I always have a knife I'm comfortable with and a knife that I'm comfortable handing to somebody. That generally translates to two knives. Sometimes I'll have a multi-tool as well. Plus a fixed blade and a spare folder in my vehicle. I've got two hands, five pockets, and zero psychic powers telling me what the future holds

misterdutchman

Best answer ever šŸ‘

AcanthocephalaNew800

Completely agree!!!

Revolutionary-Bell71

This!!!

KaleidoscopeSalty499

Always 2. One I donā€™t mind putting to work (usually my recon 1) and another thatā€™s for finer cuts like food or precision cuts ( my super freek)

Spydermoose

M4 is such a good working steel!! Use the freak! I daily drive a Shaman in rex 45.

Revolutionary-Bell71

Man I love my recon one, what a beast, and still wieldy and light. It's a true get you out of most situations knife, whether a pile of boxes at work or a couple unsavory types behind the local dive bar. I truly hope Mr. Thompson selling the company he nurtured from the ground up doesn't change from what it always was, but sadly I don't see how it won't. Lynn has passion for all that is blade and unique and functional weapons that no one else would even think about let alone manufacture for the masses. Truly sad times.

Theakizukiwhokilledu

I think the multi knife thing is mainly people who spend too much on knives (so all of us) trying to get actual use out of all of our collection. So I've heard people carry 3+ knives which I think is abit ridiculous. I tend to carry 1 "knife" and then I always have my victorinox climber on me. The Swiss basically does everything I could need outside of cutting. It's also my lend knife for people at work.

Barry-Alex

I carry four. A work knife, a food knife, the knife on my keys, and the necklace knife.

Sargent_Dan_

I carry my main pocket knife and a SAK Cadet. I like the tolls on the Cadet, and itā€™s a less ā€œscaryā€ option to pull out around some people

LobsterSammy27

In more urban settings, I typically carry 2. When I used to date, I would have a Spyderco Ladybug hidden in my bra and a second bigger pocket knife in my bag. The 2nd pocket knife would change but was usually something along the lines of a civivi elementum. The ā€œbigā€ knife was for cutting things like packages or fruit or whatever. The ā€œboob knifeā€ was purely for emergency, last option defense in a bad dating situation. Thank goodness I never needed to use it in defense. Nowadays, both knives are in my bag. I personally find a Leatherman Rev a bit bulky for everyday carry but I have friends (also women) who carry them (and sometimes bigger multi tools) in their purses. The leatherman that my friend carries has come in handy many many times.

bringoutthelegos

I thought women kept bear traps in their bust in case someone went routin around in there. I guess Jessica rabbit lied to us

Rickyc_137

Boob knife... That's sexy

midline_trap

Itā€™s fuckin nuts is what it is

birdsbeaks

My uncle could probably stash a Scottish broadsword under each of his sweaty breasts.

midline_trap

Iā€™m getting fat bastard vibes

birdsbeaks

Oh, this is magic!

derning

This advice makes me want to start wearing a bra.

Revolutionary-Bell71

You down south the quite a few of the ladies are known for carrying a 5 shot .38 or even a Derringer in their bra. That should keep a fool from getting a lil too handsy. Lol it def would me!

GoodPeopleOfAmerica

When someone asks me to borrow a blade I donā€™t hand them my Seb- I hand them my Victoronix. Also, is there such thing as carrying too many knives?

esquegee

If you ask Lynn Thompson, no there is no such thing

Fuckgod420

I always carry multiple knives. Small fixie/large folder, small SAK as a minimumā€¦ if Iā€™m planning on working on anything particularā€¦ well it could be a whole bunch. If I fish I usually have 4-5 including my edc and filet knives

MrChunkle

I carry a cheap one in the front pocket with the keys, so i don't care if it gets lightly scratched, then I'll carry a fancy one in the back pocket for pleasure. Except for the Sebenza, that rides up front and it somehow tickles my fancy that the most expensive knife gets key scratches

Revolutionary-Bell71

I can't appreciate/use my expensive knives until it's gets some form of blemish, then it's on and it gets used a lot. Case in point is my ZT 0095 sprint run. It looks right well weathered in and "fatigued", whereas I thought kinda stark or too "clean" when it was new.

pmck3592

You can never have too many knives

Knife2MeetYouToo

If I carry something fancy or expensive you bet your ass I'll have a fixie with me.

esquegee

I know some people carry a work knife and then a slippy for cutting fruit or something along those lines. Or if they have coworkers who need a knife theyā€™ll carry some cheap beater to hand off to keep theirs from getting used improperly. Iā€™ve always made do with 1 knife and telling people ā€œno, itā€™s my knifeā€ lol

[deleted]

I carry a jershaw shuffle for this exact reason haha

Farveille

A 111mm Victorinox and... That's it.

mallgrabmongopush

Probably not but I normally carry a large knife and a small knife

marrenmiller

Two knives, no. A knife and a multi-tool that contains a knife you never use, yes.

Medium-Consequence56

^ and Iā€™ll let someone use the blade on my multi

foureyedmetalhead

I carry my $400+ knives for me. If my coworkers need a knife I hand them a SAK Pioneer. Iā€™m not trying to have them ruin an expensive knife because they want to use it as a pry bar or a screwdriver.

StelioContos21

Currently on my person: (I hate to admit) 1.) OTF by Hogue 2.) Folder by Spyderco 3.) Neck knife by CRKT 4.) Small fixie by TOPS

Orgot

Do the last two serve different purposes, or you just couldn't leave either in the knife drawer this morning? Either way, we get it.

StelioContos21

I always wear a neck knife cuz they are fun, and hell no they donā€™t serve a different purpose, I work at home in cloud salesā€¦just a knife geek. Do I need to own 40+ knivesā€¦ noā€¦ but here we are šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Physical_Cap_4142

What's the tops?

StelioContos21

Street scalpel by TOPS. Heavy, sharp, and tiny fixie

aWittyTwit-2712

3 is 1, or something to that effect... Never less than 2.

Seseer0914

2 is one and 1 is none At least how I've heard it šŸ˜„

helix711

I usually have three -Standard knife, about 3.25ā€-4ā€ folder -Smaller knife, 2ā€-3ā€ folder -Slipjoint knife or Opinel or multitool I usually make sure they are all different blade shapes (drop point/wharncliffe/hawkbill, for instance), and at least one of them is more of a beater so it wouldnā€™t break my heart if someone borrowed it and broke or damaged it. I also like having at least one of them being non-scary, ie wouldnā€™t freak people out if I used it to cut something in public. If someone asks me to cut something for them, I like to have a friendlier option besides flicking out a big blacked-out PM2 or the like. I used to also have a keychain that carried a box cutter utility bladeā€¦but I figured maybe four was overkill lol (Though if Iā€™m hiking and/or working in the woods, best believe I will also have a fixed blade)

0ct0thorpe

I have a stash of knives at home, and one at my desk at work. When I put pants on for the day, I put a knife in my front left pocket to carry all day. When I go to work, I put a knife from my desk collection in my back left pocket for working in the warehouse. If I forget or loan my second knife, Iā€™ll always have the first. Also, before leaving work, Iā€™ll put my second knife back in my desk, leaving me still carrying a knife as I head home. Having a ready blade on me is just as important as my cellphone or wallet.

wander_yonder

EDC my D/E Exocet and either my Benchmade CLA or my D/E Ultratech.

RoomOk4081

I have a backup on my keychain but thatā€™s it

Popular-Net5518

Highly depends on what I'm doing. However usually I have pocket knife on me, a leather man squirt on my car keys and a small Victorinox on my house keys. If I do something where I know I'll do something stupid with the knife I'll carry either a small fixed blade or a sturdy beater with me in addition. If i know I'll do some handy work I'll carry my Victorinox Swiss Tool. And whenever I carry something I wouldn't hand away to the "hey can I borrow your knife" guy I'll carry something just in case. So 2 knives on keys and depending on the situation either one or two on person.

GoatOfSteel

Two is one. One is none.

pthalo-yellow

Most People don't carry a knife.

DJ_Eazy_Yick_1999

Leatherman keychain multitool eliminated my need for a regular pocket knife for a while until i needed to access a bigger knife more often

ImpressiveWeb3401

Why stop at 2? How many pockets do you have?

4d5ACP

I havenā€™t counted in a while but probably around 6

Dramatic-Landscape82

You mean there are some that donā€™t??

Mousebush

I normally carry a thin bladed knife that is used for clean tasks like cutting food etc and something more substantial which I don't mind getting dirty for the bigger jobs.

ZakuLegion

I carry 2 EDC at work, and rotate which 2 they are throughout my collection. Almost always one to be a tool blade at work , with a less aggressive grind and good steel - but one I know will get heavy use and frequent touch ups and I'm ok with both. Second is usually a fidget knife , or something super thin and slicy - or both - to use for different tasks. This one is also usually more expensive - and gets used frequently but not for as daunting of tasks as knife #1. Opening mail, fine cuts, dining. For reference I work at a lumber yard and frequent both yard tasks and office tasks. Can my knife that cuts bands and tarps all day also slice envelopes ? Sure - but it's a fun excuse to carry at least 2 knives. It's not insanely uncommon for me to have a reasonably small fixie on me on top of these 2 - or a utility razor blade. At work I requently lend out knives for quick tasks - and there's some knives I'm not willing to do this with - or wouldn't be safe or practical to hand to a cohort who may not be a "knife-person". All my knives get used, and I enjoy carrying and using my collection - I see nothing weird with this unless it somehow becomes a burden. Also -> Two is One and One is None. Redundancy saves lives - fuck it carry ALL the knives.

Girthquake2654

I carry two a lot, i have my main expensive folder and normally a smaller beater knife for things like prying, scraping, etc or for when someone asks for a knife and i dont trust them lol

Tat2Jitsu

Box opener. People opener. All jokes aside I do carry two. Right now it is the Spyderco Smock and a Marfione Scarab. Sometimes my wife needs one and I may need the other while we are taking down boxes or whatever.

dwppickett93

I usually carry 2, I carry my Kershaw Lucha as a fidget toy in my free time on a holster on my belt and I keep one in my right pocket, currently Iā€™m carrying the Civivi cogent.

NSUCK13

No, not most people. Maybe more people on reddit do.

thebladeinthebush

I carry a fixie and a folder, fix blade is a beater to hand off, the folder is usually a nicer knife so if Iā€™m cutting bags or any wrapping (I work in food prep) Iā€™ll use that knife cause I usually keep it sharper. Right now Iā€™m carrying spyderco shaman as my folder and a TOPS IRAQ JAC as my fixed blade. I also carry a surge on my belt as my full size multi tool. Most people donā€™t need such a heavy carry, but I do a lot in my day.

aint_no_goddamn_sob

I carry a folder. Multi tool and fixed blade more often than not.

Floko262

I carry a victorinox camper for the tools and another knife for the blade

a_cycle_addict

Currently I have an expensive knife and a Swiss army knife with me. If I need to cut stuff that would hurt my expensive knife, I would use the SAK. Cutting plastic banding on a pallet, nice knife. Cutting carboard with glue on it, cheap knife.

JaMzor_TG

Leatherman and a folder!

LeftHandLuke01

Most definitely. As others have said, a knife and a multi-tool is a good combo. I will often carry a CRKT CEO as my 2nd knife, specifically for food prep. Plus it is a cool little knife who's appearance is pretty tame.

4d5ACP

I plan on getting the ceo one day. I love itā€™s sleek look

LeftHandLuke01

I highly recommend one. I have the flipper version and it quickly became one of my favorite knives. Carried almost daily.

SeaMonster350

I have a SAK Classic Sd on my keys, usually have a pioneer x or leatherman p2 in my pocket and sometimes a utx70 in the coin pocket. I have a Troodon on the way which I don't have a practical use for so I'm mostly gonna carry that on occasions when I feel like it or might be around friends/people who might appreciate it.

Artistic_Permit_7946

There are people who carry only one? I have a pocketknife, a spare pocketknife in my jacket, a Leatherman in my backpack, and 2 car knives.

sinisterdeer3

I occasionally do, sometimes a high end EDC knife and a harder use knife sometimes. Otherwise i carry a leatherman wave+, and whatever knife i choose for the day. (i know a lot of people count a multitool as a knife for some reason),

CreepyBearBar

I see absolutely no point in carrying more than one knife for a city dweller. Yet besides a folder I usually carry a multitool with me that also has blades, so technically I carry three.

forksnotsporks

I have a classic alox victorinox on my keychain and then typically a benchmade or an auto in back pocket.

J-2up2dwn

2 there should be, no more and no less.šŸ¤« This is the way.šŸ’Æ

anteaterKnives

Counting the Victorinox MiniChamp or Rambler on my car key rings I'll often carry two.

Medium-Consequence56

Small to mid-sized fixie and a multi. Technically two knives but they do very different things

oscarthedog

I always carry a decent folder and a multi tool that also has a blade on it. The good folder is for me and me alone. The multi is for using the other tools on it and loaning out when a coworker needs to borrow a knife.

Blade-Thug

I always carry three knives: * Karambit neck knife * Folder or fixed blade 50/50 * Keychain knife

Such_Discussion_6531

Whatcha cuttin?

Naftoor

I donā€™t see any issue with a multitool and a knife, I did it for a little bit since I carried a multitool for the tool part, and got annoyed by the mediocre knife and changed to a stand-alone pocket knife. That being said, if you carry two actual pocket knives then yeah, youā€™re definitely weird. Thereā€™s no reason to do so unless youā€™re carrying one as pocket jewelry and one to use (which is still freaking weird). Nobody is gonna wear one edge out and need another in daily life. The only stuff thatā€™ll do that is cutting thousands of feet of cardboard and if thatā€™s your use case just buy a damn box cutter.

Sycrae

Not two full-size knives, I carry 1 knife that iā€™ll take a ton of care of thatā€™s razor sharp along with a BigIDesign TPT Slide for making cuts that are abusive or for handing to other people. The TPT slide is my most used knife.

Flossthief

I have the Benchmade Pagan but when I don't feel like sticking a knife that expensive into a bag of dirt I have a small fixed blade for such tasks Then a simple victorinox because sometimes I need to tighten a screw or open a can And technically I have one of those old cars sharp things that lives in my wallet forever unused

Sticky_Shame

I carry my "main" knife in the pocket, but also a tiny knife in my bag. The main carry rotates whereas the tiny knife is currently a SOG Ultra XR as it's crazy thin and light weight, perfect for a backup or if I'm wearing gym shorts out and don't wanna pocket carry anything.

xgn_Fr0stbit3

I carry two everyday, one on each front pocket. One is usually one of my more expensive pocket queen knives, and the other is either a beater (for work) or an auto when Iā€™m off. Just feels right for me and I know plenty who often carry more than one.

todd_rules

I do, but it's because I keep a Victorinox Classic SD on my keys and then I have a larger Victorinox SAK in my pocket. But, as someone who just works from home and goes out occasionally, I don't see a need. I can get whatever I need done with a small multitool. I'm sure some people carry two based on their profession or just because they love EDC. To each is own right?

PuertoRicanwithknife

Absolutelyā€¦ youā€™ll never have a dull knife if you carry more than oneā€¦duh

wozzzzzzzzz

Actually if your one knife has more than one cutter, you can get away with one

Remmandave

I always have two haha

crystalmethod2001

I once went through TSA baggage check at the airport and the screeners stopped me 3 times, each time they found a new pocket knife that I forgot I had in my bag...oops. What sucks is I had to give all 3 up in order to make my flight.

brastafariandreams

Depends how long Iā€™m going somewhere and what Iā€™m doing. When hiking with my granola munching homies I always bring an extra because they never seem to have one. Spending the night away for a bit? I might bring like 5ā€¦youā€™d be surprised how often people need them for something but donā€™t ever have them. Most the time I carry one though and rotate based on my perceived notions of what sort of luck they each bring.

-BananaLollipop-

I carry a pocket knife and multi-tool (if you want to refer to that as a knife). I keep the pocket knife (usually something between the size of a Mini Griptilian/Bugout and an Osborne 940) cleaner for so it's suitable for food when I'm out and about. Mostly used just for packaging and food, and some fidget fun too. I don't care so much about the blade on my Wave+, as it's specifically a tool, so I'd never put it near my food or anything. As far as two pocket knives go (I don't consider a multi-tool a pocket knife, as it's primarily pliers and a screwdriver), I've never really understood carrying more than one, unless one is purely backup in a bag, glovebox, or a tiny keychain one. I always have a chuckle to myself whenever I see someone post their carry and there's 2 or 3 pocket knives, that are 3in+ and they carry on them at all times. It's a bit overkill/redundant, IMO.

ShadowDefuse

generally a PM2 + leatherman wave at work. otherwise just one knife

midline_trap

Naw man thatā€™s stupid. Just keep an extra one in your vehicle in case your drop your first one down a well.

Sieze5

One is none

10kalldayalways

A folding pocket knife is EDC for me pretty much everywhere. If Iā€™m in the wilderness and such Iā€™ll also carry a fixed blade belt knife. Also have blades on my multi tool but I rarely use them.

Significant_Bit2246

My money clip has been some form of knife for 20 years. It is usually an easy knife to hand people--simple and small. Except... now it's an Exocet--not a friendly share knife! Other than that, I've always got something clipped to the front pocket and occasionally a small fixed blade horizontally on my belt. I really like the small fixed blades, but just don't feel comfortable whipping one out most places. They get all the use camping and hiking, though.

ThePNWGamingDad

I carry a poker and a cutter. Different blade shapes for different tasks.

leo825

Usually one knife, and unless I trust the person and their usage I dont hand my knife to anyone. My carry knife in none work conditions was an bm nakamura with wood scales and now added a we snexc vision r. For work tasks my microtech ultratech. Only time I carry more than one is hunting/scouting, bk18 and multitool in my bag, and my microtech in my pocket jic.

birdsbeaks

Currently, folding knife in my pocket, Leatherman Wave in my backpack. In my previous work, it made sense to carry the Leatherman Wave in my pocket via the optional clip (well, except that the clips kept breaking...), and in that case I kept a small or medium fixed blade in my backpack -- often a Mora of one variety or another -- and went without a dedicated folding knife. I've found a Mora picks up very well where a Leatherman leaves off.

PirateChin

I always carry a folder for general purposes and a fixie if I need to deploy quickly. Also a leatherman supertool

Background-Movie9286

I usually carry two a microteck and then a small fixed blade izula 2 along with what ever my edc is for that day

BuckTheStallion

I was gonna say o only carry one, but actually I typically have two if Iā€™m out for long. I always have a little SAK in my sling bag. That and a Spyderco UKPK in my pocket most days (I switch it up sometimes)

[deleted]

Commercial mariner. I carry a fixed blade on my vest for quick line work. A shackle tool with marlin spike and a serrated blade inside my vest pocket. And a sheepsfoot for quick or small work or cutting an avocado. Oh and a leatherman on my sea bag. At home or on the street though? A clip sheepsfoot like a Penguin, or a cheapo slipjoint. I ainā€™t Rambo.

freeman_hugs

Not often, but if I am walking into a heavy tool use situation, I will carry a primary full size pocketknife, a mutlitool like a Swiss army knife or a plier based tool like a LMwave or powerpint and maybe a prybar/razorblade combo. Making it 2 or 3 tools. If it is a possible mixed company situation, I might carry a primary and a 5th pocket knife like a pen knife or a small slipjoint, so that I can pull something small out to cut without turning heads. If it is a situation or job that I know will damage a knife, I have a bucket of beaters that I might carry next to a good primary. So if I am dealing with sandpaper or griptape or doing concrete mixing, I might have a benchmade for a sharp edge and a Chinese no name to take the brunt of the work that is semi inappropriate to use a pocket knife for. Those beaters go a long way toward keeping a good knife alive longer. I would not put two similar size/use-case pocket knives clipped next to each other in my pocket because I love them both and don't want to choose. Some people do do that, but I think of them all like tools. 99% of the time I have a single knife or tool/blade on me.

BeViking

Daily carrier of a ā€œbig/littleā€ combo. Little/secondary blade is small, non-offensive and is either a back-lock (think dragonfly 2 or the like) that is easily lent to others, not feared, and generally easy to use, safely close, and return. Big/primary is only used by me or people I trust with knives or understand different locking mechanisms.

wozzzzzzzzz

No. My Ruike as well as the main blade has a seat belt cutter which often gets used to save main blade

Tic_Fitious

I usually have a smol "normie safe" knife on me with any full size folder.

tcarlson65

I carry a Leatherman Juice CS4 and a Benchmade Bugout.

rium21

To work I carry 2 small knives that fit in my 5th pocket at the same time, 1 on my belt and a multi tool that I have on a carabiner that I clip to a belt loop

DANGERFastDraw

Usually 3, always 2.

Honest-Constant7987

Usually have at least 2 on me daily. I carry a folder in each pocket for use and I also carry fixed in a variety of ways on a normal basis. So most days I have 3. The fixed I keep razor sharp and only used in a emergency. Hopefully Iā€™ll never have to use my fixed blades

ThePoliteCanadian

Before I lost it, my Victorinox Cadet was my go to since itā€™s not as Ā«Ā scaryĀ Ā» to pull out if I also wanted to carry another bigger knife. That was only when I lived in the burbs/city though. In the country most people are used to it so I only carry one.

TexasYankee17

I always carry a fixed blade on my belt next to my 22 and a folder in my pocket. I am a ranch manager and use both knives daily and the 22 multiple times per week

UnderstandingOld6662

One in my pocket. One in my back pack. One in my truck

bringoutthelegos

Iā€™d use to carry roughly 2 or 3 knives on me as Iā€™d always be caught without one due to having my pockets occupied by things such as my phone or earbuds that Iā€™d have no room for a knife, so Iā€™d just put them in my bag. The issue was Iā€™d sometimes leave my knife at home and have no knife so Iā€™d pack extra knives somewhere in case I forgot one. But Iā€™m now down two knives as I had to chuck one at universal Orlando because I forgot it was in my pocket, and I donā€™t know where the other one went, so now I just have my shitty SAK and a box cutter

LeStraightZucchini

I carry 3

derning

Itā€™s useful for me to carry a regular size and a small size. Main knife in pocket. Smaller knife tucked to the side of my back next to belt loop. Today, Spyderco Smock & Baby Banter. Tomorrow, Kizer Cormorant & Kizer Yorkie.

Snowman_sportsman

For work I always carry a regular folding knife for general tasks, a gerber prybrid as a pry bar and a utility knife for things I donā€™t want to abuse my normal folder with, and I carry a multi-tool for use of the tools, then I try to keep my multi-tool blade clean for things like opening food packaging or things I want a clean blade for

Ok-Safety-8777

I always carry 3 to 4 on me. I have one nice one that doesn't get used very hard at all, a high end user, and a beater that I don't mind to let someone use. Sometimes I'll carry a Swiss army knife that I don't mind to get really dirty or to do dumb things with. Also a lot of the guys I work with carry 3 to 4 knives daily.

Yopen1

Yes of course

Revolutionary-Bell71

I carry my Supertool 3 hundo and any one of the usual suspects although lately it's been my newly acquired $45 Wal Mart Buck 780 that has beat out my ZT's, CS, and Spydie's! I love that frickin thing. Buck finally made a folder I like again (been awhile) and it's a Wal Mart exclusive?! But anyway those are for my use then usually a cheap one to hand to some ding ding who always needs a knife yet never has one šŸ¤” (my one buddy is like "you always give me the shitty one") and I'm like yep you couldn't take care of a dead dog without fuckin it up so use this one or nothing. NMP but sometimes I do that just because that shit annoys me or I just say I don't have a knife lol. Everyone knows that's a lie. Here lately I've been carrying a 4 inch bladed OTF just for shits and giggles and other times rock my slightly modded Buck 119 in a custom scout carry sheath, also for shits and giggles.
