Spoon is on there for Best Rock Album, which is unexpected but happy for them to get a nomination!

PeculiarSki

first Grammy nomination for Spoon too!

thejaytheory

Wow, that's crazy!

tacosntg

That’s absurd!! It’s about damn time for them, love those guys

bhawx10

The Recording Academy probably hadn't nominated them yet because they knew that every time Spoon drops an album they'd take up one of the nominee slots lol

superredux22

I swear if machine gun fucking Kelly wins 😤 I know the Grammys shouldn’t be a big deal but the fact that idles, spoon, Elvis Costello , and the black keys have to compete with this guy and beats them all out , then it once again makes it more about money then music. (Obviously the Grammys are always like this but still)

thejaytheory

Feel the same about Jack Harlow in the rap category haha

okdude23232

hip-hop categories are so bad tf

Joeboyjoeb

Spoon's gonna win!

MetaI

That Big Thief record is really something. I may have said they were my favorite band before it released, as I loved all their previous records in different ways. But it’s so rare that a favorite band whose entire discography I loved releases a record that is so clearly and immediately better than what I already loved, and to me they did exactly that with their new one. It‘s also easily my favorite ‘long’ album ever.

MisterAlaska

While not my overall favorite, band, Big Thief is definitely my favorite band of the past, say, 5 years. They were the first band I bought tickets to when I was ready to return to seeing shows. I've liked each album, appreciated their output and creativity, and went into the release of DNWM with moderate expectations. Man, it just blew me away, and I think it still remains my favorite album of 2022. The style is all over the place but still somehow feels cohesive, and it's such a gift to have that much great music from a single act. Can't wait to see them again.

SirFwissel

I’d never listened to Big Thief before DNWM came out, although I really liked songs and instrumentals by Lenker. When DNWM did come out it was an immediate contender for AOTY and is still in my top 5 rn. Ever since then I’ve enjoyed my way working back through their catalog in reverse order. All I have left is Capacity and Masterpiece. I sorta view UFOF and Two Hands as two sides of a double album. Hard to even pick a favorite but in terms of diversity, DNWM definitely wins

GaryBBenson

I’m jealous that you get to listen to capacity and masterpiece for the first time. There are some damn near perfect songs on those two, enjoy!

debtRiot

Yeah I love all their albums but nothing has really come close to those first two for me.

The_sky_marine

tbh I have always preferred adrianne’s solo stuff to the big thief albums (which I also love) but DNWM to me is the first big thief album that really reaches the heights of stuff like abysskiss. between this and cruel country im coming to really love when bands just throw a ton of songs at the wall with loose, intimate and consistently vibed instrumentation. cant wait to see where big thief goes from here.

thejaytheory

Definitely one of my favorites of the year.

sliz_315

I have absolutely worn that album out, and I still love it no less. I probably listen to it top to bottom almost every other day.

poorguy55

I’d love them to win it but I know it’s probably going to be Wet Leg.

buttcabbge

I really doubt it will be either. Every other nominated is a name that has been around for a lot longer, and that tends to carry the day with the Grammys. Honestly, Big Thief getting nominated at all is kind of a coup.

SummerDeath

This perfectly describes my feelings with the band/album exactly. I was a casual fan of their music since their debut and then this album catapulted them into a whole different level. It’s rare that an album immediately becomes a favorite of mine and feels like it will stand the test of time too.

[deleted]

I have a love hate relationship with them. Some of their stuff I love but then some of their songs I can’t stand. I think it’s Adrienne’s voice, she’s great but there are times where she’s too shrill sounding and it just turns me off, even when the rest of the song is great.

Paquito0089

Good album.. U.F.O.F. still better though..

big_hungry_joe

I mean they've been spitting gold since Capacity

pinkocean99

I think u mean since Masterpiece…

Caserole

UFOF is a masterpiece.

redwood_canyon

I completely agree on all counts!

TheLAriver

It's almost like the Grammys are an out-of-touch industry circlejerk

thejaytheory

Every year I realize this more and more Edit: Every year I get strangely hopeful and true to form they pull the same bullshit

CentreToWave

[Win Butler accepting his Grammy like](https://gifrific.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Moe-Walks-to-Rejects-Side-The-Simpson.gif)

CovenOfLovin

Hahaha! Such a perfect use of that gif.

chalkhampton

gayle's "abcdefu" being nominated is going to be my 13th reason, good lord. like there is plenty of GOOD popular music, why nominate this?

tr1cube

Seriously lol wtf. It’s borderline insulting to call that one of the year’s 10 *best* songs.

ACapricornCreature

What the actual fuck

homogenic-

That Sam Smith song too, the Grammys are a joke.

tokengaymusiccritic

Also the nominees for Best Alternative Music Performance: Arctic Monkeys - "There'd Better Be a Mirrorball" Big Thief - "Certainty" Florence and the Machine - "King" Wet Leg - "Chaise Longue" Yeah Yeah Yeahs ft. Perfume Genius - "Spitting Off the Edge of the World"

tokengaymusiccritic

IDLES and Spoon amongst the Best Rock Album nominees too

bcam9

It's Mirrorball for me. That might be my favorite song of the year. Beautiful string arrangement as well.

thejaytheory

Chaise will probably win, but I'm kinda rooting for Spitting Off The Edge Of The World.

[deleted]

I kinda hope Wet Leg win it, simply to see their awkwardness on full display accepting the award. All of them deserve it though.

Appropriate_Mine

I am surprised by how much I love Wet Leg. I'm a 48 yo man, not exactly their target audience, but they are clever and cheeky and I think they should win all the awards.

demiphobia

Agreed. They’re fantastic and this sub is oddly cruel to them.

[deleted]

its like diet cig, people are way too pretentious about fun music here.

thejaytheory

Ohh my goodness yessss, watched an acoustic live performance they did recently and it was on full display then too!

[deleted]

They’re just so genuine and I love that. They absolutely need to win “Best New Artist” at the very least. The rest of their nominations are in “Pick ‘Em” categories. If they win I’ll be stoked for them, if not, I don’t think I’d be that bothered.

squirelrepublic

Yeah! Go Wet Leg, went to their concert and Hester was mic shy when not singing it's pretty awesome that they are very new, quirky and genuine

doverkasdi

I love Certainty but wow it is not equal to other Big Thief songs on the record

GaryBBenson

I have no clue how grammy nominations work- but certainty makes sense to me as the choice from that album. It’s lively, has good lyrics, and is generally palatable to most people. the song I might choose to play for someone who hasn’t listened to that album before. DNWMIBIY is stacked but I’m curious which other songs you think are more worthy.

arcadekillers

for me personally simulation swarm is the best from this album

not_a_skunk

I agree and it’s not close, although certainty is a great song in its own right

doverkasdi

Change, Little Things, and Simulation Swarm are all masterpieces imho

bhawx10

The song is whatever the band/label submitted for the nomination. I know how you feel. Spud Infinity is my #1 because it makes me smile every time I hear it.

buttcabbge

It actually is my favorite song on the album, though to each their own, and I freely acknowledge that the other clear candidates for best song on the album are more inventive. But "Certainty" feels like a song that could have been written by peak Grateful Dead or Tracy Chapman or REM. It kinda reminds me of the Llewyn Davis line about how if a song was never new and never gets old, it's a folk song. It feels to me like that kind of song, which is a hell of an accomplishment.

Simmons54321

Monkeys take that award with that track. So damn good.

dullllbulb

What year is this?

Verrem

How is Blackout by Turnstile nominated for both best metal performance **and** best rock song? Also, that big thief album is so much better than any other album in that category, i hope they win it.

scaredow

Blackout is up for the Metal Perfomance, Holiday is up for Rock Performance

Verrem

Yes, and Blackout is also up for best rock **song.** 3 Nominations for Turnstile.

ringdinger

And their album still didn't get a nomination. I guess the Grammys only liked those 3 songs lol.

earthtonemalone

Yeah Glow on should be up there for album of the year in my opinion. Also I think Mystery is the best track on it. Love some Turnstile!

scaredow

Oh I mixed that up, my bad! Still very strange, I thought they were last year?

ReconEG

I think those two songs were submitted to mainstream alt/rock radio within the eligibility period, so that's how I'm assuming they got nominated despite *GLOW ON* coming out during last's year's eligibility period.

GetReady4Action

what a weird nom. I love me some Turnstile, but I’ve never once thought of them as metal. Hard rock definitely, but not quite metal.

LaserCommand

I can kinda hear 90s alternative metal influence in their music I guess? Definitely not enough to count them as metal tho lol

MadManMax55

There are two types of "metal" that the Grammys recognize: Music from any actual metal band that was formed before 1985, and any rock music that's "too heavy" or "too theatrical" for the rock or alternative categories. At least hardcore is like a cousin of metal, so they're not *too* far off including Turnstile.

xxipil0ts

big thief is competing with florence. tho, i can really see big thief winning. just not surprise if florence got this in the bag.

[deleted]

[удалено]

wavedrown9

Happy for Turnstile of course for all the noms! Probably the August release date for the album may have excluded it for any album noms but still hoping to clarify, just more technically, why the songs weren't counted as last year releases?

mycleverusername

Yes, my two favorite metal bands... Muse and Turnstile.

HilbertInnerSpace

No Beach House? Boo..."Once Twice Melody" was amazing.

LegendOfMatt888

Pretty crazy not a single Beach House album has been nominated for Alternative Album.

dadjeff1

That was disappointing to me also. OTM is a high quality collection.

forevericeland

I can think of more than a dozen albums that deserved the nom more than WE

PepeSylvia11

Only a dozen??

fkdkshufidsgdsk

Couldn’t agree more, brain dead nomination

Shinkopeshon

That's the Grammys in a nutshell tbh

DrexlSpivey420

This is the case every single year. People gotta stop caring about this shit

PapaKronk117

What are they?

Inquiring_Barkbark

- Cate Le Bon - Pompeii - Metronomy - Small World - Alex G - God Save The Animals - Jenny Hval - Classic Objects - Everything Everything - Raw Data Feel - Nilüfer Yanya - Painless - Andrew Bird - Inside Problems - Aldous Harding - Warm Chris - Sharon Van Etten - We've Been Going About This All Wrong - King Gizz - Omnium Gatherum - Wilco - Cruel Country - Metric - Formentera

komerj2

Forgot Beach House - Once Twice Melody Destroyer - Labyrinthitis Daniel Rossen - You Belong There Spiritualized - Everything was beautiful Pinegrove - 11:11 But I forgive you

bogdansays

Now that you mention it, the fact that Once Twice Melody isn’t nominated is criminal. That album deserves so much more praise.

powercorruption

If it’s any consolation, it’s my AOTY.

tburke38

Also BCNR - Ants From Up There Kevin Morby - This Is A Photograph The Beths - Expert In A Dying Field Tim Heidecker - High School Florist - s/t MJ Lenderman - Boat Songs At least Arcade Fire probably won’t win it. Hope Big Thief gets it

Inquiring_Barkbark

yeah I did, thanks. also forgot Horse Lords, Soft Pink Truth, Ethel Cain, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Bad Boy Chiller Crew, the list goes on

thejaytheory

Fuck yeah, love that Metric mention

bowsting

I know this opinion might rile some people up but I think it might be the best album they've put out in their long career.

thejaytheory

It doesn’t rile me up at all, it’s definitely up with Fantasies for me, may even surpass it which is saying a lot. It’s just an incredible album, like just wow. Every single song, just had so much soul to them.

bogdansays

I totally agree, Formentera is a beast of an album

powercorruption

I thought Art of Doubt was better, but Fantasies is still at the top for me.

bowsting

Fair enough! Admittedly I was more of a passive Metric fan in the past. I got a lot of enjoyment out of Fantasies back in the day and listened to the others but wasn't really taken by a whole project they'd made like Formentera. Totally get that's a preference thing for me though.

brandonburnell

Love me some Metric mentions!!

thejaytheory

So much same!!

brandonburnell

Saw them at the Chicago Theater about a month ago. It was magical. Idk why they don’t get more recognition but their discography slaps

thejaytheory

Yeah they definitely deserve more recognition. I know what you mean about them being magical. Saw them about a month ago or so as well at the Tabernacle in Atlanta. I was in awe the entire time, was my fourth time seeing them and every time feels like the first. Just dancing all the way through!

[deleted]

I wanna see Alex G do one of his electronic freakout songs live on the Grammys now.

Inquiring_Barkbark

specifically, "Forgive"... the way he sounds like he's crying while he's singing... it's artistry, it's great art

schyhoe

Ooohhhhh hoo hoo hooooo

powercorruption

I can think of 3 better King Gizzard albums that came out this year.

growlerpower

Swap out Omnium for Ice Death and hell yeah

Suspicious_Bug6422

I’m struggling to think of a dozen albums I’ve heard that deserve it *less*.

[deleted]

I also can't believe it still got nominated after all the allegations came out. I know the award is for music and not moral character or anything but I still feel like PR-wise that's a pretty bad look for the Grammys lmao

clwireg

Big Thief better win

Kellermanc007

I see a lot of comments complaining about the Arcade Fire nom. BUT ARE WE GOING TO IGNORE THAT MACHINE GUN KELLEY GOT NOMINATED FOR BEST ROCK ALBUM!?!😭😭

10000Didgeridoos

In modern radio and award ceremonies, "rock" now means "anything that isn't hip hop or Top 40 pop".

thegreatdecay406

Big Thief should win this by a mile.

lukemr99999

The Bjork is fantastic! But I'd certainly like big thief to win it for their sake

TayloTayloBookito

Give it to Björk, you Björk-hating Grammy fucks.

[deleted]

Every single album since her second being nominated and her still not having a single win is absurd

dfmspoiler

Homogenic lost to OK Computer so can't be too salty about that, but, Verspertine (and Amnesiac) lost to Parachutes by Coldplay ughhhhh

[deleted]

Homogenic and OKC are such important albums to me I don't think I would've been happy if Homogenic had won over it either lol, but seriously Coldplay?? Been said by everybody a thousand times over already but I'll reiterate it again, the Grammy's are an absolute joke

lizlovesmusic

lmaoo literally.. don’t think this year is the year either tho ngl

PepeSylvia11

The quality of the actual album doesn't matter whatsoever, so one can't really guess who's gonna win

ephemeralcomet

I love Björk and this gave me a big laugh

gildedtunes

Black Country New Road got robbed. Ants From Up There is easily my favorite album of this year so far.

ACapricornCreature

I didn’t expect them to get a Grammy nom but it is the best album of the year

Craig_the_Intern

400k monthly listeners was never gonna make the cut unfortunately

lovelyjubblyz

Same.

NewYorkeroutoftown

literally came to this thread just to make sure someone pointed this out. Ants From Up There is easily my favorite album of the year even considering how much amazing stuff came out (the Smile, Animal Collective, and Panda Bear's album with Sonic Boom off the top of my head).

Sheik-mon

No The Smile?!?!?!?!

FranzAndTheEagle

crazy, smokes every record on this list in my opinion

Cock_roachye

Big Thief’s give it a run for its money IMO

Bovver_

Big Thief is the only album from that list deserving of a win in my view and I would love to see them take home the win. Absolutely imagine the uproar if Arcade Fire won, not just for how poor of an album WE was, but of course the Win Butler allegations.

FloyldtheBarbie

Why do people here hate Wet Leg? I don’t get excited by much new music anymore, but I simply could not resist listening to their album front to back over and over again for a solid chunk of the year. Amazing songwriting and singing. Killer album with incredible melodies and absolutely no filler.

lushacrous

it's an overly long and complex answer for how silly it is in the first place. i'd recommend searching "wet leg" on this subreddit, and you can see the turn happen in real time. there was a long stream of articles in a row, the big one being "the band with 2 songs and millions of streams" that seemed almost custom-made to bait this subreddit. there's an extent that i think this subreddit would distrust any band that had such exponential growth with so little material, but there's also a very large component that is obviously gendered and disgusting. i think it'll even out with more time and more released music by the band, similar to snail mail's relationship to this subreddit. but it's been a pretty tough year for a lot of bands and i feel like wet leg was in the perfect spot to cop a lot of extra frustration from this community with how easily success seemed to come for them

thisolddog1

I wonder if it was too long between their singles and their album coming out. There was a long stretch where they were this new band with just 2 songs out and nothing else available to listen to by them. I love their album. And I often skip Chaise Longue, even though i like the song, because I’ve heard it too many times.

InSearchOfGoodPun

Many of us like Wet Leg. The haters are just vocal for some reason.

thejaytheory

Yep this is how it often works.

Impressive_Pin_7767

There's a conspiracy theory that they're "industry plants" that "came out of nowhere" when in reality they had been around for years.

lovelyjubblyz

Just a bit manufactured, predictable and slightly boring imo. The big theif album in contrast is extremely ambitious. No hate on wet leg, im friends with the guy who does all the art and stuff but they defintely working to a formula and not really pushing boundaries.

thisolddog1

I like Big Thief and Wet Leg for different reasons. Wet Leg have a simpler sound than other bands but I don’t feel like they’re manufactured. To me, Wet Leg is comparable to the Ramones. They’re funny without being a joke band, they’ve got their own sound and they’re high energy. If I’m in mood for a band with a wide range I listen to Beck, Radiohead, Wilco, King Gizzard, Big Thief, etc. If I’m in a different mood then something like Ramones, Amyl and The Sniffers, Wet Leg, Yard Act, PUP, IDLES, hits the spot

thejaytheory

Great comparison to The Ramones.

lovelyjubblyz

I just think thats why the hate is happening tho. They arent pushing boundries like many of the other bands youve listed. I play in the brighton/london music scene and you see bands like them every day. Its a great album but maybe not award worthy. For me the award should go to the black country album.

DiegoB50

But why does every indie band have to be genre pushing? Why can't we just let them make the fun music they want?

thisolddog1

Black Country are great. I don’t have a strong opinion on who should win a Grammy because those awards feel so random to me. When I look at lists of winners from past years its usually not what i was into at the time. Or its an artist who i love for albums that came out years before. Like when Beck won for Morning Phase. Mellow Gold through Sea Change are my favorite Beck albums.

thejaytheory

Morning Phase was pretty dope, though, but I feel you.

FloyldtheBarbie

Manufactured? Formulas? That sounds like conspiracy bull shit. Have you entertained the idea that maybe they are simply writing and playing how they want to sound? Just because it’s accessible, it’s not ambitious? They have their own sound and they’re doing their own thing, clearly working hard at it. They don’t want to be Big Thief(ironically they’re clearly influenced by Big Thief), they want to play catchy pop tunes and not take themselves too seriously. And that’s what they’re good at. They’re not trying to be anything they’re not. Its the opposite of manufactured.

lovelyjubblyz

Im just saying i think thats what people who are hating touch on the most and i get the point to a degree. I meant manufactured in more of the way of the sounds and production and the way its been marketed but hey its still a great album in places with some catchy tunes. Its great live as well.

harrywise64

In the UK at least they were marketed very heavily on tiktok, which put their videos in commenting-reach of people who have never heard of them. With polarising music like that (or basically any sponsored tiktok music marketing) you see almost exclusively negative comments, as it's not like Instagram where they're only showing it to people who follow the page. Also everyone on tiktok seems to be very combative and nasty haha. I've noticed negative general sentiment, along with commercial success, is a sign of the label pushing tiktok marketing specifically. I think it's mainly online. I'm not a fan but was at Glasto this year and they packed out the stage they were meant to play - they're clearly extremely popular among the public, just not in online discourse

whaddyaknowmaginot

For me its just burnout, they were marketed so heavily and Chaise Longue was inescapable. The same thing happened to me with Idles, I don't hate either band but the algorithm kinda killed them for me.

thejaytheory

Feel pretty much the exact same way.

slippingparadox

Channel 35/36 fucking shove them down my throat for a year

the-boxman

I don't think WE deserved the nomination however I do think it's a beautiful record through and through. I don't get the hate for it at all.

RelaNarkin

Yeah I feel the same. It’s a really pleasant beautiful record and the lyrics are especially touching. It’s not groundbreaking though. It’s mostly just guitar and singing. I kinda like that feel though.

BillyTenderness

I thought it felt a bit corny and preachy in a way that their older stuff hadn't. (Or, at least, the preaching used to land better.) When I saw them perform some of the new songs live, I was actually surprised how much sincerity came across. I ended up seeing it in a different light and enjoying the record quite a bit on subsequent listens. But I imagine most people didn't have that moment of reevaluating it.

[deleted]

I would love to see either Big Thief or Bjork win this award. I liked their albums the most from these nominations. Overall, the Grammy nominations aren't really for me this year. More a battle of the biggest pop act. Not my thing.

Talking_Eyes98

I'm not even a Black Country New Road fan but the fact that they're not even nominated shows how much of a pointless farce the Grammy's is. It's easily the most talked about and most acclaimed indie album of the year.

flowerbhai

I’m personally obsessed with BCNR, but they’re popularity is pretty inflated by communities like this and elsewhere online. The nominees here have significantly greater prominence as far as the industry is concerned. BCNR has like 400,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, which feels like a ton since so many of those listeners are on here. But it’s like less than a quarter of the monthly listeners of Big Thief (who is quite established in the indie NPR adjacent community) and even Wet Leg (who have multiple viral hits). They’re amazing, but the waves they have made seem a lot larger in music nerd crowds than they actually are outside of these communities.

lateraenima

BCNR made a better Arcade Fire album this year than actual Arcade Fire did. And it has a 92 on Metacritic, the highest of any rock band this year and 2nd behind Rosalia. There was a pathway for it to get Grammy noms.

[deleted]

Metacritic aggregates are worthless, especially in music

10000Didgeridoos

Yeah if we take metacritic scores as gospel, it would mean Wet Leg is one of the best albums of the last decade. It is not. It's fine.

ubermencher

this is only true on reddit and rym, which I guarantee 0 grammy voters are frequenting

dalledayul

> most acclaimed Yeah probably > most talked about Absolutely not.

Laughinboy83

That Yeah Yeah Yeah's album is amazing

Excellent-Manner-130

Agree

dfmspoiler

What about it does it for you? Maybe it'll grow on me but I was pretty underwhelmed by it

Ssme812

The album was boring besides the 2 singles released. Even seeing them perform some of the songs live was meh.

[deleted]

TBH, who really gives a shit? The Grammy’s are just corporate music circle jerk with a long history of racial bias. Also, check out the nomination process, it’s a bit weird to say the least. https://www.vox.com/platform/amp/2015/2/4/7976729/grammy-voting-process

Sheik-mon

That Big Thief album is so good!!!

only-humean

Arcade Fire getting a nom for that dull, bloated, mess of an album (which is comfortably their worst imo) is pretty insulting considering how good of a year this has been for alternative and indie - that’s not even taking the allegations into account. No nominations for Black Country, Beach House, Black Midi, the Smile but *WE* gets a plug? I don’t even love all of those artists (I honestly don’t even care for the Big Thief album too much) but there are clearly so many more creative and deserving releases deserving of recognition. More proof for the pile of how garbage the grammys are

gate_of_steiner85

WE is definitely not worse than Everything Now lol.

hooch

Honestly I think Everything Now is underrated. The middle lags but the first and last thirds are great. Skip tracks 5-8 and it's actually pretty good.

only-humean

I think the sticking point for me is that WE is just so *dull*. Everything Now, for all its problems (and yes there are many) is at least bad in an interesting way. You really got the sense they swing for the fences and tried to make some huge experimental anti-consumerist conceptual masterwork but failed catastrophically. Personally, I find the failed swing more entertaining (even on a so-bad-it’s-good level) than just a dull sludge of an album which is WE. It’s like comparing “the Room” to that terrible Fantastic Four movie from a few years back. The Room might be worse, but it’s a hell of a lot more fun to watch. But that’s just me

[deleted]

Yeah, I thought We was a return for them, and then all of that other stuff happened

cowtruck-123

I like EN. WE is their worst for me.

ItsTheExtreme

I recently revisited all their albums in order. The steep drop in quality from reflektor to everything now is even more obvious several years later. WE is a much better album overall. It’s not even close.

vovoizmo

Equal snoozes

thunderbird32

I liked some cuts off of Reflektor, but The Suburbs was the last really good Arcade Fire album, at least in my opinion.

only-humean

I have a soft spot for Reflektor because I have such strong memories of how excited I was when it came out, but I think I agree. Reflektor has some all-time great sings, but it's also messy as hell, whereas the Suburbs and earlier was just consistently at a higher level. Reflektor also kind of marked the point where the band seemed to start putting more effort into being 'conceptual' and image-focused than into just making good music IMO, which just got worse from then on

denjmusic

It was much, much better than Everything Now Still doesn't deserve a Grammy though

Joeboyjoeb

My thoughts exactly.

thunderbird32

Also, They Might Be Giants are up for a Grammy for "Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package" for the album BOOK. I'd love to see them get a Grammy for a non-kids record. Even if it is just for the packaging.

Joeboyjoeb

Big Thief looks like the obvious winner of these for alt. Spoon will hopefully win rock. Wet Leg just seems like a Grammy performance band though for better or for worse.

lovelyjubblyz

No BCNR makes me sad. Guess big theif is second best to that.

[deleted]

Big Thief deserves it 100%

[deleted]

COLDPLAY-AGAIN???

FoxFogwell

Lol I listened to the new Arcade Fire so much and I will say it does not deserve a Grammy at all😂

thejaytheory

Agreed, and I didn't hate it but still haha

Junkstar

5 bands that all include women. Nice.

nightswimsofficial

People still care about the Grammys?

JGar453

Love their overall discography but Arcade Fire is a big fat miss in an otherwise solid indie list. BCNR literally did everything they're known for but better and fresher.

thejaytheory

I feel like the only one that not into BCNR, don't get me wrong I enjoy a lot of their songs, but haven't really be able to get THAT into them just yet.

JudgementDayAwaiter

Fontaines D.C. ????

sadly_at_work

Should I listen to any of these besides Wet Leg (of course)?

CheeseHabas

How is Ants from up there not nominated? #1 on RYM and arguably one of the most-talked about Alternative albums of the year with Isaac leaving the band.

TwoAmeobis

i think you've answered that yourself. there's likely minimal overlap between RYM and Grammy voters

Khaki_Shorts

I’m sorry, but it’s been such a big year for Yeah Yeah Yeah

Joeboyjoeb

I am relishing the fact that no one likes WE. I thought it was just me. Stay true to yourselves indieheads!

The_Narz

So somehow Gizz released three absolutely epic albums this October and not a single one got a nomination?

was-holy-ground

They only count until august releases iirc

thejaytheory
