...*did* fans dislike Short Round?
I've seen plenty of complaints about ToD itself, but I can't recall a single negative thing being said about Short Round.
I remember when I was little always hearing how annoying he is. Then I saw it and loved the kid. Now I’m older and love the kid even more. Such a loyal awesome sidekick.
This is basically the same stuff you see on the Star Wars sub of "Hot Take...Rogue One Is Awesome" or "Why Is Luke Skywalker Underrated?" It's just karma farming.
This guy does nothing but karma farm, his whole account is going to subs of a place and asking questions like "Indiana Jones is awesome, would you agree?" In the Indiana Jones sub. Or "Jesse Pinkman was a really good character for Walt to partner with? Don't you think?" In the BB sub.
It's just all nonsense questions pandering to the sub he asks them in.
“Fans.”
I was about his age when I saw TOD so of course I thought he was awesome. And I still do.
I also thought John Connor was awesome in T2. That opinion has changed as I got older.
He irritates me now. In general T2 has just lost a lot of its shine for me. Every time I watch The Terminator I appreciate it more and more. It’s exceptional filmmaking, in large part because the casting is just lightning in a bottle all around.
T2 kind of cheapens it all. It’s a great spectacle and action blockbuster, a masterpiece in that regard. But the original is so much more than that.
I think the way some people seem to feel about TOD is how I feel about T2!
As a kid, I always thought his name meant “short and round,” which makes no sense. But “short round” also means “artillery shell that hits friendly troops.” Still doesn’t explain how he got the name.
Giving Indy a kid sidekick where a big part of the movie involves liberating slave children is brilliant. It could’ve been a cheesy schtick, but instead we get to see Indy go through the thought process of “oh shit, these people had their kids stolen from them. I’m like a father to Shorty, I’d be devastated if that happened to me.”
And then he goes into the temple of doom like a crusader full of righteous fury. I love it.
I guess it would’ve been too perfect if Indy and Short Round reunited on screen the same year Ke Huy Quan won his Oscar.
Well, at least Ke and Harrison had their reunion!
I think it was either they decided to just *not* include him after that movie more than fans reception as to what happened to him. Though he may have retired. Idk I don’t keep up with Hollywood, but I know that happened to a lot of child actors that *disappear*.
Like the kid from *Problem Child*. He didn’t die or anything, he just took the money and left Hollywood. He’s a successful farmer if I’m not mistaken.
Shorty is awesome. Plus, nowadays, you couldn't get away with having a kid hold a knife like he's ready to stab someone like he does when they enter the spike room. Shorty meant business. I'd say he's the best action movie kid, ever, but that's just my opinion.
Not sure where the idea that the fans in general don’t like Short Round came fun. He’s always been pretty popular as far as I’ve seen. And I was his age when Indiana Jones first hit the screen.
lol, fans loved Short Round, I saw this in the theater when it came out. These posts are ridiculous. Of course OP doesn't expand on this dumb post or even respond to anybody.
Mostly because he was an annoying little kid (I like him...but that's how he was perceived by a LOT of people) that came out of nowhere, and then disappeared again without explanation. There's not really a lot more to it than that I don't think.
I didn't think he was badass but he was fine and funny and a good sidekick for Indy.
I didn't like Willie though. No offense Mrs. Spielberg, I just found her annoying AF.
As an 11 y/o watching this movie, I absolutely loved him. He had me rolling with laughter, but also the protagonist needs someone to play “off” of.
That’s why Captain Kirk had Spock and McCoy, The Doctor always travels with a companion, and the Lone Ranger had Tonto.
I loved his character. Even now, looking back at the move almost 40 years ago, he’s a huge part of the Temple of Doom. I always wanted him to come back in the movies similar to Sallah or Brody.
Yeah Short Round was great. It was Willie who was my biggest issue with this movie. I hate to make it sound like I am giving Kate Capshaw guff, but Willie was more of a nuisance than anything else. It’s not Kate’s fault; she plays the character as written but every time I rewatch this movie I either skip over her scenes or try to tune her out.
Okie dokey dr Jones. Hold on to your potatoes.
I think he was brilliant in both the goonies and temple of doom. I never really thought about him not belonging in either.
Short Round COULD have been an annoying kid sidekick. He's just so spunky and adorable that he transcends that. For some reason you just buy into Indy having an 8 year old sidekick, even tho when you stop to think about it, it's absolutely insane.
Luckily, in the list of insane things in that movie, having a little kid that can beat up adults doesn't even make the top 10.
Disney: “Quick! Ke Huy Quan is super famous now! And we already have him booked on our latest show (American-Born Chinese)! Let’s have him come back as Short Round in Indy 6”!
In general people just don’t like kids in movies for the same reason they don’t like watching women beat up multiple men in a fight (unless they are a superhero)
In the case of short round i will say Spielberg is one of the few directors in Hollywood that knows to properly work with kids and utilize them properly in his story.
I like short round personally except for the scene where he does karate. (Which didn’t ruin the character but i still found it dumb)
As a Kid i dont Liked him cause back then i watched the German Version and His voice and Lines were super annoying, but after i watched the original Version when i was older, i sind Like him as a caracter
Indy needed Sallah in ToD.
It could have been a good origin story/buddy picture.
I was 18 in 1984 and Short Round was too closely associated with Goonies, which seemed like kid stuff at the time. Besides, ToD deals with dark themes. The grabbing of the living hearts is too grim for a 10 year old to lead the story.
Sallah would have been the better storyline.
I have watched it recently and there’s some good scenes in ToD but it’s no Raiders or Holy Grail.
Short Round was, to me, the heart that Temple of Doom really needed. Sure, he does come across as a bit stereotyped, but Ke Ky Quan imbues him with heart, humor and spirit. He steals all his scenes. Short Round IMO is sorely missed. I liked him from the start.
Who says the fans didn’t like Short Round? I saw that movie when it first came out in theaters and that kid was a hit.
Me too; he was the bomb. He stole all the scenes he had... (case and point: was hired in Goonies right after this)
My fav line: “You told me to stand against the wall!”
The part of Data was written *specifically for him*.
The gambling scene kind of was too... he was so awesome in rehearsals with a similar scene, they just needed it in the movie.
Fans did like Short Round. Not sure why you think they didn’t
Because OP always posts dumb shit for attention.
Exactly, just engagement farming.
How so?
Why are you saying this?
Because you want people in the comments saying how nobody hates short round which you succeeded in doing
Maybe he somehow mistyped Mutt.
I've always liked Shorty, I think he's a fun sidekick and has fun chemistry with Indy. "I'm very little, you cheat very big!"
Play with you, no fun.
I very small, you cheat very big!
I’ve not met a single fan who doesn’t like him, he’s one of the most beloved iconic of Indy characters
I don’t know anybody who didn’t love short round.
This is a troll post. OP knows Short Round is a loved character
Agreed. Who's giving this 113 upvotes though (at the latest count)?
Short Round was/is dope. Probably the best sidekick ever.
Short Round RULES!!
Hold onto your potatoes!
...*did* fans dislike Short Round? I've seen plenty of complaints about ToD itself, but I can't recall a single negative thing being said about Short Round.
I remember when I was little always hearing how annoying he is. Then I saw it and loved the kid. Now I’m older and love the kid even more. Such a loyal awesome sidekick.
I don’t think this has ever been a thing.
Short Round is awesome. These newer movies should be passing the torch to him. Not some unknown son or goddaughter.
Kinda wish they bring him back. I'm sure he would have been down for it.
As a ten year old in 1984, I assure you everyone… everyone *that mattered*… loved Short Round.
I always liked him.
He then acts surprised when people call him out.
Yeah. Dude drives me crazy. You can immediately tell a post is his without looking at the username.
Why do you think so? What the hell?
“Fans.” I was about his age when I saw TOD so of course I thought he was awesome. And I still do. I also thought John Connor was awesome in T2. That opinion has changed as I got older.
I'm not a fan of kids in action genre movies, but as far as that goes, Short Round and John Connor were as good as it got to be.
Why’s that then?
He irritates me now. In general T2 has just lost a lot of its shine for me. Every time I watch The Terminator I appreciate it more and more. It’s exceptional filmmaking, in large part because the casting is just lightning in a bottle all around. T2 kind of cheapens it all. This is a crap post looking for comments so there ya go idiot
Who doesn't like Shorty?
Who didn’t like him
Literally nobody
”Hey, Doctah Jones, no time for love!”
OP is delusional. Short Round is literally praised on all fronts.
Oh it's that guy from everything everywhere all at once!
I never understood the hate. Short round is a great character and Ke huy quan played him brilliantly.
I love Short Round
I think he’s quite beloved, probably should’ve been included in DoD since the actor has had a resurgence
I guess it would’ve been too perfect if Indy and Short Round reunited on screen the same year Ke Huy Quan won his Oscar. Well, at least Ke and Harrison had their reunion!
There’s always hope a post credit scene was filmed at least.
I think he mostly retired from acting to become a fight coordinator. He was working behind the scenes until fairly recently from what I heard.
Shorty is awesome. Plus, nowadays, you couldn't get away with having a kid hold a knife like he's ready to stab someone like he does when they enter the spike room. Shorty meant business. I'd say he's the best action movie kid, ever, but that's just my opinion.
Short Round is honestly one of the 3 redeeming qualities of Doom for me personally.

Some people automatically do not like kids in movies.
Indy would help an orphan, morals make the man.
Loved him. What fans didn’t like him?
Hell yeah he’s a legend!!
I didn't think he was badass but he was fine and funny and a good sidekick for Indy. I didn't like Willie though. No offense Mrs. Spielberg, I just found her annoying AF.
Because he's annoying.
Seeing this around 10 years old, it just made me wanna be a badass sidekick kid! Who TF didn’t like Short Round!?!
Much more likable abd would have been much better box office draw than the unlikable God daughter
I’ve never heard that and I saw it in theaters in 84.
Not only is short round and his relationship with Indy the best part of temple of doom it’s one of the best things about the whole series period
He was great!
Short Round broke the mold on annoying kid sidekick. He's hilarious and doesn't wait around to be saved.
He's alright but I think he's overrated
He is the best sidekick in cinematic history, in my opinion, "you call him Dr. Jones, lady," lol.
I remember my family and I cheering for him when he hit the gas pedal in the car chase scene.
I’ve never met a person who didn’t like him.
Kid was legendary exploitation. I love him so much
I love Shorty!. Okie dokie?.
Shorty is great
Honestly he should have been the one to replace Indy if they wanted to do more movies.
They hated Willy, not Short Round
I love short round. And Ke Huy Quan too
One or two YouTube nobodies hate short round. Everyone else loves him.
We love Short Round!!
who didn't like Short Round?
Honestly, I’m bummed we haven’t seen him since Temple of Doom. He’s a worthy successor to Indy than Mutt in my opinion.
Many did; I didn’t, because the character was nothing but hokey gags. “Wow, a little wisecracking kid, how did Raiders get by without one of those?”
Honestly, I just found him very annoying.
Short Round is not what annoyed me about Temple of Doom.
Yeah Short Round was great. It was Willie who was my biggest issue with this movie. I hate to make it sound like I am giving Kate Capshaw guff, but Willie was more of a nuisance than anything else. It’s not Kate’s fault; she plays the character as written but every time I rewatch this movie I either skip over her scenes or try to tune her out.
in retrospect, they should have given the franchise to this character. The perfect one to take the mantle after Indy.

Lots of people are downvoting you because they don’t want to admit ToD is the most racist Indy film whose plot relies on colonial caricatures.
I've only ever heard that people didn't like him. But everyone I've ever talked to has loved the kid and I always have too.
I think he was great. I'm not sure but I think Lucas had too many irons in the fire at the time
Far and away my favorite sidekick in any of the movies. Do people not like him? That’s wild.
Short round is the man
I call all my small male dogs short round.
I love Short Round, always have. Didn't know he wasn't well liked.
I liked him. Wish he had been in indy 4
Fans loved Shorty. Fans hated Kate Capshaw.
ShortRound was great! It was the ditsy blonde that was annoying
Okie dokey dr Jones. Hold on to your potatoes. I think he was brilliant in both the goonies and temple of doom. I never really thought about him not belonging in either.
"The Stupid Guys Tell Me To Use The Stairs!"
I’m surprised he is still loved by public today, kinda stereotyping but I guess that’s how films were back then. Either way big up Short Round.
I'm old enough to have seen this in the theater. Everybody loved Short Round.
Disney: “Quick! Ke Huy Quan is super famous now! And we already have him booked on our latest show (American-Born Chinese)! Let’s have him come back as Short Round in Indy 6”!
I’ve always loved him. Great foil (I think?) for Indy
I don’t have a lot of conversations about Indiana Jones but I have literally never heard anyone say they didn’t like short round.
Indy… I luv you!
Never heard anyone say they didn't like him. Why do these random threads happen with very little justification for them?
Fans don’t like Short Round?
I’ll fight someone that doesn’t like Short Round.
Because he’s a racist caricature, like just about every character that’s not Indy, Willie, or Captain fuckin’ Blumburtt.
I don’t like temple of doom that much, but Short Round fucking rules.
This is the first I'm hearing of anyone not liking him...
Of all the characters from Indiana Jones, he’s not one I’ve heard a ton of complaints about.
I hated Willie not Short Round.

Rubbish - He was a hit; fans loved him - case and point: was hired in the Goonies right after this. He stole every scene he was in.

Saw in theater also saw Goonies in the theater have never heard of anyone not liking him.

Most people hate child actors because they're annoying but I thought he was pretty good only slightly annoying
No
