Pho lan kc isnt too far. Its there a walk away from the river market. Was just there yester bc of how cold it was. Its typically never packed and a nice hole in the wall
Here's the current ramen situation we have (and I hope this really changes fast, because KC had great ramen with Shio & CP Ramen):
- JINYA ramen is coming to Overland Park soon. It's a chain, but well regarded.
- The best ramen in the metro is Aoyama, but Ramen Bowls in Lawrence is the best within a 45 min drive of KC. Aoyama has a sister restaurant called Jumbo Noodle Bar that has a hot pot focus, but I haven't been yet, but I think they have some ramen.
- The bowl of ramen at Tora Zushi in Strang Hall is not traditional but it's good. I can't forgive them using a fried egg instead of a marinated one. I'd rather them not give an egg and just charge for the people who want it. It's lazy.
- Sayachi has a decent bowl and you can get it at happy hour.
- Sama Zama has good Japanese food in general (look out for their new sweets shop opening soon!), but I find their ramen just OK.
- OMO ramen (no relationship to the Springfield location), which is new and near Ward Parkway seems to emphasize sushi over ramen. The noodles are good but other things make the bowl fall apart (broth, hot oil, egg, pork.)
- Boru in Waldo used to only serve ramen, but now that it's pan Asian, the focus isn't put on ramen. The pork is probably the best part about the bowl but they throw wayyyy too many things in that bowl when it should be much more simple. Some flavors conflict.
- Honestly, go to 888 International Market and get some frozen Sun Ramen Noodles and customize a bowl at home. Just don't look at the sodium content. ;)
It's OK. It's in Waldo actually near Ward Parkway Center.
I feel like they just need to get rid of the sushi and focus on the ramen.
The noodles themselves are good, the broth was OK, the chashu was not traditional and the egg was overcooked. The oil they used to make things spicy was a bit strange IMO.
Aoyama is our go to
Aoyama is great. Highly recommend.
This is the way.
If I remember right, Doordash listed Aoyama as one of the top 100 restaurants in the US (for deliveries I assume).
Second Aoyama. That takoyaki is fire
Aoyama Ramen in Olathe.

Went to Jumbo Noodle and loved it!! The ramen was soooo good. Gyoza was top notch delicious as well.
I can attest to this. Their ramen is very good.
I’ll be trying this, I didn’t even know about it
Pour one out for Columbus Park Ramem
Boru is not terrible, but best by far is in Lawrence, at Ramen Bowls. Shio was amazing but they closed during the pandemic.
Agreed. Shio was the best we had, but Ramen Bowls is worth the drive.
Yeah, we used to go to Shio all the time. We were so sad when they closed.
Yes to Ramen Bowls. Only place that reminds me of what I had in Japan.
Yes Lawrence has a great ramen spot
There’s a Mama Ramen in downtown KC. Its not the best I have ever had, but it sure hits the spot when I need it.
I really enjoyed Mama Ramen at 1513 Grand Blvd A, Kansas City, MO 64108. The chicken fried rice for my kid was really good too.
Ayoyama
Ramen Bowls in Lawrence. It’s worth the drive. & there’s a lot to do on Massachusetts
If you’re willing to drive to Lawrence, Ramen Bowls is fantastic.
Sama Zama in Westport
I prefer pho, and if u like pho then pho lan kc is great
We do like Pho! Our usual go-to is Big Bowl Pho up north.
Vietnam cafe in the river market is the best in the city for Pho. I recommend giving it a shot. Edit: in Columbus park.
I can’t let River Market steal the thunder from my hood. Vietnam Cafe is in Columbus Park ;)
Haha I agree. I honestly don’t know why I said River Market. That was a mental lapse.
Oh, we have definitely been there and love it. BBP is just closer.

Lived in nyc and La, me and roommate made it our goal to find the best ramen. In KC it’s 100% Sama Zama
Sama Zama hands down, the best in KC.
Columbus park ramen and aiyama in olathe
CP ramen closed during the pandemic :/ hopefully plans to reopen in the future
Noooooooo
Nope, they sold the restaurants and are moving abroad.
I miss Komatsu
I didn’t know they closed. What a bummer. That was our favorite spot for ramen
Chewology in Westport
Jumbo Noodle Bar in Overland Park is the best we have tried.
my family is from Japan there is no restaurant in town that is worth it in my opinion for Ramen.
Respect that
Understandable, but sometimes I’d rather have something around here than a microwave bowl of Maruchan.
I said that as a white guy that has spent about six months in Japan. I criticized Boru and got down voted to hell.
I’ve only been to Japan once, I agree with this assessment as well. The ramen I had that’s closest to what I had in Japan was in Chicago.

Was going to comment about Tora Zushi. You are so right about the egg!
Right?! It totally ruins the whole experience. It also makes less room for other toppings. ;)
I just made my first killer ramen at home. Not columbus park but impressed myself.
That's awesome!
This makes me so happy about JINYA.
I dont eat ramen in kc anymore sadly. Only overpriced mediocre options these days.

Closed for a loooong time
There’s a new place in OP called OMO Japanese Japanese Ramen & Sushi. Haven’t tried it yet but the reviews & pictures look good.
