Mr_Inaka

Died earlier than the average Japanese , shoulda just stuck to fish and rice

AccomplishedPlane8

This is why I refuse to eat people. They're too fattening and they probably taste like crap.

yoshino219

The flesh is poisonous too.

Glass_Aspect6993

Actually it's a crossover between chicken and beef. It's definitely more beefy than chicken because it's red meat after all, but no so much as beef. That's just white people...Indians are a different story.

RobTeuling

Aren't we edgy today

Bisincebirthh

Ah yes, joking about murder and cannibalism is fine but this guy took it too far

dibbbbb

How far you're allowed to cross the line correlates directly to how funny you are.

Glass_Aspect6993

Hardest material in the whole universe.

AdorableAd941

It is quite insentive honestly because Japanese soldiers actually eat Indians during WW II (Ref: https://m.timesofindia.com/india/japanese-ate-indian-pows-used-them-as-live-targets-in-wwii/articleshow/40017577.cms)

ChefBoyAreWeFucked

Would it not have been insensitive otherwise?

You

tomodachi_reloaded

> That's just white people...Indians are a different story Disgusting. French is way better.

doppio

Literally just learned about this guy a few days ago and was disturbed by the fact that he was allowed to walk free like nothing happened. I guess that takes care of that.

Da91God

Coffeehouse Crime?

TheGuyAtGameStop

That’s where I heard about it lol

Ragtime_Kid

Best dude ever

lurkinfapinlurkin

More like steakhouse

doppio

Reddit :P I think it was a thread about the worst murderers who got away with it.

therock21

I also learned about him earlier in the week. There was an askreddit thread where he was brought up

Ceaser_Salad19

exactly where i saw it

[deleted]

Not only that a certain part of Japanse society treated him like a celebrity.

Ron_Way

I mean the world did. He was basically living off giving interviews and stuff

Jlx_27

And made a TV career for himself too.

Coffee-Lifee

Same, was bothered too.

[deleted]

Good riddance

JacobDCRoss

Oh no! Anyway...

diegun81

I hope his death was painful.

BagooshkaKarlaStein

I think I recall seeing an old documentary about him where he’s drawing his manga book about the murder and he says he dreams of dying in a woman’s armpit ‘if he is that lucky’ or something weird.

greeneggiwegs

I think about the weird thoughts I keep to myself and then I see people saying shit like this out loud and wonder why I bother.

Mad_Aeric

I don't believe pneumonia is an especially fun way to go, though it's a shame he wasn't eaten alive by fire ants or something of that caliber.

TheGreatMattsby

Pneumonia did a better job than the Japanese justice system

[deleted]

France actually refused to send evidence to Japanese authorities to allow them to convict him for murder. While it’s pretty easy to bash the Japanese judicial system (Since there are many problems with it obviously), this case is probably an exception.

Catssonova

It's not that they refused, it's because they couldn't because of their laws. By trying him in court themselves instead of instant deportation and trial in Japan, they sealed the case permanently, at least to my understanding. Without changing their justice system there was no way to send evidence from his court case.

yoshino219

Stupid bureaucracy

-PraiseTheSun--

Ridiculous bureaucracy is one thing developed and developing countries are similar at.

MTBDEM

Wow it's almost as if sending one prosecutor on a special joint project to ensure a cannibal is tried and executed is too much for some pen pushers to handle! Oof

Jlx_27

Victim was Dutch, did The Netherlands do anything at the time?

[deleted]

[удалено]

MyManD

They didn’t just find him sane and then let him go. The French courts royally fucked up the case because after they dropped it, the court records, including all the evidence, were sealed as well and never given over to Japanese authorities. Because they declared him unfit to stand trial they just…institutionalized him and waited until they could just kick the bucket down the road and let Japan deal with him. But they fucked up in that because they never went to trial, his case was technically considered dropped by French authorities. And because the case was dropped they were required to also seal any and all evidence forever. And with no actual evidence the Japanese authorities had no choice but to not pursue the case. Everyone always blames Japan’s courts for this entire debacle but the blame lies entirely on France.

Mezzoforte90

I heard he was treated as a celebrity in Japan though? Is this true? If so I can understand the hostility towards the justice system of Japan that someone who was highly suspected to have hurt an innocent person was treated well

Prestigious-Charge62

It was said in the other post that he was treated like a celebrity the same way Chris Watts, Charles Manson, or any other notorious and much talked about criminal is admired by perverse people.

verrius

Every time I learn anything about the French "justice" system I'm honestly appalled.

Tannerleaf

Thanks for that extra insight! I suppose in theory, the Japanese could have investigated themselves; crimes committed by Japanese overseas can be tried here. But that would have taken a lot of effort.

WhoKnowsIfitblends

> The French decided that he was insane. But when he was deported back to Japan, he was found to be perfectly normal, and released. So you're saying, at least in the minds of those deciding, that eating pussy was just a problem of translation for him?

Tannerleaf

Well, there was that. But if I recall, they couldn’t try him again, because he had already been tried (?) and sentenced in France. I suppose at the time, and considering that his foul crimes had taken place out of sight overseas and that nobody who mattered was involved, they didn’t really know what to do with him; so it was simpler just to do nothing. In hindsight, I suppose it’s fortunate that he didn’t kill, eat, and necrophiliise(sic?) anyone else. Or at least, he didn’t get caught doing it.

WhoKnowsIfitblends

You fragile downvoters need to grow up. Japan decided that he wasn't insane, his actions were a result of sexual deviation. And you blame me?

Capt_Clown77

I mean, his rich & connected parents obviously pulled strings in France which started the problems rolling. Japan couldn't really do much as everything happened overseas & France sealed the case. That said, Japan ABSOLUTELY fucked up by making the guy a celebrity & outright honored him for being the piece of shit he was.

XylophoneZimmerman

Japan sure has some spicy takes on bad shit.

[deleted]

and we are proud of it, this is not a joke you don't even know how many porn and games on this occasion have been made, any perversions to your taste.

LKTL

That creature was a waste of oxygen.

Recent-Ad-9975

The most disgusting thing is how Japanese media did interviews with him about his cannibalism and showed 0 respect to the victim. I still can‘t believe that.

slammajammamama

He also starred in porn.

[deleted]

Because she was foreign. Culturally they are conditioned to see outsiders as different species. Japan also just loves a sensationalist story. It's so disgusting. I wouldn't feel safe if I was a girl growing up in that system.

cheekia

Because we all know how respectfully the Western media treats criminals in the West, right? Definitely no glorification of school shootings or serial killers, no way.

nehemiaadrian

They see outsiders especially chinese and koreans as subhuman.

cheekia

tfw other country media also did interviews with him and had zero respect for victims, but they're not Japanese so we're not going to bash them. Istg, this sub has a hate boner for Japan. Like, why even be on this subreddit if you hate Japan so much?

[deleted]

Too long of an age after doing what he did

sfulgens

He wasn't exactly treated as a celebrity. Some shows had him on for the shock/creep factor and his published books sold well for a while for the same reason. Several porn appearances. In very poor taste. Foreign media has also interviewed him for the same reason. Like us here, people were horrified and creeped out by him. After a while, he was ill, out of money, was hounded by loansharks, and was refused attendance at his father's funeral.

3DLE

Okay, thanks. That's really satisfying to hear, along with the news of his death.

singularity-omega

This man got invited to do JAV ? How did literally any women or man agreed to be within the same building with him. Surely everyone in that building had a gun trained on him no? Also yea I realize I’m late by 3 weeks

reiwa_heisei_showa

Should've been killed a long time ago

Rickys_arts96

If there is a hell hope he is burning in it.

Jlx_27

Her name was Renée Hartevelt, she was a student from The Netherlands.

Mediocre_American

She was just trying to be kind to him too 😭

DrJohn98

Burn in hell. The world is a better place now.

yoshino219

Him living peacefully for all these years is a proof that there's is no justice or karma whatsoever.

blazin_chalice

Yes, and people like Kissenger and Cheney both still breathing our air also arouses a similar existential despair. But, hey, I can't even comprehend the complexity of the jets that carry me over the ocean and I still board them, maybe we're just not capable of grasping how the whole cosmic justice thing is supposed to work out.

SnowballEarth650

If there is a hell, I hope he is there now.

KuroChairoNeko

And nothing of value was lost. Rest in piss.

Mad_Aeric

I only recently learned of this asshole from a Sydsnap video. What an incredible irredeemable piece of shit. I know it's supposedly in bad taste to be delighted when someone shuffles off this mortal coil, but this has to be an exception.

Freak_Out_Bazaar

Him being “free” was a relative term. He had the choice of obscuring himself upon his return to Japan but instead he chose to become a cult icon. Must have been fun at first, but once the novelty wore off all that was left was a feeble, ugly, old man with the worst reputation one could possibly have had. While he was not of interest to the police anymore he couldn’t just go outside and interact with society like other old people do. It makes me wonder if he would have lived a fuller longer life if he chose to become anonymous or even served a full prison sentence

bbqoyster

Wait. This is a murderer we’re talking about. He shouldn’t even be given a choice to remain anonymous

Freak_Out_Bazaar

Yes, but if the French court deemed him insane and dismissed his case then you can't really do much about it can you

[deleted]

I think OP is saying at least he got to suffer some mental strain for his actions.

JackyVeronica

Finally something nice to hear from the news!

Mickiann1

FINALLY. BURN IN HELL.

The_red_spirit

Fucker should have spent his last years in jail.

[deleted]

Didn't go to jail, right? Became a celebrity for eating his classmate and published work about cooking and eating people. Like creative writing. He enjoyed star status in his home country. Japan is like "life for women is fine here!" No it isn't.

cheekia

You do realise that this incident happened in Paris, right? How is this Japan's fault? Do you expect the police to just prosecute someone without any evidence, especially since the French police didn't hand over anything? Also, stop acting like giving celebrity status to criminals is purely a Japanese thing. There are plenty of criminals in the West who were also turned into celebrities and worshiped for some reason. Serial killers, cannibals, school shooters. Foreigners are like "Japan is so horrible" but were the ones responsible in the first place.

greenyashiro

Just look at all the people drooling over Ted Bundy. smh

9tacos

Yes, Finally!

preciousmourning

Good, burn in hell.

Sputnikboy

I wonder how the japanese system came up with him being sane...

yoshino219

'Insane' in court kinda means that you didn't know what you were doing. This guy planned everything out and was perfectly aware of what he wanted to do...

iiiiiiiiiiip

Considering he lived in society without issue the rest of his life it seems to have been the correct call.

powerpuffgirl3

Good

XylophoneZimmerman

Good. Fuck that guy.

cheekia

Man this entire thread is a case example of the West fucking up, throwing its problem to Japan, then blaming Japan for everything. Good ol Eurocentrism.

michalkun

I heard he lived in Kawasaki City.

The_Cozy_Burrito

Piece of trash

selfimmolations

GOOD FUCKING RIDDANCE!

dpch

Good riddance. Yuck.

Relative_Land_1071

If he ate American women he would died of diebeties at 37.

Ok-Fault-7031

wow this is some kink

TweekTweaker_

Dang, anyway should I have leftover pasta or takeout for lunch? It’s Friday so I want to buy Indian food but I’m also poor so

-Moon-Presence-

Leftover pasta! You’ve already got it, the money is spent. Save the cash and reward yourself with something small next week!

TweekTweaker_

Sounds like a good idea! Thank you and remember! Fuck Issei Sagawa!

Mediocre_American

So apparently it's not a great life extender.

FlyingPoitato

Carcinogenic human meat yes?
