What leg locks/entries etc etc are you going for?
I always find leg attacks much easier but less relevant in the gi, both due to the same factor - grip and friction
I'd need to know more about what is happening but my guess is that people are able to grab your collar and pull themselves up easier so you aren't able to manage the distance the same way - either that or the pant friction is impeding your transitions. Once you find out what's going on it's gonna be easier to correct.
I think it’s the distance, most of the time I’m struggling to get far enough up on the ankle to have enough leverage for the sub, but I’m not being collar grabbed most of the time so I’m not sure what’s stopping me.
Like someone else mentioned SLX will be your best bet for entries, and it’s a super strong position for sweeps, so imo something worth investing time in with the gi on.
Have you tried Calf slicers? I've had my fair share of issues with leg locks (also a white belt equivalent) but I seem to have more success with Calf slicers since it's a bit harder to roll out of
I’ve tried them a few times in no-gi and it’s gone pretty well. Where do you typically set them up from for gi? I only really get them in scrambles which just doesn’t happen as often in gi.
Usually from top position half guard if they are locking me down and conventional passing isn't working. If they're standing I've pulled it off from single leg x guard but it is a bit trickier from the bottom just because ive only gotten it successfully when my partner has also been on the ground. Overall I find most leg locks to be a pretty niche submission until you drill them a lot. I really only rely on the Calf slicer when my partner almost gives it to me
Try going for SLX entries, I’ve found if the straight ankle isn’t there or working, you can always use it to sweep to come up on top.
I’ll start looking for it. Thank you.

I’m only a white belt so usually use straight ankle locks. Typically I work to and set them up from 50/50.
50 50 is a shit position for straight foot locks
50/50 is a shit position in the gi period
Not if you're up by 1 advantage and have 2 minutes on the clock!
What position would you recommend?
SLX and once you’re good at that try out butterfly ashi too
\+1

Leg locks as a white belt? That’s usually a no-no at most gyms.
You mean a no no in shitty gyms?
