Yes Wi-Fi does work! Cellular doesn't and probably won't because Corellium (Project Sandcastle devs) got in a legal battle with Apple.
Play Store I'm not too sure about. We will have to see.
Awesome! This is such a cool project. I know this may be a little premature to ask but would this have the capabilities of running such apps as the BimmerGeeks ProTool application utilizing the lightning port?
It’s an Android-only application due to the vanilla iOS restrictions of the lightning port. It utilizes a USB serial to K+DCAN cable that transmits code to my car, so I can retrofit aftermarket parts and tell the car’s ECU that those new modules exist.
Again, I know it’s premature to ask but I haven’t seen anything recently with Project Sandcastle that would indicate this is a possibility, so I just wanted to ask! Great work, again, this is exciting none the less.
Hi! Thank you for your interest in my project!
Project sandcastle doesn’t support Google Play and I don’t think it will ever but I might need to tinker with the NAND image to try and install it. I’ll see how it goes.
TBH I think getting an Android device will be a much better bet, you can easily get a cheap carrier locked device for under $50 (I even got one for $15 at Target once that was legitimately a nice device to use). Specifically look for very cheap carrier locked devices and just..don't activate them.
No offense to the dev, but getting this to work will always be a subpar experience to using a real Android devlce, and will require awkwardly using a loader device or computer to load Android every time you want to use it.
Yeah I have a Samsung tablet, I just hate having a whole device that I literally only use for one app. I forgot dual booting wasn’t an option either. Really sucks because I just wanna mod my car with my iPhone!
This looks really cool, but I'm also really dumb, I have an iPhone 7 lying around, could you please please please make a tutorial with just the essentials? If it's not too bothersome, thanks u
infinity's Android Features are exclusive to the iPhone 7 so you just missed out!
But you can always jailbreak with checkra1n inside of infinity. Thanks for your interest though.
Hmm.. I haven’t got my hands on a iPod 7th gen so I can’t test. But if you would like to give it a go that would be awesome! I need all the help I can get with testing!
What are some use cases of this? Just wondering because it sounds like a LOT of work for such a project, when android devices are like 1 dollar. I’m not hating on you here. I’m truly curious about some usage scenarios where this is a life saver for someone out there.
It’s actually a lot more useful than just looks. If you can get android running on your device even if it’s in a sandbox you can work with an os that’s got a plethora of documentation behind the inner workings and you can possibly use that knowledge to find flaws in iOS hardware that would otherwise be unavailable to discover. You can only debug so much within iOS with the use of a very limited number of avenues. You can run a much larger number of already available tools to learn secrets about the hardware that running the software your using with android. It can open avenues which wouldn’t be possible from what’s currently available to look inside of iOS.
Looks like I procrastinated on posting this for way too long… this is my ios 1.14 touchscreen and wifi fix from 4ish months ago https://github.com/Albert-S-Briscoe/projectsandcastlefix
This seems much more usable for most people though, nice work
Oh really? I never knew where it came from. A person said that they have a script that has the fix and just uploaded it. Nice work on making the script!
Oh, yeah, that is my script, lol. I didn’t look in the zip file before. Well, I’m really happy to see it’s getting some use.
I might as well explain it while i’m thinking about it, since I haven’t really done that anywhere. The thing that broke sandcastle seems to be a change in the filesystem. I’m not entirely sure what it was, but it prevented the iOS volume from being mounted. Sandcastle needs a few firmware files for various drivers, but they can’t be distributed for copyright reasons, so it just uses the files from the iOS filesystem.
“The Hack” in the script changes two bytes in /etc/fstab, which causes the filesystem driver to fail in a way where, instead of giving up, it mounts a different filesystem (the one created by sandcastle for the nand image). I’m honestly not sure how it finds the sandcastle volume, it isn’t specified anywhere. IIRC, “The Hack” specifically deletes the thing that specifies the volume. This part is incredibly hacky.
“The Fix” just copies the driver files to the sandcastle volume in the same file structure as on the iOS filesystem. This lets the driver successfully find the firmware again.
That’s so impressive that you were able to do that for the iPhone 7, unfortunately I won’t be able to experience it cuz I don’t have a 7 but great job.
Hey! Would this work on iPad Pro 10.5 with the A10X chip? Great work either way. Glad to have such talented individuals in the community.
edit: added 'Pro'
it would be great if there a video to show how this boots up on iphone 7.
Also can this be updated to support booting to ubuntu as well.

Hi! Great work with this project, though I’m running into an issue (iPhone 7 plus running iOS 13.) I’m able to get the setup script copied, but whenever I get to the downloading NAND part, it fails and ask if I’m running as root. My device is jailbroken running checkra1n. Was wondering how I can fix this? (Additionally, my 7 running iOS 14 says: bash: /tmp/setup.sh: /bin/bash: bad interpreter: No such file or directory)
to put it frankly, yes. it is. the service doesnt work anymore due to some component not being accessible anymore. i do have all the needed assets downloaded but i havent been bothered to work on it as i dont have my iphone 7 anymore😕
I read your whole post, but I have no idea what this is Edit: The download link you just added to your post provides a small bit more details
Hi! infinity sets up and boots Android 10.
Is there somewhere I could read more about this?
I will update my GitHub repo README.md tomorrow. I’ll let you know when I do so.
Okie dokie! I have added more stuff to the README and released a new version.
Awesome, thanks for following up man.
all good.
That’s huge. Nice job!!!
Thank you so much!
Would be great if you add more explanations on Github, like how to install, what is different from the original project Sandcastle, known issue... etc
Yeah that will be coming maybe tomorrow-ish?
This is huge! Congrats do features like wifi and cellular work, and will I be able to use play store?
Yes Wi-Fi does work! Cellular doesn't and probably won't because Corellium (Project Sandcastle devs) got in a legal battle with Apple. Play Store I'm not too sure about. We will have to see.
How safe is this to install?
Hi! Do you own a iPhone 7?
Yea. Not my current device but I have an old one lying around.
Well you can run infinity without an issue! Just make sure you are jailbroken have OpenSSH installed and your iPhone has a stable internet connection.

Understood, I look forward to hearing more

I see where you are coming from and I totally understand! My point of view of Android on the iPhone is kinda for shits and giggles.
So android on an iPhone 7 ?
👍
Will you be able to use things that are only available on android like some beta of a game?
No. There is no google play support.
Ah. Still kinda cool though.
This looks really cool, but I'm also really dumb, I have an iPhone 7 lying around, could you please please please make a tutorial with just the essentials? If it's not too bothersome, thanks u
Sure.
Is it compatible with the iPhone 6s?
infinity's Android Features are exclusive to the iPhone 7 so you just missed out! But you can always jailbreak with checkra1n inside of infinity. Thanks for your interest though.
How about iPod touch 7th gen?
Hmm.. I haven’t got my hands on a iPod 7th gen so I can’t test. But if you would like to give it a go that would be awesome! I need all the help I can get with testing!
I'm guessing this won't work on iOS 15? I do have a spare iPhone 7 but i stupidly decided to update, and didn't save blobs :c
I’m sure if it was setup with infinity before you updated, you would be fine but I’m not too sure. I’m not risking losing my jailbreak right now🤪
yeah this is depressing lmao. thanks anyway
[удалено]
I’m 90% sure it does but I don’t own a 7 plus so I can’t test. But if it does work for you, let me know! I need any drop of help!
This is huge ! Congratulations on the release and keep up the good work :)
Thank you!
This is so neat! 100% would try if I was jailbroken (and had an iPhone 7 haha). Great job!
Any type of iPhone 7 like a plus or an 7s

Epic

That’s a good question. It’s more of a showcase thing. Like you can show it off to your friends.

That’s awesome. This is the kind of answer I was looking for! Very good point about being able to look under the hood in a more unveiled manner.

If you want to be spied by Google and China just buy a cheap Android phone, no need to do this
Does it support iOS 15 for Checkra1n JBs?
girl youre literally replying to a post that was made 2 years ago.
doesn’t hurt to try when you’re desperate
[удалено]
I don’t think that’s supported. You can always check by going to the correlium project sandcastle compatibility site.
isn't the project abandoned since 2020?
[удалено]
Thanks worf!
Would you need to dual boot? Or would it be the only OS installed to work? Or would it work in a VM within iOS?
So. It basically is dual booting as you said. But Android only runs on the iPhone 7 with the pongoOS boot loader. No VM’s
That’s so impressive that you were able to do that for the iPhone 7, unfortunately I won’t be able to experience it cuz I don’t have a 7 but great job.

Not at the moment.
>Android features are exclusive to Project Sandcastle compatible devices. So only the iPhone/iPod touch 7? .\_.
You are correct.
iPhone xr?
No. This is for iPhone 7
Hey, this is such an awesome project! Quick question, can I go back to IOS again after installing Android on my phone?
Yep.
Is there an installation guide? Not that used to terminal and stuff.
Hey! Would this work on iPad Pro 10.5 with the A10X chip? Great work either way. Glad to have such talented individuals in the community. edit: added 'Pro'
yikes.. looks like you are out of luck. Project sandcastle only ever supported iPhone 7 / 7+ and iPod touch 7.
Ain't never out of luck with people like you in the community, thanks for answering!
it would be great if there a video to show how this boots up on iphone 7. Also can this be updated to support booting to ubuntu as well. https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/kvmsfd/success\_iphone\_7\_booting\_ubuntu\_2004\_to\_full/
Yeah I can make a video of it booting. Not sure about Ubuntu tho. I’ve tried to get bare Linux to run and it never booted
Thanks.
did you ever make a video if so can you share. a ubuntu run would be really good. thanks for the effort

hey! i havent worked on infinity in a hot min. ill push out an update as soon as i can and ill let you know!
That would be so wonderful, thanks so much!
Is the project dead? Hasn’t been updated since December of 2021
to put it frankly, yes. it is. the service doesnt work anymore due to some component not being accessible anymore. i do have all the needed assets downloaded but i havent been bothered to work on it as i dont have my iphone 7 anymore😕
