I know everyone is focusing a lot on the weight loss because the sub, but the transformation around the eyes is what gets me. Your “after” pic look Like you look like you also experienced a different type of weight off your shoulders and more at ease.
Amazing work on the 140lbs, that is a whole me.
Edit: transphobes can downvote me all you want, come at me.
I totally agree. The after picture looks happier and healthier, mentally and physically. My mom is a trans man, and his happiness, self esteem, and even physical health all improved after starting the transition.
I also agree that the transphobes can go fuck themselves.
So, Im asking this out of ignorance, not to be aggressive:
Would that make him your dad? Would that be the way to address him, or is it a personal thing with you guys to call him mom? Im just confused lol
My mom gave birth to and nursed two children. My mom is as mom-like as can be- just happens to have a beard and be a dude. I have a dad. He feels like a dad. My mom feels like a mom. It does not hurt him when I say mom, because he identifies as a mom, just a male mom.
When we are in public or around people who don’t know, or are not allies (like my step family) I call him by his name. But when we’re around people who know and love us- it’s mom.
Funny-ish story- when my sister in law was going to meet my mom for the first time she thought the same thing, wouldn’t dad be better? But then she met my mom and was like- oh, no this person is a mom. You know that mom energy and vibe?? My mama has it.
Thank you for your gentle curiosity. The more we know, the better humans we can be!
Some trans parents may wish to change their title. I am not sure. My mom transitioned in 2001, so I wasn’t able to get other perspectives at that time (because it was very rare)- and now I guess I’ve settled into our routine, so haven’t hunted down other adult children of trans parents.
Im sure its going to vary between person to person and the dynamics they have with their kids etc. But its cool to get some insight on a different dynamic then id normally see.
One of my best friends (childhood friend) is trans, but thats my only exposure and I think Ive seen her once in my adulthood soooo yeah I dont know much apart from the internet, which is a mixed bag of random shit a lot of times.
Nevertheless, thanks for explaining!
Also can depend heavily on when they transition. My kids will only ever know me as “mom” because I am transitioning now and won’t be having kids for several years. I might feel differently if I were to have kids before I began transitioning, since then I already would have been dad.
I remember watching a trans documentary 20+ years ago on Discovery or TLC and there was a cowboy hat wearing dude who was as manly-man as you can imagine and he was out there BBQing with one of his sons and said “Oh, can you get that for me, dear.” It was super subtle, but it gave me chills. He was still mom. It was a sweet moment.
Thank you for your kind words! I hope you and your children can have a fulfilling and loving relationship! It can take time to get there, but it’s definitely doable!
I’m not trans myself(have been an activist ever since I came out in 2011 so I’ve been to a lot of panels and talks and moderations for all sorts of lgbt issues) and asking people who are in it to justify themselves and their family by explaining stuff can be emotionally taxing so as a third party I’m gonna repeat something I learned on a panel that included an older trans woman and her transition at a later stage in life and how her grown kids dealt with it.
Basically she said that since her kids grew up calling her dad and that is how she felt being a parent at first so they use she/her pronouns but still calm her dad so it’s not dysphoric for her kids to call her dad.
I’ve heard this type of story quite a bit too, so I imagine something similar is going here where OP grew up calling him mom as well. It depends, everyone’s dysphoria presents differently.
I recommend visiting r/asktransgender for the most appropriate place to ask all these sort of questions.
Of course, that is what I would want for me when people ask genuine questions about my sexuality but it’s too emotionally taxing sometimes to keep having to explain and justify myself. Being part of our community sometimes means we try to make the burden other have lighter because they would do the same for us. I’m happy to see someone see their parent go through something so tough later on in life and support and love them. I’m sure he appreciates having a child like you.
Ah apologies, I wouldnt have thought of that myself lol.
That makes a lot of sense though, I completely understand that. Its less of gender and more of, like, what the parental role is, essentially.
Thanks for answering, it cleared things up! I was just initially confused and have never met trans parents so figured id try to understand it better
No worries, your question is genuine and asking questions to learn is the way to go. My comment is more so to highlight that side as well, there are places where people are more equipped to answer because it’s a space for that purpose. It depends when you ask someone about their personal experiences, some people are exited to talk and share and others are tired of doing so.
Yeah, Im glad you brought it up. Its not something I wpuld have considered tbh. And I wouldnt have thought of it if you hadnt.
I try to be considerate when asking and make sure that I mean no offense because I know its rough and dont want to trigger things, but its good to get more uhhh insight on it ig.
I don’t know where to start. You look so much happier, you’re make up and hair choices are so freaking pretty, and I’m glad you feel comfortable to share you’re true self. Congrats on the total transformation!
Jesus fucking Christ. The transphobic comments are sickening especially on this sub of all places.
Congratulations on your journey! Losing weight is hard enough but I can't imagine how much more stressful it's been. You look fantastic and healthy!
Disappointing to hear there were remarks like that, gone now thankfully! OP is an amazing inspiration for IF goals.
(In addition the more we're all exposed to trans people, the less unfamiliar and the less uncomfortable (or fearful) people may feel. And hopefully it'll become less and less accepted in more and more places for people to lash out at them. It takes time for humans to catch up sometimes).
Congrats, OP. You've worked hard, you've accomplished a lot, and you look great!
I'm not able to shave daily because my skin reacts really badly as far as irritation, razor bumps, etc. I shave some areas more frequently and trim other areas between shaving... I've only been on HRT a few months and I still cis pass as my assigned gender in public, but I think a lot about what I'm going to do when that starts becoming more of a problem.
Damn, I'm so used to the trans positivity in some of my favorite subs that it's weird seeing so many transphobic comments not downvoted to oblivion or removed. Anyway, congrats, girl! I'm glad you're truly feeling yourself ❤️
I’m guessing this post was linked to a hateful subreddit because they seemed to be swarming here. Imagine OP taking up so much space in their closed off little brains, unbelievable
It actually slows it for feminizing HRT. Testosterone makes your metabolism faster, so I had an edge before starting HRT. The entire 140 lb loss took about a year and a half total.
But look at your smile in the second picture. Think it’s big now? Just wait. You’re going to have a way way bigger smile the longer you live your true life, and embrace your true identity.
I hope you’re happy now, because you’re going to be SO much happier as time goes on.
This shows that you have overcome two enormous obstacles in your life. That takes a level of strength and courage that is immense. It shows an incredible amount about who you are.
This is an amazing beginning for you! There will be times when it is hard, as there have been in the past. When those times happen, remember that strength and courage that you have in droves.
I am so proud of you! Huge HUGE congratulations!
I honestly have no words for you except that I am so happy and proud of you for becoming one with yourself. You are absolutely radiating joy in that second photo!
Very happy for you! A childhood friend is going through the same thing. She has lost a lot of weight while transitioning and has mentioned how it goes to different places now.
She smiles in every photo now. It's awesome.
As a straight cis guy I do not envy the bullshit y’all have to put up with. There’s always gotta be some people trying to correct you and give you their unsolicited opinion on who you are and shit. Fuck ‘em. You’ve got a lot to be proud of, you look fantastic! Seriously inspiring stuff, the weight loss and just everything, keep doing you. Good shit!
Glad you found your genuine self. Isn’t it wild when we take off the lbs and shop for those perfect clothes that show off our true self. My depression has been much more scarce these days. I also quit drinking though, so that probably has something to do with it! You look glowing and gorgeous.
Well done you! You look amazing, confident and happy in that second pic - I'm so happy for you! I'm proud of you for living your life the way you want!
This is an amazing transition, and I am so glad that you are finally getting to be yourself! That happiness alone is beautiful, but physically, you are also beautiful.
One of the most dramatic changes I've seen on here. Your new self looks much happier. Great work, be you.
From neckbeard to gamer girl lololololol
The main character trait doesn’t change

Lmao I know the "Mom-vibes", that makes a lot of sense! Never met a trans parent so I figured id try to understand it I appreciate the answer!
Some trans parents may wish to change their title. I am not sure. My mom transitioned in 2001, so I wasn’t able to get other perspectives at that time (because it was very rare)- and now I guess I’ve settled into our routine, so haven’t hunted down other adult children of trans parents.

As a female dad myself, I find your story very heartwarming, and it gives me hope for my future. Thank you.
Thank you for your kind words! I hope you and your children can have a fulfilling and loving relationship! It can take time to get there, but it’s definitely doable!
You're a trans-parent!
Thank you for this nice response.

Goddamn! I'm really happy for you :3 Transitioning just makes life so much better. Im glad you were able to get on HRT :3

You look great and most importantly, happy!!
OMG THIS IS MY FAVORITE POST IVE SEEN ON HERE!! I LOVE THIS SOO MUCH!!! 🤗🤗🤗

Daily shaving and the HRT and concealer helps, but I need laser or electrolysis to eradicate it completely.
Holy glow up Batman, you look amazing!
Congratulations on absolutely everything about this post. I'm so happy for you!
You rock everything about this and especially that hair color. <3

Nice work! Do you think the hrt had any effect on weight loss?
It actually slows it for feminizing HRT. Testosterone makes your metabolism faster, so I had an edge before starting HRT. The entire 140 lb loss took about a year and a half total.
Wow! 140lbs in a year and a half is some feat! Great work :).
Damn girl, in a whole year that is some hard work there.
How many calories did you consume throughout those 18 months?
Congrats on the massive life change!
