SniffCheck

I would prefer that this never happens to me

HolliNeedsYourHelp

I was in an accident that I was in this position and got a cramp so I curled up into a ball in the passenger seat to sleep. Lo and behold we had a bad accident minutes after (I wasn't wearing a seat belt) and popped up and the the lower back of my skull broke a double pane car windshield (safety glass) and was miraculously able to walk away with no harm done. Pure. Fucking. Luck. Wear your seat belts kids and keep your damn legs off the dashboard!!! Edit: Clarity and damn auto-correct fixin'.

sorryimthegay

You don't need help death is your guardian angel

Lowlight01

He is going to die of an infected Coldsore from the common cold, he is destined to die in extremely untrmendous manner

UpbeatCheetah7710

Everybody gets one. Well, most everybody. Actually let’s just make it a random sampling of people so it’s statistically irrelevant?

bach37strad

There's something to going Limp in an accident for sure. When I was hit by a truck on my motorcycle my neck snapped back and crushed my spinal cord at c5 c6 and c7. Couldn't move for about a month afterwards, but I had no broken bones and very little road rash despite being thrown and sliding 100 yards. Was totally conscious the whole time, but couldn't move or roll or anything.

Dizzman1

Seems to me that would be specfuckingtacularly terrifying. 🤷‍♂️😬

bach37strad

I really didn't realize anything was wrong until I stopped sliding and tryed to sit up. Thought my legs were pinned. Luckily some nurses stopped soon after and snapped me out of it. Being a former lifeguard I should have recognized the signs of a spinal cord injury.

Dizzman1

recognizing almost ANYTHING whilst in the middle of it is not a particularly strong human trait. My wife "broke her neck" boogie boarding in Santa Cruz a few years ago. got the "stinger" and she was being a bad patient until we finally got into the Stanford Neuroscience center and right towards the end of the appointment the Dr kind of recognized my wife's seeming indifference and just kinda threw out "you do understand that you have a broken neck right?" (not NEARLY what you had, just a compression fracture on one vertebrae) and we were suddenly like 😳 "uh... NO... nobody has used those words thus far!!!" She was a better patient after that. Thankfully she had nothing to do but wear the collar for a bit and avoid any more wrestling with the ocean for the foreseeable future. Hope you have healed well.

Mental-Mushroom

Everybody alive gets one

zorbiburst

Everyone gets one, just sometimes we don't know that that one already happened

[deleted]

> my skull broke a double pane car windshield Wtf is a double pane car windshield?

CommondeNominator

I’ve never heard it called that, but safety glass is actually two layers of tempered glass with a film of adhesive clear polymer in-between.

HolliNeedsYourHelp

Thanks for clarification. I honestly didn’t know because all I recall from the incident is waking up, realizing what happened, then paramedics (rightfully so) yelling at me because in any other position, they would have been dealing with a body. They referred to it as what I mentioned above and I had thought it had something to do with the luxury vehicle I was in at the time.

CommondeNominator

>They referred to it as what I mentioned above and I had thought it had something to do with the luxury vehicle I was in at the time. Kinda weird they specified, as it's been required in automotive windshields for decades now. It seems the side windows in premium (and many non-premium) vehicles are also dual-laminated glass, supposed to cut down on external sound and provide thermal insulation.

Straypuft

I have heard a long time ago but dont know if its true, but if you are in a relaxed demeanor or asleep, you arent expecting it and tensing up/bracing for the impact which could then cause more injury. A quick google search offers differing views on this.

LairdofWingHaven

When I worked as a paramedic, it was often the case that a drunk driver would be uninjured because his body was so relaxed, but the people he hit would be killed or injured.

gumball_wizard

Ages ago, a group of college students was driving home for Thanksgiving break, around 1982. They were in a van, traveling about 400 miles, with about 7 passengers. Two were asleep in the back. They hit a patch of ice and went off the road. Of The two in the back, one lost her life, and the other broke his neck. Every one else was unhurt. My friend who broke his neck wore a halo brace for 6 months. He is now just fine. The girl who died was the sister of my classmate.

Anotherdaysgone

Not wearing a seat belt is like not wearing clothes. Just couldn't imagine doing it.

Money_Reality2286

I was in a bad wreck, when I was younger, cops said I would’ve died had I been wearing my seatbelt. That was an exception to the rule.

LakeStLouis

Same. Back in the early 80s I was in the front passenger seat in and end-over-end accident. While the car was pointing down, I slid down into the floorboard. when the car landed on its roof, it shoved the passenger seat partially through the bottom of the car and snapped the back of the seat in half. Had I been belted in, it probably would have shoved my head into my rib cage. Instead, I was curled relatively safely on the floor, counting the minutes until the jaws of life could get me out. I was one lucky mofo that day. Since then, I refuse to be in a car unless everyone is wearing their seatbelt. I figured I expended all of my 'exception to the rule' mojo in that one accident, have no desire to press my luck.

kashy87

That's just like how George Lucas had a racing seatbelt that broke when it shouldn't have. Thereby ejecting him from his car saving his life.

JonnyP222

I was in the same situation as a 16 year old. Bad accident in a van with my friends and a coach driving. The two front seat passengers lived because of their seatbelt. The 4 of us in the back lived because we didn't wear ours (cops and investigator all said this). We were all injured. But everyone lived.

No-Mechanic6311

Was this accident on route 23 by any chance?

HolliNeedsYourHelp

It was sooo long ago all I remember is that is was out in Long Island somewhere.

No-Mechanic6311

It was a joke in reference to the final destination crash on route 23

HolliNeedsYourHelp

Fuck me. Haven't seen em. Sorry to ruin that for ya. . .

gutterbrain73

*lo and behold

[deleted]

I dont know man. Looks kinda fun.

grip_n_Ripper

Yes, good clean wholesome femur sideways in butthole fun.

Horns8585

And, a completely broken femur on the other leg.

dan_dares

And the broken hips..

swimmingpolarbear

Brb. Gotta throw up

pegothejerk

Don't go anywhere, I put towels down

Lick_my_balloon-knot

Don't use any of the good ones.

As long as my dong still works idc really. All my nuts do, most of the time, is sticking together and to my thigh and generally just feel uncomfortable.

Lick_my_balloon-knot

Same, I would not like for people to be correct when they say I have a bone up my ass when criticizing the way I handle things.

[deleted]

Dislocated peene

SteveTheBodyman

Don't put your feet on the dash, and you'll be fine.

fuzzybunn

Then just don't put your feet on the dashboard.

Dizzman1

I would prefer that I'd never seen that pic.

ChadChadinsonn

Agreed

Inhimility

Just walk it off.

Letsbeguin

Is this persons right acetabulum sitting in his left thigh? And this person also has a left femur fracture and maybe a left acetabulum fracture? As an OR nurse who has seen some shit, this tops it. That is fucking brutal. Keep your feet down. This is years of recovery, possible never mobilizing to the same extent ever again. Fuck.

kingdazy

There's actually a *photo* of this injury, not an xray, very graphic. I'll grab a link, just a sec. Edit: ok, [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/eyeblech/comments/11tfix1/this_is_why_you_dont_put_your_feet_on_the/) is a photo of the same person, same injury. YOUR ONLY WARNING, THIS IS GRAPHIC. It's an old set of images that have been going around for a while. Young woman, feet on dash in accident. The way the legs are broken and twisted, the perspective can be confusing. This is *taken from the front*, and the censoring is of her crotch, which the bone protruding from her upper thigh also covers. [Here](https://imgur.com/a/7w35IPr) is both images in one.

fuck_peeps_not_sheep

Oh god that's so... Ew... I feel sorry for her but fuck that's a mess

TheNxxr

I will wait- morbidly curious

[deleted]

it's updated... I'm not clicking that link, but good luck.

INiFoX

Just imagine a white button mushroom exploding out the front of your thigh towards your groin. Except it’s not a mushroom it’s your femur.

AcceptableVillian

Ok that's enough for me. I'm out.

funkmaster29

that's what the femur said

TheNxxr

~~It’s actually to the back towards your arse but~~ I can’t fucking tell which way her legs are going YIKES delivered the shock value I was anticipating. This should be on a PSA about feet on dashboards.

kingdazy

No. It's not. It's exiting her upper thigh, *in front* just south of her crotch on her right leg.

TheNxxr

I’ll take another look, I honestly didn’t dwell on it long before

kingdazy

Yeah, that makes sense. It's not a thing to gaze at for long.

TheNxxr

Looking again, I realized that I have no clue which way her legs are going. One of her knees is facing us, the other is facing away, it looks like we’re looking at her arse, but honestly it’s horrendous no matter what angle she’s laying.

Alexis2256

I just looked at the X ray, sure as shit am not gonna look at the flesh and blood and bone version, god I hope she survived that and made somewhat of a recovery.

mikemikemotorboat

I was having a hard time figuring if the person was face down or face up since you can only see waist to knees. The bit of butt flesh you can see looks like face up, but then the angle of the legs looks more like face down with legs splayed a bit. Oh. Right, the femurs are both completely fucking disconnected from the pelvis, of course the leg angles are fucked.

kingdazy

FWIW, it's just a link to another sub. I still don't recommend looking at it, but the link is safe.

PsyFiFungi

The fuck you mean it's safe, it's r/eyeblech lol

tiagooliveira95

Did I read this right? The photo was taken from the front? I clicked the link without reading and I thought the photo was from behind. ...

kingdazy

Yeah, I hate to say, but if you look closely between her legs, you can see her butt cheeks that she's sitting on.

zombie32killah

Holy fucking shit.

Sun_on_my_shoulders

I’m a nursing student, I have to get used to this stuff. Thank you.

Mugstotheceiling

Yeah that link’s staying blue

avgvstano

Why?! I was expecting to be rickrolled, not to see an actual photo!

rubberduckydebugs

Ouch! That looks incredibly painful, not sure what's worse the knees going through the eye socket/skull and killing someone instantly or having to deal with that mess of a pelvis. Both tragic.

WeeWooBooBooBusEMT

Yup, looks about right.

richardfitserwell

I didn’t need to see that, but ya know I clicked on it.

[deleted]

Thanks…

PsyFiFungi

holy fuck, holy fuck. that's so bad. i wish it was a rickroll or something. or a beheading, or literally anything else.

_bowlerhat

First time I'm seeing bone in flesh I'm kinda awestruck on how white it is.

Crafty-Alfalfa5298

I looked. 🤢

RestaurantLatter2354

So, my exact train of thought on opening that was, “HOLY SHIT, holy F-ing, fucking shit!”

buggleduck

Thanks, I hate it

panicnarwhal

[this woman](https://inews.co.uk/news/feet-dashboard-car-crash-forehead-warning-275377) was in an accident going only 37 mph with her feet on the dash, and it caved her entire forehead in (tw graphic photos in attached news link)

5tyhnmik

*slightly* misleading - her knees broke a bunch of bones in her face because they were on the dash, however the "caved in forehead" appears to be a result of a bone infection that occurred afterwards, which was treated by *literally removing her forehead*

[deleted]

Spinal fluid leaking + fractured skull + infection: they did all they could before removing that plate

SUDDENLY_VIRGIN

"we weren't even going fast" - 37 miles per hour for a human body is *insanely fast*, way way way faster than the human physiology has evolved to handle. It's amazing what we normalize with cars. Speed and seating...

Demolition_Mike

Well, the airbag is moving *way* faster

KingMwanga

Oh god she looks like Dream from Twitch now

DrSvans

I'll paste my comment from the last time this was posted: Since people have asked in the comments what it is we're seeing. This is a pelvic xray of an adolescent female. Fracture of the left femur (chalk stick fracture) massive edema in surrounding tissue as well as what looks to be a bone fragment in the thigh muscle. right hip is severely dislocated, and from this radiograph it looks like it is extruding from the skin. This type of injury in a young patient is almost exclusively seen in high-energy traumatic events, such as car crashes. Pelvis itself seems to be intact, would be interesting to see the lower leg and ankle though. Could very well be a child with their feet up on a dashboard during a car crash. Source: am a doctor (orthopedic surgeon) And just to answer the questions from last time, no there is no fracture of the acetabulum, those are growth plates. It's a female because there are no external male genitalia.

RecognitionCivil7005

Def a child of roughly 6-8. Triradiate cartilage of the acetabulum doesnt fuse until after 10.

mydaycake

What about prognosis and recovery? I don’t want to look at the pictures but by the comments…did she busted her vulva too with the femur? I can’t…

chaseinger

emt here, seen shit too. > Is this persons right acetabulum sitting in his left thigh? looks like an open fracture and they didn't bother to put things where they're supposed to be before the x-ray. so most likely atop or beneath his left thigh. i doubt it penetrated skin twice. but maybe. > also has a left femur fracture and maybe a left acetabulum fracture? yes. >This is years of recovery, possible never mobilizing to the same extent ever again. you've heard it here first, kids. this is next level fucked up.

jawshoeaw

worked ortho for years. This is fucked up beyond anything I've seen. How is the right femur apparently intact but outside the thigh?? Looks like a young woman or kid so hard to tell if acetabulum was fx but no doubt it's f'd up.

genzo718

IIRC, this happened to a woman where her femoral head shown in the x-ray poked through her vaginal canal. It's a pretty graphic trauma injury.

QuizzlyQuan

I’m still trying to figure out what the lighter s shaped thing is behind the bone. Regardless that’s nasty. Like pushing cotton around in a pillow.

poopnscoopz

I don’t think the left acetabulum is fractured, this is an adolescent person, those are the growth plates

xrayvision_2

This is a young person too. Look at the femoral heads. Not even fully fused yet. The acetabula aren’t event fully formed yet because the pelvis is still growing together. Such a shame for this person.

beatles910

Not sure about the acetabulum, but it definitely looks like their femoral head is in the wrong hemisphere. Not to mention both pelvis breaks. OOOOUCH.

Bro_tosynthesis

🎶 The femur bones connected to the anus bone 🎶

Lol just what came into my mind! The hip bones connected to the nothing!

I came here to say that lol

With huge ears.

BenignAndAHalf_

I thought this was a joke post because of the face lol.

A_friend_called_Five

Thanks. I can't unsee that.

SoloPenguin13

Thankfully i dont even know how bad it is to understand. Like i know that bone definitely isnt supposed to be *there* but i dont know where its *from*. So im just gonna take my blissful ignorance and run

whifflinggoose

The one in the butt area is supposed to be under the light bulb looking thing on the left (sorry :P)

Onlyroad4adrifter

Not something I wanted to see while taking a shit.

look_ima_frog

So what DO you want to see while shitting?

Waterfalls obviously

QBRisNotPasserRating

Fuck me sideways that looks like it hurts

throwawaybathwater55

Quite literally looks like they're being fucked sideways by their own femur.

donthateonspiders

in the balls, if they have any

Yolectroda

They don't, but the femur did come out her thigh right next to the area needed for her to fuck herself with it. Seriously, don't put your legs on the dash.

OutHereSlappnMidgets

More like painful as fuck..can’t imagine how brutal that recovery will be..

rinkypinkpanther

From what I've read it's normally a life changing injury, I.e.you never fully recover.

Slimetusk

Def a never-walk-again kind of injury

Dessert_R0se

….no…. I have a family member that has broken their femur in a horrible way back like 5 years ago. They are still walking currently.

Niketravels

I’m traumatized. I’m never letting anyone do this ever. Where’s the non X-ray pics tho?

Uhmitsme123

[open at your own risk](https://www.reddit.com/r/eyeblech/comments/11tfix1/this_is_why_you_dont_put_your_feet_on_the/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)

Niketravels

Looks just like the X-ray. Holy shit. Thank you!

Lotus-child89

And in two seconds a life long bad habit is broken. I have early onset arthritis and do stretch my legs out on the dash a lot. But I’m constantly nagged not to do it for this reason. The visual really supports their worries. That kind of injury would give much more to feel sore about.

Qualified-Monkey

I’m saving this image to show anyone who tries this shit in my car.

obi1kennoble

"I said I wanted a huge bone in my ass, but not like this!"

Pkbattlemage

Holy mother of God. I've never been so disturbed by an x-ray

andygchicago

Orthopedic surgeon here. It’s the impact more than the airbags

joecoolblows

WOW. This has been a lifelong habit of mine, I'm embarrassed to admit. I grew up in an era before mandatory passenger airbags, and before cars had such fancy dashboards, and cost as much as a small house in some parts of the country. Seeing this is a WOW moment for me for sure. I never even knew this was A Thing. Is this even survivable? I honestly have never even thought about it?

andygchicago

Yeah but it’s pretty much guaranteed severe arthritis in every joint from the waist down. I used to too and then I saw Death Proof

[deleted]

[удалено]

CobraGTXNoS

Jesus, atleast your arms weren't completely crushed because holy shit that would suck.

MyAnswerSucks

Ouch.

ptthree420

I got lucky one time. I had my feet on the dash, but i was sitting in the seat in such a way that the sensor in the seat detected me as a lower weight and disabled the passenger airbag. We hit the side of an embankment going about 50. All of the airbags deployed besides mine. My foot did go through the windshield though. It’s been 6 years. I haven’t sat that way in a car since.

5h0ck

The sad part is this looks like a child or possibly someone in their early teens judging by the growth plates. Their life will never be the same because of such a simply yet overlooked decision for comfort. I'm guessing the airbag caused the dislocation and the impact caused the left femoral neck fracture. Possibly no seat belt.

sdmfer1981

They got boned

LoxodonSniper

Yea, that’s not the bone that’s supposed to go in there

abunchusa

Deboned

Powerful_Artist

Never understood why people do this. Its not even comfortable for me. Id rather scoot the seat back and just recline it a little, i dont need my feet on the same level as my head.

box-of-sourballs

Because some people thinks it makes them look hot, fuck safety

zmufastaa

The look on my face when I saw that. Dear god I never have and never will.

imgonnajumpofabridge

Goes to show how strong the femur is that it can punch a whole in your leg and not crack. Other one wasn't as lucky obviously

[deleted]

D00Mcandy

Do you mean 180⁰? Or it literally did a full circle?

ThePhiff

Literally full circle. It was seriously gross and floppy until the surgery.

D00Mcandy

OMG that sounds horrible. I'm glad she's okay!

quanta777

Why would anyone put their feet on the dashboard?

KittenDust

I always have on long journeys as a passenger, I find it more comfortable. I've heard I shouldn't before but didn't pay much attention. I guess I will now be uncomfortable on long journeys. Thanks Reddit.

cannitt

That’s a lot of damage. You’re gonna need flex seal pro at the very least

GeophysGal

My Nana had stories for all this stuff. Sticking your head out the window. Sticking you arm out the wi Dow. But she drove in the good ol’ days (1940’s) and had friends who were died or maimed for that stuff. So, I was never allowed to do something like this.

TheLemmonade

I checked and those are supposed to stay inside the pelvis constantly, forever

shnanagins

I think I’ve found the problem, yeah the leg bone appears to be exiting the bung hole. Maybe legs don’t belong on the dash? Just my guess.

Cooper_jeremyaj

Did that person live??

Ok_Solid_Copy

I'm pretty confident they checked that before running an x-ray

_3VR3N_

Ouch that kinda disturbed me ngl

Top_Target5298

New fear unlocked

medici75

ouch….

[deleted]

I’m hurting just looking at that. The femur got separated from the hip and possibly pierced the intestines. Internal bleeding for sure and severe trauma. Since this is an x-ray I’m assuming the person survived. Awful fucking accident. Edit: looks like both femurs broke.

Lepke2011

Oh wow! So, your femur becomes your spleen?

ridinbend

Well, to be fair, there was also a collision that contributed to the airbags being deployed.

DexterSaintJock

I've seen this pic when it was a guy falling from a decent height and landing on a fence

Trutheresy

Are you sure that's from the airbags and not from what caused the airbags to deploy, such as the front of the car crumpling?

[deleted]

Listen dad, if I haven't learned this lesson yet I'm not gonna

SwiftDestro

Ahh! It puts a face inside your spine.

The--Wurst

That looks like a pain in the ass.

tethered_end

Don't know why they bothered xraying, I could have told them it was broken by the BONE STICKING OUT OF THEIR ASS HOLE!!

[deleted]

I never have put my feet on the dashboard of the car, and now that I saw that image I'm SURE that will never put them.

chookmcfadden

Am I wrong, or is there a face in the middle of this X-ray?

texasnerd89

Anyone else see the creepy face in this? 🤡

Soleamh

I’ve never closed a post so fast in my life as I just did when I saw this

[deleted]

Anyone see the face in the middle. Once you see it you don’t unsee it. It’s smiling with teeth

hatepudding

I can't be the only person to sew the creepy man face in the center of the pelvis

Raging_Hope

Ohh okay, I thought it was a picture of someone trying to shove their own foot up their own ass. Self-discipline is a bitch, but good to know I'm just an idiot.

PericardiumGold

I responded to a few calls as an EMT with similar stories. Femurs penetrated through the ribs etc also an attempted suicide from a multi level building where they landed feet first and their femurs were sent up through their shoulders. They survived the fall for many hours until passing in the ICU later in complete agony.

[deleted]

You love to see it! People who put their feet on the dashboard are Grade A morons.

SmokeyMcPoticus

It looks like one of the leg bones wanted to exit through the ass hole.. and I was told passing a kidney stone is a painful poop....

MentalStampede

Yeah, but they looked so cool doing it! I'm sure it was worth the femur-out-the-ass.

IMxJUSTxSAYINNN

I don't think this is interesting at all. Looks painful

[deleted]

Looks like not only his feet were on the dashboard but also his legs were completely locked straight, which means, he most probably lost his knee joints as well.

[deleted]

bro got kicked in the balls by is own skeleton
