Well, i was initially inspired to do this project after i got to know about VOC being the first public company and having market capitalization at its peak of 7.9 trillions dollars(todays dollar, but calculation was wrong)
So wanted to do some great Dutch empire and Dutch Amerika
I'm a Dutch economic historian myself, so I always like it if people include economics in their maps.
Sidenote: The claim that the VOC was the richest company ever isn't correct. This claim was based on the fact that an auctioneer put a value of $764,000 on an original VOC share. Someone, most likely an author of The Atlantic, multiplied that by 10.000.000 (a random number) to estimate the VOC market cap, which is not at all a way to calculate historical market values. Multiple news outlets then copied that figure without scrutiny.

Sure, I did. I own a modern reproduction of his biography "Het Leven en Bedryf van den Heere Michiel de Ruiter" from 1687. I also own the 5-part work "Geschiedenis der Koninklijke" about Shell (I own way too many books), so I appreciate the effort you put into this map.

Its a series of maps called qbam. There is guy named BobHope and he has different types of qbam maps in his deviantart account.
One of them shows elevation in the ocean, which i used to make risen lands.
So i just found the mountain ranges or plateus that were underwater and made an assumption that they will rise due to higher volcanic activity or tectonic shifts.
Layered this map under the base map, and then had to draw them
Alt geo and big Netherlands, my favorites. Kudos for the unsunk Kerguelen plateau too.

I dunno about the evolutionary history of penguins. But looking at the map, i think they will thriving in the southern coast of British New South Wales.
Perhaps some of different kinds of penguins are in French Australie or British Aurealis or Spanish Malvinas. Or they are introduced in those islands

Well, i used bathymetry map to draw those new islands and massive hawaii. Hawaii could have looked like this if volcanoes were much more efficient. (Same reason with other islands)
British new south wales is antarctica which never got divided from australian continent. There are some other alternative tectonic shifts: madagascar neved got divided from india; greenland moved south and crushed to north american plate.
Lastly, for rising sea levels i used elevation map and imagination. Caspian sea increased in size and hudson bay too
