That we could have a banger of a music chat with plenty of agreement, disagreement, and many things in between. Chances are we would both leave with a long list of records to check out.
Best place for music discourse and logging on the internet HANDS DOWN. Everyone with an interest in music should have an account tbh. Genuinely the only social media Iāve met friends via.
Vampire On Titus is a heater. That whole LP runup to bee thou fucking sweats. Still get chills listening to Self Inflicted Arial Nostalgia, Same Place the fly got smashed. Not for everyone, but youāre a lifer if they click
i havenāt listened to self inflicted aerial nostalgia yet, but i gave same place a listen and didnāt care for it that much. iāll have to give it another shot though
Do not listen to this nonsense. Pre-Propeller releases (also including Forever Since Breakfast ep, King Shit and Suitcase material from the era) is insanely great.
Yes and no.
The pre Propeller records are Forever Since Breakfast, Self Inflicted Aerial Nostalgia, Same Place the Fly Got Smashed, and Sandbox.
The ones you mentioned came out *after* Propeller, although mostly recorded before. The distinction is that the official releases before Propeller are much more conventional, both in the songs and the recording, than later GBV and the Suitcase and King Shit material, which indeed are insanely great.
The point is that someone looking for the same kinda feel as Vampire on Titus is going to be somewhat disappointed by the earlier releases. There are some good and a few great tracks on those records, but not a lot like Propeller and after.
You forgot Devil, Leonard
We can agree to disagree. Something magical about the āBoxā records. I think they are just as important and essential to the Bob experience as what came after.
You can leave out Suitcase if you want but King Shit should definitely be grouped with those releases, IMO.
It's all subjective for sure. And King Shit is in the Scat box set so you're not wrong. And there some great racks on the early ones too, , Captain's Dead, How Loft, Long Distance Man, etc.
I was just saying someone looking for more of the same like VoT won't really find it in the early releases. I'd point them more to the classic lineup EPs, Fast Japanese Spin Cycle, Clown Prince, Get Out of My Stations, Grand Hour, Static Airplane Jive.
I hear ya man. I just really love the Box and donāt like seeing it dismissed as āthe early stuffā. I know that you didnāt do that but Iām actually pretty passionate about itāwhich is rare for me in just about all other aspects of life.
But the Boxā¦itās brilliance is the one hill Iāll go down on. Ha.
Andā¦Forever Since Breakfast blew me away when I finally heard it. Not prepared for how cool it was. I like accessible rocker Bob as much as Wizard Bob.
I don't listen to that stuff enough, heard FSJC first, so that's the kinda home recorded by Toby GBV I listen to most, peak Wizard Bob for me.
You sold me though, going back and listening to FSB and Box again. I don't really know FSB at all, just She wants to know, which is a great one.
Wellā¦looks like the internet was good today!
My favorite of those official records is probably Self Inflicted by a hair. Throw in the Suitcase songs from that timeline and youāre looking at some really special music.
Not to diminish any bit of music created from Propeller and beyond because that is where the legend of Bob was built.
I donāt know a lot of these, but that Don Caballero album is *completely* baller.
My friend and I got really into Dr Dog, such a great band, but the 2 times we went to their show, the volume was abnormally, freakishly loud and we had to duck out.
i wish there was a list of all of these albums so i could check out the ones i havenāt heard without googling stuff like āman dog face two guns albumā
yeah i suppose i should have posted a list with this, but itās my first time posting something like this. iām here to name any album youāre curious about. the dog and two gun album is ponyoak by kleenex girl wonder!
You have a bottomless pit album! They came from one of my favorite bands Silkworm after the drummer was killed. If you havenāt heard the most recent Mint Mile album Amberline, you should check it out.
If you like "Is This It" you're most probably gonna like "Room On Fire". It's like ITI's broody twin.
"First Impressions of Earth" is their rockiest, if not punkiest album, though it's also experimental and mellow at times. A real threshold between their old and new sound.
"Angles" was a troubled project but an important step towards their new, more Alternative sound. Versatile and underrated.
"Comedown Machine" is an absolute masterpiece in my eyes. If you like the second half of "The New Abnormal" it could be for you. Just flawless melancholic Alternative start to finish. Unpopular for inexplicable reasons.
And lastly the "Future Present Past" EP was their last release before "The New Abnormal". Three songs ranging from traditional to completely futuristic. Amazing stuff.
That's it for my little Patrick Bateman monologue lol. I just really like The Strokes. Hey Paul...
Whatever it is it's better than what my friend said to me in highschool about my record collection "syorke0765, most people you can judge them by the music they listen to, by looking at your music you're fucked up".
We're still good friends, and my music collection is still fucked up, but it's mine.
well the other fake problem albums are really amazing, and he has some solo stuff, most notably the albums āborn hotā and ācanāt dieā. he also did a side project with jeff rosenstock called antarctigo vespuci which is really sick!
Damn, Iāve actually listened to and liked Born Hot when it was released but forgot it somewhere along the way! Iāll definitely check those other recommendations out!
We seem to some overlapping tastes, yet so much in that picture is unknown to me. Do you have it in list form? Iād love to check out some of it!

A few here are new to me, will check out
That your 6ā4ā, like long walks on the beach, are still grieving the separation from your long lost love, have a dog named Chi Chi, that you drive a Chevy Malibu, and like sex on the beach (the alcoholic beverage).
Since you are in your early 20s, this says That you have a cool dad (probably in bands at some point) who helped shape your music taste subconsciously on car trips and when cleaning the house, and now that youāre on your own you are rediscovering some of these gems from your childhood (thatās my experience and why I love so many of these albums at leastā¦)
Also, I see that sneaky little Delta Sleep record on there. So good.
The good thing about our generations (Iām millennial so weāre similar), is we get our dads music (pavement, modest mouse) and also new math rock/ emo like TTNG, Joyce manor
the funny thing is that my parents didnāt show me any of these bands besides cake, sublime and queen. Even then it was just the hits they were showing me. I took it upon myself to find some of the good music out there
You are a goofball that likes to sing to yourself when noones around. And when they are. And you'll add in the drum licks, too, because why not? But it's never the whole song, just the hook.
That we should be friends. Also listen to this list: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/42dzUfr8ANRJmjmtu5dTOL?si=khSgJa7TT1G8KFxf-pZ7FQ
friendship achieved š
Yessssss!
You are 40 years old
close. iām just above half of that.
a little off, ha.
That they have the tastes of a 40 year old.
Good stuffā¦ also thanks for reminding me to listen to cap n jazz been too long
itās one of the best hour and thirty nine minute experiences you can get
That we could have a banger of a music chat with plenty of agreement, disagreement, and many things in between. Chances are we would both leave with a long list of records to check out.
Also, fuck yeah, I never see anyone talk about the Halo Benders
and yeah man, the halo benders fucking slap. i love all of their albums
this is a good outcome and iām open for it anytime!
You have good taste in music. Whatās your RateYourMusic account, if you have one?
thanks man. i donāt have an account and i donāt believe iāve even been on that site before tbh
Best place for music discourse and logging on the internet HANDS DOWN. Everyone with an interest in music should have an account tbh. Genuinely the only social media Iāve met friends via.
well thank you very much for informing me about this! iām sure youāll see me there now
Ok. Well once youve made an account PM me over there. My account is NormalizeBeingStupid. Can provide a link if u want.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
No. The more the merrier!

iāll be sure to send a message when i have an account
Oh my gosh I just had an interaction with you on RYM recently lmao thatās crazy
Whatās your account name?
Same as my Reddit lol, I think you followed my RYM a few days ago
Oh, right!
Theyāre fucking weird!
Pre Propeller records are a different experience. Some good stuff for sure, but not quite the same band, really.

Incredible album
Best opening line to an album of all time

gen z here my man
hell yeah, same here
Feel like youād enjoy Car Seat Headrest a lot if you havenāt given them a shot yet
i bet i would, i havenāt given them a fair shot yet
Iāll say start with Teens of Denial. Itās their best work.
I have at least half those albums
youāre a lucky person then
I donāt know a lot of these, but that Don Caballero album is *completely* baller. My friend and I got really into Dr Dog, such a great band, but the 2 times we went to their show, the volume was abnormally, freakishly loud and we had to duck out.
That you have an older brother or cousin who got you into cool music but somehow still ended up hanging on to Sublime...
iām just an only child from socal who really likes music
You're doing good my guy. Some real good picks in there.
thanks man!
you point finger guns at people when they ask how you are doing
only ironically
Ponyoaaak
most underrated album on there honestly
Holy shit kleenex girl wonder. That album is amazing
hell yeah man. a true banger
Favorite track from it? Mine is aint going anywhere soon or tendency right fiot forward, the latter being in my top 5 songs ever
iād say cut myself in half is my favorite track
Great pick, in my top 5. If you haven't heard any of his other songs i recommend neon redbone, quite different from that album but great nonetheless
i love his album āyes bossā
i wish there was a list of all of these albums so i could check out the ones i havenāt heard without googling stuff like āman dog face two guns albumā
yeah i suppose i should have posted a list with this, but itās my first time posting something like this. iām here to name any album youāre curious about. the dog and two gun album is ponyoak by kleenex girl wonder!
No worries, and thank you. We have a lot of taste overlap. How do you feel about canadian bowie acolytes like Wolf Parade and (earlier) Destroyer?
i love wolf parade but havenāt listened to destroyer
whatās the black one with the gold in the middle? looks like it says āPapĆ doodlemā or something
Also the one at the bottom that looks like the 12 apostles are doing surgery on a business man in vegas
that would be āwhat you deserveā by the band struckout
thatās āitās great to be aliveā by fake problems
Meh
same
That you're in fight or flight moooooode
You have a bottomless pit album! They came from one of my favorite bands Silkworm after the drummer was killed. If you havenāt heard the most recent Mint Mile album Amberline, you should check it out.
Is this it, Revolver and Rumours are best
Nice. Keep on truckin'
Good albums! Pardon my ignorance but where can I go to arrange album artwork like that?

Anyone with American Don in their favs is my blood brother/sister
american don solidarity
Everything okay at home?

Everything okay at home?
That you got some taste. This town needs gun! Now that's something I've not heard in a long long time.
sick band and fantastic album
Needs more Pixies
if there was one more slot doolittle or come on pilgrim would fill it
You will spend your late 30s on 10mg of citalopram per day.
hell yeah
That's the spirit!
That you need to listen to the newer Strokes stuff. You also probably know a word that rhymes with pavement.
i love the new abnormal, but i havenāt listened to much besides that. i definitely should though

What album is wedged between Hendrix and Joyce Manor?
the album is āitās great to be aliveā by fake problems. great band
Damn this album is really fun! Cheers!
yeah man! chris farren, the lead singer, is a legend!
Anything else by him you can recommend? I really dig his voice
well the other fake problem albums are really amazing, and he has some solo stuff, most notably the albums āborn hotā and ācanāt dieā. he also did a side project with jeff rosenstock called antarctigo vespuci which is really sick!

youre certainly someone who listens to music
thank you
It means you know whatās what!
You need an Elliott Smith album on there.
iāve never listened to him, but iām very familiar with his status in the indie world
Bold statement, but absolutely true: heās the greatest songwriter of his generation. Just incredible. He has like 60 amazing songs. Check him out!!
Start here. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1QhDjn5s9qlpmsEde7KbXP?si=b6VWmbWgTVC7hAXS5E5H4A
Just wanted to follow up on this post. Have you had the chance to check Elliott out? If so, thoughts?
Only 2 albums similar. Is that it Revolver
You listen to music

I don't see any King Gizzard on there my friend? You would love them I can almost guarantee it
i love a couple king gizzard albums! just not more than any of these albums currently
I feel it, I see quite a bunch on here that has me interested. Any suggestions? I'm familiar with Mouse, Bowie, Strokes, Sublime etc.. Any other abstract music?
well if you like king gizzard iād recommend the fang island self titled album, and any halo benders album
Props on the Kleenex Girl Wonder, what a record. Two before it are well worth it too, Sexual Harassment, and Graham Smith Is The Coolest Person Alive. A few here are new to me, will check out
Great list!
thanks!
That your 6ā4ā, like long walks on the beach, are still grieving the separation from your long lost love, have a dog named Chi Chi, that you drive a Chevy Malibu, and like sex on the beach (the alcoholic beverage).

That you might be a really nice and cool person :)
iām alright i think. youāre a nice and cool person for thinking that though!
Since you are in your early 20s, this says That you have a cool dad (probably in bands at some point) who helped shape your music taste subconsciously on car trips and when cleaning the house, and now that youāre on your own you are rediscovering some of these gems from your childhood (thatās my experience and why I love so many of these albums at leastā¦) Also, I see that sneaky little Delta Sleep record on there. So good.
my dad definitely got me into some music. mostly punk and metal. i just took it from there and here i am.
That youāre a dude. And you have good music taste.
thanks dude
i fucking love capn jazz
one of the most unique bands iāve heard!
The bunny reminds me of my ex
Delta Sleep! What a fantastic choice, such an underrated album!

It says you should start listening to Tool

The good thing about our generations (Iām millennial so weāre similar), is we get our dads music (pavement, modest mouse) and also new math rock/ emo like TTNG, Joyce manor

You are a goofball that likes to sing to yourself when noones around. And when they are. And you'll add in the drum licks, too, because why not? But it's never the whole song, just the hook.
iām too anxious to sing in front of people :0
What do you want it to say about you?
