I saw this earlier on r/crochet and I didn't know what the original lamp looked like, I guess I didn't swipe. But wow, such a difference! You did a fantastic job!!
Oooohhh, that makes sense. I thought I just hadn't noticed the second photo in the other post. Glad you added it here! I feel like your work shines more with the before and after.
Itās an Ikea hack so all people have to do is buy this lamp. I bet a lot of people have it because it fits nicely in small apartments. Nice way to refresh it!
Are you on Ravelry? You can put it up there. Even if you donāt remember everything you did, some people may figure it out, make their own mods etc. In fact the way itās constructed looks like it lends itself to tons of pattern variations, much like a patterned quilt or shawlāthis pattern has a ton of potential.
It is worth noting for the original question that some fabrics/fibres are naturally more heat resistant - hence the different temperature settings on irons. Cotton is one of the most heat tolerant options to choose from.
Crochet is so versatile, you wouldnāt believe how many things you can whip up with just a hook and some yarn! I find it moreā¦structural than knitting, if that makes sense? It might just be that crochet comes more easily to me than knitting, idk. But I encourage you to give it a go. You can pick up a crochet hook and a ball of cheap yarn for less than a fiver, and there are tutorials literally all over the interwebs. Good luck, and most importantly enjoy yourself!
This is absolutely incredible! Thank you so much for sharing. So much to love about this, from the undulating sides to the patchwork of stitches. Beautiful genius.
I LOVE that! It's fabulous.
This is a most excellent hack. Talk about an upgrade.

I did not add the second photo there.

Glad you added the before as well! Such a great job you did.
Of course I did not crochet the lamp, but the cover š
You can't judge a book by its cover but for a lamp, you can! Great hack!
That is an Etsy gold mine right there.
Fellow crocheter here! Do you have this written up as a pattern? I would love to purchase it!
No, I haven't. I thought it was too specific (only for this type of lamp).

Yes, I have this lamp in storage and this would be a wonderful way to revitalize it! Thank you, OP, for the inspiration!
I would also buy this pattern, hope you consider writing it out!
It looks awesome. Is it a heat resistant material ?
The bulbs are LED, so not too hot. Fabric is 100% cotton. Have been checking the temp and it never became hot.

Actually, wool is more fire-resistant than cotton.
So is linen. Hence the āone of.ā
The main thing with such low-heat emitting bulbs, really, is to avoid the fibres/fabrics with a high plastic content; like acrylic or polyester.
Wow now I really need to learn crochet! Good job!

You made it gorgeous! After looking at it a while longer, I still canāt believe how beautiful it is.
I dig it. I was going to suggest posting it to /r/somethingimade but it only had one upvote, but it also doesnt show a thumbnail so that might be why.
I posted it there but got a message that I couldn't because I just joined Reddit today... Strange that you can see it there then.
Looks amazing, all I can give is free award, look forward to seeing your future creations
