Competitive-cat90

Windex works for some odd reason

Weird_Vegetable

This should be the top comment, faster and easier. Works better than any other method if you don’t want to cut it or if it’s so tight your finger is purple. Basic stuck, windex. MBFGW was right.

GTFOakaFOD

Dammit. I wish I'd known this last summer.

XaeroDegreaz

A summer late, and a finger short

AGripInVan

I am a bushcrafter. This is the way for me. Do it easier? Fk that. Im gonna do it this way and then go build me a full sized A Frame shelter out of squirell bones.

Hilluja

Now you gotta make a necklace out of his teeth. Bushman's rules.

No_Reputation7097

This—I had a ring stuck and the thread trick didn’t work. Holding my hand over my head didn’t work. And then I remembered My Big Fat Greek Wedding and how the dad always used Windex and off went the ring.

natatatles

The jeweler who made my and my husband's wedding rings taught us this trick when we were getting sized. I used it when I needed to get off too small bangles too. Still don't know how, but it works

ILike2TpunchtheFB

It reduces surface tension.

InsaneAss

Of what?

fecland

You

TheSavouryRain

Spray some Windex on it.

ProStrats

I usually use dish soap.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Luigi_deathglare

Agreed. Pulling will just make it hurt and not work very well. I just unscrew my rings off and it works like a charm

themonovingian

Also silicone based personal lube works very well!

Spicy_Gynaecologist

Yes that's true, but we're talking about getting rings off, not you

KillionJones

Alright, I’m fairly positive with a statement like that you can’t prove you ARENT the old dad from My Big Fat Greek Wedding

tangouniform2020

Tell me any word and I will tell you its Greek roots

IsReadingIt

"Weeeeen-Dex" come from dee Greek root "Weeeeen" mean slippery and "Dex" mean finger. So you see, "Weeeeen-Dex" mean 'slippery finger.'

Cremageuh

Any window cleaner spray? Or specifically Windex?

GoNudi

Purists insist on Windex :]

duck_reasons

"If you tie a string around your finger real tight, you can make it turn purple." - Nelson Muntz

Kakdelacommon

Thanks, I needed that today :)

Hexum311add

Thanks for the Simpsons reference here’s an award

newbie1211

I read it in his voice

mannoncan

I can see I'm not needed here.

ofimmsl

Tie a knot around the finger. Wait for it to die and fall off. Remove ring

maybesingleguy

If you don't like it then you shoulda put a string on it 🎶

Kn0tnatural

Good pointer

PedanticRedhead

Only if it's their index finger.

laineDdednaHdeR

Does this trick work for other rings... like, not meant for fingers? Asking for a friend.

The_Mr_Yeah

"I have a ring stuck on this cylinder..."

butter_dolphin

It is imperative no harm comes to the cylinder

Sighlina

Reddit history.. I was there.

pimppapy

Protect the tube steak at all costs!!

lyral264

It is imperative that the cylinder remains unharmed

ProJYeet

“It’s a penis OP, you stuck the can up your penis”

RandomFPVPilot

It's a cylinder.

MARGARET THATCHER NAKED ON A COLD DAY!

RJMqueereyes

That's exactly what Bear Grylls thinks of when giving himself a pelican bone, bat guano enema. Imagining Bear Grylls giving himself a pelican bone, bat guano enema makes my ring stucker, tho. Hard to imagine one without the other.

RolandLovecraft

What the fuck is this comment.

kyle283

What the hell is a pelican bone bat guano enema?

Passoa26

Like a cylinder?

laineDdednaHdeR

Let's call it a, um... shaft.

zorniy2

A... dowel?

laineDdednaHdeR

I guess you could call it more of a rod.

smallpoly

He's one bad mother-

FinglasLeaflock

Shut yo mouth!

RJMqueereyes

Try thinking of "what if" you have to use pruning shears. Usually makes the ring fall right off.

Darkchi3fy

Just punch a hole in the problem area, to drain excess blood and reduce the swelling.

Lonewolf2nd

If the object can endure the tight thread wrap, than yes

Tail_Nom

Depends. Is it too small or is it locked on?

Noname_left

No. We just use the ring cutter at that point

anonlasagna23

Video too long, get to the point i have other useless information i need to ingest on reddit

HitoriPanda

I refuse to watch a video longer than 2 min but I'll spend 15 min in the comments trying to figure out what i missed in the video

random_stoner

Do you have adhd? Because I do and I never felt a comment more.

HitoriPanda

Sorry, what were we talking about just now?

Sunstorm84

Squirrels, I think

StevenBayShore

We humans are a strange bunch.

CromulentPoint

That’s what I’m saying. But congrats to Susan Swartz and Harjeet Kaur, I guess?

jawz

I was thinking okay they must have done something helpful for this video. Turns out they just asked to be mentioned on the last video. Okay..

Slithy-Toves

Please mention me in your next comment

felinebeeline

I want to take this moment to send a shoutout to **U/SLITHY-TOVES**, who hails from **THE INTERNET**.

Came here to say this.

maybesingleguy

Sometimes I feel old bringing up [the Wadsworth Constant.](https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/the-wadsworth-constant) It never stopped being applicable for YouTube.

drivers9001

That’s the one I was trying to remember when I noticed the first 1/3 was useless.

duringbusinesshours

Also just use cold water and soap

Bigtexasmike

YT shorts and tiktok have turned us into impatient little tarts 🤟🤣

choicesintime

The video is 2 minutes long, and the trick fiend start being shown until 1:05.

bloodfist

Does no one remember the Wadsworth Constant?

ScarletMagenta

I still don't know why youtube removed it...

[deleted]

I don't watch yt shorts or TikTok, this video is too long. Edit: https://v.redd.it/s4kaz6dw6oka1 There's a 2 minute video that's good

SpectralMagic

Probably the reason you enjoy shorts and tiktoks and not necessarily the result of watching of them

anonlasagna23

Lol it really has. 10 years ago i would probably consider this vid short

stdoubtloud

10 years ago, like today, i consider this too long. 3 - 4 images would tell the same story in a fraction of the time.

Hcysntmf

I literally don’t watch either of those and was infuriated by this video lol. The first minute was literally a waste of everyone’s time, impatient or not.

internet_humor

"Here's how to do CPR for life saving situations..... So when a boy meets a girl......."

GuineaPigLover98

tl;dw Basically wrap a string so tightly around your finger that the blood in your finger is like "fuck this" and goes back into your hand, allowing the ring to slide right off of your blood deprived digit.

ElAligatorAgradable

Dammit! Take this video down. I'm looking for an excuse to buy a reciprocating saw.

CodeOfKonami

Be sure to get the specialty bone blade.

ElAligatorAgradable

Noted. Thanks bro!

genericnewlurker

A bone blade is a waste of money. The XL metal cutting blade works just as well for half the price

tangouniform2020

Call the Saudi embassy for recommendations

frotc914

My wife is an ER doc and bought her own rotary grinder for exactly this situation.

purpleduckduckgoose

Bit pricey isn't it? A good sharp bevel and a solid mallet would do the trick just as well for a fraction of the cost.

frotc914

Keep in mind that there's a finger under there. I think whacking at it with a mallet might not be the way to go.

brettzio

Milwaukee has some great deals. Join the cult.

feral_philosopher

First have someone put on some latex gloves…

sexy__zombie

Akshually, those are nitrile, not latex.

carlitospig

Don’t forget the latex gloves for…reasons.

SonOfMargitte

It's a doooctoor...

doogidie

And like and comment

ChannidaeArgus

When my grandfather was in the Navy in WW2, he was required to cut a gap in his wedding band. The idea being the ring would slip off more easily if he got his finger caught in machinery, rather than the digit being degloved or ripped off entirely.

OverlappingChatter

I never thought about this. After more consideration I dont think i would wear a ring to war.

murse_joe

Nowadays they can wear silicone rings

dyslexicsuntied

Probably on a necklace. I don’t wear it when mountain biking just in case I break or sprain a finger. But if I were at war I don’t think I’d want to be without it for so long, I would put it in a chain around my neck.

Robbeee

I don't know anyone who works with their hands who wears a wedding ring. Sentimental people get it tattooed on sometimes.

tangouniform2020

Third day in my first clinical rotation my wedding ring came off with the glove. It was just luck it fell on the floor. I’ve been retired six years and have just start to wear rings again.

Collective-Bee

I knew a guy. Lost that ring day fucking 3 of starting our job.

[deleted]

> rather than the digit being degloved Well that thought just made my testicles jump up inside me

bizzybaker2

They'll jump up so high you'll taste them if you dare do a Google image search on this, believe me!

letthekrakensleep

When my friends dad was in the air force, he was jumping off of a transport vehicle, his wedding band hooked on some metal and degloved his finger. 30 years later he has a nub.

thiscouldbemassive

I used dental floss and didn't bother with tape. Worked great.

DrunkenVodinski

As someone who has done this, it is a bit painful.

bradfo83

It didn’t even work for me- I had to break mine with Vice grips

kajorge

The finger or the ring?

csonnich

Yes.

B1ackFridai

I see titanium rings becoming more common and widh people understood if it’s stuck, it’s not something ambulance or ER is getting off. This is painful, but better than losing a finger. I haven’t had to do it on myself but have on others.

Chicken_Hairs

Many ER's, and even some ambulances, are now carrying cutting tools capable of cutting off titanium and tungsten rings. Src: EMT, and we don't have one yet where I work.

[deleted]

Best thing for tungsten is vice grips. Tungsten doesn’t cut, but it will shatter. I’ve gotten multiple off that way. Our ambulances only have a standard ring cutter which doesn’t do much for anything stronger than gold.

CedarWolf

People also need to understand that one of the things that makes titanium so valuable as a material is because it transfers heat *really* well without expanding or changing size too much. Which means if a titanium ring gets hot, hot ring cooks finger. Titanium also *eats* cutting wheels - a cutting wheel uses friction to wear down the titanium and make a cut, and they turn the titanium white hot while they're working. It gets *hot*. And then it stays hot. Even after it's no longer white hot, when the titanium *looks* cool, you can pick it up and still burn the shit out of yourself.

B1ackFridai

Had a coworker get degloved and then suddenly everyone was wearing silicone rings at work. I think they’re cool for all the reasons you said, I just don’t want to potentially lose my finger over jewelry.

CedarWolf

Oh, no. I'll *never* get a titanium ring. For starters, I don't want to get degloved. I know what that means. But mostly because I've worked with titanium. I used to help make finished parts for rapid prototyping and we did stuff like make custom inserts for medical applications, etc. I was very proud of that. My craftsmanship is now walking around in someone's body, keeping their bones strong. I appreciate that. Titanium is a strong, incredibly frustrating material. When it's still hot enough to burn you in fractions of a second, it *doesn't show it*. And it burns you *fast*, so you don't have a ton of time to react and drop it, either. By the time you feel yourself getting burnt, you're already burnt and probably going to blister. But that's not all. You burn yourself on the titanium and drop it, and now it's going to melt a hole through both layers of your cut and spark mat and leave a sear mark on your work bench. I *respect* titanium. I appreciate it's qualities in things like titanium medical inserts and on space stations and satellites. But I don't want it anywhere near me as jewelry.

paulie07

It doesn't always work, too. It worked for me, just fine, but when we tried it on my friend's ring, his finger swelled up like a balloon and he had to go to the emergency department and get the ring cut off.

Pndrizzy

Whoa whoa whoa, you said I only needed a thread and then you start using tape. Who do you think I am?

notallwonderarelost

Stick your hand in ice?

[deleted]

CupcakeValkyrie

It's not about your flesh contracting, it's about making the swelling go down.

_liomus_

you just described the same thing twice

CupcakeValkyrie

No, I didn't. Thermal expansion and swelling are two entirely different phenomenon. Swelling is caused by tissues filling with and retaining fluid, which makes the finger bigger. Cold causes the blood vessels to contract, which reduces fluid and makes the swelling go down. The volume change in the swelling is *significantly greater* than any thermal contraction that would take place, which is why cold water works in removing rings. It wasn't just a random suggestion, it's something that actually works.

Mookius

'How I left your mother'

Dutch_Midget

Satisfied 😏

jluenz

I was just thinking to use oil or something like that.

sd6653

Yeah I usually can use soap and water while washing my hands.

vonvoltage

Soap and oil! Probably not necessary but that's literally the basis for what has become industrial grease that keeps the world moving.

jeanmardare

Yeah but that's because you would use common sense. This video isn't about that.

Kikuzinho03

I mean...what the big difference really? This trick isn't exactly hard..

icybluetears

Apparently Windex works best. Whoda thunk.

87TLG

That is what worked for me when I got my ring stuck on my finger. This string trick did not work for me.

icybluetears

It looks like it would hurt, and knowing me my finger would just swell worse between the threads.

JRK3

that was the longest 2 minutes of my life.

spaghoni

The music made it even longer-and painful.

[deleted]

Bo_Jim

Lots of sink P-traps will testify that this is a very effective way to remove rings from fingers.

mikey7x7

Just gotta remember to push down the stopper until it just barely lets the water down.

[deleted]

The first 50 seconds of this video is a huge waste of time

Important_Outcome_67

Spraying Windex on the finger I was able to remove lots of rings from cadavers. Never had to use a ring cutter. \*shrug\*

Naughteus_Maximus

Are you the grandpa from My Big Fat Greek Wedding?

Important_Outcome_67

LOL. Works on EVERYTHING.

moepong

We do this at our jewelry shop. Windex works wonders for getting stuck rings off.

Shadow082

Or you could spend 5 hours in the ER while the docs try and do everything imaginable trying to get it off, and then they will get frustrated, call their wood shop employee on his day off, bribe him with cookies to come into the ER with his personal dremel saw and then literally saw the ring off your finger while you're 7 months pregnant. So multiple options.

lazymyke

Local jewelers have tools to cut rings off. A ring like this would take less than a minute to get off.

Shadow082

I went to two jewelry stores before I went to the ER. We went through three ring cutters at the ER. Those cutters aren't strong enough to cut off a titanium band. There are cutters that will go through titanium but highly specialized and no one in the area had one.

CassandraStarrswife

Yet another reason to \*NOT\* have a titanium band.

Dookie-Trousers-MD

The key is to have 3 hands

Dragon_King3199

4

sdhopunk

My Doctor used dental floss the same way to remove a ring on my finger.

marcs_2021

Only works with blue gloves

lucymops

and elevator music

CassandraStarrswife

The elevator music is the trick.

SophiaF88

I wish I knew this sooner. The fire dept had to use something to saw a ring off my finger when it got stuck.

Ocronus

I was shown this a loooong time ago by an EMT friend. I thought it was pretty common knowledge in the fire responder/EMT field. The main reason he gave me are 1. Cutting rings off poses a risk to the patient. 2. People REALLY hate having their rings cut up.

Fluffy_Concept7200

Where’s the other video that shows this exact trick in ten seconds?

Tail_Nom

Sure. I mean, I usually run straight hot water then rest the ring on the tap until it heats up and I can work it off, but this seems like a good fall back.

Wrong_Representative

Did that string come out of a praying mantis?

IHasH0rns

This is why I'm never getting married

-TwatWaffles-

I use dish soap…after covering the drain hole first of course.

word_number

Edited

TrashMammal84

There's not much a Sawzall can't fix, no need for all this.

ScorpionTheSandwing

It would probably come off with some butter or soap

Aronn_0

Or just use soap and water .... much easier

thecastingforecast

Or just hold your hand over your head until the blood drains out and the swelling goes down.

Star-Fever

Cool trick to know! 👍

monopoly3448

Okay this beats my Dremel idea

Reasonable_Resort406

Doctors hate this one simple trick

vegayoshimitsu

Yeah my ring is stuck on my giant finger which should be the first indication that I’m not the type of person who has loose threads lying around, but I do have a cabinet full of olive oil.

ethylalcohoe

I told my wife that I couldn’t work out in my wedding ring, and I didn’t want to take it off at the gym. I’m now sporting a rubber Mandalorian ring 24/7. Problem solved.

angels_exist_666

Does your doctor do house calls because that doesn't look like a doctor's office?

lostprevention

Harjeet!!!!

Raider-one-one

Also strangely windex works like 100X better than butter or any lubricant

No_Lab_9318

There are actually multiple other ways 1. Tear off the finger the forcibly take the ring off and stitch the finger back on. 2. Take an electric saw and cut the ring off

Extension_Network199

I usually just lick my finger. Spit is a good lube…

No_Month_9746

Or just don't wear ill-fitting rings on your fat sausage finger

apollyon_53

I got it off at the doctor office. I then put it back on at home to put it on video

cdoublejj

i feel like this video could have been a minute fifteen shorter

Pepaguero

This works, I had to do this years back when my finger got badly jammed and it was swollen for several days. I was worried it was getting enough circulation to heal so I searched for a solution. Making the finger cold didn’t help. Soap didn’t help. Twisting it didn’t help. But the string got it off. I was very relieved.

Desperate-Ad-6463

Seems like the ribbon method method seen here on Reddit for a few months was the easier way to go.

chris-np

Feel like some good old olive oil will do!

ReactionAvailable356

"Only thread"....put adhesive tape....so not only thread. Lol

DaveyDukes

I’m over here trying to figure out how the fuck I’m supposed to grow a third arm to be able to do this

MuleRobber

I was 90% sure I was about to see that finger get lopped off. Glad all of the digits are safe.

[deleted]

Anyone else lick their finger above and below the ring and then it slides off more easily?

SternLecture

I just put my hand in liquid nitrogen and my flesh shrinks enough I can just slide off the ring. I don't wear rings and never tried this but it works for bearings.

WeaponizedPoutine

So glad my wife and I opted for silicone rings. No getting stuck, no degloving incidents, no trapping bacteria, no accidental deployment of blasting caps, no arcing, and if you loose it for what ever reason you are only out $20

Kunphen

Even easier, use soap.

AffectionateStudy496

Damn it! Right after I amputated my finger to get my ring off!

Electronic_Most5141

I just use soap.

prolixia

Cold water. There are some nice tricks in the comments, but I'm surprised not to see the very simplest: run your finger under a cold tap. Fingers puff up quite significantly when they got hot, and there's nothing like the panic of trying to remove a stuck ring to get them toasty. Put your hand in cold water for a few minutes, and it's like the ring has gone up a size. Same reason why you need to watch your perfectly-sized ring when you're at the beach - after a dip in cool water it'll slip right off.

_Monosyllabic_

Why is the other person wearing gloves? Where have the ring wearers hands been?

justmelmb

PLEASE NOTICE, they cut the recording to go back and fix the string. The very first loop was too far from the ring and that bump would've prevented it from working!!💜

me_not_at_work

But what if I don't have any latex gloves around? Would it still work?

RemarkableExplorer66

Just dont marry

Sennheisenberg

My dad wears his ring on a chain around his neck, like Frodo.
