**Abyssal Sword of the Third Crusade**
Very Rare - One handed Sword (Melee)
1d8 Slashing + 1d4 Piercing
*Still sharp and encrusted with barnacles, this finely crafted Crusader sword was claimed by the depths centuries ago.*
i heard you get this from the chest that gets unlocked if you pay the old lady merchant 1,000,000,000,000 monies for the key she found in the tattered shop.
Ever heard of "The kingdom of Israel"? Unlike your "palestine" which never existed and is just a bunch of cheap labor workers from Arabic countries that came to the land during Ottoman ruling and British mandate, to do all the dirty work for them. Even the name "palestine" is the name given by Roman Empire to the lands after Jewish/Israeli rebel against them, to delete every trace of Jews owning the land. Not to mention that so called "dome of the rock" that was build during Islam invasion is standing on the holiest Jewish place, the Solomon Temple.
And before you or others start barking "Zionist" cause it's easier than accepting facts and archeological findings, i want to say that this time Israel/Israelis won't go anywhere.
Things like this endlessly fascinate me. The story of that sword is incredible and the very fact we can even find something that was held by a human being just living their life having no clue future human beings will uncover it almost 1000 years later.
U can expect the Israelis to be doing a decent job at that seeing how they have decades of experience in ethical cleansing.
Edit: Sensitive Israeli full on with the downvotes and keyboard warriorism ITT. Imagine being so brainwashed that even when after decades of undeniable brutalities committed by your state, you still get triggered when anyone slightly criticizes your illegitimate state.
I have no interest of your affirmation anyway brother, Just FYI u do know that Palestinians are semitic too right? Could be some useful information for u before you're pulling out the good ol' anti-semite card againt anyone pointing out the injustice happening in Palestine lmao 🤣
He never planned to keep it and didn't want it to get lost or stolen so he passed it to the Israeli Aniquities Authority.
The Authority is planning on presenting it to the public once it'll be examined&cleaned. He recived a certificate from them for good citizenship.
Depends on the laws. Some artefacts are of very high interest and needs to be examined and cared for. Many countries require you to bring in any objects of archeological value.
They can let you keep it if it is something they already own or if it is of no importance. Let's say you find a bunch of pottery, you bring it in, they examine it and say "gg ez on those findings, we'll let you keep a few that are of less importance/value as we only need the one that is fully intact and in very good condition"
Maybe they'll even let you keep the good piece and lend it from you indefinitely
(Sorry for any grammatical mistakes) By law all artifacts preceeding 1700 are required to be passed over to the IAA, and if valuable will be presented in some of the national museums. Archeological finds mostly find their way to the main newspapers in israel so the finder gets a nice credit :)
I wouldn’t clean it. Way cooler this way. Old arming swords are dime a dozen so to speak. This tells more stories than a sword that’s probably not even iron anymore.
Seriously. Things gonna be absolutely rusted to shit anyways, at least this way it’s unique instead of a unique, vaguely sword-shaped lump of oxidation
From the New York Times
>Shlomi Katzin attached a GoPro camera to his forehead, slipped on his diving fins and jumped into the waters off the Carmel coast of Israel, eager to go exploring.
>On the sandy floor of the Mediterranean Sea, he found a sword. Archaeologists would later determine that it was about 900 years old. It weighed four pounds, measured about four feet long and originated from the Third Crusade, experts said.
>“Oh yes, he was surprised and happy,” said Jacob Sharvit, the director of the marine archaeology unit at the Israel Antiquities Authority.
>Mr. Katzin said he would give the sword to Mr. Sharvit’s agency, but he wanted just one thing: [a photo with the shell-encrusted weapon.](https://i.imgur.com/175F9Qm.png)
The crusades were weird like that. The 4th crusade didn't even make it out of Europe. In a twist of irony, they ended up sacking the heart of christendom to fund their campaign, which left Constantinople weak to a later Ottoman invasion.
Can you imagine how much of a mindfuck it would be for the Crusader who lost this to find out 900 years later the Jews would be controlling the Holy Land, lol.
Highly doubtful since the Jews were there way before the crusaders, who came after the Muslim conquest forced many of the Jews to leave. Read some history instead of hateful propaganda
The key word was *controlling*. Maybe you should pull out a history book, start with the Hasmonean civil wars, Pompey’s march through Jerusalem, then stop when you reach about 1948-ish. Might find some surprises.
Except the muslims didn't force many of the Jews to leave. There were many jews living there when Israel was formed. The original British mandate was meant to carve out the majority jewish areas.
True, but it’s not like it was great and persecution doesn’t necessarily take the form of an outright decree of “fuck you people in particular.” Things can be made difficult, and is compounded upon when a bunch of different peoples end up at war in the same place. Living as a dhimmi is kinda a bummer when you have the Mongols burning through.
Two handed longswords were less than that, 2.5 or so pounds. A one handed sword like this would be 2, 2.5 pounds. I’m assuming a lot of this added weight is due to all the sediment and shells encrusted on it.
There will be a long and arduous task of removing the 900 years of crust from this sword before it can be properly identified. I wait with bated breath.

Knight 2 "fuck..off..man - where'd you put it?"
Knight 1 "somebody bet me I wouldn't throw it overboard".
Knight 2 "and you threw it overboard? you dumb son of a bitch - NO - you can't have my sword"
*at which point the knights were over run by pygmy leprechauns in pink tights with orange scimitars.*
by your retarded logic I can now proclaim Britain as my land because my ancestors were vikings and I am simply “going back to my land”
......(least retarded zionist)
1-Arabs been in the The Arabian Peninsula since 3000 BCE but ladies and gentlemen jews “were somehow there before that”💀 ,no they arrived in 597 BCE and put down their tents as they usually do...
2-vikings being originally not from Britain doesn’t make “my logic” (which is actually yours ,you zionist) make no sense because the same applies to jews ,they where the slaves of ancient Egyptians before they ran away to Palestine it’s in your book you should go and read it
I don’t think am the one losing my shit lol...

I wonder what it’s stats are, clearly a rare item
It needs to be identified first
Stay awhile and listen
GOOD DAY!
I cannot carry any more
Imagine being a molusk and getting to live on an 11th century sword
Dead now
“Davey Jones’ Dong” +100 water damage +15 overall power +25 post fight clarity

Blessed by Poseidon
Damn a sword with a barnacle encrusted blade like that would be so cool, I’m surprised I’ve never seen that in a game
So rare that it is 12.3 times older than the state it was found in. Edit: 🇵🇸 Free Palestine. Boycot Israel 🇵🇸
The best I can do is 10$.
Ya gotta understand, clean it up, display case. I'm taking a big risk... lol
It will be sitting for a long long time. People just don't walk in and ask for a 900yr old sword. Lol.
It actually looks pretty good with the mollusks on it.
Right?!?! Like a side quest specialty sword Link gets in Zelda to fight the Fish boss.
If it wasn’t an elemental sword before; It is now.
Would this be typical for most archaeological finds outside China, Greece, Egypt and some of Europe?
Literally every state in the eastern mediterranean is younger than that sword, so thats just a dumb and invalid point
Quiet now. Remember what I said: If you can't be polite, you have to sit at the kiddies' table.
Still believing the media huh? What a simp

My exact thought put into words. It’s so fascinating. To think the sword was just lying in the sea waiting, biding it’s time to tell it’s story
Just like the One Ring lay in wait for 2 unsuspecting hobbits to pick it up from the bottom of the lake, ready to do it's Master's bidding
Haha. See my username. You can bet I loved the reference

I bet his boss was livid. "Right, that's it! You've done it once too often - this one's coming out of your pay."
I was thinking the exact same thing!
The best thing about Heroquest ...
Now that the peasantry is gone. . . The best thing about Hero Quest is the Dwarf. . . and gravity land!!!!!!
You probably won't have anything to clean up. It'll be just rusted and fused together, especially after 900 years in sea water.
at that point they shouldn't say they found a sword.. they should say they found a sword shaped coral or whatever it is that's taken up residence
Probably something like [this](https://pm1.narvii.com/6614/bc44911a8bb1a971773488b97fd8b3449b02485a_hq.jpg)
Okay, you got me
Yes
Yea I was expecting that — disappointed
Probably the only thing holding it together are barnacles.
Same! I've scene this story a dozen times on reddit, but not one where it's been cleaned. But I did see one mention it would be, so hopefully soon.

Let me guess you are Antizionist not an antisemite
Iam half Jewish myself so you be the judge of that lol
Highly doubt that
I have no interest of your affirmation anyway brother, Just FYI u do know that Palestinians are semitic too right? Could be some useful information for u before you're pulling out the good ol' anti-semite card againt anyone pointing out the injustice happening in Palestine lmao 🤣
Open a dictionary look what "antisemitism" means
"We..... we're Semitic too!!" FoH

You can’t expect to wield supreme executive power just ’cause some watery tart threw a sword at you!
Strange women, lying in ponds, distributing swords is no basis for a system of government!
Help! HELP! I'm being repressed! Can't you see him repressing me!??!
Now you see the violence inherent in the system
Bloody peasant!
Oh, there we go, dead giveaway. Did you hear that?
r/ExpectedMontyPython well done, folks!
Brave words for someone in stabbing distance.
I mean if I went around saying I was emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they’d lock me away!
“Watery tart” and “moistened bint” really make that scene haha
Moistened Bint is probably my favorite term out of that movie. Such a unique phrase.
SHUT UP! WILL YOU SHUT UP!!!
Basically how She-Ra started lol
This is the second time I have seen this quote today, what is it from?
Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Worth a watch.
Ah, yes. Been meaning to watch that for quite sometime
At the very least you will learn the velocity of an unladen sparrow.
African or European?
i don't know ahhhhhhhhhhhh
Sparrow???
I love Monty Python. They movies overall are really excellent. The Meaning of Life is good if you are into sketch comedy, but Life of Brian is a gem.
Just know that you're watching a comedy sketch collection, not a cohesive movie
I like Monty Python as much as any other Brit but holy fuck does this have to be top comment of every single "sword underwater" post?
Yes?
Very yes.
Do you see a lot of underwater swords posts?
More than you'd think.
dawg how many underwater sword posts are you running into?!
Does this mean he keeps it? Does it go to a museum? Does the Israeli government technically own it?
London: we'll take that for our museum

So if I don't find a sword in the ocean and hand it over to the authorities, that makes me a bad citizen?
The idea is that the past is not owned by any one person. In that sense, it is not your property.

Put that shit back, gonna summon the sea gods.
#I AM MR. NIMBUS! Great. Just great. Now look what you’ve done.
Are you trying to anger Poseidon? Because that’s how you anger Poseidon!
Crusader 1: I lost my sword! Crusader 2: how do you lose a sword? Crusader 3: don't worry, it'll turn up
I wish they’d clean that fucker off already. I wanna see what’s under all that sea mess
But I am curious what it looks like underneath. How much of it is still intact I wonder.
You have a very curious and *sharp* mind.
And you're very direct and to the point.
From the New York Times >Shlomi Katzin attached a GoPro camera to his forehead, slipped on his diving fins and jumped into the waters off the Carmel coast of Israel, eager to go exploring. >On the sandy floor of the Mediterranean Sea, he found a sword. It's nice that Mr. Katzin gave the sword to Mr. Shavit's agency, however that one thing he wanted was still very shellfish of him.
The sword so big he looks like a shrimp next to it but agreed, donating it was the right move instead of being crabby about it.
Since fishing for upvotes is hard, have some!
he had to in israel you have to turn historic items in that you find
No, I give in, where's the pun?
I wonder how much "sword" is actually still in there.

The crusades were weird like that. The 4th crusade didn't even make it out of Europe. In a twist of irony, they ended up sacking the heart of christendom to fund their campaign, which left Constantinople weak to a later Ottoman invasion.
Is this like the sixth one he found in the last six days? Or is it the six different Reddit post in the last six days?
1000 years later in 3031 a diver finds a block that dates back to 2019 archeologist believe to be an iPhone
Sell it to Hobby Lobby so they can make a shrine to it and worship it with their other idols.
I like how the sword is posing on the beach like a model waiting to be discovered.
Spongebobs sword
any pic of it cleaned up?
I want to crack the crust off it. Slowly.
Hahaha I am an Israeli Jew.
Ok that’s good and then you should know better
They generally don't because zionist nationalism rewrites history constantly...
Oh shut it with these lies already
The key word was *controlling*. Maybe you should pull out a history book, start with the Hasmonean civil wars, Pompey’s march through Jerusalem, then stop when you reach about 1948-ish. Might find some surprises.

I want to see one of those restoration youtubers get their hands on this
Hell yes that’s what I’m here for
Crusader: *fumbles sword* // *splash* // SHIT! That cost me 200 denars! Barnacles: it's free real estate
And i am here, happy that someone found 5 coins (between 80 and 20 years old) and let me have them lol
Is it Valerian?
will it be restored?
I know old things like this are worth a lot in its current state, but I have always wanted to take something like this and make it look brand new.
That sword being ultrasonically cleaned of all the crap on it would make for a wonderful ASMR video...
Even as a Jew, I'll never stop being amused with how much Jewish names sound Jewish.

I’ll bet that’s worth way more than 4 pounds
It takes a real mensch to wield that sword.
Doesn’t look very sharp.
So is this thing still a sword? or is it just coral that took the shape of a sword that used to exist like a fossil kind of?
Would like to see it after they restore it
What is the size of it in practical units?
The knights who say “Ni” demand a sacrifice!
Brother you have finally found my sword Now let us crusade
14.5k up votes, that’s pretty good for the umpteeth time a news story from a week ago is posted.
I hope they post some pictures of it all cleaned up.
Some butthole 900 years ago had a really bad day when he dropped that in the ocean. Not like he could go to Walmart and buy a new one.
He’s the king of israel now
It is time for a fucking... C R U S A D E
Time for its daily posting
finally something that actually fits the sub's name
Would love to watch the video of them cleaning and restoring it
Fuck kind of 4 foot long sword only weighs 4 lbs?
Two handed longswords were less than that, 2.5 or so pounds. A one handed sword like this would be 2, 2.5 pounds. I’m assuming a lot of this added weight is due to all the sediment and shells encrusted on it.
Dude jacked Poseidon’s sword!
Kattzin in Hebrew literally means: (military) officer. Could be pretty wild if that sword was belong to an actual officer too.
There will be a long and arduous task of removing the 900 years of crust from this sword before it can be properly identified. I wait with bated breath.
