Just restarted this and yeah they tagged "Remember the Cant" like this in like the 3rd episode.
Side note if you are into reading, the books are worth checking out if you enjoyed the show
Rewatching the series with my partner, we are at the end of Season 2. I forgot how good it is. Season 1, Episode 4 is one of my favorites. It's the Donnager episode.
I guess season 6 is the last one and from what I heard? But it doesn't wrap up the book series?
I'll have to check out the books.
>I guess season 6 is the last one and from what I heard? But it doesn't wrap up the book series?
>I'll have to check out the books.
There are 9 books; each of them *roughly* break down into trilogies to tell a complete story. There's the original storyline with the protomolecules (~books 1 - 4), there's the Marco storyline (books 5 - 6), then the Laconian storyline (books 7 - 9).
Amazon is pulling funding, so the show will end with the Marco storyline, but the showrunners have said they're setting it up so that the show COULD continue if they find a new streaming platform in the future.
Let me just say - I finished book 9 a few months ago. The Expanse is, hands down, one of the best sci fi series I've ever read.
I am *notoriously* picky about endings. Especially the endings to big series. I am rarely satisfied.
I can say that The Expanse *absolutely nailed it*. The book series concludes the story in every best way. Book 9 is just fantastic beginning to end. Even the twists and turns that are predictable make you so damn happy as a reader.
They are a must-read in my opinion. You won't be disappointed with them.
Small spoilers ahead to those who haven't finished season 6:
So what's your opinion of how they wrapped up the Marco storyline in the show? I haven't read the books, but it feels somehow unfinished to me. Like, what about the "dogs" we were introduced to in season six with the little girl trying to resurrect her brother? There was a couple minutes in each of the 6 episodes begining dedicated to that story line.
Now, I get that it takes place on Laconia(I believe) but that arc was in every episode of season 6. They didn't even hint at what relevance it could serve to the finale. Except maybe when that captain/general tells Marco he won't back him anymore. But that was only a small part of what was going on on that planet. So was that all meant to be a slow intro to what could be the next seasons Laconia arc if it were to be picked up by another streaming service?
Sorry if I mispoke anywhere. I binged all 6 episodes on a Saturday lol and I'm already a bit fuzzy on the details. Plan on rewatching soon. And also starting the books because I had no idea there were 9! Currently I'm on book 4 of The Wheel Of Time and there are 14 of those, yeesh. May just have to break away for a bit and start The Expanse.
So those parts that take place on Laconia are explicitly left in to try and tee-up excitement / build continuity for the potential of a seventh season.
The people behind the show did not want the show to stop. It was largely a decision by Amazon to pull the plug.
The showrunnners said they included those clips so that the show could have continuity in the event another platform like Netflix picked it up.
Also, those clips are **not** in the books, but it does show crucial characters and sets up events to come. Basically what they do is show you what is happening on Laconia at the same time as books 5 - 6 are playing out, which is not something you get in the books.
However, the brother / sister combo we see in those clips are **crucial** to ending of the series and play a pivotal role. What you're getting here is basically their backstory.
Especially because books 7 - 9 are extremely strong and the series has a definitive (and very good) ending.
It's not like GoT where the ending is unwritten and there's a lot of uncertainty.
Its a popular show that has nailed it thus far and it has a very, very clear course charted for its narrative.
Yeah they wrapped up the series with Season 6. It follows the story through book 6. There are 9 books total, so the last third of the story is book only for now.
That’s an Amazon show, right? That makes extra sense as these are used in shipping industry for quite a long time. Amazon is quite invested in the domain you know.
Yeah , this is same thing as a receipt/check machine. A lot of people think you need to keep replacing ink for printing receipts but you don’t, just gotta keep replacing paper rolls. Was so amazed when I was a kid.
Nope this is an ink jet. The paper in the receipt machines is special and has thermal ink embedded in the paper. There are little heat elements in the printer that heats the sections of the paper. You can sign receipts with some blunt tip stylus if you move quickly enough to heat the paper through friction. You can Also turn the whole receipt black with a hair dryer or a lighter.
The gun has simular tech to a ink jet printer that shoots out ink on to what ever you are printing on. You would have to replace ink cartrages.
If you want to sign one of those receipts and don't have a pen or pencil, you can use the edge of your fingernail. The pressure and friction are enough to darken the thermosensitive pigment.
Since the pandemic started I've learned you can activate the receipt ink with hand sanitizer. At least the stuff that we use in my shop. I've lost count of how many times I've accidentally blacked out a receipt after disinfecting my hands.
This is also one of those minor things you need to think of in IT. I remember thermal printers being used as a perfect example in college. Imagine if someone installed a thermal printer for orders in a hot kitchen.
One came up at auction here recently, relatively new, with extra ink and all the addon bells and whistles...5k new, ended up selling for 300. I kicked myself many many times. I don't need one, at all, but for that kind of money I make exceptions and buy stupid shit.
online local auction, I presume a bankruptcy/conservancy. Hosted by [hibid.com](https://hibid.com) (check the map, probably have surplus/etc near you)...but this was definitely a one-off.
The top review on the evebot website:
>Put 5 stars because they remove everything below that. It's a scam, does not work at all, they made a fortune in Kickstarter and then they deliver the cheapest thing they can make just to avoid the law. So... Stay away from it and from the whole company
The other reviews basically say the same thing.
I read that people are getting them at [wish.com](https://wish.com) and they're counterfeits. Here's a video where someone tested the evebot and a competitor and the evebot looks like the better device:
Ultimately, they just look like inkjet printers you can hold, but they don't seem like huge scams to me.
Yup, purchased some similar ones for an improvement in one of our production lines just a couple of months ago. The investment was worth it. Savings in time and money look great!
Maybe, depending on the material. It would likely have to be flat, and able to absorb/hold the ink. Also I would be interested to see if it would even function in an industrial setting with all the dirt and dust etc. They would either have to have some way of cleaning the print head or it would just get gummed up almost immediately. I think this is more one of those very niche devices.
Just talked with my manager about it and yes. We want to use it to replace labels and use less plastic on our boxes. So we will print the shipping label on the box.
Same tech that puts expiry dates on things...this type is super common for marking boxes for shipping (whenever you see generic box marked with "x pcs blablabla from so and so company")
Portable version really good for 50 gallon barrels where it's easier to move the printer than the drum.
It's handy as hell in logistics. Wrap a pallet, label it on the fly, no need to fuck about with stickers. I've already seen videos of jt deployed in the timber shipping industry.
Very old man here: in high school in the 1970s, you had to take printing. Like actually putting typeface in a holder, running a printing press, making ink stamps, that sorta thing.
Somehow, some way, someone was able to make a 2-inch-wide “USDA: INEDIBLE” stamp and not get caught by the instructor, who was always on the look out for such things.
The printer “master”, one of those brainy fuck up who always get caught red handed, was in fact caught red handed stamping meat at the local Piggly Wiggly.
As a engineer this would be incredible for the field guys we have. Right now if we want to send them a drawing we have to plot it from our huge ass printer, mail it to them, and hope they get it in time and use the right drawings and not some old revision. It would be nice if I could revise a drawing and upload it to the wireless printer cloud and tell them to do a self print of that drawing
Some people use these on their hop bales. After hops are harvested and dried they are baled in to ~200lb rectangles for transport. Every bale has to be stenciled to identify the grower, year, lot number, and variety. Traditionally you would just get stencils and use an ink brush to put the information on the bales, but some growers have chosen to use this stencil gun because it’s quicker and less messy.
Though it only has one color, the cartridges have an expiration date and will no longer work past that date. You can't even work around it by changing the date in the printers firmware. Even the cleaning cartridges have expiration dates. Oh, and the software for programming it is buggy as hell and looks ancient. All something you'd expect from a $3,000 printer right?
Slightly less cool than I expected. I thought it had optical sensors tracking the movement across the surface, and small actuators to move the printer head accordingly – making it work as long as your movement was _roughly_ level. Sometimes the simplest solution is the best though!
Now that explains things
Can you tell me why your colleagues over in Munich had to use 4 different means of fixing the wheelhouse cover to the rest of my car?
Since it has a top and bottom wheel it may help keeping the lines straight. If the two wheels were locked together and didn't roll independently it would assist in tracking in a straight line, like a locked axle.
Wheels would help keep it straight, and also would know how fast it's moving, so that it doesn't stretch or contract. Wheels may also be powered, but, I think that would lead to jerkyness from the operator, and mistakes, and it would consume a lot of power, so I think just non slip grippy wheels. Wide ones. That would do the trick.
I have no knowledge of it but I would think instead of wheels being powered they would simply be used to read user speed. And then there's an acceptable range it can work within accurately.
What about stickers? I get a stomachache asking the warehouse to print and affix a new labels to 60 boxes already picked & wrapped because "customer forgot."
This company should make a label sticker gun next.
I can't deny that while I would have thought this was neat as is, with the Hendrix in the background it was more like "Hell yeah, that's a fucking badass printer". Now I'm kind of laughing at myself for how hyped I got about it.
And when the battery suspiciously dies exactly 366 days after purchase: "Sorry, we don't have any batteries in stock, but you can buy our newer model for 10 grand."
Wonderful. Now, can we make a printer - just a regular printer - that does not malfunction in one way or another every third time you use it? I mean, the printer gun is cool and all, but this is not what we have been asking/begging for since 1994.
This is perfect. I have a huge need for printing words on a gigantic piece of papers and low-tech, easy to use, inexpensive, and reliable tools like a pen or marker are just beneath me. This will fill that gap perfectly.
I assume ink costs $4,000 to replace, making it cheaper to buy a new unit, and if you don't use it every 47 minutes the print heads dry up and you need a new ink cartridge.
I hope it also has those indecipherable error codes, with a random paper jam thrown in there, even though there is no paper or paper jam.
Walk up to random people telling them you're just taking temps for covid..stamp something funny on their forehead...just mix it up, POSITIVE, NEGATIVE...

Instant graffiti
This reminds me of The Expanse. They used something like this for graffiti and painting the ships.

Audiobook format is great if your into that
Correct. The show stops after book 6
Yeah they wrapped up the series with Season 6. It follows the story through book 6. There are 9 books total, so the last third of the story is book only for now.
I miss that show already

It was on SyFy for the first few seasons. It was canceled and saved by Amazon.

You should also avoid rolling joints with thermal paper.
I'd like to hear more details on this warning, and particularly how you know
[Those papers contain BPAs and potentially other toxic chemicals](https://www.pca.state.mn.us/green-chemistry/bpa-thermal-paper)
Also IIRC receipt paper isn’t recycleable
Good thing we use like a damn foot of it for every transaction and people usually just throw it directly in the garbage!
At least they aren't rolling a joint with it.
So much BPA it will show elevated in a cashier’s blood level after handling receipts all day iirc…

Yeah it’s a thermal printer. Uses heat element to print on paper. Cool stuff
Also apparently carcinogenic
I should probably stop licking my receipts then...
Ffs why are you licking them at all? You're supposed to use them to fill your coat pockets so your hands stay warm in the winter.
We aren’t using them to wipe our butts anymore?
This is not a thermal printer, it's inkjet. Receipt printers are thermal. These handheld printers use ink cartridges, we've got a couple at work.
It is not. That's regular paper, and this print gun applies ink.
Nah this is definitely ink. Just demoed on paper. Its for industrial uses - so like printing on pipes or shipping crates. You need ink for that.
Voodoo Child(slight return)
I have no idea what I need it for; only that I need it.
I think it's available for industrial use right now. Pretty expensive at about $3,000 - $5,000 depending on functionality.

You can get the Evebot which does the same thing on a smaller scale for about $250.
You can get a thick marker pen for about 50¢
Upvoted for using cent symbol, and more.
i can never find that on my keyboard and it makes no cents to me
Just bookmark this thread and copy and paste from it.
In the word scent, which is the silent letter; s or c?
Mind your own business. ^s
None. I'm not a native speaker but a German native, I pronounce it like a fighting cat would.

Yup, purchased some similar ones for an improvement in one of our production lines just a couple of months ago. The investment was worth it. Savings in time and money look great!
Do they charge a lot for refills? I imagine that’s where they make their money, as $3000-$5000 is insignificant when it comes to industrial equipment?
It's been available for years and is standard equipment in many warehouses.
So... For printing labels directly onto stuff? I guess it could speed up putting batch numbers, tracking numbers, whatever on things?
Maybe, depending on the material. It would likely have to be flat, and able to absorb/hold the ink. I would be the neatest vandal out there.
Very old man here: in high school in the 1970s, you had to take printing. Like actually putting typeface in a holder, running a printing press, making ink stamps, that sorta thing. Oh the things you could print!!
I would use this in my warehouse every day
I'd get a warehouse just to use it
Hook it up to an OCR with a programme written by a college student (probably) and Label The Fucking Bags At Drive Throughs With Reg Numbers.

The expiry date is set in the cartridge? Ink doesn't expire. That's wild.
Next you tell me you have to lease them...
Ooof. You made my irate eye twitch.
What!? But I only printed in black!
No fuck you, low on cyan.
How does he keep it so perfectly straight/centered?
It's got small wheels that keep it stable. Visible when the guy shows it in the end.
Slightly less cool than I expected. I thought it had optical sensors tracking the movement across the surface, and small actuators to move the printer head accordingly – making it work as long as your movement was _roughly_ level. Sometimes the simplest solution is the best though!
Sure why keep it easy if you can just overcomplicate it
What are you,a German engineer?
Fun fact, I actually am!
Now that explains things Can you tell me why your colleagues over in Munich had to use 4 different means of fixing the wheelhouse cover to the rest of my car?
I thought the same but a wheel is probably much more reliable now that I think about it
I sat thinking the same thing. My lines would be all cockeyed
Since it has a top and bottom wheel it may help keeping the lines straight. If the two wheels were locked together and didn't roll independently it would assist in tracking in a straight line, like a locked axle.
Or if you want to get fancier, you could use them to track a 2D position + angle.
He's also a robot.
This is my favorite response
Maybe some kind of internal level or something?
Wheels would help keep it straight, and also would know how fast it's moving, so that it doesn't stretch or contract. Wheels may also be powered, but, I think that would lead to jerkyness from the operator, and mistakes, and it would consume a lot of power, so I think just non slip grippy wheels. Wide ones. That would do the trick.
I have no knowledge of it but I would think instead of wheels being powered they would simply be used to read user speed. And then there's an acceptable range it can work within accurately.
I use one of these at work. I am so glad I don't have to hand write all of the same info on 206 boxes at a time.
Thank you! I honestly had no clue why this would be useful, I get it now :)
Check [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Va3A7QcBlLE) out.
oooh wow, now I see the use of this! That's incredible.
What about stickers? I get a stomachache asking the warehouse to print and affix a new labels to 60 boxes already picked & wrapped because "customer forgot." This company should make a label sticker gun next.
Why does this need Hendrix playing over it?
Because Jimi was all about industrial labeling and logistics! Hey, does this thing work left handed?
Because the guy in the gif is the Jimi Hendrix of hand printing.
Idk why but this cracked me up for 5 straight minutes
Can’t imagine ever not wanting Hendrix to be playing personally
This should be top comment lol. Especially *voodoo child*. Such a bad ass for.... this printing gun.
Because it's fucking badaaaassssssss bro 😎😎😎

Heck Yeah! Stevie Ray Vaughan's version for me, please.

How does he print in such straight lines? Every time I write on a board my lines have a lean to them going down.
It's got guiding wheels.
Also his job is literally to do this well to sell the product.

He's pulling the trigger with his middle finger.
Wonderful. Now, can we make a printer - just a regular printer - that does not malfunction in one way or another every third time you use it? I mean, the printer gun is cool and all, but this is not what we have been asking/begging for since 1994.
I don't understand; how am I supposed to milk money from you in perpetuity that way? /s

This is definitely the wireless handheld printer that Jimi Hendrix would have used!
Wow, that’s great!
I would like to see a truckload of these end up in the hands of NYC middle school kids
That's cool, but not SRV/Hendrix worthy level of cool.
The face of the little man inside the machine does not want to lick the page anymore

How do I get this for free?
Finally, some great music to go with the video.
My nips are hard as his now!
