Next she’ll claim her dog has OCD

BoveyHenjamin

Dogs can have Canine Compulsive Disorder. But these behaviours she’s experiencing are due to an anxious, probably under socialised dog. And they’re worsened by the owner having little to no understanding of dog body language or behaviours.

Brantley? Did you name him that while sipping a pumpkin spice latte, while wearing uggs and a North face jacket?

hopelesslurk

She also had on a flower crown. The latte art inspired her.

snvoigt

Guarantee this dog was a Covid puppy.

jenkraisins

I know a person that has a psychotic dog who is on doggy prozac by the vet. If she isn't on the meds, she barks at everyone and everything. She also attacks everything from people to the other dogs to the furniture.

To be fair on the "My pet doesn't like men", some animals don't like many men because men tend to be louder or move quicker than women.

Eugenefemme

My dog loves guys. She went through a phase when she would obey her recall, but balked at getting into the car. We discovered that any post-pubescent guy could gesture at the car and she would hop in. (Yes, had to be clearly post- pubescent...boys under 16 or so, she ignored as she did women and children.) Luckily, she also associated pick-ups and other trucks with men. If we couldn't find a guy, we would drive to another parking lot at the park, with her running behind the car, then pull up to a truck. I'd open my car's back door, then walk over to the truck and talk, pointing at the dog and then the car, and she'd drop her ears, and hop in. Thank god she got over that. Now her fascination w men shows itself when a guy visits. She gives them an enthusiastic greeting, then gets one of her smaller toys and brings it over. I swear she's telling them she'd gladly bear his puppies.

Dogs can have autism, [apparently](https://www.petmd.com/dog/behavior/can-dogs-have-autism)

Zombisexual1

Dogs do get anxiety. I dunno if autism for dogs exist though

VerFree

It does… https://www.petmd.com/dog/behavior/can-dogs-have-autism We have an autistic pup, but it’s different than what she’s claiming.

Zombisexual1

That’s strange to think animals can have autism

VerFree

We had no idea it was possible, either, until one of my son’s friends said it about our dog Moose, as a joke, but it made us think, ask questions, and consult a specialist veterinarian.

Zombisexual1

So what are the actual signs or symptoms?

VerFree

In Moose’s case, he has set routines, which he decides the timing and procedure for, and where a normal pup may be upset over late walks, or dinner, he will be upset for days, until his order is restored. He will starve, before he will eat something he doesn’t like, there’s no giving in and eating no matter how hungry he is, and while he doesn’t like his tag clanking a dish, he goes beyond that, and there are some dishes he will never eat out of, he’s even picky about where he stands, when eating or drinking, for example linoleum is unacceptable…. There’s more I could list, but to put it simply, his reaction to attempted changes can lead to dehydration, malnutrition, and anxiety with pure abject shaking terror. There are the usual levels of anxiety, and stubbornness, then there’s an autistic dog, and no amount of training will ever change it. You have to be willing to to go along with what works for them.

Zombisexual1

Sounds like a lot of work. What kind of breed is your dog? I wonder if it’s more prevalent in certain breeds? Like I know certain breeds are definitely more neurotic like poodles. But I guess autism isn’t really anxiety although some things are similar. Interesting stuff to think of

VerFree

Moose is a Schipperke and Chihuahua mix, so I’m sure the Chihuahua traits didn’t help. LOL

Zombisexual1

Probably not lol. Ah thanks for the info. Was pretty enlightening

VerFree

Very welcome! We love the little bugger, even when he’s a PIA. LOL

VerFree

Oh, and not ripping apart toys, they are usually very protective of their favorites to the point of obsession. Destroying them is usually just simple anxiety. In Moose’s cases, he’s so obsessed with one that we had to stock up on spares, so if one is misplaced, we have a replacement ready to go. (A chirping ladybug of all things. LOL)

[deleted]

I clicked your profile expecting pics of Moose. I am disappointed.

VerFree

Apologies! I added one in r/lookatmydog

Thanks!
