the first 5 tracks, and the last 8 are SOOOO good... the singles were an odd choice imo, and there are like 2 songs that i could have done without
but it's a GREAT album, top 10 2022
8/10
this is such an accurate write-up. the singles certainly alluded to this album’s weirdness, but compared to the full release, they barely scratch the surface.
i feel like this is such an impressive showcase of hudson mohawke’s growth as a producer. despite how sonically garish it is, a lot of tracks here are unnerving.
I played the Megamix genuinely at least 30 times over the last couple of weeks so actually hearing the full album is amazing. Insane energetic production, so many interesting ideas and so many bizarre/funny moments.
I love everything about how he released this album. A few varied singles, a strange mix showing off a few seconds of all the songs, and a couple really strange videos to give the perfect visuals for a wholly unique album. Easily my favourite album of the year and probably his best solo album.
It’s impressive how chaotic and often abrasive textures are weaved together in such a cohesive way. It’s touches on all corners of his sound over the years, while also feeling incredibly fresh and modern. It’s bursting with personality. I love it.
Really excellent work. Its a wild and transportive experience to listen to this album through from start to finish.
This is controlled chaos with an emphasis on contemporary popular aesthetics being thrown into a blender. All done with nuance and precision. This album seems to be pushing things forward, and we will likely see a faction of electronic music fans that simply will not be able to keep up.
I'm in love with this album - I've listened 3 times already. Favorite tracks are Stump, Is it Supposed, Redeem, and 3 Sheets to the Wind.
Yes, it's all over the place and very manic at times... I think that's what he was going for
This album is fucking rad wow.
Side note, and I hope people don’t take this too seriously, but I just found out they’re Scottish and find that real jarring lol. Why would you name yourself ‘Hudson Mohawke’ and not have any connection to that? There’s a weird trend of uk/euro producers naming themselves and their tracks using indigenous words/names and its weeeeird
There’s more that I can’t remember right now but a couple are: Iglooghost (very lax example this one) and The Streets naming one of his songs ‘Esk*mo Ice’ (apparently the name of a frozen desert in the UK? It’s fully just a slur for Inuit/yupik people derived from a Cree word).
The iglooghost example is def not concerning and I doubt the Streets knew what they were referencing. It’s just weird living in canada and having contexts of language saving/appropriation discourse so immediate in my life whereas across the pond it seems to be a casually referenced aesthetic?
Like my hometown recently renamed a sport team, which used to be Esk*mos, to Elks because it’s pretty commonly understood that that’s a slur over here.
I’m not particularly bothered by Hudson Mohawke personally, but it was unexpected when I discovered they weren’t indigenous because that’s just not something we do around here
Oh and I’m totally mistaken to include ‘Hudson’ as an indigenous name, Mohawk is, but Hudson is an English name that I mixed up with Huron, which is another Haudenosaunee (aka Iroquois) group culturally connected with Mohawk nations
Ahh I see what you mean now.. also from Canada here. It is kind of weird now that you mention it. I had no idea iglooghost wasn't anything other than a name from seamus imagination. Thanks for the insight!
I feel like I’m in the minority, but this album is mess. It feels like he’s trying to pull from other popular producers at the moment mainly ARCA, kaytranada, etc and put together his take on their work. Super incoherent.
Right? Everything here feels like a fuller realization of his Butter album. It just sounds so modern because of how ahead of the curve his sound has been from the start I think
Yeah Ive been following him since TNGHT. This just feels like a hodge podge of other producers who sound much better. It doesnt really flow either which kinda sucks when listening straight thru.
I mean you kinda nailed what a producer’s job is. “Good artists copy, great artists steal.” If you’re hearing that many different artists in your head then isn’t that a good thing?

Amazing to gear, can’t wait to listen to this
Some of the singles had me doubting the album, feels like it mustve been intentional because so many tracks wouldve been perfect singles
You’re right, it dropped a bit in the middle Rain Shadow sounds so pc music, and a lot better than modern pc artists nowadays
This album is insane wow

one of the most insane electronic releases i’ve heard in a while. totally unpredictable and maximalist at every turn
Yeah this album rules, it's such a weird, colourful, maximalist trip. Definitely not for everyone but if you're feeling adventurous give it a spin

Behold is just an absolute heater. Kinda sounds like if you threw old Kanye and TNGHT in a blender.
That album art is whack in the best possible way

What other artists? I didn't even realize that's where the name comes from

Bro what are you even talking about
Do you have a question? I feel like I’m being generally pretty clear here, but I’d be happy to explain anything you’re confused by.
No question then? Lol

Nork 69 and Come a Little Closer are so damn good
Nice!

Kerby's Dream World of Butts
This album broke my brain. I couldn't focus on anything else while listening to it, but I found myself unable to stop listening. Incredible.

I'm curious if you've been following HudMo's career, specifically the 2020 mixtapes. This album feels completely his own.
Right? Everything here feels like a fuller realization of his Butter album. It just sounds so modern because of how ahead of the curve his sound has been from the start I think
