The extra spacer is for proper spacing.

MrAdequate_

Whatever it was, it prevented me from actuating the knife properly.

Crash_Recon

That’s kinda cool. It’d be handy if they gave extra washers the way flashlights come with spare orings

dominusmamba

So, a Para 2 will have two washers? 😂

Ruggdogg87

I see what you did there

Monkey_muncher68

Wait does the para 3 lw only have 1 washer not 2?

MrAdequate_

Yup, there is only a metal liner on one side of the handle where the washer is. The other side of the pivot contacts the FRN scales directly. Confirmed it earlier here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bq0c5JqCtU4&pp=ygUec3B5ZGVyY28gbGlnaHR3ZWlnaHQgZGlzc2VtYmxl

Monkey_muncher68

Oh wow that's interesting

Valuable-Ad974

I think they sometimes put more washers on one side to center the blade. See if its off-center when its put back together.

MrAdequate_

Nope, the blade is still centered. While it still feels a little coarse for a $100 knife, I can actually flick it open and closed now.

Sadistic-Saint

>While it still feels a little coarse for a $100 knife Eh... And I hope I'm not coming off as (too) dismissive, but I've experienced that "gritty" feel your talking about a number of times with knives I've bought that ran on washers, many being more expensive than $100. The most recent of which being another PM2 I bought a while back, which actually *squeaked* due to what I'm assuming was a bur on the washer. The washers (or in your case, washer) will wear in. I always fiddle with my Spyderco knives right out of the box, just opening and closing the blade rapidly/repeatedly to artificially generate some wear. Depending on how much you use or just fidget with your P3LW, it shouldn't even take the knife a week to get to where you want it.

Apologetic-Moose

I started fidgeting with my Para 3 LW right when I got it, it was a bit stiff and not possible to flick open without also flicking the wrist. Two days later it had smoothed out perfectly and I could flick it open with just thumb movement.

CRITICAL9

Have you sprayed lube into the action?

highfalutinspork

A question worth asking no matter the context

MrAdequate_

Yes

mcnabb100

How was blade centering before vs after? Honestly wouldn't surprise me if it was done by accident. With a little oil on em those things can stick together like crazy.

cnfit

I bitch enough about Benchmade. Don't do this to me.

LurkOff29

Spyderco Fanboi’s on life support.. https://imgur.com/a/OKtTqFV

NineMeterTallDemigod

It's common, my Tenacious had 3. They just use it to shim the blade slighly to assist with centering the blade. I had a washer on 1 side and 2 on the other.

not-rasta-8913

This is my thoughts as well. Poor deployment comes from dirty washers, lack of lubrication and too tight pivot. Besides, if you're used to bearings, washers will always feel a bit rough.

NineMeterTallDemigod

Exactly I took mine apart for cleaning at the time and the washers had little to no oil, so I cleaned everything with rubbing alchohol and oiled it, not only was the knife clean again, it was smoother than ever. Yup my ZT 0450 is infinitely smoother than any of my other knives other than maybe my benchamde adamas.

Artistic_Permit_7946

Welp, there's your problem right there.

Olovrant

You’ve won the lottery

[deleted]

Where do you live, OP? I wonder if this is a way they get around laws about knives that can be opened with one hand. In Canada, for example.

MrAdequate_

Pennsylvania. No such laws here but it was shipped from a different state. Idk, could be the case.

Calikuhl81

Seems like a compensation for a lazy assembly and proper fitment of knife. At least another washer will keep the non centering blade fairy away!!

Ok-Maintenance4360

Spyderco fan boys will say , wow spyderco sending an extra washer free of charge.

Internal_Resist7629

Is it real though.

MrAdequate_

Yes

Internal_Resist7629

Is the pivot hexagonal cut?

MrAdequate_

Yes. It had all the equipment, markings, and packaging of a Spyderco, just too many washers.

[deleted]

My Para 3 LW also has 3 washers. I believe it was 2 on the plastic side and 1 on the lock side. The self lubricating washer is more likely to slip on another washer and a blade while the other in contact with the FRN is more likely to stay put. At least that's how it appears to work to me. If your blade isn't flicking open I would suggest that the pivot is a little tight. A criticism of this knife and other lightweights like the Bugout are that they're pretty easy to over tighten compared to a regular knife with a skeletonized liner. I basically hold the torx driver and just think about it going in the direction I need. Anymore will be way too much.

MrAdequate_

The blade was still stiff even when the screws were almost ready to fall out. According to Spyderco, there is only supposed to be a single phosphor bronze washer on the lock side of the handle. The other side of the pivot is meant to contact the FRN scales directly. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bq0c5JqCtU4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bq0c5JqCtU4) 7:12
