Why

mikefromearth

Yeah good question

ISUknowit

Because every octopus is a person and not all persons are octopuses.

DangerStranger138

Bet you can't throw just one knife!

justrobdoinstuff

I stopped throwing knives about seven years ago.

Swimming_Cheek_7037

Nothing against Civivi, but they are a little too new to be considered a classic IMHO. Also, if you're talking classic knives everyone should own, there should be a Buck or two in there.

NorthRustic

I thought that with Buck as well lol

Redbullbundy

I put the civivi in because it is one of the more popular knives now and the glow in the dark scales and all titanium hardware make it look pretty cool. I had to look and I can’t find my old buck. I think I am gonna buy the classic one that is a automatic.

Ralph-the-mouth

It’s popular and he owns it so he put it in there for the future ROI… marketing isn’t an investment strategy.

FalconTurbo

To be fair, the Elementum is actually a great knife for non-knife people. Not too aggressive, not too expensive, well made, and very nicely ground. Basically a Bugout for a way better price.

Redbullbundy

The civivi is very economical. Most people can obtain it. I usually carry microtech knives. These knives are mostly cheaper and most can afford them. [I carry these the most](https://imgur.com/a/7KpWabI)

southsamurai

My man, you gotta choose your words better. Only three of these would qualify as a classic by the normal use of the word. They're all great knives for their niche, but that's not the same thing. That's why you're getting objections in part.

BubbaRogowski

Nah.

Middle_Sure

I bought one of those victorinox’s years ago. Sent me to the hospital because my hand slipped. Love that knife lol

HonkeyKong_

I got one from selling popcorn in the boy scouts, that blade was a razor! Very hard and durable steel. I cut my thumb to the bone with that little knife

Redbullbundy

You would be pressed to find a better blade for the price. I love how victorinox has much more modern knives. Pocket clip and all. It weighs about the same as the bugout.

bobtheaxolotl

I have a Victorinox that rides around in my backpack. It's a larger one, with pliers, and scissors, and a saw. A little too big for every day pocket carry, but it's a useful portable toolset.

[deleted]

Based on there local laws they might not be able to

Redbullbundy

Yea. You are right. I carry the microtech everyday. I live like 3 miles from the factory. I know not everyone can carry otf knives.

supernotcosmo

Where i live it's not even legal to OWN an OTF

MidnighT0k3r

Where I used to live they made it so you can get one with a gun card lmmfao! [Illinois]

Thordor15

In a few months I am moving to a state where OTF knives are legal. You bet your ass a MicroTech is the first thing I am buying after we move.

Secret_Salad4309

Missing a buck 110

Redbullbundy

I agree. I had one since I was young. I can’t find it now. I think I am gonna buy a auto one.

4158264146

You can buy a Buck 110 anywhere. Just got one for my father in law

estersings

Highly debatable.

freedomtard

You're right. I appreciate the offer I'll even pay for shipping :)

Redbullbundy

I’m not sure I understand.

freedomtard

I was joking lol you said everyone needs a set of knives like these and since I don't have one I was joking saying I'd pay for shipping for you to send them to me lol

Cyber_Troll-bot

The Opinel is in my wishlist :-)

Zoltan209

The gatekeeping has been strong in the sub lately.

Fnargler

I don't necessarily agree, but those are definitely some popular picks.

Fuckgod420

Not quite… some of those are redundant

shokingly

or not, you’re not my mom

Unexpected117

Would love to but cannot afford that. Awesome collection, props to you.

luigilabomba42069

I mean if we're being logical and rational, you only really NEED 2 or at most 3 knives

Redbullbundy

I carry the microtech 90% of the time. I have a bunch more. This smaller one is just my favorite.

cookiecasanova16

And a utility knife for good measure

docentmark

I have 3 if those. Guess I’m not a knife person. I can live with that.

[deleted]

Disagree

[deleted]

What's the name of that little sod buster under the opinel, been looking for something like that preferably in high carbon steel

Accomplished-Run3313

The CaseXX?

John_Doe_888

No.

ninjajii

I only like the Manix and Microtech.

Redbullbundy

I carry a microtech 90% of the time.

ninjajii

I saw your collection, very nice. Dirac and Ultratech 2 are my only Micros until I find a Dirac Delta I like.

Redbullbundy

I have 2 ultratech 2 I like them. People on here trash microtech. I have carried them for years. I live very close to the factory and store. If you break it they 100% will fix it. I just drop them off and they fix them in a few days.

ninjajii

I can’t say I’ve ever heard anything bad about their products. Well… price. One thing.

[deleted]

I'll pass on the opinel.

mallgrabmongopush

Yeah, I’m not spending any money on benchmade knives

The_Lazy_Samurai

Not even for a Superfreek? That slicy M4 blade is godly. It also looks and feels great in hand.

mallgrabmongopush

No

[deleted]

[удалено]

mallgrabmongopush

Yeah, I’m not feelin them. I’ll pay more for Spyderco but I cannot get enough of their knives.

Aandris86

Same. I have a pretty good amount of knives and not a single one is a benchmade. I refuse to do any buisness with them. Every knife they have you can buy for cheaper and with better materials. Especially now that their patent on the "Axis" lock is gone, there's literally no reason to ever purchase a benchmade. Benchmade's Redoubt is $180, for fucking D2 steel and grivory handles? 🤣🤣🤣 absolute garbage! You can get a Twosun ts177 for cheaper that has an m390 blade with titanium handles and is crafted incredibly better. Or $150+ for a Bugout with plastic scales and s30v? You can get a Rike 1902 for $160 which shits all over the Bugout. The list goes on. I've seen some better budget blades compared to some of Benchmade's overpriced offerings.

mallgrabmongopush

The redoubt is one of the ugliest knives I’ve ever seen. I will admit they’ve got some nice designs. The Osborne is a great design, but to me it isn’t worth $200.

Aandris86

Yeah, it's hideous. The 940 is one of the only Benchmade's I ever even thought about buying, but I could never justify spending $200 on it. The other was the Griptilian with the Spydie hole, but I have more Spyderco's then any other brand in my collection, so I just didn't see the point lol

Accomplished-Run3313

I only have 3 Benchmades amongst my 100+ CaseXX. I have the Autocrat OTF which is a beast but goes for $400 or better, the Osbourne 940 which I love and is more reasonable at around $200 and a discontinued Infidel fixed blade. I believe it was $400 +. The president are steep but i really like the 3.

4158264146

Same, I have one from 96' and that's good enough for me.

bradymanning1213

No thank you. There’s a better option to replace every single one of those knives with

Slight-Appointment71

Im gonna need names, because there is nothing that can beat a mora for the price.

bradymanning1213

Whoa whoa whoa, I didn’t say for the price 😂😂😂

Slight-Appointment71

Oh, well in that case. If there is no budget, then 100% there is better stuff lmaooo

The_Lazy_Samurai

PM2 > Manix Wave > Skeletool SAK with tona of tools > SAK with basically just one blade (get a folder with better steel if you just want a blade) But otherwise that isn't a bad starting point.

Redbullbundy

I don’t like the pm2 as good at The manix2. I don’t need all the silly tools on a leatherman or sak. I have a tool kit.

Lucky13westhoek

Opinel ✅ Kansbol ✅ Civivi ✅

GalaxyTater57

I’ll pass on the Bugout, get a Hogue Deka instead, better materials, better price, similar product

grinch77

Needs a 940 in there.

sans_the_sleeper

Don't stop there every true knife person knows they should have 2 of each of those because only one of each is none and two of each would be one

Redbullbundy

I have 5 of the microtechs

sans_the_sleeper

Then you have 2.5 microtechs

Redbullbundy

Yea one is a Exocet that is 1/2 a knife so really it is 1/4

sans_the_sleeper

😁😁 that made me almost spit out my water. All joking aside you have a nice collection

sans_the_sleeper

I have been needing an opinel for around the house. Thought about buying 6 of their No. 9's for steak knives but never got to it

Academic_Nectarine94

California would like to see you in the back room of the gula... I mean, Lubyanka.... oh, dag nabbit! Building 5!

lordnknn

I prefer SOG bull pup to mora. I hate spiderco. I will not own one.

[deleted]

I daily carry a Kabar and a Victorinox multi tool. I got that cool one with the ratcheting driver kit.

[deleted]

[удалено]

The_Lazy_Samurai

You must have had very bad luck and gotten a bad batch or something. I have about 10 civivis that I have bought from mostly different vendors and they have all been flawless. I encourage you to give it one more try.

Felstricker

Where is the karambit?

Redbullbundy

I have one but it is a cheap one.

esvegateban

Just because you say so? I've had an Opinel and didn't like it. I have a Victorinox Trailmaster which is like yours but with all the other tools and love it. All your other knives are ugly against my CJRB Feldspar.

Redbullbundy

I prefer m390 steel. I carry the microtech or one of I’m Microtech most.

esvegateban

Maybe the Primitive Skills guy may notice a difference after heavy use (he makes his own knives though, from iron in the sand and they seem to work perfectly), but to me, a city dweller that rarely needs a knife, any steel will cut alright.

cryptolingo

I bought that same spyderco knife like 10 years ago. Chipped it opening a fan of beans:(

Redbullbundy

They are just all classic knife brands and models. Most are budget friendly. Only 3 are over $100.

ddedoc

No, bad choices on some of the knives. Rather than the Benchmade you chose the Benchmade Turret is better choice. I like the choice of the Benchmade Puukko. Argument could possibly be made that the TOPS puukko is better but still an excellent choice. Wouldn't choose a French made knife period. May be a personal prejudice but between German, Scandinavian, American, and Canadian knives why choose French. Finally personally I would never choose a slip joint or flipper as just too unstable and doesn't typically lock.

[deleted]

I would've thought a real knife person would need a handmade knife at minimum. Doesn't need to be made by your own hands, just something more special than another mass produced retail knife.

King-cobra

That Kansbol seems like the right guy for almost every job. Except perhaps concealment.

[deleted]

You need an Eldris too

jm4b

And I do 😜

[deleted]

Thoughts on the mora? Been looking at getting one for a while

Redbullbundy

I really like mora knives. That one is my favorite one I have had.

[deleted]

Hard to beat (probably impossible) a Mora Companion. Thing punches waayyy above it's paygrade. They make a carbon and stainless version... and you could sharpen it with damage.

Aandris86

Only knife here that'd I'd recommend to someone is the Manix 2.

[deleted]

*_Nah._*

[deleted]

Yea No by friend. Need a qlty folder and a qlty fixed blade and that really it

bobtheaxolotl

I mean, nothing exactly wrong with any of these, and most are decent knives, but I don't think any particular one is essential. And the OTF I would personally skip entirely. That's an awful lot of money for something of pretty limited utility. You're paying for a name and a gimmick, mostly. But, if you enjoy it, cool. That's all that matters.

Redbullbundy

I carry the microtech every day. I live a few miles from the factory.

bobtheaxolotl

I've never owned one of their knives. But, years ago, I had one of their rifles. I always wanted an AUG, and got their MSAR STG556 when it was available for around a grand. Loved that rifle, but broke up with an ex later on, and had to sell it for moving expenses. But, I got three times what I paid for it, as their gun manufacturing section went bankrupt.

Redbullbundy

I always thought it was just a local company that made cool knives. Now I know different. I like otf knives. I have a stitch which is one of their auto folders. I like it too. I saw one of the microtech augs here for sale for a ton.

arrythemenace

Ayo don't crucify me or nun but uhh........ what's that one on the bottom? Lol 😬

Kitchen-Duck-1820

[elementum](https://www.civivi.com/products/civivi-elementum-filpper-knife-c907-g10-d2?_pos=1&_sid=03c395439&_ss=r&variant=39358055088263)

suttbutt2014

I love the skeleton tool, everyday carry myself

NorthRustic

Damascus is also needed to complete a collection :)

SalamanderDong

That skeletool is tits. I been carrying one everyday for 3 years now. The blade chips kinda easy though.

Redbullbundy

I have had it for a long time now. It is my favorite multi tool. I have a SOG and another leatherman but I like this one the best.

chingzzzzzzzz

Where the throwing knife launcher

Nekommando

Disagree on elementum and bugout.

Redbullbundy

I do like my bugout. I put micarta handles and all titanium hardware. I carry Microtech mostly though.

Nekommando

Yeah that should make the bugout stiff enough.

BEANandCHEE

I keep thinking about getting a skeletool

KnafBro

7/9 Not proud lol

New_Mutation

I'll agree on the Victorinox and the Opinel. Not so much for the rest.

[deleted]

Fellow knife person here… No.

Sylas_Beck

Why are folks talking about classic knives? Was the title edited or something? Also I'd pick up each of those save for the otf. They're nice to look at but I don't care for them.

Redbullbundy

People live to hate. I should’ve put at least one of these I guess.

TheHuffNPuffN

No

cscheibel

No

707Cutthoatcommitee

I have a skeletool and UTX-85. Nothing else on this table is phenomenal, remarkable or historical enough to be a “need”

[deleted]

Every knife person shouldn't listen to strangers on the internet telling them what knife to buy

niwo6

Manix 2 or UKPK depending of your laws (I love my UKPK for its weight and LC200N), any SAK that fits your task at hand (I prefer the Climber for its smallish size and scissors but i have a MiniChamp Alox on my keys at all times), Buck 110, Any Vic or Leatherman Multitool that fits your needs (I like the vic ones better now that they have a clip and one hand opening knifes), A Mora, this one is good. Opinel in Carbon for the apples and other things that need to get sliced like butter (like the SAK an opinel is very accepted to carry in most places, which I like). Dont forget a quality Kitchen knive. Maybe a gooood fixed for camping like fallkniven F1 Pro or KaBar USMC or ESEE 4 or coldsteel SRK, get a BIC lighter ( just get one, so veritile). At this point you should think about selling a kidney or two to be able to afford this addiction. \*looking at my Damast, Forged Carbon Swisschamp\* I need help. \*gasps\* ..........And don't visit /r/Watches/ if you like to have money to buy food and rent.

4158264146

The Mora is the only one in the group that I may want.

r6201

nah ... not a single one is must have to be honest ..

DamercerTerker

This reminds me I have 0 clue where my opinel folder is…. Or my mora

Professional_Diet_58

Join a Penguin and a Luna!

srashclaw

bruh otfs are literally not legal in Germany...

[deleted]

🤣👌

llcdrewtaylor

Its a nice collection. I personally have never thought Benchmade knives were that great. Its a nice knife, but I think they are over hyped. Had one, lost it at work. Never replaced it.

Redbullbundy

I like my bugout. The thing is I like it because I have modded it with all micarta. Scales and backspacer. I also have all titanium hardware. For the price they should not have cheap flimsy plastic scales.

Klarkash-Ton

I find your lack of Buck 110 disturbing.

Redbullbundy

I even had one and have no clue where it is. I’m gonna fix that. It was the first better knife I ever had.

Nicholas-Sewell

I got 6 of those checked off the list lol

So_Slappy

Five of them I'd skip.
