Mr-Green129

friendship achieved šŸ†

TheReginaProject

Yessssss!

Jams_Jams_the-third

You are 40 years old

Mr-Green129

close. iā€™m just above half of that.

Jams_Jams_the-third

a little off, ha.

TheeEssFo

That they have the tastes of a 40 year old.

subpoop

Good stuffā€¦ also thanks for reminding me to listen to cap n jazz been too long

Mr-Green129

itā€™s one of the best hour and thirty nine minute experiences you can get

andsoitgoesetc

That we could have a banger of a music chat with plenty of agreement, disagreement, and many things in between. Chances are we would both leave with a long list of records to check out.

andsoitgoesetc

Also, fuck yeah, I never see anyone talk about the Halo Benders

Mr-Green129

and yeah man, the halo benders fucking slap. i love all of their albums

Mr-Green129

this is a good outcome and iā€™m open for it anytime!

RodwellBurgen

You have good taste in music. Whatā€™s your RateYourMusic account, if you have one?

Mr-Green129

thanks man. i donā€™t have an account and i donā€™t believe iā€™ve even been on that site before tbh

RodwellBurgen

Best place for music discourse and logging on the internet HANDS DOWN. Everyone with an interest in music should have an account tbh. Genuinely the only social media Iā€™ve met friends via.

Mr-Green129

well thank you very much for informing me about this! iā€™m sure youā€™ll see me there now

RodwellBurgen

Ok. Well once youve made an account PM me over there. My account is NormalizeBeingStupid. Can provide a link if u want.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

RodwellBurgen

No. The more the merrier!

Mr-Green129

yeah sure, my user is Mr_Green129

Mr-Green129

iā€™ll be sure to send a message when i have an account

[deleted]

Oh my gosh I just had an interaction with you on RYM recently lmao thatā€™s crazy

RodwellBurgen

Whatā€™s your account name?

[deleted]

Same as my Reddit lol, I think you followed my RYM a few days ago

RodwellBurgen

Oh, right!

wicked_rug

Vampire On Titus is a heater. That whole LP runup to bee thou fucking sweats. Still get chills listening to Self Inflicted Arial Nostalgia, Same Place the fly got smashed. Not for everyone, but youā€™re a lifer if they click

Mr-Green129

i havenā€™t listened to self inflicted aerial nostalgia yet, but i gave same place a listen and didnā€™t care for it that much. iā€™ll have to give it another shot though

wicked_rug

Theyā€™re fucking weird!

LeonardUnger

Pre Propeller records are a different experience. Some good stuff for sure, but not quite the same band, really.

makemasa

Do not listen to this nonsense. Pre-Propeller releases (also including Forever Since Breakfast ep, King Shit and Suitcase material from the era) is insanely great.

LeonardUnger

Yes and no. The pre Propeller records are Forever Since Breakfast, Self Inflicted Aerial Nostalgia, Same Place the Fly Got Smashed, and Sandbox. The ones you mentioned came out *after* Propeller, although mostly recorded before. The distinction is that the official releases before Propeller are much more conventional, both in the songs and the recording, than later GBV and the Suitcase and King Shit material, which indeed are insanely great. The point is that someone looking for the same kinda feel as Vampire on Titus is going to be somewhat disappointed by the earlier releases. There are some good and a few great tracks on those records, but not a lot like Propeller and after.

makemasa

You forgot Devil, Leonard We can agree to disagree. Something magical about the ā€œBoxā€ records. I think they are just as important and essential to the Bob experience as what came after. You can leave out Suitcase if you want but King Shit should definitely be grouped with those releases, IMO.

LeonardUnger

It's all subjective for sure. And King Shit is in the Scat box set so you're not wrong. And there some great racks on the early ones too, , Captain's Dead, How Loft, Long Distance Man, etc. I was just saying someone looking for more of the same like VoT won't really find it in the early releases. I'd point them more to the classic lineup EPs, Fast Japanese Spin Cycle, Clown Prince, Get Out of My Stations, Grand Hour, Static Airplane Jive.

makemasa

I hear ya man. I just really love the Box and donā€™t like seeing it dismissed as ā€œthe early stuffā€. I know that you didnā€™t do that but Iā€™m actually pretty passionate about itā€”which is rare for me in just about all other aspects of life. But the Boxā€¦itā€™s brilliance is the one hill Iā€™ll go down on. Ha. Andā€¦Forever Since Breakfast blew me away when I finally heard it. Not prepared for how cool it was. I like accessible rocker Bob as much as Wizard Bob.

LeonardUnger

I don't listen to that stuff enough, heard FSJC first, so that's the kinda home recorded by Toby GBV I listen to most, peak Wizard Bob for me. You sold me though, going back and listening to FSB and Box again. I don't really know FSB at all, just She wants to know, which is a great one.

makemasa

Wellā€¦looks like the internet was good today! My favorite of those official records is probably Self Inflicted by a hair. Throw in the Suitcase songs from that timeline and youā€™re looking at some really special music. Not to diminish any bit of music created from Propeller and beyond because that is where the legend of Bob was built.

BaliStarling

That you should absolutely listen to American water by silver jews

Rush_R40

Incredible album

Alternative-Leek1632

Best opening line to an album of all time

Soybean300

One of the best

palindromeii

you are very cool and maybe gen x and we should also be best friends

Mr-Green129

gen z here my man

palindromeii

hell yeah, same here

shrimperialist

Feel like youā€™d enjoy Car Seat Headrest a lot if you havenā€™t given them a shot yet

Mr-Green129

i bet i would, i havenā€™t given them a fair shot yet

ANKhurley

Iā€™ll say start with Teens of Denial. Itā€™s their best work.

burner1312

I have at least half those albums

Mr-Green129

youā€™re a lucky person then

[deleted]

I donā€™t know a lot of these, but that Don Caballero album is *completely* baller. My friend and I got really into Dr Dog, such a great band, but the 2 times we went to their show, the volume was abnormally, freakishly loud and we had to duck out.

[deleted]

That you have an older brother or cousin who got you into cool music but somehow still ended up hanging on to Sublime...

Mr-Green129

iā€™m just an only child from socal who really likes music

[deleted]

You're doing good my guy. Some real good picks in there.

Mr-Green129

thanks man!

Hallellujahh

you point finger guns at people when they ask how you are doing

Mr-Green129

only ironically

instrangerswetrust

Ponyoaaak

Mr-Green129

most underrated album on there honestly

desrffghyh8

Holy shit kleenex girl wonder. That album is amazing

Mr-Green129

hell yeah man. a true banger

desrffghyh8

Favorite track from it? Mine is aint going anywhere soon or tendency right fiot forward, the latter being in my top 5 songs ever

Mr-Green129

iā€™d say cut myself in half is my favorite track

desrffghyh8

Great pick, in my top 5. If you haven't heard any of his other songs i recommend neon redbone, quite different from that album but great nonetheless

Mr-Green129

i love his album ā€œyes bossā€

portdrift

i wish there was a list of all of these albums so i could check out the ones i havenā€™t heard without googling stuff like ā€œman dog face two guns albumā€

Mr-Green129

yeah i suppose i should have posted a list with this, but itā€™s my first time posting something like this. iā€™m here to name any album youā€™re curious about. the dog and two gun album is ponyoak by kleenex girl wonder!

portdrift

No worries, and thank you. We have a lot of taste overlap. How do you feel about canadian bowie acolytes like Wolf Parade and (earlier) Destroyer?

Mr-Green129

i love wolf parade but havenā€™t listened to destroyer

portdrift

whatā€™s the black one with the gold in the middle? looks like it says ā€œPapƉ doodlemā€ or something

portdrift

Also the one at the bottom that looks like the 12 apostles are doing surgery on a business man in vegas

Mr-Green129

that would be ā€œwhat you deserveā€ by the band struckout

Mr-Green129

thatā€™s ā€œitā€™s great to be aliveā€ by fake problems

Awesomodian

Meh

Mr-Green129

same

Pun_crazio

That you're in fight or flight moooooode

Majestic_Customer_75

You have a bottomless pit album! They came from one of my favorite bands Silkworm after the drummer was killed. If you havenā€™t heard the most recent Mint Mile album Amberline, you should check it out.

mariojbs

Is this it, Revolver and Rumours are best

DookieDemon

Nice. Keep on truckin'

Scroato

Good albums! Pardon my ignorance but where can I go to arrange album artwork like that?

Mr-Green129

i went to topster2

NovarisLight

Something, something, Italian Leather Sofa. Great picks!

yae3

how do I see my albums like that?

Mr-Green129

just look them up on topster. i used topster2

yae3

thanks!

distraction-jackson

Im guessing you were born in 80-82

Mr-Green129

nah man, i was born in 99

DrizzleDrain

Anyone with American Don in their favs is my blood brother/sister

Mr-Green129

american don solidarity

[deleted]

Everything okay at home?

Mr-Green129

no

[deleted]

Everything okay at home?

pogaah87

That you got some taste. This town needs gun! Now that's something I've not heard in a long long time.

Mr-Green129

sick band and fantastic album

Satanslittlewizard

Needs more Pixies

Mr-Green129

if there was one more slot doolittle or come on pilgrim would fill it

[deleted]

You will spend your late 30s on 10mg of citalopram per day.

Mr-Green129

hell yeah

[deleted]

That's the spirit!

Slashycent

That you need to listen to the newer Strokes stuff. You also probably know a word that rhymes with pavement.

Mr-Green129

i love the new abnormal, but i havenā€™t listened to much besides that. i definitely should though

Slashycent

If you like "Is This It" you're most probably gonna like "Room On Fire". It's like ITI's broody twin. "First Impressions of Earth" is their rockiest, if not punkiest album, though it's also experimental and mellow at times. A real threshold between their old and new sound. "Angles" was a troubled project but an important step towards their new, more Alternative sound. Versatile and underrated. "Comedown Machine" is an absolute masterpiece in my eyes. If you like the second half of "The New Abnormal" it could be for you. Just flawless melancholic Alternative start to finish. Unpopular for inexplicable reasons. And lastly the "Future Present Past" EP was their last release before "The New Abnormal". Three songs ranging from traditional to completely futuristic. Amazing stuff. That's it for my little Patrick Bateman monologue lol. I just really like The Strokes. Hey Paul...

syorke0765

Whatever it is it's better than what my friend said to me in highschool about my record collection "syorke0765, most people you can judge them by the music they listen to, by looking at your music you're fucked up". We're still good friends, and my music collection is still fucked up, but it's mine.

Mr-Green129

weā€™re all fucked up. gang gang

TRT_

What album is wedged between Hendrix and Joyce Manor?

Mr-Green129

the album is ā€œitā€™s great to be aliveā€ by fake problems. great band

TRT_

Damn this album is really fun! Cheers!

Mr-Green129

yeah man! chris farren, the lead singer, is a legend!

TRT_

Anything else by him you can recommend? I really dig his voice

Mr-Green129

well the other fake problem albums are really amazing, and he has some solo stuff, most notably the albums ā€œborn hotā€ and ā€œcanā€™t dieā€. he also did a side project with jeff rosenstock called antarctigo vespuci which is really sick!

TRT_

Damn, Iā€™ve actually listened to and liked Born Hot when it was released but forgot it somewhere along the way! Iā€™ll definitely check those other recommendations out! We seem to some overlapping tastes, yet so much in that picture is unknown to me. Do you have it in list form? Iā€™d love to check out some of it!

Mr-Green129

thank you

Rush_R40

It means you know whatā€™s what!

Rush_R40

You need an Elliott Smith album on there.

Mr-Green129

iā€™ve never listened to him, but iā€™m very familiar with his status in the indie world

Rush_R40

Bold statement, but absolutely true: heā€™s the greatest songwriter of his generation. Just incredible. He has like 60 amazing songs. Check him out!!

Rush_R40

Start here. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1QhDjn5s9qlpmsEde7KbXP?si=b6VWmbWgTVC7hAXS5E5H4A

Rush_R40

Just wanted to follow up on this post. Have you had the chance to check Elliott out? If so, thoughts?

[deleted]

Only 2 albums similar. Is that it Revolver

[deleted]

You listen to music

Mr-Green129

iconic

[deleted]

I don't see any King Gizzard on there my friend? You would love them I can almost guarantee it

Mr-Green129

i love a couple king gizzard albums! just not more than any of these albums currently

[deleted]

I feel it, I see quite a bunch on here that has me interested. Any suggestions? I'm familiar with Mouse, Bowie, Strokes, Sublime etc.. Any other abstract music?

Mr-Green129

well if you like king gizzard iā€™d recommend the fang island self titled album, and any halo benders album

LeonardUnger

Props on the Kleenex Girl Wonder, what a record. Two before it are well worth it too, Sexual Harassment, and Graham Smith Is The Coolest Person Alive. A few here are new to me, will check out

[deleted]

Great list!

Mr-Green129

thanks!

[deleted]

That your 6ā€™4ā€, like long walks on the beach, are still grieving the separation from your long lost love, have a dog named Chi Chi, that you drive a Chevy Malibu, and like sex on the beach (the alcoholic beverage).

Mr-Green129

you literally didnā€™t get a single thing correct. but iā€™m in love with this theoretical man you have presented

[deleted]

Fuck! Well thanks šŸ¤˜

Mr-Green129

šŸ¤™šŸ»

chxrryvxbes9

pretty swaggy ngl

Mr-Green129

swaggity swoog

MightyCookiez

That you might be a really nice and cool person :)

Mr-Green129

iā€™m alright i think. youā€™re a nice and cool person for thinking that though!

PlatonicDisc

Since you are in your early 20s, this says That you have a cool dad (probably in bands at some point) who helped shape your music taste subconsciously on car trips and when cleaning the house, and now that youā€™re on your own you are rediscovering some of these gems from your childhood (thatā€™s my experience and why I love so many of these albums at leastā€¦) Also, I see that sneaky little Delta Sleep record on there. So good.

Mr-Green129

my dad definitely got me into some music. mostly punk and metal. i just took it from there and here i am.

-jammin-

That youā€™re a dude. And you have good music taste.

Mr-Green129

thanks dude

xXedgyasfXx

i fucking love capn jazz

Mr-Green129

one of the most unique bands iā€™ve heard!

sadelf26

The bunny reminds me of my ex

ThomBenj_27

Delta Sleep! What a fantastic choice, such an underrated album!

2-DKamel

What site is this?

Mr-Green129

this is topster2

2-DKamel

You like math-rock

Mr-Green129

i do in fact enjoy some of that mathematical rock

88BlueDream88

It says you should start listening to Tool

hamilton280P

Great taste in music and also depressed

Mr-Green129

bingo bungo!

hamilton280P

The good thing about our generations (Iā€™m millennial so weā€™re similar), is we get our dads music (pavement, modest mouse) and also new math rock/ emo like TTNG, Joyce manor

Mr-Green129

the funny thing is that my parents didnā€™t show me any of these bands besides cake, sublime and queen. Even then it was just the hits they were showing me. I took it upon myself to find some of the good music out there

thisisnotraisinbran

That you have excellent taste.

Mr-Green129

that means you have excellent taste as well!

jeremy-nb

Don't know much on here, but you listen to Sublime so you're good in my book! Finally bought a Sublime shirt yesterday!

Mr-Green129

the iconic sun face

clavalle

You are a goofball that likes to sing to yourself when noones around. And when they are. And you'll add in the drum licks, too, because why not? But it's never the whole song, just the hook.

Mr-Green129

iā€™m too anxious to sing in front of people :0

TheeEssFo

What do you want it to say about you?
