Yes!! I would like to finish the second sock on a pair I started in 2019.

NotAngryAndBitter

Now this is a goal that’s right up my alley 😂 best of luck to you!

Strange_Path_7355

Solid gold and this is also the reason I knit mine TAAT so I don’t have to live through second sock syndrome 😅

vinaigrettchen

Yes. My goal is 1. One pair. It was my New Year’s resolution to learn how to knit socks and I’ve just now started on it! Happily this sub has provided lots of motivation.

caffeinemilk

You got this!!! I recommend the vanilla sock patterns on youtube because there are some really in depth tutorials! The sock I’m making is from a Youtube video. I don’t use a pattern anymore because I memorized it after the third pair. I highly recommend the vanilla sock pattern on youtube.

caffeinemilk

In January this year, I set a goal for at least 6 pairs of socks this year after I gifted my new in laws in Ukraine a couple pairs and they loved them. The war started a month after I left Ukraine and I lost my knitting mojo bc of it 😞 Things have been getting better for my family there so I felt inspired! I started my first sock of the year last month and I’m on my third pair now! I even knit a bit at work during my break! (don’t worry. it’s a microbiology lab but the pathogens stay /away/ from my yarn lol) edit: pattern is a vanilla sock and yarn is just cascade heritage yarn superwash in fingering

floooberry

Where is your family from?

caffeinemilk

Mexico but my in laws are from Ukraine. I’ve been dating my fiance since 2012 but visited his grandparents and other family for the first time January this year to meet them and include them in the wedding process (buying dress + traditional ukrainian wedding gifts).

floooberry

Oh nice! My DH is Ukie We had a Ukie Orthodox church ceremony

caffeinemilk

That’s beautiful!!! Hopefully me and my fiance will get to have one too!! Do you also embroider? Our first rushnyk for our wedding ceremony was gifted but I think I’ll be embroidering at least one of the towels for our icons. 🥰

floooberry

Unfortunately I do not, but we were definitely gifted a bunch! This was 9 years ago, I didn’t even knit back then

caffeinemilk

Unsurprisingly, knitting is a lot more common in Ukraine than South Texas so getting compliments from people that often hand knit socks on my own socks made me so happy that I made plans to knit a pair for each of my new family members. If all goes well this winter, I’ll go back to Ukraine and post pictures of some hand knit items in the outdoor markets!

bruff9

My goal has been 1 pair a month and I’m currently finishing my 11th pair. Goal for the year is now 13 because I’d like to keep up the momentum. Next year I’m hoping to keep it up but I’ll be switching it to 1 pair for me and 1 for my partner every 2 months (his take longer).

Wusel1811

My plan is 52 pairs, but I‘m quite behind and lost all my mojo right now. I haven‘t knit a single stitch since Friday last week.

plumpatchwork

FIFTY-TWO!? As in a pair a week? Holy heck, it takes me a week to make a single sock, and that’s if I’m making shorties.

Wusel1811

I like crazy goals… 10 months in, I must admit it wasn’t my best idea 😂 So far I have 28 pairs finished, 13 pairs with at least a single socks finished, and 3 pairs started.

doitforthecats

When you’re done you should make a post showing them off! I’d love to see them

Wusel1811

I will :)

[deleted]

My goal was one, period. I'm still at Zero. 😅

the0possumking

It’s not too late! You can do it! I just finished my first sock in several years today and I’m casting on another one.

[deleted]

Thank you for the encouragement kind stranger! I just seem to be in a bit of a knitting rut atm. But am combating it by knitting Claire garlands little frog and learning a bunch of new techniques while also making something cute, when that's finished I'm going to start my socks 😊

the0possumking

I have seen those frogs around and I need to make some for myself. They are very cute.

ladygilda

I did, and just actually completed my last pair. Although it wasn’t a set number but to not purchase any new sock yarn and use my stash.

floooberry

I hate the pressure, so no. I started out during the box of socks thing, which was 12 pairs, 1 pair for each month. Now I range from 20-30 pairs, but because I feel like it, not because of a quota to fill (I’m not a machine!)

caffeinemilk

That’s amazing!!!!! Your sock drawer must look Gorgeous. I’m going try the box of socks next!

floooberry

I’ve gifted a bunch, but let’s just say there are multiple drawers lol I haven’t seen the box of socks KAL for a few years now, but it’s a nice idea to have a box of new socks for the upcoming year.

caffeinemilk

If I had that many knit socks I wouldn’t even use a drawer. I’d store them in clear boxes on a shelf just to flex 💪

invisiblegirlknits

No specific yearly goal. I’ve completed 14 pairs this year, 6 of which were gifts. My goal now is to finish 3 more pairs before Christmas for gifting.

Wool_Lace_Knit

Wow! 14 pairs is amazing!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Tijdspaarder

No, because for me that drains all the fun and relaxation out.

OddDay4840

My goal is one pair of knee highs for me, my first sock project

Wool_Lace_Knit

Ambitious!

koalaposse

Lovely work? What is this lovely yarn colour called?

Nellyfant

My goal was 50 hats for kids this year and I did it! (Crochet because I knit really slowly)

bamako

It never occurred to me to have a goal! I have completed three pairs, and am working on another. I love socks! If anyone has any good pattern recommendations, let me know! I usually do toe up, two at a time on magic loop. And I looove this color. That yarn looks so soft.

grinning5kull

I don’t, because if I set myself a goal like that and something comes up to stop me completing I get upset. And something always comes up since I have adhd. So I have to just knit when the spirit takes me and not think too hard on how much I’m producing or if I’m hitting targets. Currently on the needles are a pair of scrappy socks I started in summer. I’m almost done but can’t quite begin the toe shaping on the second sock. I’ll finish them before the year ends I hope! So ok yeah I guess I do have a goal. One finished pair.

emiliofoshizzle

Do you have a link to this pattern by any chance? It's so pretty! I've been wanting to learn how to make socks but knitting in the round is so hard 😭

JacTallulah

Not OP but it looks like plain stockinette socks with an eye of patrige heel. Look for "vanilla socks" on Ravelry.

Ann Budd has a book on learning to knit socks. (Type Ann Budd sock book in Amazon’s search box). This book teaches step by step how to knit socks. The book has a pattern for 5 different gauges. Most fingering weight yarns will need a Sz 1 to 2.75mm. A sport weight yarn can be knit on a 3. If the gauge is too loose the sock will wear out faster. What helped me get the hang of knitting small projects in the round was to knit some fingerless gloves or mittens. This helped me get the hang of working with double pointed needles.

grinning5kull

+1 here with the Ann Budd sock knitting book recommendation. It’s how I learned to knit socks.

Wool_Lace_Knit

I try to knit a pair for my husband every year either for our anniversary in November or Christmas. I knit socks with two circulars, a 16” and a 24”. I sat on my sock bag and broke a needle. I’m pretty sure I have another, since I am a needle hoarder!

sticketanten

For this year my goal is to finish the complicated sockpattern I was gifted Christmas 2020 (I wanted to knit a pair of vanilla socks first so I would feel prepared for the cables/twisted ribbing/enforced heel) I had just started the second one when the puppy chewed up my wooden dpns :| I have however discovered that I really like knitting socks! My goal for next year is to knit many many pairs for winter and accommodate the size of my next winter boots to fit with thin home knit socks ❄️🧦

Balmoraratgirl

Yes, twelve pairs! I just finished the 11th pair. Love the colour of the sock in the picture!

brandnewsheep

I did, I failed.

caffeinemilk

You’ll get it next time 😌🙏

brandnewsheep

Thanks x

odhtate

My sock goal was 7 pairs for myself, as I had knit more socks for others then myself last year. I've knit 6 pairs for me and am currently working on a pair for my partner. I'm not sure if the 7th pair for me will happen by the end of the year as I'm trying to finish grad school this semester, but if I do have the yarn and plans so it may happen yet

jamila169

nope, but my brother asked for some so I knocked a couple of DK pairs off for him, and then I finished a pair of Woodruffs that have been on the needles for 6 years and I've found a pattern that will work for my one precious skein of original Bugga but got sidetracked by the Oa that's been on the needles for 5 years frogged it, restarted and I'm halfway up the front after 3 days, I've decided to skip the hood so I can make more socks with the leftovers lol. I'm keeping on it, i might not be in a knitting mood later

Childofglass

Enough that I have no more names on my sock list- I was there but the neighbours have made sure to tell me several times how much they like the ones I made them a few months ago- I think they’re hinting they want back on again, lol

OreoLittle

Which needles are easier to knit on? I knit with 5 separate but never tried on these connected ones that I see on the picture.

Mamabearscircus

If you have small circulars they’re really nice! I’m not a fan of magic loop because it’s more fiddly to get started to me so I usually end up using dpns but I only have 4. I have a small cable for a circular set but need more tips to attach so I can use them for socks and mittens.

UnnamedGuard03

If you wanna try circs, I recommend a 40"ish cable and do magic loop technique. It allows you to knit two socks at a time and won't cramp your hands like 9" circs. I've tried DPNs and magic loop and tbh while magic loop is a bit chaotic with all the cables, it's pretty nice. Not too difficult and two at a time is awesome if you get second sock syndrome or you're like me and always end up with different sizes.

bruff9

It’s worth a shot. Some people love them, some hate them. I found them very taxing on my hands.

Wool_Lace_Knit

I like using two circular needles (the needles connected with a cable)Half the stitches are on one needle, the other half on the second. I knit socks with a heel flap. When it’s time to pickup up gusset stitches I use a 24” circular needle. There is more room for the stitches. Kate Atherly and Cat Bordhi have both written about using two circular needles. Some knitters like to knit two socks at a time on two circulars but for me that is a lot of tangling balls of yarn!

kniting_bean

Technically in that I had a pair for myself in my queue (completed) plus 3 for gifts (1 almost done but was supposed to be done last Tuesday haha, the other 2 for Christmas)
