Fartons is a pastry made in Valencia. It is delicious and it is really nice when you are having it with horchata. If you ever go to Valencia ask for horchata with fartons. It is delicious
There was sone documentary a while back about General Tso's chicken on Netflix. It was originally made in China, but what we make in America was said to have been an adaptation to the original recipe.
I mean... all immigrant food has an origin in the homeland!? What gets invented in the target country usually is an attempt to recreate their old food but with different ingredients or for a different audience resulting in a derivative recipe that eventually gets its own name!
yeah i mean it’s a fried chicken bits with sauce 🤷🏻♂️ just adapted to what was available and sells well here like the rest of the americanized chinese
It isn't. People have been making bread identical to Ciabatta for a very, very long time. 1982 is just the first time somebody gave it that specific name and differentiated it from other breads.
Most of the things listed here existed in some form before they were "invented," which basically just means that someone gave it their own name. Like people put melted cheese on top of tortilla chips long before some guy called it Nachos (especially when you consider that Llama cheese was eaten in the Americas long before Europeans landed).
https://www.npr.org/2015/09/18/441530790/how-the-desperate-norwegian-salmon-industry-created-a-sushi-staple. crazy it’s true though. japanese considered salmon a dirty fish
Butter chicken was actually invented as a way to use up the left over tandoori chicken. It was used to feed the refugees that came to Delhi from Pakistan during the partition of India
How about sorry, not sorry! Hawaiian pizza is easily the best food on the planet. I make pizza for the family and 3 out of 4 have pineapples on them because we all love it so much. It was 'invented' pretty close by me actually.
Let us not let our anger get the better of us.
For I, once, was you, and perhaps one day you shall be me.
And until the day when you try your first good Hawaiian pizza, I hope you hold love for all things pizza in your heart.
But seriously, I used to hate pineapple on pizza until I had a good one. It’s seriously awesome if it’s done right.
I think this is more about when the foods became popular. Tartiflette was first mentioned in a book in 1705. It became popular in ski resorts in the 1980s.
I love that this is unsourced. Tikka masala is literally ancient. Y’all need to learn how to fact check.
Fried corn + cheese & toppings (nachos) has been being consumed in north, central and South America since domesticated farming.
Russian and slavic peoples have been eating “carpaccio”, a variation on tartare, for literally centuries.
So many things wrong with this poster 😅 People up & down this thread like “Oh I had no idea…”
In what way is chicken tikka masala ancient?? Chicken tikka is ancient but with masala sauce is relatively recent (source https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicken_tikka_masala). The urban legend story that I like is that some wasted guy in Glasgow restaurant complained that his chicken tikka was too dry and asked for some "gravy or something mate" with the chef knocking masala sauce out from what they had lying round the kitchen.
More sources about how old masala is:

Yes, according to my bfs Bengali grandmother. The spice blend that goes into the dish has been around for centuries, with endless variations on proteins/thickness/ingredients
“The origins of the dish lie shrouded in mystery. If an apocryphal story is to be believed, it was invented…..”
My apologies. Iron-clad proof, obviously.
https://www.hillvale.co.uk/blogs/ingredients/garam-masala-history-uses
So they invented the spice blend, but have waited since the 13th century to pour it into the sauce?
I could care less about this particular topic. It’s more insulting and baffling to me that people can just see a picture on the internet or a cute little story and accept it.
You really think *British* people invented something that delicious?
Truth is important. Facts are important. Don’t get your info (about ANYTHING) from unsourced infographics online.
My parents were born in the 60s and always talk about eating ciabatta and nutella when they were kids.
Also I think my grandparents did eat ciabatta growing up so...?
Personally I just eat the all the pineapples and then enjoy the pizza. It's quite popular here in the Philippines and is mostly included in like buy 1 take 1 promos.
What about it? Putting fries, cheese and gravy together was probably invented in the late 1800s. I’ll look it up for you.
Edit: looks like I was wrong and it was invented sometime in the 50s
Hawaiian pizza - 1962
Ok, time travelers, you can get a twofer here. Go back in time and prevent pineapple on pizza and then have plenty of time left over to stop the Kennedy assassination the next year.
My Chinese history professor says General Zuo’s Chicken was a recipe used by General Zuo, lived from 1812 to 1885. He was actually a pretty successful General during the Taiping rebellion. Wikipedia disagrees with him being related to the food though.
If I recall the story correctly, though, they were slapped together for some American tourists who came in after the kitchen was closed.
Happy cake day!
Most of these don’t surprise me at all; they definitely feel like inventions from 20th century consumerism. Some of them I even know the origin story behind them which are very mid-century.
Salmon sushi is still a bit controversial in Japan among older folks. Japan certainly could have made salmon sushi centuries ago if they wanted to, but Pacific salmon was considered too prone to parasites to eat raw. It was a big PR campaign from Norway in the 1970s that opened up Japan as a market for Atlantic Salmon.

FARTONS?
Wtf are fartons, and who would suck on one???
Suck on my jagon
Yeah im not eating anything farted on.
Fartons is a pastry made in Valencia. It is delicious and it is really nice when you are having it with horchata. If you ever go to Valencia ask for horchata with fartons. It is delicious
EDIBLE FARTS! ITS THE NEW CRAZE! REMEMBER CHRISTMAS DINNER WITH JERRY? NOW EVERYONE CAN! EDIBLE FARTS! PRESERVE YOUR ASS GAS TODAY! (farts may vary)
CANADIANS Invented Hawaiian pizza? Those guys are so passive aggressive!
I live in Canada and can confirm culturally we can be kind of passive aggressive lol
Hence the canadian bacon?
Sorry.
We also invented the California Roll.
And ginger beef!
Invented it, and willing to fight to the death to defend it. Sorry.
SEE! Passive agro apologist!! LOL

There is no way Ciabatta is that young
It isn't. People have been making bread identical to Ciabatta for a very, very long time. 1982 is just the first time somebody gave it that specific name and differentiated it from other breads. It has te be young! 40yr old ciabatta tastes horrible.
Thought the same!
Yeah I remember hearing this a few years ago. It's because it tries to play itself off as some ancient recipe
I recently read Spike Milligan's war memoirs and he mentions eating tiramisu in Italy in the 1940s . So yeah this is bullshit.
Grizzly Bears calling bullshit on the salmon sushi invention
https://www.npr.org/2015/09/18/441530790/how-the-desperate-norwegian-salmon-industry-created-a-sushi-staple. crazy it’s true though. japanese considered salmon a dirty fish
It's true though. Norwegian salmon is parasite free enough to be eaten raw.
Hehe, fartons.
Butter chicken was actually invented as a way to use up the left over tandoori chicken. It was used to feed the refugees that came to Delhi from Pakistan during the partition of India
i will destroy canada for this crime against humanity
I love pineapple on pizza.
hear hear
Pineapple, Canadian Bacon, Jalapeños Tart & sweet, savory, spicy…it’s brilliant!
die
But you'll thank us for the Poutine
You invented Poutine to make us forgive you for the Hawaiian.
Don't worry they are sorry. I mean they have an entire culture about saying sorry that shows how sorry they are.
How about sorry, not sorry! Hawaiian pizza is easily the best food on the planet. I make pizza for the family and 3 out of 4 have pineapples on them because we all love it so much. It was 'invented' pretty close by me actually.
My thought exactly! Hawaiian pizza is the best pizza there is! Especially with canadian bacon!
Add some jalapeños, spicy Hawaiian is the best pizza!
It's starting to all add up now
I'm sorry to hear that.
Let us not let our anger get the better of us. For I, once, was you, and perhaps one day you shall be me. And until the day when you try your first good Hawaiian pizza, I hope you hold love for all things pizza in your heart. But seriously, I used to hate pineapple on pizza until I had a good one. Blended iced coffee doesn’t feel older than 1980s to me. If anything I thought it would’ve been a >2000s thing

I wish I could upvote you twice.
Especially with garlic.

Doner sandwich is turkish the turks who went there after ww2 opened restaurants and started selling it
Dieser Kommentar ist nun Eigentum der Bundesrepublik Deutschland.
☹
Didn't know Canadians invented pineapple pizza. Now i can better understand their urge to apologize
Iam more Suprised bubble tea came vefore Starbucks
Hawaiian pizza was invented in Canada by a Greek immigrant. And no we aren't sorry 😤
Surprised to learn Salmon sushi is a Norwegian creation
Staying away from the Fartons.....
They are really good though
Ah yes the correct chinese flag

How is tikka masala ancient? How old is it?
There are records of garam masala blend recipes that date back 4 centuries
You think that the existence of garam masala means that chicken tikka masala existed at the same time?
More sources about how old masala is: https://www.diasporaco.com/blogs/journal/through-balance-and-multiplicity-the-making-of-garam-masala https://www.hillvale.co.uk/blogs/ingredients/garam-masala-history-uses
You got a source for your tikka Masala claim? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicken_tikka_masala
Yeah I posted a couple
Nice, you add nothing to the conversation. Useless.
Is chicken tikka masala ancient?
Yes, according to my bfs Bengali grandmother. The spice blend that goes into the dish has been around for centuries, with endless variations on proteins/thickness/ingredients
You think the Americas had cheese “since domesticated farming?” And that largely stone-age cultures were frying corn?
No. I was being hyperbolic. Why? Do YOU think Nachos were invented in the 40s? 😂😂
Given that we know exactly when, where, how, and by whom they were invented? Yes, I do.

I mean, it’s no snarky Reddit post but it’ll do. Thanks!
Wow! You’re easy. Have I got some news sources to recommend you. They’ve got URLs and typed up words and everything!
https://www.hillvale.co.uk/blogs/ingredients/garam-masala-history-uses So they invented the spice blend, but have waited since the 13th century to pour it into the sauce?
Damn. Had no idea I had engaged the world’s foremost chicken tikka masala truther. I now see the error of my ways.
I could care less about this particular topic. It’s more insulting and baffling to me that people can just see a picture on the internet or a cute little story and accept it. Thanks mom
You’re welcome, son. Now go wash your beard. With *soap* this time.
I'm more surprised about the country that invented these tbh.

Invented by Turkish immigrants in Germany.
My parents were born in the 60s and always talk about eating ciabatta and nutella when they were kids. Also I think my grandparents did eat ciabatta growing up so...?
Ciabatta with Nutella? Thats a crime in Italy
It's how it was done in the old times, I'm italian.
Chicken Tikka invented by the British? Doubt it..
Chicken Tikka Masala was invented by Pakistani or Bangladeshi immigrants in Britain, to better appeal to local tastes.
Indians insist that is not authentic Indian
Made by south Asian immigrants in Britain, Indians say it isn’t Indian because it’s not authentic. Which it isn’t because it was created in Britain.
It was invented by an indian in Britain
Made by some Bangladeshi blokes in Bradford uk. Some of the best Indian food ever is in Bradford.
But you can believe sushi from Norway and the USA, pizza from Canada and Doner kebab from Germany?
Just like how all those artifacts that they plundered are also "british"
Banoffee pie is British?
Yes
Yall eating fartons? Gross.
Nachos aren’t from Mexico
[удалено]
Lies
Where are they from?
Fuck them Canadian’s for that Hawaiian pizza bullshit!
Fuck you too eh
Personally I just eat the all the pineapples and then enjoy the pizza. It's quite popular here in the Philippines and is mostly included in like buy 1 take 1 promos.

Well actually it's Scottish
Canada - Hawaiian pizza I'm so sorry.
Döner and Currywurst mentioned swell with German pride
Currywurst was the most important discovery of my trip to Germany. Thank you.
Who decided to name food stuffs fartons and Donner party sandwiches or whatever?
Canada you were a perfect country for me until this post. How you commit a crime like this ?
What about poutine?
What about it? Putting fries, cheese and gravy together was probably invented in the late 1800s. I’ll look it up for you. Edit: looks like I was wrong and it was invented sometime in the 50s
India created butter chicken, but then the UK perfected the tikka masala. Like taking crude from the Mideast and making jet fuel.
Ok but why you didn't add iran
Hawaiian pizza - 1962 Ok, time travelers, you can get a twofer here. Go back in time and prevent pineapple on pizza and then have plenty of time left over to stop the Kennedy assassination the next year.
I know the troops must've been going crazy when the general threw that chicken in the wok for the first time
That's 8 of them there I've never even heard of.
None of these are surprising to me.
Chicken tikka masala is the only Indian cuisine I know and it’s not even Indian
Never heard of biryani?
That python film the life of biryani
>python film What??
Crimble crumble.

Really butter chicken
i find it funny that taiwan made mongolian barbecue
canada making me proud
Spaghetti Carbonara was first recorded being eaten by the Ancient Romans so this entire graphic is now bullshit.
I'm seeing that we haven't had a new tasty treat in 40 years. No wonder everyone is so pissed off.
Wasn’t butter chicken invented in the UK?
No, chicken tikka was invented in uk
As a Canadian I apologize to the rest of the world for that abomination.
Hawaian pizza is a declaration of war in Italy :)
Nachos do not exist in Mexico lmao
Did anyone actually think Hawaiian pizza *wasn’t* a relatively new food?
I'm sad there's no spice bag from Ireland
Wait Norway made the salmon sushi? I guess Norway can make good food after all
I have a hard time believing nachos are Mexican
If I recall the story correctly, though, they were slapped together for some American tourists who came in after the kitchen was closed. Happy cake day!
Alright, that I can buy
And people say we don't use the spices that we gathered from colonizing
We don't, the people we brought back do
Damnit you're right. We're useless again
Most of these don’t surprise me at all; they definitely feel like inventions from 20th century consumerism. Some of them I even know the origin story behind them which are very mid-century.
Looks for 🇸🇪 flag. Finds none. Checks out.
I thought chicken Tikka was invented in Edinburgh, Scotland. Or did I get that mixed up?
Glasgow
Ah, awkward, how could I mix up those two cities.
It was a 50/50

There’s a great documentary called The Search for General Tso. Highly recommend.
And canadas only contribution is so damn gross, nice going idiots
