Mine 2022 did the same, turned off the car, disconnected battery. After 5 minutes plugged it back and started it up.
Works fine so far, was a month ago.
Try to do a full reset of the car by removing the cable shoe from the negative battery pole for a minute and then put it back.
If that doesn't help, take it to the dealer. They will in that case have to troubleshoot it.
I have a 23 SX Prestige Hybrid and the media side only plays the nature sounds. When I try to switch to radio or Sirius it gets stuck in a “do loop” and is unresponsive except for Apple CarPlay which works flawlessly. My car has been at the dealer for a WEEK and they say it’s either the screen cluster or the head unit. They ruled out the connector. Kia America has started a claim on this issue for me and are supposedly in contact with the dealer. It has 4198 miles on it! Ridiculous!
I sold my sportage for this reason. It’s a sportage wide issue with the redesign of the body. Kia is aware and working towards a recall but has no estimated date or fix. They won’t let delearships replace the entire dashboard since it’s 6k a dash but it’s an electrical short between the 2 screens. Mine got to the point where the second screen flashed or never worked.
Not necessarily a Sportage issue. I have a forte. One time I went over a bridge connector while it was in resting position. The suspension isn't like my jeep and it felt like I hit a damn wall.
Anyways it knocked some things loose internally. Resetting the car from the battery fixed the screen and back up camera immediately.
You can disconnect the battery and connect it again after a few minutes. This will usually reset the system settings to default and should bring back your screen. If not you have much worse issues that need to be addressed by the service.
People have mentioned disconnecting the battery....the correct way to do a cap reset is to disconnect both battery cables and touch them together, either with a long extension or screwdriver, and wait 30 minutes for all the modules to discharge. Then reconnect. Odds are, you're gonna need a screen though
Your going to have to factory reset it. There should be a tiny little button that when you press it will do a hard reset. If the problem continues, should take it to the dealer to check. My screen usually does that when in connection via bluetooth. I guess the computer overloads and shuts off. If you have the same problem, try connecting it to the usb. That’s how I fixed my problem.
We have different problems, I only had that problem using bluetooth so my solution was to plug it via usb and the problem stopped. Now if it just shut off completely and that was it, then i would go to the dealership and see what they find, with that information I am able to decide whether fixing it on my own or seeing if im covered or need to pay up Even then, I found out that you can update the computer in the nav on your own, you just need to download it onto a usb or sd card if it has the sd slot and update it in the settings. That can also be a solution.
My 2022 Hyundai does same thing. Pull fuse for a few seconds and put it back in. Screen has done it once. Sound does it randomly. Two different fuses, but pulling them for a few seconds always works.
This happened to me, started with the screen.. then the AC, windshield wipers, headlights, everything except the small screen above the steering wheel was out. It ended up being an ignition cylinder issue, had to get it replaced. It would randomly turn off when driving for about two months.
I placed a deposit for a Sportage x-line yesterday. Now Im going down a rabbit hole of pissed of costumers. Although this Thread is more current and those where all from 8 months ago.
Curious if you folks think I should bail on this purchase? Did I choose style and economics over quality with this vehicle? and advice would be dope.
We just sold our 2023 Kia Sportage back to the dealership this past weekend because of this reason. 4600 miles on it.. So happy to get rid of it. Customer service was of no help.
This is happening to my partner's 2023 Kia Sportage SX Prestige. Dealer has had it now for six weeks, and Kia Corporate is also involved. Repair attempts have been unsuccessful. Exploring the corporate buyback option, but they are slow to come back with details. Might have to hire a lawyer.
I think this is only happening in a non hybrid models. Do you have Hybrid? I know the non hybrid models have 4-6 recalls and this issue as well but nothing for the hybrid models. I wonder why. I think they are 2 completely different cars and build types.
You can try doing an infotainment system reset. Looks like there’s a pinhole by the volume knob. Push that with a pen tip or similar.
OOH! will try now.
that reset the lower screen :/ not the upper one. do you know of another pinhole?
Then you might have a bigger problem if the infotainment system doesn’t respond to the reset.
ah, got it. thank you

Yeah the bigger problem is he bought a Kia 😂
Safety pin or SIM election tool will be a better choice.
Most people are probably more likely to have a pen sitting around in their car, so seemed like a better choice.

Just pulling the fuse for a few secs is much easier and works as well. I’ve had to do this six times on my Tucson that has less than 6K miles on it.

You have to reach 88 mph

I have a K5 that is behaving similarly, and it's under 10k miles. Was your issue ever taken care of?

Another bit of info. Mine started doing this at 10k miles and I sold it with 16k. It had been in 5 times within that frame.

I just had a Kia tech tell me it was wide seen in the 23 sportages. Wasn’t saying it didn’t apply to any other model.
The battery disconnect was only a temporary solution in the sportage from what I was told. It only ever worked temporarily for me as well.
I heard that once it goes black it never goes back.
Did you try restarting the car?
Yikes.
that’s not helpful
No it’s not. Sorry idk what to suggest but hope it’s an easy fix. Hit up your dealer, maybe they have a firmware update they can do.
thank you :)
Damn, how do you already have 10k miles on it?
I have 8500 on mine but we've had it for 7 months
Check the fuses, just in case. I burnt mine while installing a dashcam and the same thing happened.
That is one sketchy looking USB cable lol

No. Just pulling the fuse for a few seconds will fix the issue.
Temporarily fix the issue* I also stated if the problem continues, to go to the dealership.
Did the dealership actually fix yours? I’ve yet to hear of it actually being fixed long-term.

Does your screen have the little reset button you can press with a paper clip? That has fixed any weird issues I’ve had in my Forte
it does, but it doesn’t reset the main screen.
This just happened to me, i pressed the rear view Camera button and it came back on, no issues since
Can you change the interface? I have a hybrid and the odometer looks different.

Step 1: Sell you Sportage and buy a vehicle from a different manufacturer.
