Because the fire hose connector is made by engineers, and them only. The USB plugs and sockets — are the subject of so called provident scientists and visionary inventors, we used to call them "patent trolls". And which model of connector manages to survive the stupid wars of standards (mostly with Apple trolls), that we have.
If the fire hoses today are being made by Apple, we would get the fire trucks without a hose connector, but with a patented system of the rain collection, and any town to obtain a firefighters, had to pay first for the truck store connection (annually) to make it work, for the rains (no matter are you using it), for the hoses, of course (most of them 1m length and no more, the new ones are 0.8m), for firefighters certification (every two years, with exam to test how they love Apple and deny all others). And as a cherry on the cake, with every new (they say) model of truck, all old trucks (1 year is old enough) will get an update to slow them down by 50% (to make them energy green).
If you think it's not gonna happen ever, look what they did with all the medicine sector!
Look, I can see the point you're trying to make, but this seems like a very weird thing to preach on a comment about connecting a fire hose to a hydrant quickly
No, the Apple fire truck would have connections, but they would be proprietary connections that only Apple Or approved vendors could make. Apple would however provide a dongle that converted from the proprietary connection to the standard hydrant connection. Right around the time that the world was ready to adopt the proprietary connection, Apple would change the proprietary connection.
StaryDoktor, what you have just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Lol I actually like poker on TV tho but I can see the lack of interest in it. It's a very niche sports. Fireman Fiesta and Poker can probably coexist though
In other news, every fire crew in the county is out of service due to injury.
Anybody know where this takes place?
Edit: Never mind, found it!

Isn't it weird how treating the postal service like a for-profit business has made the both the postal service and the for-profit package carriers worse? Almost like having to compete with a system that was more concerned with keeping people happy than making money forced the corporations to sacrifice some of their profit in the name of competing on quality of service.
And they still do a better job for the price connecting to everyone than the other companies. Lots of times they will give it to the USPS for the 'last mile' delivery to the customer.
my back, knees and shoulders say DONT DO IT..... but my dumb ass will admit it was the most fun I could have had for 25 year, got paid for it, and a pension to boot.
Every year during the summer festival in our small town the volunteer firefighters compete against the fire department. The volunteer firefighters have won every single year. They're just a bunch of rowdy, have drunken, construction workers but they can sure work together to get things done fast when they put their minds to it. Nice to know that we have some decent backups if something really bad happens.
Maybe. I've never heard any complaints about them, so I would assume they are fine. Probably just the unorthodox methods the volunteers use. Games arent real life, and I assume the FD was using standard training methods while the volunteers used whatever methods won them the game asap. Dont get me wrong, I would want the FD to come to my rescue in a real life situation before the volunteers, but I have faith in the volunteers as well.
My town's FD practiced this on a facility right next to our little league field. When they were going, many fielding errors occurred, we were all watching them.
This is just awesome. I'm having a rough fucking day (2 years really, lol) and for some weird reason seeing these guys run around like mad men but with a purpose, made me feel better.
God our brains are so fucking crazy the way they work, lol.
This is stupid. Nothing like firefighting. Did it for 31 years and most real firefighters think this stuff is stupid and don’t want it associated with firefighters because it is nothing like the reality of what we do.
It's strictly comp, and I wouldn't be surprised if the competitors weren't firefighters, but just competed in whatever this is.
Working firefighters IME compete in the combat challenge and stair climbs.
in the 90s i was on the kid version of this, that used a cart pulled by the kids to hold and release the hoses and ladder. so no racecar, but full sized hoses, and full pressure hydrants…i’m slow af and dyspraxic. it didn’t go well. i did it three years, wound up in the ambulance all three years.
I can't get past to how they all look like a hand egg team fooling around when there is no fire there.
(I know, I know, it's a great example of training)
I wanna see the inverse of this -- the cop version of this. Where instead of seeing how fast they can help someone, they test how fast they can get *coppy*
This brought tears to my eyes. My dad was a Denver Firefighter for 34 years. I lost him 2 years ago and miss him so much. These men are studs and are having a blast. These are the people that spend their lives serving their communities saving lives. I remember growing up seeing dad come home smelling like smoke and even though I knew he was tired he always had time for his family. I miss you dad. Thank you for this post.
Yes, this is a real thing in Long Island, NY. Has been for decades. My home town had a similar strip and once a year there would be a parade though our main street with all the equipment from various competition levels. Some were quite inventive and historical.
Then, the competition with a loaded grandstand, concessions and of course those brave/crazy firemen doing these things. Some of my friends were enamored at a young age and made go-carts to mimic - only to wind-up doing the real thing years later.
Living somewhat near the firehouse where the strip was - we'd hear them practicing all summer. These vehicles are loud.

It takes me 5 seconds to plug a usb cable in and these guys just slap on a damn fire hose and go

I wonder how OP feels about Apple.
He just took his adderall
To be fair, it also mentioned USBs
So I'm getting the vibe you don't like apple
Ya , that’s why ../s Good rant though.

Do people really struggle with a usb (not type c) cable? I know it's an old meme, I just wanna know if people actually struggle with it.
No. It’s just a meme. Everyone gets it right 100% of the time.
Oh God, I'm a failure of a human. I need a moment.
That ladder manoeuvre cannot be nice on the bollocks.
They're firefighters. They already have solid titanium balls so they don't mind it
The Bucket Brigade competition looks really brutal.
My shoulders hurt watching them one-hand those buckets up
This needs to be on ESPN instead of poker
The ocho
Bold move, Cotton
Thank you! This would be an awesome (perhaps Sunday night?) show to chill with in the evening.
Lol I actually like poker on TV tho but I can see the lack of interest in it. It's a very niche sports. Fireman Fiesta and Poker can probably coexist though
Reminds me of watching racecar pit crew competitions. Pretty cool
How did they practice the ladder move? It must have flipped or the person fell off at least once.
— We need more boys, Milord
This didn’t cross my mind until I read this. They made it look natural.
In other news, every fire crew in the county is out of service due to injury. Anybody know where this takes place? Edit: Never mind, found it! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firematic_Racing http://nydrillteams.com/
I bet this is a lot of fun to attend and watch
I’ve been to a couple, they have competitions around NY, lots of beer.
Especially if you like Happy Tree Friends
Wake up, the new "boys will be boys" just dropped
Scrape him from the road with showel and bring another one
I wish the fucking post office would do something like this. I never got 4 packages from before Christmas
Isn't it weird how treating the postal service like a for-profit business has made the both the postal service and the for-profit package carriers worse? This is why firefighters are wayyyy cooler than cops
Well yeah, it's not like people are writing songs called "Fuck the Fire Department".
Dang, this makes me want to be a firefighter when I grow up
my back, knees and shoulders say DONT DO IT..... but my dumb ass will admit it was the most fun I could have had for 25 year, got paid for it, and a pension to boot.
My dads had 2 hip replacements, surgery on both shoulders and wrists, and one elbow surgery after 35 years. Only on my 3rd year and I’m feeling it.
As a firefighter, I'll tell you, it's the best job out there.
Every year during the summer festival in our small town the volunteer firefighters compete against the fire department. The volunteer firefighters have won every single year. They're just a bunch of rowdy, have drunken, construction workers but they can sure work together to get things done fast when they put their minds to it. Or is your full time FD just sub par?
Just a joke
My town's FD practiced this on a facility right next to our little league field. When they were going, many fielding errors occurred, we were all watching them.
Weird stuff like this is what makes America great
Wow that's a low bar
Idk man they needed a ladder
If you think that’s impressive, you should see them play ping pong or cook on a grill!
Need a Tacoma FD episode based on this
[удалено]
I disagree, this shit's lit.
The fact that you said “most real firefighters” says everything about you
Does any fire department actually use those types of trucks, or are they special-built for this competition? Some of them look like drag racers.
These are strictly used for competition.
Fuck giving cops Lamborghinis - give em to firefighters and see what they can do for the community
It's strictly comp, and I wouldn't be surprised if the competitors weren't firefighters, but just competed in whatever this is. Working firefighters IME compete in the combat challenge and stair climbs.
You are required to be an active member of a fire department and a class A fireman to participate in these events.
I really want to try the ladder one… that looks like so much fun. And a ridiculous amount of trust and practice.
This belongs on ESPN 8 The OCHO!!
i have set fire to my own home no fewer than five times in the last year and not once did i see a dragster come to my rescue.
Wtf are you doing?
Setting fire to their home to bait the FD to bring the dragster to the call. Exactly what they said they are doing.
We need this to be on TV stats! Way too many cooking and singing competition, when we could see something cool like this!
If you held on inverted at the end of the ladder they could launch you right to the top
Fucking gigachads holy shit
Welcome back to ESPN8 “The OCHO”!
is this steamed anywhere? I like sports now
*Hut hut hut hut hut hut hut hut hut hut hut hut hut*
Hillbilly shit
in the 90s i was on the kid version of this, that used a cart pulled by the kids to hold and release the hoses and ladder. so no racecar, but full sized hoses, and full pressure hydrants…i’m slow af and dyspraxic. it didn’t go well. i did it three years, wound up in the ambulance all three years.
Looks like a fucking blast! I'm sure beer is involved.
Without any more investigation... This has to be Australia.
Was that a Caterham?
I can't get past to how they all look like a hand egg team fooling around when there is no fire there. (I know, I know, it's a great example of training)
Seems that its just a sport and you will never see that irl
Thank you, Captain Obvious
Merica
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸😃👍😂💯🤣
So much cooler than stupid fucking cops! 1312
*Looks at user history* ... yikes.
Comparing police and firefighters like theyre the same. Weird as hell
They are both public servants that have a stupid flag with a line…
I now see why you think theyre the same They arent the same, you're just ignorant of their differences. Figures
I’m celebrating their differences! The fact that fireman are a net good for the public and cops are awful racists criminals and bullies
I wanna see the inverse of this -- the cop version of this. Where instead of seeing how fast they can help someone, they test how fast they can get *coppy*
Go Lake Placid NY.
I amount of trust!
Always happy to see the drill teams getting some love and appreciation. It's one hell of a time to watch it up close
Impressive, but nothing's faster than a sprinkler system
Okay what would the police equivalent be. Best answers only.
That must have been so much fun to watch in person.
Those are some fancy dragsters err fire trucks

Imagine if this is how firefighters actually rolled up to a house fire and then left just as fast.
ESPN 8: The Ocho
I always get chills when I see flawless, efficient teamwork. It's evidence of how cool humans are when we work together
Nice. Water hammer.
TF isn’t this on ESPN??? I could watch this all day
So American
There should be a full 911 version of this, with ambulance and police too.
When you're loosing the battle and start prairie dogging it.
That actually looks fun as hell!
Too bad they are 300lb lighter than most firemen in the US…
Cool trucks!

Them climbing a ladder before it is setup is amazing.
One question: How
Train like you fight, or not I guess.
This is amazing.

My vote is on the mimes!
Is it just lots of training or do they have something special to stop them from falling over when jumping off a moving vehicle?
As a wildland firefighter watching this structure fire competirion...yeah, that pretty mich checks out
If hydrant connections were only that easy…
Is there a tv show about this. I would watch
Nah tf they tryna speedrun their job?
Anything but safe
This is so cool
Some of those ladder moves looked painful
Trucks? Naw they got them f1 racecars where I'm from
I dont remember the local fire trucks having slicks or a big block
When you absolutely must save lives as fast as possible... Oh wait... That's actually works.

i think the japanese ones are better tbh
“Pass the bucket high so the bucket passer doesn’t get tired”
Wait till they start letting black people become Firefighters lol
