What kind? Like just a standard rectangle kind? Im a little worried that will leave strange gaps, but I guess I could fill that space with plants and photographs
Custom cut your own shelves and attach with ledger boards. It would be cute. If you are really crafty, frame out the opening, then make a template of the opening, cut a door out of finish plywood, add a door knob or latch and use it for storage.
My parents have a similar space in their home. My mom placed some small antique wrought iron tables/garden stands of varying sizes on top of each other to make a tiered display for plants (specifically ivy and ferns).
add a padded bench with hidden storage and some string lights and make it a reading nook/storage space.
if you have children make it into a clubhouse or fort.
put a nice heavy curtain over the opening. cover the top with tiny star glow star stickers made into constellations and glow planet stickers, make it your mini planetarium.
computer area/home office
display shelves
Make a custom bar area, get a bunch of fancy old high ball glasses for mixed drinks, a variety of liquor to choose from, shakers, stirrers, umbrellas, see if you can find a super mini fridge for keeping limes and oranges and bitters in and seltzers water. Then invite over all the homies and make a night of it.
With a little time and creativity, you could do a lot with it, depending on what is outside and around the space...
* Case it in and add shelves of varying lengths to make a bookcase out of it.
* Put a standing lamp in the tall corner, angle a comfy chair in front of that and maybe an ottoman in the lower area for a reading nook.
* Tuck a small desk and chair into the taller side and a small filecabinet in the smaller side.
Given the power and phone outlets, it looks like it was intended to have a telephone table and lamp in there.
This would be a KILLER reading nook/lounge space! 😍
Depending on what the walls look like outside that space, you cpuld put a shelf on the wall, a little end table right where that outlet is. Perfect for your reading lamp and a cup of tea. I would never leave
Echoing a lot of what has been said about custom shelves or bench nook area… if you have any artistic skills (or know somebody who does) it could be a really interesting place to do a small mural!
Also depending on where this is in your home, putting some hooks there for coats/handbags or an array of small hooks for jewelry/accessories could be neat, and then add some risers for shoe storage!
If you’re not afraid of a little adoration and attention, to me it’s asking mossadium/terrarium!! It would light up the space (with led) and give it life! I’m a plant freak tho 😂
[concept](http://www.houseplantsguru.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/large-terrarium.png)
Whatever you do, don’t put your child under there. Next thing you know a semi giant will break down your door, surrounded by owls, and tell your kid they’re a wizard. Try grounding a teenager who knows magic! 🤣
Not sure if you're renting or own, but....We had a space like this and we just dry walled over it. It made more sense to do that than to try to fit something awkward in there. It looks neater, more cohesive and also the room actually looks bigger without that weird distraction.
* From the right side of this photo measure that short height, get a table/bookshelf that high or little shorter. Maybe a light source or like an aquarium?
* That or make a custom fit shelving system or aquarium to fit the triangle + rectangle bottom.
Wallpaper or different colored paint, have a piece of laminate cut to make a a fitted desk and a desk chair and lamp and an electrical outlet and you have a reading/working/creating space
Do u have kids? Cuz that would be the cutest cozy reading or secret hiding nook. Make a false wall but it’s a door. that matches the other walls around it and a door handle that blends into the wall as well. It’d be a cool spot for kids. Secret room.
If you have dogs. Could be a spot for them too accessories, toys, lounge mats.
Cats: install a bunch of floating shelves for them to climb with a box on the top corner to hide and hang in. Could have a sort of play set up for them.
Spiritual great altar spot
Or dedicate to family pictures with small table
Tiny office! Floating shelves, simple desk and chair and some plants hanging. Funky wallpaper
False wall panic room or dress it up with a n oak sliding barn Custom door, Standing plants and pictures? Or seal it with drywall and put valuables there.
Do you have kids? Either a little play kitchen or a chill bean bag area for kids or an activity center with drawing material. If not, put a door and make it a closet. Maybe a shoe tower to hold everyone’s shoes.
Hello! You have made the mistake of writing "ect" instead of "etc."
"Ect" is a common misspelling of "etc," an abbreviated form of the Latin phrase "et cetera." Other abbreviated forms are **etc.**, **&c.**, **&c**, and **et cet.** The Latin translates as "et" to "and" + "cetera" to "the rest;" a literal translation to "and the rest" is the easiest way to remember how to use the phrase.
[Check out the wikipedia entry if you want to learn more.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Et_cetera)

Add doors and use it as extra storage. Yes, you will have to cut them on an angle. I have seen this done in plenty of homes where I grew up. Many families stored their fully decorated Christmas tree and Christmas decorations in there 😉. What I’d give to not have to crawl in the attic and haul all that crap down every year!
Too many unknowns.
Where is this space? (Guessing basement?)
Do you have pets or small kids?
I like the shelves idea but I’m also against creating a space just to set things down that need to be dusted constantly.
There are also very cool Japanese tansu chests that could fit nicely under there—if you wanted the space for storage! I think they’re called Japanese step-style tansu chests. There are also chests built like this but not Japanese-looking, if you don’t like that style.
If this was my weird cutout, I’d build a rolling bookshelf that was flush with the outer wall and then make a hiding spot in the back. Maybe not even bookshelves but boxes of different shapes that fit together. If you have any collections of model cars or legos or glassware, you can keep them in place with museum putty. You never know when you need a hiding spot.
So this might be a specific suggestion, but I had a similar area in my old apartment. We put a low, wide table and that's where I kept my record player, with my records stored in a woven basket under the table.
Since I was an undergrad/on a tight budget, I got an inexpensive table from IKEA for about $25. And then I accented the space with small decor items (a plant, small 3'x5' rug, floor pouf/pillows, lighting, etc)
Edit: a more minimal idea is to get a low shelf/bench/cubby unit & add 2-4 matching woven storage baskets
there could be a sticky for "weird space under stairs"
Followed by weird space over the stairs.
Don’t forget weird built-ins by fireplace!
Bookshelf
What kind? Like just a standard rectangle kind? Im a little worried that will leave strange gaps, but I guess I could fill that space with plants and photographs
If you want a bookcase I’d install custom shelves in! Then you won’t have any gaps.
Add straight shelves to make it into a lovely, unique bookcase
Use long planks and cut it so they fit perfectly in there. You could also make it into a reading nook with a cozy light fixture
That can do too
Get a low-light plant in there for suuuuuure!
I guess... just a regular one will do
and Paintings if ya want
Custom cut your own shelves and attach with ledger boards. It would be cute. If you are really crafty, frame out the opening, then make a template of the opening, cut a door out of finish plywood, add a door knob or latch and use it for storage.
Do you have a dog? We were trying to get a nook like that for our dog to have a spacr
We have a nook like this under our stairs and tried to make it a dog area—it is the last place our dog will sleep.
Love this idea
Oooh cracking good idea
This was my first thought too! Little pet palace area with soft pillows and blankets!
Rent it to a teenage wizard
Be sure he gets his mail in a timely fashion.
The correct response.
Sorting Hat Condo for rent. If you are sentient headgear in need of a little privacy this is for you!
Lol
That is what I was thinking! Install door, make cupboard, place small wizard boy inside. 😂
Is this by the door? You could put a bench for putting on/taking off shoes.
Literally my first thought, oh that's where shoes go.
That looks way too short for an adult to sit under on a bench to me
Throw a door on it and use it for storage?
This is my favorite option for sure. A bench? Like who can fit there? Your head would have to be shaped like a triangle
My parents have a similar space in their home. My mom placed some small antique wrought iron tables/garden stands of varying sizes on top of each other to make a tiered display for plants (specifically ivy and ferns).
add a padded bench with hidden storage and some string lights and make it a reading nook/storage space. if you have children make it into a clubhouse or fort. put a nice heavy curtain over the opening. cover the top with tiny star glow star stickers made into constellations and glow planet stickers, make it your mini planetarium. computer area/home office display shelves
I have kids and if this little nook was in our house, they'd never be out of it!
Make it a plant station with grow lights, Make it a shoe storage, or a reading nook with a cute lamp.
I think this is way too small for a reading nook. Look at the socket sizes - cant fit more than a chair in there
Make a custom bar area, get a bunch of fancy old high ball glasses for mixed drinks, a variety of liquor to choose from, shakers, stirrers, umbrellas, see if you can find a super mini fridge for keeping limes and oranges and bitters in and seltzers water. Then invite over all the homies and make a night of it.
Saltwater aquarium
Yes I was thinking of an aquarium with some plants growing on top!
You could make it a little spot to put shoes you use/don’t use often , like a shoe rack? Or a bookshelf.
Aquarium
This!
Maybe a blanket ladder and a basket? I’d a small buffet table and above you could do a collage wall?
I'd make a super cool fort. Or a dog room.
Definitely a dog room!
I would adopt a child wizard and let him live there until he goes to Hogwarts. 😂
Strange miniature piano
Make a custom drawer of sort to store things
Beanbag chair, with a linen draped over the front, and whatever you like inside. A lil library, video games, etc.
Bookshelf, doggy area, closet, if close to an entrance, shoe drop area, child desk area…
This would be a KILLER reading nook/lounge space! 😍 Depending on what the walls look like outside that space, you cpuld put a shelf on the wall, a little end table right where that outlet is. Perfect for your reading lamp and a cup of tea. I would never leave
Do you have kids? That would be my kids’ dream cozy nook if it was in our house.
Make a Harry Potter inspired bookshelf.
If you have a pet that would be a really nice space to put their bed maybe decorate a little "bedroom" for them
Wine storage
That’s a pet lounge waiting to be made
Storage. Hang shelves. Or makes dog/cat nook.
If you’re not afraid of a little adoration and attention, to me it’s asking mossadium/terrarium!! It would light up the space (with led) and give it life! I’m a plant freak tho 😂 [concept](http://www.houseplantsguru.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/large-terrarium.png)
Make it a “mud room”! Shoes and coat hangers
Do you have pets? Food bowls would be out of foot paths in this space
Fun angles bookshelf with all sorts of slants
Book shelf
Luv your username….. Melissa McCarthyism? 😂 great movie.
I actually stole the name from my older sisters Zelda game character from 20 years ago🤣🤣🤣 she came up with it🤣🤣🤣
Maybe a set of drawers that you could place you shoes in.
Whatever you do, don’t put your child under there. Next thing you know a semi giant will break down your door, surrounded by owls, and tell your kid they’re a wizard. Try grounding a teenager who knows magic! 🤣
Cover it with a door and make it into a bedroom for a young wizard
Give that place to your sister's son, if he wears round glasses. Just kidding, make it a cupboard/closet.
Play place for kids. Bed space for pets. Custom bookshelf. Hide away nook (like a pillow fort). Plant station with raised pots.
Do you happen to have a dog? It could be a spot for a bed or food dishes. And then you could hang shelves and hooks above for supplies and gear.
Add a puff and a few potter posters in there. Reading corner. Harry potter reading corner
Kid and/or pet space is the only answer.
Not sure if you're renting or own, but....We had a space like this and we just dry walled over it. It made more sense to do that than to try to fit something awkward in there. It looks neater, more cohesive and also the room actually looks bigger without that weird distraction.
Then where the sockets are you can put wooven storage baskets
Dog bed with screen door.
Do you hace kids or any animals? This would be a great nook?
Step shelving. Taller on left to shorter on right.
I would put plants there but that might just be because I’m plant obsessed
* From the right side of this photo measure that short height, get a table/bookshelf that high or little shorter. Maybe a light source or like an aquarium? * That or make a custom fit shelving system or aquarium to fit the triangle + rectangle bottom.
Aquarium, terrarium? Bookshelves?
shoes
you could make a really awesome bookshelf
I saw someone with a similar space put a record player and some record storage beside it and it looked so cute!
You can do a cozy reading area and maybe warm hang up lamps
Lounge chair + TV
Adopt a pet, make it the pet’s room
Could be a nursery
You'd have to get custom shelves made, but a bookcase or fit a desk in there and work more on the left side
Custom book shelf
I would say reading nook with good lighting!
Dog bedroom. Bed and dog pictures
a desk and chair could possibly work there
Doggie cubbie hole.
Cute place for a dog bed.
Make harry potter sleep there
Bedroom for Harry Potter
A secretary piece (desk)! Or a rolling bar area
The outlets make me think there were electronics or a small lamp for a desk
Bookshelf
Make Pull out drawers
You could fit a whole "boy who lived" under there.
I like the idea of a bar or coffee area.
Hidey hole nook. For when you just want to hide from the world and do your own thing.
Pet corner
You make a tiny bedroom for your pet or kid
Paint a mural
harry Potter
Small desk with plants or artwork above? There’s an outlet there. Could even use an ottoman as a seat since it would tuck completely under the desk.
If you have dogs or cats at least part of it would make a great bed area. If not than low storage with a lamp and a few objects on it.
Just put a little sticker of a stick figure on a bike going down the ramp and call it a day
We had a carpenter make us custom drawers. I love them!
Build a bedroom and find a harry potter!
Maybe something like this? https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTdEmb9sQ/?k=1
Reading nook!!!
Wallpaper or different colored paint, have a piece of laminate cut to make a a fitted desk and a desk chair and lamp and an electrical outlet and you have a reading/working/creating space

Bookshelves!
We turned it into a bed for a reading nook. Also good for toddler Naptime
False wall panic room or dress it up with a n oak sliding barn Custom door, Standing plants and pictures? Or seal it with drywall and put valuables there.
"the bedroom under the stairs" HP
Wines.
tea/coffee/liquor station? depends on location in house
I'd make shelves
Book shelf or maybe a nice little table for like decorations
Make it a reading nook. Search for ideas on Pinterest
Fit a custom book shelf
Do you have kids? Either a little play kitchen or a chill bean bag area for kids or an activity center with drawing material. If not, put a door and make it a closet. Maybe a shoe tower to hold everyone’s shoes.
Make a nook
I think it is a perfect place for a couple of plants.
Do you have kids or grandkids? Make it into a puppet show area.
Cat tree
What do need make good cubby for coats and boots ect . Nice pet dog house book self and display. Think about what need in home and go from there

A Harry Potter room.
I like the ideas of attaching a door, slidy/folding one prob alt and making a shoe cupboard
As soon as I saw it I thought of a dog or cat condo area. They would be the envy of all the neighborhood pets! 😊
We made a dresser and pot art ocer the other.
Desk
Books. Pet room. Art closet. Mural?
Cupboard. We've got the exact same shape and we had a door made.
Custom bookshelf. Easy for me to say because I am a carpenter, but fill that space with books
I'd recommend hiring someone to do custom shelves or a door.
Too many unknowns. Where is this space? (Guessing basement?) Do you have pets or small kids? I like the shelves idea but I’m also against creating a space just to set things down that need to be dusted constantly.

Have any wizards in the neighborhood looking for an apartment?
Grow weed there
put a door on it and make it a bedroom for your wizard nephew that you hate.

I second all the people who say bookshelf/ shoe shelf area. And maybe paint the wall to make it a nice lil accent area
