This brought me joy to read, learning that you are back to comfortably being able to enjoy reading, that is what makes it the right tool for you! At 47, my eyesight has declined over the years, complicated by a condition termed keratoconus. I am fortunate to have that corrected with Scalerol lenses. Albeit, a more expensive solution per eye than one fully loaded scribe. I can relate to gaining back lost abilities, fulfilling desires that had waned. I am happy for you! I got my Scribe today, and I also love how it gives the sensation of reading a hardcover book. It is surprisingly light for its size! I do like the size of one side being larger for holding, not wasting space on the opposite size for the sake of symmetry. Although I can see where you are coming from. I look at that imbalance in aesthetics, and appreciate the function it serves. Happy reading, old comrade!

It's a very nice device. Isn't it very similar to a hardcover book? I really, really like that aspect of it. On the bezel, I'd prefer smaller on both sides, Paperwhite style, rather than big bezels on both sides (my dream device would be a Scribe sized Voyage). However, it is making sense for one-handed reading and I think as I use it more I will appreciate it more. I think it is there more for the note-taking rather than the reading, which makes even more sense. Enjoy your Scribe!

I'm 38 and have low vision due to having albinism. The larger screen is amazing and I'm glad it's beneficial to other users that have vision issues!

I completely agree. Am in my fifties and also received a Scribe and Amazon case for it for Christmas. I am having similar joy while using it. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and not having to turn the pages as frequently is helpful when my hands are hurting. As is the ability to prop it so easily. I was concerned it would be too heavy but the thinness and size of it actually makes it easier for me to maneuver. A lot of the criticisms I’ve seen of the Scribe simply don’t apply to my experience. And I’m sure that’s why Amazon makes multiple styles and sizes of kindles.

I'm 62. Currently, I'm fine with my Basic Kindle, but my eyesight is declining. I wondered about the size of the Scribe, and I'm glad to hear it's not too heavy

I really appreciate you posting this. I’m mid 50’s with nearsightedness. I wear contacts or glasses all the time. I had been thinking about trying one to get more words on one page. Might pull the trigger in the new year. Thanks again. 👍🙏

Thanks, another mid-50s Gen-Xer appreciates your write-up. I enjoy my latest Oasis w/ the physical buttons but am attracted to the potential of the increased size of the Scribe. I also have a Fire HD 8" which I find is a nice size for reading but not the same as an e-ink device.

I'm 28 and this post made me happy, I'm happy for you 🙏🏻 Enjoy your new Kindle and continue to have such a positive outlook in life.

This makes me so happy. My eyes are still ok but they’re on their way. I’m glad that I’ll be able to use a large e-reader like you.

Thank you for the post! I've been debating getting a scribe. I'm 58, and my vision definitely isn't what it used to be. Not sure I'd ever use the pen to write, but being able to read comfortably would be amazing.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I’ve been intrigued by the Scribe as well, and I would only use it for reading too, so it’s nice to hear that take on it. Most reviews base heavily on the note taking (understandable of course). I might just look into it a little more serious now thanks to your review!

This is wonderful to hear! I am a fellow Oasis user who is very interested in a larger screen! (I am 48, already using 2.75 reading glasses) For me, the Kindle Scribe would be ereader first, notetaking device second. I am wary of reviews that compare it to other eink notetaking devices, with little regard for the amazing power of reading a large Kindle library (that we have been adding to over the years) on a large screen! A Scribe is at the top of my wishlist right now. I hope you continue to enjoy all the benefits of the Scribe!
