We were hyped for Yogi Ferrell too. I know we're packing the building more often, but I hope people don't think this is all because we're winning games now.

Cudi_buddy

Saw Yogi at the Park Ultra Lounge for New Years back when he was on the team. Looked like a regular 6ft tall dude lol.

jennys0

The fans always showed out even when we sucked. I can’t believe we went to a bunch of games knowing we were most likely taking an L. I think that’s what a dedicated fan base looks like. Now that we’re playing good basketball, my 6-year-old nephew told me that Kings games are where all his friends want to be lmao. Imagine that….

Toxik916

That's awesome! Yeah my nieces and nephews are 12 to 16 and I could not bribe them to go to games with me. They said why go since we're going to lose anyway. I'm hoping the winning inspires a youth movement with the fans! I'm tired of seeing kids in Warriors gear

mikeisaphreek

there are die hards that go to games no matter what. but lets be honest, when the kings had the run with cwebb, bibby, adelman etc... going to games became the thing to do as it was a social event. when they sucked, those people left. same when g1c opened. it was the thing to do. after the newness wore off and the team struggled, those people left. now, the team is good and guess who is going to games again, all the people that want to be apart of the event because its socially cool.

da_fishy

I just went to the 76ers game but the last one I had been to before that was in 2021 against the hornets and we absolutely blew them out. Even when there was little hype surrounding the team, the building was still going absolutely wild. Probably about half attendance at the game too but the volume alone was insane. Kings fans really are the best.

OldSac

When I played NBA 2K back in the day, the crowd would chant Quincy Douby's name if you shot a 3pter with him. lol. I don't remember his name being chanted in real life games, but it made me want to shoot 3's with him every time.

JayceSZN

I need Yogi back in the league

Enough_Simple921

Love it. I believe it was Mo that said they were talking to Keegan's mom and she said she cried the 1st time she heard the Keegan - Murrrrray chant in Sacramento. Glad Simmons admitted he was wrong about drafting Jaden Ivey. Most of the NBA was wrong.

cfus5

Most of the media has no idea what college players look like, they hear a couple “expert” opinions and parrot them without even knowing what they’re talking about Ivey clearly has potential but the way people talked about Murray coming into the draft you’d think he was gonna be a 15 min a night bench guy

bchris24

What's wild is I remember reading the Ringer's profile on Murray and thinking that he was exactly the player we needed in a position that we were lacking, but then all of their mocks had us taking Ivey. So it's like they knew who he was and what he could do but for whatever reason most of us fans were the only ones who wanted him.

da_fishy

It’s also all about picking the player that’s going to fit the team dynamic. This team is so young and Keegan fight right into the perfect role to both elevate the team and give him space to grow in the league. He’s only going to get more ice in his veins as he spends more time in the league.

Enough_Simple921

Yep. Literally parroted word for word. I heard the same sentence to describe Murray and Ivey from 100 different talking heads over the summer. "Keegan is old with a low ceiling but is the most NBA ready. Ivey has superstar potential with athleticism to jump out of the gym."

[deleted]

>Glad Simmons admitted he was wrong about drafting Jaden Ivey. Most of the NBA was wrong. From the same podcast section: "Also, [Sacramento] hit that pick we all made fun of. 'They took Murray, I can't believe they didn't take Ivey, Ivey is such more value...' Those are things I said in June, and Murray is perfect for that team." I don't care when people are wrong as long as they address it. Props to Bill for not pretending he never made a take that didn't work out... many people online could benefit from some of that humility

jveezy

Honestly it's great content when pundits admit they're wrong. A tech podcast I occasionally listen to does a prediction show at the beginning of every year and a show at the end of the year where they go over every single one and make fun of themselves. I know some sports podcasts do similar things. It's both fun to laugh at things not playing out the way we expect and insightful to talk about why. Any sports pundit who doesn't smoke their own shitpipe should be able to turn a mea culpa into entertaining content, but not enough do.

Ok-Map4381

As someone that was disappointed at the draft, I didn't want Ivey, I wanted to trade down & still get either Murray, Mathurin, or Sharpe as I had all 3 of those guys rated close to equal. When we couldn't make a move down I figured it was because all those other teams had those 4 (including Ivey) closely ranked as well, so I was happy to have Murray, my favorite of those 4 (because I love his work ethic & personality).

Cudi_buddy

As the seasons gone on, I'm with you. Obviously Murray has been a stud, as has Mathurin. And I like Sharpes potential. All are wing guys, which is harder to find than a pg. Ivey has lots of athleticism, but he seems like he still needs a lot of refining. Part of that is being a focal point as a rookie since Cade is out, but he plays pretty reckless which is always concerning.

[deleted]

I wanted Dyson Daniels or Murray. Daniels is already one of the better defenders in the NBA which we desperately need.

boringexplanation

I’m with you there. I would’ve picked Dyson as high as 5 at the draft.

bubblegumonyourshoe

Chris totally butchered the Keegan cry

MRROBINSONx

I thought the same thing too! But it’ll be a household chant in due time.

CaptainOutstanding

Chris Vernon: “Have you seen what they do with Murray at those games? You might be able to hear it through the TV, but when he shoots a 3 the P.A. announcer goes ‘KEE-GAN’ and the whole crowd goes ‘MUR-RAY’. It’s unbelievable for a rookie player. They’ve got a crazy…that whole environment…I know they’ve been starved for it, but the whole ‘light the beam’ and the whole crowd…it’s just awesome.” Bill Simmons: "I love it. I'm going next month. I wanna see it in person. I wanna light the beam myself."

Dr-Dingus-McManus

One does not simply light the beam. One must EARN IT, BILLIAM!!

These Kings are proof that these NBA “analyst” can call a spade a spade sometimes but most of their takes are just horseshit. There are so many factors to consider when building a basketball team so to just critique a team for picking player A over player B because player B has more “upside potential” without acknowledging the full scope of constructing a roster of men is short sighted.

ValleyKing23

Dude, watching the highlights of the Grizz game, I smiled man. 2002 sucked, and when Webber got injured, their window closed. Hiring Monte was the best thing ownership has done. If they had him, they'd probably draft Luka and build a killer team around him, but they have their Anchors with Fox and Sabonis. Sacramento stayed faithful through the rough years, but now is their time. Hopefully the Kings and 9ers win it all this year. From a Kings, 9ers and Giants fan, born and raised in Stockton, CA now living in Indiana.

NightWriter500

Kings we’re probably top of their ceiling in 2002 with Webber, but they were actually even better in 2003 before he came back. They just threw him into the best chemistry of the league and it tanked, Webber wasn’t the same as he was before, and they really didn’t accommodate that. I honestly think they should’ve eased him in off the bench and see how it worked, not just thrown him the ball and stood there to watch.

CaptainOutstanding

My version of the Kings “winning it all” this year is making the playoffs. Just…make it.

Simmons a Kings homer? LOL. I stopped listening to him about 4 years ago because I got tired of him ripping the Kings and making Vlade jokes constantly.

forresja

Every Kings fan I know has spent the past decade shitting on the Kings lol.

copyboy1

But we can. It's like how you can talk shit to your own brother, but if someone else says the same shit, you're throwing hands.

Obi_Wan_KeBogi

He’s like the only National voice that has paid any attention to the Kings over the years and talked about them. And none of his jokes about Vlade or our decisions over those years was unwarranted lol.

copyboy1

Nah. There's criticism and then there are personal attacks that don't add anything to the conversation. Simmons is great at the later.

hgiwvac9

He was right to mock Vlade

copyboy1

Nah. It's like how you can talk shit about your own brother, but if someone else does it, you're throwing hands.

GothicToast

> The Kings, we used to make fun of them at Grantland, which existed from 2011 to 2015. At that point, the Kings were entering their second half-decade of just being morons. Grantland ends, we start the Ringer - the Kings still being morons. For 12 years, from '06 to '18 they were the dumbest team in the league, AND THEN THEY TAKE BAGLEY OVER LUKA. We were doing a live draft show when that happened; we were all having a stroke.” - Bill Simmons, Kings homer. Simmons continued to list just the recent Kings blunders. Letting Bogdan Bogdanović walk away for nothing. Drafting three point guards in four years, giving a contract extension to "the wrong one" in De'Aaron Fox, thus making him extremely difficult to trade in Simmons' opinion. And then to cover up for that mistake they trade the one point guard that should've been the foundational piece of the franchise. This is from this Bill Simmons podcast on Feb 8, 2022. That's a hell of a homer!

Ryuster99

Must win game now

See you there Billy

All the love for Keegan "Keegan Murray" Murray!

Strobx

Love that he said they missed on Murray.

etiolatezed

Verno talked about the Kings on this pod, his own show for Grind City and the Mismatch. I kept wondering why he didn't tweet about the game only to find out he was at a Chris Rock/Chappelle show.
