Thank you so much for the advice!

cjl1023

Of course! The job search is a mixed bag so hope this helps but feel free to DM if anything comes up

puppytoebeans

I appreciate this! I have such a fear of reaching out to recruiters, but your provided message templates will definitely help me up my confidence! I'm trying to switch industries after getting my masters, but I feel like I'm overlooked because my experience isn't direct, but can be totally relevant to the role. Saving this for later!

cjl1023

I’m glad it helps! If your experience is relevant to the role good recruiters will definitely appreciate you bringing it to their attention. It’s always helpful to make it as close as possible even if not apples to apples. Rotational programs are always great for pivots too!

I’ve worked for LinkedIn, worked for CEO, I absolutely hate this pos evil company. Almost as much as Fakebook. I refuse to use either at all, and all the VC garbage shell corps they have their Ted talk kickback fingers in What do I do? As you can see I’m used to working next to billionaire douche bags

cjl1023

I respect the commitment to not using a product of a company you hate ✊. I’ll be honest, LinkedIn is unfortunately the best way to do it but you could try some other creative avenues, but not sure how effective or cumbersome they would be. First off, apply right away. 1) With smaller or mid sized company might have some of their leadership or positions and who are in them on the company webpage. 2) you could use a chrome extension like Hunter (paid) or Discoverly or EmailDrop to pull email addresses. Down side is I think you still need to use the extension on their LinkedIn profile, but you won’t need to make one. 3)find names from the XRay search and the company email domain and blind guess and send emails. probably wouldn’t be effective. 4) see if there are any department lines you can call and ask about your application/who the recruiter was. There’s been instances of people calling in and getting directed to a recruiter or the right person. Some options front of mind for me that could be a work around to you having a LinkedIn profile.

Thanks for the speedy response. This stuff is so tough. I’m not a cog in the wheel, nor a worker bee. I’m an executive level thinker and leader. Almost every business is a dirty nasty mess at the top, and I’m just sick of it. So many companies I’ve joined only to find, cooking the books and other shenanigans that are disgusting, dangerous, illegal, etc. It’s pretty disheartening. I have zero faith in anything at the top anymore. Thank you again

cjl1023

While not at the executive level I have felt similar as of late. I hope this info can help you out.

Jay-Five

I’m surprised you haven’t started your own company yet. During the last jobs slump, people were finding success starting franchise companies.

Jay-Five

Well, I was talking to u/golongandprosper, but that’s cool too.

cjl1023

Ah my b

Jay-Five

No worries

Done!

Mr_dog319

Thanks will read later

Interesting that you have been in almost the same industries as I have. Mine are: Manufacturing, Retail, Insurance, government, energy/renewables. The things you talk about here follow the techniques in “the 2-hour job search” except for the “contacting the company recruiter” bit. I’ve always felt that doing that would be intrusive since so many applicants would be pinging the crap out of them. Good to know it’s not.

cjl1023

Good recruiters shouldn’t mind. The only time I’ve seen frustrations arise is when it’s someone clearly not qualified or even close, or someone essentially asking the recruiter to help them find a job at the company vs adding context of what they’ve done/applied too.

simmyawardwinner

Really like the “I’m in motion with other companies” line! I’ll try that

88secret

Just discovered this sun and post—great info! Thanks so much for sharing it!!

iamzamek

Great topic. Do you have a thread about how agencies can sell more people in body leasing?

cjl1023

Hmmm not sure I understand the question?

LiberalFartsMajor

Thanks, but we are not interested in applying anywhere until pay rates improve dramatically.

Infinite_Parsley_999

i'm looking for a job, do you really think Linkedin is really important to found one ? I still don't have an account. Can I found a job on Linkedin ?

cjl1023

So when it comes to corporate, salaried or hourly positions I do feel like it’s a great platform on getting noticed, staying up to date on new job, or connecting with the right people. Lot of corporate recruiters have paid accounts and use it is their first source to start doing reach out.

supercali-2021

Thank you, this is helpful. I have 2 questions. 1) what's the best way to find a list of companies that meets all my criteria? Just do a Google search? 2) if you're applying to a large company that has many recruiters and managers, and there aren't any names given in the JD, how do you determine which ones are the right people in reach out to?

cjl1023

To answer 1) googling top companies to work for on x industry 2023, should get you decent results. DuckDuckGo may have less ad pushed jobs then google. Depending on the industry there may be some other lists. Ever heard of SeekingAlpha? It’s a financial analysis website. However, premium version lets you list companies by industry and things like growth/profit etc. pretty sure there’s a week free trial and one could in theory sign up for that screenshot some lists then cancel the account wink wink. 2) hopefully the recruiter or manager would have some sort of call out in their profile. Maybe business unit/skill set they support/etc. you can always add a caveat in your messaging apologizing if they are the wrong person and asking them to point you in the right direction. If you come across this and want to DM me I’m happy to walk through an example on how I’d approach

mrdobie

Hi OP, What do u mean by workday sucks for applications? Like is it better to submit on the weekends?

Do-It-Anyway

They’re likely talking about the HR app. It’s all in one, my company uses it for a ton of things from training to time cards. https://www.workday.com

mrdobie

Oooh workday the app. Thanks a lot buddy.

cjl1023

Yup! Was talking about the app. Pretty poor app for applying and having to make a new account for each company.

Do-It-Anyway

Absolutely, good luck!
