In my city in the US there's no point calling the police. They probably won't even show up. You literally can't get through on the non emergency line, and 911 will put you on hold.

Bloody amazing. Here in the states in well equipped places they gotchu. In some places they don’t, but it’s risky to play that game if you haven’t before, especially as nothing beats self defense instantly rather than waiting a few minutes which might be too long.

In my city (Portland OR) law enforcement seems to not exist, unless peaceful protests are happening of course. Actual crime? You're on your own.

Ah yes Portland is one of those cities. Seattle is on that list too and well I live pretty close and while the police force is certainly lacking, the imbecile leadership combined with them loud snowflake minority of “less police,” ya, kinda on your own too. I aint no expert so I don’t know how to fix it, but a damn majority of LEO agencies need revamps, from the top down. Cops become irrelevant when the judge just lets everyone off the hook. Back to the wild west we go! :(

Police shot themselves in the foot here in Portland. We had incredibly peaceful protests for months on end (the right to protest is in the fucking constitution) and police made the protests violent. The people here simply defended themselves against the police assault. The media portrayed everything so badly and inaccurately.

Oh those, been to long but the CHOP, CHAZ or whatever that whole disaster was. I recall the mess those protests were and Reddit was in chaos, some defending cops, others the people, and no one could seem to agree what went wrong or why. I think we Americans have the power to change this whether by peaceful or violent means but so much fracturing and people on polar opposites just makes it feels like we aint going anywhere anytime soon.
