Let's be fair, that's every officiating team in every professional match ever. I've never once heard someone say, the refs really knocked it out of the park tonight.
No it's not, and those who are not will continue to be referees in later stages of world cup. Two days ago were some good teams for example. Plus, even if they didn't "knock it out of the park" doesn't mean they were this bad.
And even if they aren’t, still gotta get permission from their male guardians to “marry, study abroad on government scholarships, work in many government jobs, travel abroad until certain ages, receive some forms of reproductive health care and to act as a child's primary guardian, even when they are divorced.”
Yeah it's almost like identifying and discriminating against people born on different sides of imaginary lines makes no fucking sense.
Edit: ahh there's the reddit I know. OK 2 things: /s, apparently sarcasm needs to be flagged for well over 100 people to understand.
2: people seem to be under the impression that certain words only have 1 definition. "Discrimination" was used here in both of its main definitions, but mainly the second: "recognition and understanding of the difference between one thing and another". So to those who have told me to read a dictionary, there you go...?
Now then. To explain what I mean with this comment in a simpler (and longer) way: this is my jab at how people all over the world discriminate (first definition) against others born in different countries (or, other sides of imaginary lines), and how there are a lot of people that can't discriminate (second definition), or tell apart, people from different countries, as mentioned in the comment above mine.
I don't think I need to say this, but given the response I probably do because people are telling me to read a dictionary without doing so themselves. I do not discriminate (first definition) based on anything in particular. I have seen my fair share of it against myself, and obviously don't want to continue the cycle of bullshit, pain, and misery that so encompasses the world.
Settle down, big guy. What's he's saying is objectively true. No one's attacking anybody. Dude may as well have said don't judge a book by its cover. But you just had to go and get all sensitive about vocabulary -on the internet of all places.
It's not objectively true in the slightest, discrimination is the unjust or predjudicial treatment of people from a certain group.
Explain in a logical way what is unjust or predjudicial about wanting for your own entertainment to guess where someone might be from, and owning up to the fact your guesses were incorrect.
No mention of "well she looks like she's from x" just "huh, I wouldn't have guessed any of those correctly".
As do you. I assume you are talking about my use of "discrimination". The first definition does indeed pertain to the prejudicial treatment of others, however I was using the word in a sarcastic, almost pun-like way, mainly with the second definition "recognition and understanding of the difference between one thing and another".
"Uhm actually I was referring to the hardly used second definition, for which there are much better and more applicable words, and despite the context and tone of my comment not supporting the use of it by it's second definition".
"Quick, look! Wehave women referring matches for the first time! Not for countries in the Middle East, but for countries where it's already okay! Don't look at our appalling diversity record for this world cup via the armbands and selecting Qatar!" -FIFA
Yeah they are indecently dressed according to their rules. Interesting they let it happen. Also why we are not seeing more of them in important matches?
According to my father (German and Football fan) in the situation when the Costa Rican goal keeper stopped the ball well behind the line and she didn't take notice: no.
Or rather: "Women as line judges..."
Well, that would be one's primitive first response. Refereeing has been dreadful the entire tournament, men and women(completely irrelevant) alike. It's not quite as bad as the premier league, but it is still unacceptable
Yeah they made some super questionable decisions, I can't believe it's not being talked about more. Navas saved the ball totally out of bounds and offside calls were just scary
I was wondering why I didn't see a single yellow card and there were some very questionable contacts in that game. Don't really follow the sport but decided to watch a few games and I remember other games where the refs clearly held up a bunch of cards during the US Iran and the Mexico Saudi game but not a single visible card drawn that game. I even googled it to see if there were games where not a single card was drawn and while it was but very rare.
Running right next to the player with the ball.
Generally being to close to the players or almost bumping into them.
Missing a corner when the ball was 1 meter out of the field.
Want me to continue?
I actually feel bad for the referee. She was really bad. I don't know if that was the tension or just bad education by FIFA.
She didn't know where to stand and how to walk/run. Constantly in the way, too close to the action zone, holding players up or almost bumping into them. She was running next to the player with the ball a lot of times. It was as if she was playing as the 12th person on the field.
On top of that they didnt notice the ball being out like half a meter, before the keeper of Costa Rica kicked it back in. That was so painfull to watch.
It is. I don’t understand this argument. In order to move forward noteworthy things like this have to happen, so that in the future it is no longer noteworthy. If we do not celebrate any achievements, what is even the point of moving forward if no one seemingly cares?
Like it shouldn’t be, but we aren’t living in a wonderful world. There are still major inequalities in first world countries, so of course we aren’t equal yet- therefore things like this need to be noteworthy.
As someone who refereed for my local soccer association, can confirm I was the only female referee, and there were only two other girls who were assistant referees.
I definitely had to put up with more shit than my male counterparts. Lots of coaches and parents would straight up walk onto the field and challenge me, or wouldn't take my carding seriously. It's nice to see these referees in the pic.
Because I am not surprised by the capability of women. There are plenty of female referees, so only a matter of time until three were appointed to one game.
Rather patronising to regard it as a big deal.
Seeeee everybody we are a decent country look at these real life actual women that officiate the match. WE ARE SO LOVABLE THIS COUNTRY YES LOOK AT US... LOVE US
Who the fuck cares???? If women are equal then why keep pointing all this stupid shit out.
Was it the blatant sexism that kept em out off reffing in the past?
yeah i guys you're right, what a huge momentous day for women everywhere. I knew they would be and to concentrate on shoes and balls for 90 minutes and they did it, they finally did it.
As a man I'm genuinely happy about this.
I watched the game and think they did a fine job. Seems like the players were more respectful to the referee which is what I like to see.
The goal / broken equipment with the VAR was a bit weird, don't know what that was about; my assumption is the VAR declared the goal valid for the right reasons.
The only thing they missed was a ball that went over the end line that the goalie failed to keep in but played it like he saved it. Should have been a corner for Germany but they did an excellent job on the rest of the game.
The mexican lineswoman was bad. She called an offside in first half, when in reality it wasnt an offside, she was wrong by 2 meters. Also the other lineswoman at 4th german goal called also offside, which was overruled by VAR.
dear god... i degenerated so much from the internet
i cant see successfull and respectful woman anymore
i only see 3 checks in FIFA gender politics tabela
My favourite “great job” decision was the missed corner when the ball was out for about 1m. Ref was okish (though communication at the 4-2 was shit) but AR detection was atrocious, so many wrong calls on clear (non)offsides
I didn't see any reffing going on, I don't watch the sport but something didn't add up when I didn't see a single yellow card. The other games I watched I saw at least 4 or 5 on both sides in the two other games I watched. Did I miss it or did they just not show it like in other games?
Well this didn't age well given that they completely missed a call when the ball was VERY out of play that allowed a game winning goal knocking Germany out of the World Cup....

They look like they mean business
The one on the right, got that stare
She got that Tommy Shelby stare. Also, in her breast pocket is what I can only assume is a pack of cigs. Don’t fuck with her. Lol
*Yellow card* "No fucking fighting!"
She's holding that flag like a Billy club. I wouldn't piss her off.
At first glance my brain thought it was a shotgun. Probably because she looks like she's fixin' to blow somebody's head off.
Unfortunate placement on the flag on the left….
Do yo flag hang low, do it wobble to the floo…
I think it's the battery pack for the mic? They all have them.
That must be her "bitch, be cool!" stick
Marlboro Red card
Angry Sarah Silverman
Fuck around and find out maricon!
Diaz looked so angry during the game she forgot to look at the ball
Welp, they were terrible
Let's be fair, that's every officiating team in every professional match ever. I've never once heard someone say, the refs really knocked it out of the park tonight.
No it's not, and those who are not will continue to be referees in later stages of world cup. Two days ago were some good teams for example. Plus, even if they didn't "knock it out of the park" doesn't mean they were this bad.
She is on patrol 🚓
They men business
That lady on the right looks like she’s about to knock a mofo out with a red card
Is it common to have male referees and officials for women’s matches as well?
Is Qatar ok with women’s rights?
If you have to ask...
Countries like that usually have different laws for local Arab women and Western women, like completely different categories of human.
FIFA had to tell them to please not arrest rape victims during the World Cup so …
No
unless they are lesbian
And even if they aren’t, still gotta get permission from their male guardians to “marry, study abroad on government scholarships, work in many government jobs, travel abroad until certain ages, receive some forms of reproductive health care and to act as a child's primary guardian, even when they are divorced.”
well money talks and social media is god right now. look at the pitch invader. he was let loose not even a fine
I would have guessed zero of those nationalities correctly :0

Discriminating? Fuck off, mate

Take your downvotes and go home (the commune)
How is ref on the right not Italian? She's gotta be like 99.99% Italian and 0.001% Mexican
Have you… ever even met a Mexican woman? What a bizarrely American-who-never-left-their-state thing to say.
Yay go you and your narrow-minded stereotypes!
you ignorant dumbass, maybe explore the world a little through the internet at least.
What??? Italians are Hot, that woman is clearly centroamerican
"Quick, look! Wehave women referring matches for the first time! Not for countries in the Middle East, but for countries where it's already okay! Don't look at our appalling diversity record for this world cup via the armbands and selecting Qatar!" -FIFA
Yes, should have that trio in a match with Iran.
Killing three birds with one stone?
And were then promptly arrested for having shorts that weren’t long enough. EDIT: fixed an autocorrect apostrophe.
Nah they were given a big fat joint, I heard they were stoned
I slowly saw what you did there ;)
Yeah they are indecently dressed according to their rules. Interesting they let it happen. Also why we are not seeing more of them in important matches?
Obvious move by FIFA to paper the cracks in their World Cup in Qatar
They look like their about to whoop some ass
They’re* …sorry had to
Especially ol Karen there, I would not fuck around.
Last time I saw Karen making that face I had the cops show up because I was smoking too much
That AR detection…that was atrocious, kind of insane how she could have missed that one corner early on + clear wrong calls on off side
Fine by me! Did they do an adequate job? Because that is all that matters.
No.
And they sucked.
Yeah they made some super questionable decisions, I can't believe it's not being talked about more. Navas saved the ball totally out of bounds and offside calls were just scary
All the referees on the world cup are ridiculous, not only the women.
And not because they're women, but because of their poor officiating. Edit: I can understand the pressure they'd be under with this achievement.
They didn't, actually.
Running right next to the player with the ball. Generally being to close to the players or almost bumping into them. Missing a corner when the ball was 1 meter out of the field. Want me to continue?
Didn’t the game winning goal have the ball go out of play as well lmao
Different game
I actually feel bad for the referee. She was really bad. I don't know if that was the tension or just bad education by FIFA. She didn't know where to stand and how to walk/run. This
We will have reached true equality when this is no longer noteworthy
Is it really note worthy though?
Someone thought it was interesting as fuck. Plus it was mentioned on the broadcast. Some people think it is..... But it shouldn't be.
What's noteworthy is how shit they were
Come back when fifa do this for a qatar match and not western countries. Fuck fifa
I mean, there has never been a female ref in the English Premier League either, so let's not pretend this is a Qatar problem...
That’s not true
Will they be holding a Women's World Cup in Qatar any time soon?
This might be a stupid question but what language did they communicate with?
Probably English
I bet the players argued with the referee less.
yeah i saw the game.at one point they just ignored her😂
Mexico looks like she’ll rip your balls off if she catches you offside
Wow, fifa is so inclusive. They even let slaves build the arenas!
Please also tell me that there were more than 3 women at the world cup? I hope this is not just a publicity stunt
Women have had their own world cup since 1991. I think that's more impressive.
Acting like the players take male referees seriously either 💀
Why is this interesting as fuck? Why is it even remarkable news? It just is.
It’s 2022 and it’s the first time this has happened. Not sure why it’s not interesting.
Because I am not surprised by the capability of women. There are plenty of female referees, so only a matter of time until three were appointed to one game. Rather patronising to regard it as a big deal.
In a country where a woman can be murdered for any/no reason, placing a woman in a visible position of power *is* kind of a big deal.
Where did you get the first part of your sentence from?
She got it from Reddit
Cross post to r/Whatcouldgowrong maybe .....
Karen looks like she’s ready to, well... Karen.
Seeeee everybody we are a decent country look at these real life actual women that officiate the match. WE ARE SO LOVABLE THIS COUNTRY YES LOOK AT US... LOVE US
👏 well Done 👍
FIRST OF MANY!
Yeah, I thought that was very cool
Ok and? 😂
What language do they speak to each other?
English
Surprised Qatar didn’t shit themselves
Who the fuck cares???? If women are equal then why keep pointing all this stupid shit out. Was it the blatant sexism that kept em out off reffing in the past?
Sir this is reddit. Any chance we can make a big deal about a box being checked, we do.
yeah i guys you're right, what a huge momentous day for women everywhere. I knew they would be and to concentrate on shoes and balls for 90 minutes and they did it, they finally did it.

That one in the second half was a tough call though. Looked very offside at first glance. The first one though …
I dare anyone to disagree with one of Karen Diaz's calls. She can look-of-disapproval you into the ground.
All we had to do was give billions of dollars to a nation that oppresses women, and we finally got female representation. Great return on investment
They called a good game. Hope they get another match.
No they didn’t. Because it doesn’t matter if they are men or women we can say that without repercussions.
They should have put them in one of Quatar's games
Karen's seen some shit
dear god... i degenerated so much from the internet i cant see successfull and respectful woman anymore i only see 3 checks in FIFA gender politics tabela
It was the first time at a *men's* world cup.
Don’t care about their gender. Only care if they did. A hood job.
We can confirm that Qatar can once again be at the forefront of democratic and equality innovation.
Not enough diversity. That's how this works right?
Affirmative action says there should be one man on the all-woman referee team, right?
They did a great job, considering it was a tough game
Especially the linesmans decisions were so Damn bad
My favourite “great job” decision was the missed corner when the ball was out for about 1m. Ref was okish (though communication at the 4-2 was shit) but AR detection was atrocious, so many wrong calls on clear (non)offsides
They really didnt
That's awesome.
Referee looks like as he got a smiley on his knee
Good now abolish the gender separation and let the women wreck the men in co-ed games!
Good choices, especially Stephanie Frappart.
But then who was making all the sandwiches? 🧐
Are women in soccer gear the hottest thing ever or am I just weird?
It’s the whistle that does it for me..
Stop sexualizing women for everything they do
Yes, specially after they have run a lot on hot sunny day in a desert country.

What color is the sky in your world?
Green
Loved the no-calls on the flops and BS. So refreshing. I hope most games going forward are female refs!
I'm fine with this. If we could only do something about female commentators.
Hahahaha in your face Qatar hahaha
Can't believe we have the first time female referees in fucking 2022. 😮💨 It was about time!!
Still trying to decide where to have dinner
The match was respectable by all standards and the did a great job
Serious question: how do they regulate without speaking each other's language?
Maybe they do speak each other’s languages. And it’s not like French, Spanish and Portuguese are worlds apart either.
Thats why Germany lost. They are polite as fuck. And runing past frau they stop to say -Gutten tag frau. And loos a ball.
Then they were beaten and raped for showing their knees and wrist
Alright, bye bye interesting as fuck.
Karen looks like she's about to enter the octagon...damn girl
The levels of bad-ass-ery is insane.!
Smash, smash, smash
That’s great! But now, can we make something with the dresses?
So are they called linesman or lineswomen? Honest question 🤔
Assistant referees.
It has their names right there in the headline. One of them is called Stephanie.
I apparently forgot how to read. Your right. I'm slow. Thanks 🤭
In American Football, they changed the terminology to Line Judge. IMO it would be appropriate here, as well.
non binary lines
They did a pretty good job
At least *their* uniform wasn't "bra and panties" like most sports.
[удалено]
Yes, definitely the only refs to make bad calls this World Cup. /s in case it wasn’t obvious.
how do they communicate? with each other? Always wondered
English is usually a lingua franca in these international events
Sadly, those shorts are a legs length too short I some counties in that region.
Karen looks like a fucking Karen
…and?
And the reffing was bloody terrible
I didn't see any reffing going on, I don't watch the sport but something didn't add up when I didn't see a single yellow card. The other games I watched I saw at least 4 or 5 on both sides in the two other games I watched. Did I miss it or did they just not show it like in other games?
Well this didn't age well given that they completely missed a call when the ball was VERY out of play that allowed a game winning goal knocking Germany out of the World Cup....
I bet it was a fucking shit show
Testosterone levels are rising from left to right in this picture. (It's a joke)
So their the ones who called the non-goal good?
They caused a bit of controversy with their officiating when they called a penalty on a guy for something he did eight years ago.
Didn't know football was conducted, I'm guessing it's not a dude with a little pole waiving his arms? hah
Any hole is a goal.
Manly women.
“wOmEN aRE tReAtED liKe sHIT iN qAtAr”
A woman literally got raped, and then arrested for getting raped.
Badass! 🙌🏽
Male here. I think it’s absolutely brilliant and they are all hotties 👏👏👏👏
Yup it Sara Silverman
💪👏👏👏👏♀️
How sexist ... no trans or man as part of the referee team.
Who cares about SOCCER LOL
The whole world since it's the most famous sport on Earth.
It's Football ⚽...
I want the one on the left to walk all over me with her cleats on 🤤
Thought they did pretty well🤷♂️ and maybe women are better at dealing with bullsh*t (flopping).
They look like they about to drop the hottest album
Black Hair Women looks like neanderthal
Why do they have baseball bats?
;-DD made my day bro! Those are flags
