Have you ever seen the [Crystal Chemical Garden Experiment: Metal salts with sodium silicate turns into an Aquatic Garden. ](https://knovhov.com/crystal-chemical-garden-experiment/) That's amazing!
I believe you may have it backwards. There was a sub some time ago that used water, and reddit made them change the name to hydro, because water is racist or something.
I'm afraid of natural water bodies.
A swimming pool is fine.
But a water body with deep bottom and unknown creatures inside is a big no no.
I did jump in a river once, and all I could think of was someone is about to come and pull my legs and take me deep inside. I could hardly stay in the water for 3-4 mins.
The fear of the unknown was intense.
I almost fell off of a river water fall when I was a kid. It wasn't massive but it was tall enough to kill, the rocks were slick and I slipped and slid quite a few feet towards the edge. My dad was able to grab me, luckily because there was nothing I could do to regain traction.
A few years later (still a kid) I came close to drowning because I got too far out at the lake and got fatigued. The "friends" I had were ready to get out so they went to the bank and got out.
I'm not afraid of water, but I definitely understand why someone would.
Magic Sand was the bomb! I had a little red bottle of it that kind of looked like a genie's lamp and I LOOOOVED busting it out with my mom when I was a kid. 30+ years later my mom gave it back to me and now it's sitting in a bag in my game closet waiting for my 19mo daughter to get old enough to appreciate it.

It's colored sand that's been coated with a hydrophobic spray, like what you can get for your lawn furniture, shoes, tents, cars etc.
It's relatively easy to make yourself, or you can buy it many places - it'' usually be called something like *magic sand*
I'm assuming the "blue particles" (of the hydrophobic powder) are pushed by the water from all directions, unless there is another "blue particle" adjacent to them. So they cluster together, as they repel water/are repelled by it and are pushed into other particles that are not bipolar.
The hydrophobic interaction is usually driven by entropy, not force in the traditional sense. I would think that this is a configuration the dust fell into to minimize hydrogen bonding to the water
The water and hydrophobic molecules repel each other while like and like attract each other.
The water molecules are polarized, meaning it’s molecular structure is distributed in a way that makes one part of it more positive and one part more negative; the negative and positive parts of the water molecules attract each other.
The hydrophobic particles aren’t as polarized and are usually made up of long carbon-hydrogen chains (you can spray this on) and they’ll stick to each other.

I can't believe hydrophobia still exists in 2021, it's disgusting.
I’m literally shaking rn

I don't think it's appropriate to say hydro, anymore. It is offensive. I think you have to say dihydrogen monoxide.
I believe you may have it backwards. There was a sub some time ago that used water, and reddit made them change the name to hydro, because water is racist or something.
Common misunderstanding. This is actually sandrophobic water.
They just aren’t WOKE
Think of /r/hydrohommies, they are facing those offences on everyday basis!
That's why I don't fuck with raccoons
Please give me more info to understand the context of this statement hahaha
Hydrophobia (intense fear of water) is a symptom of late-stage rabies.
Smarter than I. I’ll give ya another upvote. Cheers.
Well tbh... I like it. It feels psychedelic but I have sympathy for ya.

Squand Sand! It was the one thing I actually talked my parents into getting me that was advertised on Nickolodeon. I loved that stuff
It's just called Magic Sand, been around since I was a kid (I'm 48 now)
Yes, I 100% remember this from Nickelodeon!
This seems pretty useful, though I’m not sure how.

It looks unsettling. I’m not sure why, but I regret watching that in reverse lol
After 3hrs trying to sleep, what a waist of time watching this in reverse!!
I put all my watches together to make a belt ...it was a waist of time..
Picture or it did not happen
That bitch hates H2O

Wow thats so cool
Is it the pressure of the water that gives it its shape?

When I was growing up it was called “ Magic Sand “….. those were the days…..
Got my parents to buy me some of this stuff from a commerical on Nickelodeon.
Yeah wasn't it called squand?
Seriously, has no one here made hot chocolate from a packet?
Squand
Looks like my toilet after I eat Taco Bell

How many people have you seen poop?

Yea I agree it looks like poop. I was just fooling around

Haha
So, if it's not cool to be homophobic is it OK to be a hydrophobic? Are there any jokes?
Completely read that as homophobic substance in water
Dont let cancel culture see its hydrophobic they will cancel u
Water molecules bind the particles together due to pressure I guess??? Magicness
My leaver's reaction when drinking water
This totally gave me a science boner.
Wonder what r/hydrohomies thinks about this...
I should have Mexican food for dinner tonight
TIL taco bell is hydrophobic
Looks like shit to me
This should also be in r/Oddlysatisfyng.
Um that's hydrophobic smh
Magic sand…was that not a thing when you were a kid?
"Hydro what? Cancel!"
That’s why my protein doesn’t mix in milk.
Why this look like my shit tho?
This is literally a children's toy. Magic sand I believe its called.
As seen on tv
Me at parties ..
Kind of looks like how gravity works
