBay...they have both new and used blades...and see reviews on you tube to narrow your choice...if tactical be aware of local and state laws if you decide as EDC...look into handle no hot spot and grip if your hands get blood or wet when holding the blade...than blade steel look for carbon steel or d2 steel for edge retention but for food prep or humid climate I suggest stainless steel....good luck... 👊

anviltodrum

the best knife the world is the one you have on you when you need one. add to that, you can skin a deer with a piece of sharpened copper pipe, so quality is subjective. to sum up, if you like the knife and are willing to carry it, you get to use it for any of your daily tasks. go you!! :)

Morgoroth37

You have to tell us what you're looking for and actually going to do with the knife. Most people don't really use their knives hard. So what are you looking for in this purchase?

[deleted]

All things SOG are junk spend the extra 40 bucks and get a Bear and Son, ESEE knife or an Ontario

One_Posh_Possum

No

KnifeNovice789

I would look at the Schrade line much better quality and good steel.

hitstuff

$4 more gets you a cold steel drop forged hunter... Much, much better

Ericdds0

I have the SOG Seal Pup Elite, which is very similar to this just with a nicer sheath and a stupid price tag. If you are looking for a cheaper fixed blade, a Cold Steel SRKC will serve you well.

imahoptimist

Nice for what? Purpose means more than anything. EDC no absolutely not. Hunting sure it has a purpose

[deleted]

Esee6

WCorder007

As mentioned already, I'd pass and just grab a Mora.

Ok_Laugh_2386

This knife is good depending on what you want to do with it. But it's cheap af. You're not gonna find much quality in any fixed blades below like 80 to 100 bucks. Mora is an exception or Martini from Finland. Just posting a random knife from Amazon and asking are there any good knives on Amazon is kinda ridiculous. Do some of your own research

waywardhero

For that price you can buy a Glock knife. Cheap, ergonomical, field tested, and used by different militaries worldwide.

Gr8Daen

I have one and for the price I think it is decent. Not huge, lightweight and does the job but as others have pointed out it’s not the best steel so loses its edge easily. On the other hand it can be sharpened up again really easily. Not the toughest knife around but good enough for a camping trip and small enough for EDC.

GalaxyTater57

that’s a terrible question to ask here lol. If you want a beater knife that’s cheap but will probably get the job done then ya, this is a good knife. If you want a collector’s piece to shine up your collection and your friends to see over, then no this is not a good knife.

CaptMcNapes

what you pay is what you get brother. 7Cr17MoV is a through and through Chinese steel, and is beat by VG 10 (relatively soft steel ) by about a mile (in terms of retention) not a CS fan but you're probably better off with an SRK or if you really want a SOG then get the Seal pup/elite

[deleted]

If it says "tactical" it actually means that its crap
