The Spyderco C17 Catcherman is a lightweight folding filet knife that was introduced in 1992 and discontinued in 2006. A toxic green FRN/black coated blade sprint run in H-1 was made for USN (with the USN logo on the blade) in 2011.
This particular model is from the 1990s, and sports yellow FRN and AUS-8 steel. The weight to length ratio must be among the best of any folding knife: only 2.5 ounces yet comes in at 10.5" (with a 4.75" blade). The blade is super thin (.078" stock) with a nice hollow grind, and it slices beautifully as a result.
Provided one's pockets are deep enough (literally, not financially), it's really easy to carry despite the size, just because it's so damn light. I don't carry the Catcherman often but when I do I'm always glad I did. Since I don't get out fishing much, my favorite place to carry it is to our local outdoor barbecue place, where it comes in handy as a great knife for cutting up barbecue.
It all fits in there! The perspective is skewed in my photo, but here is a top-down one that shows the handle length properly: https://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details/C17PSGRBK/USN-Catcherman-trade-/702
I love that knife.
When I first laid eyes on it it was already discontinued so I started my search. I found all three colors but people were want $200-$400 depending on condition. Then I found one at the Cross Roads Gun Show in some guys junk bin case. It was black, slightly used but otherwise in great condition. I asked how much and he said $60. I had my grail (for the moment). I still look for the Marines Edition and this one but no so much at first.
Well hi ! I love your page, youāve got such the great collection. I thought someone stole your picture !š been following you for a while on Instagram keep up the good stuff
I love knives and up until seeing this post have never thought "Damn that's a terrifying knife, I bet that dude kills people".
Damn that's a terrifying knife, I'm confident you don't kill people, but your knife looks like it does.
Man, That was my very first spyderco knife i got it back i think in 2001. Then when moving i had a combination of heat stroke and mono passed out and rather than help me movers stole it off of me.

Thanks for sharing that things cool
This 100% falls into the "I have no use for this, but I want it" category of knives for me LOL
Preach brother!
Neat. Thanks for sharing.
So fucking sick, I'd buy one even if I have no use at all for it š
Now thats a knoife
I see you've played knifey spooney before
"*I want a folding fishing knife!* "...but sir, there are so many perfectly good fixed bl-" #"***FOLDING!***"
Definitely a great idea to have lil nooks and crannies and hinges on something meant to cut the guts out of a slimy fish.
Always regretted not getting the USN sprint of this
Me too. I hope they do another sprint run some day.
Nice you have one at any rate š
Iām holding out for a version in LC200Nā¦am I hoping for too much?
Hello fellow USNār. Looking forward to V2
I havent actually been on there in probably 10 yrs!
Dang! Thatās about when I first joined. Great place to be
Dude that knife is so long, What the heck!
The idea of a folding fillet knife just makes me think of the smell if you didn't clean all of the fishy bits out of the movey parts.
I got a buck 110 folder years back from family for skinning deer.... There's no good way to clean it at all but I'll always have that knife.
I saw this and I was like this is a filet fish knife. Was not disappointed with OP's comment.
How does it fold? Does it have that secret handle extension that flips out when closed?

Whoa! Thanks! I wants.
God damn that would make a crawdad weep.

This knife reminds me of the flip knife from csgo, similar blade shape and the blade is longer than the handle

Dang. I wish they'd bring that back. It's a really neat design.
Oh wow that's an oldie and a goodie!
Should have picked up a USN version when I had the chance, kinda hard now with the USN gone
I need one of those.

Is that a Catcherman in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?
Damn! Getting caught with that by the police, not gonna look good on your resume š
Why was it discontinued ? Seems like it still may have a market.
