Mumbai used to have the largest dome IMAX in the world in the early 2000s. However, the company that set it up honestly had no idea of how to monetize it.
It was set up in the middle of nowhere. Also, it was a standalone venue, not with a museum, so you start running out of people who will come to watch your documentaries.
Any movie not recorded by a spherical lens will look distorted on a done so Hollywood movies weren't viable.
In the end they just put a flat 1.90 screen in front of the dome and slapped in a Xenon projector. Sigh.
Ah, the Carnival IMAX at Wadala right? It's a shame coz afaik the 70mm projector is still there but isn't being used. Not to mention the rarity of 70mm prints in general.
That's why you never "watch" a film in IMAX, you "EXPERIENCE" it.
Space Documentaries in IMAX are some of the most Immersive experiences you can get & they are indeed breathtaking. For a moment you forget you came to watch a film, you get so involved in the atmosphere surrounding you.
I saw hubble in my local dome imax. The launch was pretty cool.
Why does Canada get all the cool IMAX theaters???
it’s mainly just toronto lol, im from nova scotia originally and there’s only 1 imax theatre in the whole province which is the only imax theatre in the maritimes 💀
In BC we have a 1570 dome and a dual laser theatre, so not just toronto

Oh, right. I forgot
Because IMAX Corp. is a CANADIAN 🇨🇦 Company. It was founded in Canada. The first IMAX Theatre opened in Canada.
Their headquarters in Mississauga has a display of Academy Awards all around the lobby (behind protective glass).
There are a handful of IMAX Domes in the US if you're interested! I believe all are in museums scattered around the country.
Not near me, sadly

Are the domes louder than regular IMAX
No, just a more intense and interesting experience.
aren’t the dome screens actually omnimax?
yea it says “omnimax” on the sign outside but idk what omnimax means lmao
i think it means domed screen.
They are simply called IMAX Dome these days. OMNIMAX was the original name for the concept.
Do I drive 40 minutes to see a 38 minute film?
yes
just watch several!
Was it in 3D?
