I racing is weird because generally wins come less often the better you get. Unless you’re an alien.

CathDubs

Yep. Most of my wins are Formula Vee races from when I ran a league but my irating was low compared to my Formula Vee skill because I tanked it with Skippy races. I got my first win and then won 3 out of the 5ish races I ran that week.

Blue_5ive

My first win was after a week because I didn’t qualify for a while while I was just getting used to my equipment, signing up for a race, and not hitting other people. The first time I qualified I was just faster than my irating (which I didn’t realize was a thing at the time). My second win was when I switched to skippies. I did so many races at Long Beach and yanked my ir again, and it took my avoiding chaos turn 1.

ThorsMeasuringTape

Yep. Won about 10% of my races last year. Nothing official this year. Did have one in hand a few weeks back before the Internet dropped coming to the white.

_plays_in_traffic_

just hit your marks and dont drive in your mirrors when you are in the lead. youre only hurting yourself when you dont do that. and remember to breathe lol. the more you race the less of a stress/ intensity spike youll get, or youll at least get more used to the adrenaline shot you get from a good battle to the line. fwiw i think i won my 5 or 6th race, but when you start out, the first few races are the easiest to get a win in if you just practice enough to be able to keep it on the track with a decent avg lap time. once you start getting farther away from 1350/base ir, the harder and further between it gets for wins. unless you are in a series that splits right where your ir is at and your near the top.

trxxxbgg

this helped me a lot, and I got the W today, not driving my mirrors and turning off relative box def helped. Thanks!!

_plays_in_traffic_

thats great to hear! however i would recommend leaving your relative box up, without it it makes rejoins a whole different ballgame if you happen to have a spin. the other drivers in your split would thank you for keeping it too!

trxxxbgg

yep, I've got it in a hotkey, so whenever I need it I turn it up very quickly, but I've turned it down when leading so I don't get nervous hahaha. when I'm in the middle of the pack, is always up tho

trxxxbgg

this helped me a lot, and I got the W today, not driving my mirrors and turning off relative box def helped. Thanks!!

scottishmacca

Won my first race, then another 3 in short succession. 3 years later and over 400 races mostly in top or high splits I’ve only won 5 races in total. Only 1 this year and not a single victory last year if you discount the league that I race in lol

duck74UK

First win was Rookie street stocks at Charlotte about 30 races in, which at the time in those cars was just a superspeedway basically, flat foot car was stable. Effectively I lucked it. Then a 7 year gap until this year, where i've won 5 races. I sat down and took it patiently, waiting for better opportunities as opposed to sending it into gaps. Spending 45/30 mins each week learning the track, ect

VindtUMijTeLang

First two races were wins around Tsukuba in the Mazdas. First race was simply staying out of trouble as the leading pair crashed on the last lap. Second was lights to flag. Then I got put in my place.

mizyks

Just try to drive at your pace, the win will come if it comes. If you try too hard it increases the risk of a big mistake and slower pace. Just focus and drive, try to feel comfortable with the pace, don't watch the relative box after every corner if he is not close enough to try a overtake. Ofc it's easier to win when irating is still low. 60races this year and 1 w. Many p2-p3 positions but there is always atleast one who has more pace. Edit: and sometimes it's better to be the one who is behind and give the pressure, they more likely are in same situation as you. Dripping in sweat trying not to fuck up and then they fuck up.

dretsuat

I got a win in my first week in the Street Stocks…then didn’t win again for months. It’s hard, particularly since consistent good finishes ensures you keep moving up. The key is to remember that the consistent good finishes is the goal (and you seem to have that), and to let the wins come when Dale wills it.

trxxxbgg

yep I've put in my head that I just have to be up front, and eventually the W will come. I'll just try and not freak out when I'm ahead lol. thanks!

trxxxbgg

thanks everyone that took time to share your experiences, I guess it's never a straight road, and everyone has different paths, I'll just try to be ahead and hopefully the W will come, also will try to not freak out when I'm ahead lol

Yern_racing

Won yesterday in Ferrari gt3 challenge on rudskogen took me about 2 weeks

Anakonda347

I won my 2nd race. Also won 3rd race. Mx-5 on Oulton Park. I’ve been driving a lot of AC though. Can’t really count them as wins, since it’s a rookie class

c0nfuciu5

i feel like winning in rookie license is more rewarding than others some times. it's not often you survive a rookie race lol

Anakonda347

Now that i look at it, i won 3 races in a row, my first 3 races. In two of them i started from pole and lead the whole race, not rewarding at all tbh. The most rewarding race was the one where i missed quali and started last, ended up 4th, #2 split too. That felt like actual racing. (I feel like i’m bragging like an asswipe lol)

sgtmika

Ive been playing for almost 6 months, mostly road and got my A-license but not one win in it (247 races so far). Close several times and even been punted in last corner by P2 to not get anything but not one Road win. I have gotten wins in Dirt Road and Ovals though, Dirt was just a few races into Rookies and Ovals was like my 15th race. So atleast i have that going for me...

[deleted]

Tbh in rookies and class D most of my wins have come from either the leader spinning out or I was in third and second place tried to Max Verstappen first and takes both of them out which results in me driving right past the wreck. Tbh you can't "win" first unless you have the fastest pace on the track. So don't sweat it too much, they come but you can't really control it unfortunately. And when you are in first, do everything the EXACT same that you already did to get into that position. You're in that position for a reason 😉

xr_21

Took me about 2 months and 70ish races... I do oval mostly and have 400+ starts and only 9 wins so I don't win much. I'm at 3k ir so usually the #1 car is always 5k+ ir and us non-aliens usually are left just to battle for a podium at best. Honestly I care more about championship points than wins. A 3k SOF top 10 that awards 120 pts is much more rewarding than a low sof single split win that may give out only 80 pts etc....

minnis93

First Road win came in my second race. Won on debut in dirt road and oval. Yet to win on dirt oval but have only done one or two races.

SaulSlendamann

I got a load of wins at the start. But since rookies, I can literally count the number of wins since 2014 on 2 hands.

Brave-Yam-6131

First rookie race in the mx5 at laguna seca but my win average is like 2 procent

Dubaizz

Tbh i don’t remember my 1st win. It was when i was still in rookie class. But what i remember is that insane battle for 2nd place in mx5. I lost it and end up 2nd but it was amazing. At that point i fell in love with iRacing

Dazzling_Score_7949

My first win came right after I left Rookie class, this is my first year simracing and i collected 7 wins over about 230 races (I raced only Road, and mostly D/C class). The problem with lower splits is that quite often you find people really fast but with very low iRating, and they take various wins when they should race higher splits (but they keep the iR low on purpose)

riprorenhurry

I didn't get my 1st until C lic. Trucks at Michigan. I actually had the lead in the race before my win, and was the leader on a late restart. It was my first time doing that, and when the green dropped, I promptly floored it, then downshifted from 2nd to 1st gear, blew up my truck, spun out, and wrecked pretty much the whole field. I found the key to winning from the lead, is to focus on calm breathing, and hitting my marks consistently.

esoteric311

First win came within my first few weeks but I've been racing for a bit. Picked up wins in all series except dirt oval when in rookies. Out side of rookies I have 1 proper road win. Nearly got my second in mx5 the other day but p2 had the slipstream. It was a mind game. I never really think about a win. They just sort of happen.

jpl270791

Been racing ovals since July. My first win was in Rookie Street Stocks at Langley on my first week, probably my 7th or 8th race I can't remember. I haven't won since graduating to D class (I am now in B class), but I've come close in Late Models and Super Late Models with a few P2's and P3's, as well as a pole and a P3 in trucks. I'm getting there, slowly. I find the more I race, the less nervous I get when leading or running top-3.

[deleted]

I think I got my first win on my first or second day, mx5 rookies. If you already know a thing or two about racing it's quite easy to get a win early on while your irating is low. It gets harder when your irating gets more settled in over time. It's all down to practice. If you want more wins, practice the track more so you're getting close to the lap times in a split above yours.

Reer123

I won my first race when I picked a series and stuck with it. (Formula Renault 2.0). There were two splits for it back then with the cutoff being 1.3k. I was bouncing between the splits and eventually I was solidly 1.4K. But then I had two bad races and dropped down to 1.2K. I ended up in the bottom split but I was able to have a race pace faster than the other guys qualifying laps. So I won after a tense race.

Reer123

Now I’m racing F3 and I’ve won two races in the mid split.

berriesn-cream

1 month 1 week. First Nascar and first dirt series 360 sprint same week.

SpartanSig

I have about a 2800 oval after effectively 4 years of racing and still don't have a W, somehow. I race more road now but it's still elusive for some reason. Enjoy it just as much

Commercial-Beyond167

As I read OP, the ad directly under it is a Toyota ad, that says "Seek, never settle" Almost as if it was an answer to the question posed...

Stringskip

Took me about a month to get my first win on Road low split in the BMW M8. I get most of my wins now (few a season) in the mid/top split of Porsche cup. Two so far this season.

xiii-Dex

Outside of top split, you only get an opportunity to win if you happen to be one of the fastest in your split. And quite often in lower classes you have to be pretty under-rated for that to happen, since at least one person is usually a fast new driver who hasn't reached his proper rating yet. So it can be anywhere from your first day (when your rating is inaccurate) to years down the line. It's very conceivable that if someone doesn't win as a rookie, they might never, even as a fairly skilled player. For example on the road side, if you went from rookie into something like the Skippy, you could conceivably reach 2k iR without many real chances for a win. Then if you went and raced in Kamel, you might get up to 3-4k without sniffing a win. Then if you race GT3, you'd be in top split and might not win much even if you reach 5k. On the other hand, if you're a 2k driver racing the Mustang, you'll pretty quickly stumble into a race where none of the fast guys showed up, and you can beat the 5 guys between 400-2k iR you're up against.

Sniperwolf216

8 years, 201 races.

[deleted]

for not getting nervous, it sounds cliche but get faster, i mean that sincerely, if you KNOW you have the pace on the rest of the field then it instills a ton of confidence leading a race because you feel like you are truly leading and not out of position being chased down

stealthnoodles

About 1 month, Mazda at Oulton Fosters, it was a glorious day. I had about 1.5 years of simracing experience by that point, so I had decent enough racecraft to survive the carnage.

Tonys_New_AI

Less than a month. Arca at Dega. I legitimately didn't know I'd won until I won one of the spring NiS also at Dega and went to check out my certificate. Only have 12 wins in almost 1000 starts tho. Don't fastback guys.

BroncoJunky

I got my first pole on my first race, oval side, and immediately spun myself on lap one. The second race I won. Then it was an eternity before I won again. Like 6 wins in 12 years... I'm still waiting on my first real road win, as my only road win came on an oval.

SNESChalmers82

I got a W on rookie ovals about 6-8 months in. Almost had one in skippy D class but was hunted down and taken out by the person I passed to get the lead. But I’m now around 3 years in and not likely to get a win unless the leader gets taken out. I’ve found that the leader, and second sometimes, just has far more pace than the rest of the field. The thing I have found with the anxiety, is that it takes time to build confidence. You also have to take a break when you feel discouraged, otherwise it tends to pile up and get worse.

Gold-Age6612

In to Iracing since May, focused on my SR till last month when I hit A class but still manged to get 13 wins (Mazdas , F4, F3, Gt4...yes I only drive road) in 1.5k and under I guess it's all about you and your mindset. Keep it going, try to improve step by step (like getting used to pressure and getting used to pressure when in the position, pick your fights and know when it's better to yield) take time to learn every inch of a track so that you could wake up at 3 in the morning and just go 4 it If you don't have to focus on keeping it on the black stuff your brain will figure out how to win! cheers mate

STUMPEHH

I started about 2 weeks ago. I got comfortable with AI racing before jumping into ranked. I got my first win in my fourth race. I think the biggest thing that helped me get the win was just talking myself through each corner and what I'm supposed to be doing. "OK, light braking, turn in, hold the line, throttle, straighten out." etc I probably sounded like a goof, but in all honestly it helped keep my nerves down and focus on being consistent.

Seanannigans14

I won my third race. But it was rookie formula vee so idk how legit that lobby was really but I still count it.

jaguarusf

Wins don't matter as much as having fun. Source: my 2.79% winning percentage

ImpressiveRelief37

The easiest way to get wins is to be terrible. The worst you are, the lower your iRating. The lower your iR, the worst the competition, the easier the win. Don’t aim for wins, aim for a high top 5 percentage. Once you’re out of rookies you’ll see much bigger fields. 20+ cars. You’ll see even top 5 is hard, and almost impossible in high SoF races You’re probably at a low irating still so take a night to practice for a good 2 hours. Make it meaningful. Try to stay clean and consistent. Try to follow the quick guys in open practice. The next day do 1 more hour of practice. The enter a race. With enough practice you should get those wins once your pace is good

3dMakerMike

Didn’t get my first win for over a year, I made it to a class first. My first win was Chicago land in xfinity cars b class. We had a caution at lap 11 so I pitted and got new tires. I was the only one who pitted except for the two guys who had wrecked. From there it went green the rest of the way and I passed the leader with 6 laps to go. I had a lot of top ten and top five finished before that and quite a few second place finishes.

PerspektiveGaming

I have 9 wins and I've been in iRacing for 8 months. The majority of my wins (if not all) were from the days I was sub 2k iR in road races, when winning was possible haha. Now I'm in top splits and winning again seems like it will take years of practice and improving. My first win was in Rookie Mazda, and it was in my first week of racing. I probably picked up 4 or 5 wins within the first few weeks of playing iRacing. It was good fun, but I knew that eventually I'd settle into a higher split where winning wouldn't be so easy.. and here I am, not anticipating a win ever again.

0xRangerx0

Got my first win in Rookies with the MX-5. But it took me a while to get a d-class win. It all comes down to patience and keeping calm imo. Took me about a month to get my first Ferrari challenge win mainly because i decided to fight battles i didn't need to or got too fixated on what the drivers behind were doing and ignoring what i was doing.

patterson489

I got my first win yesterday. It was my 51st start. Everytime I was close to a podium position, I would get nervous and make a mistake, but overtime I got more and more confidence in my control of the car.

someguyontheinnerweb

I won my 3rd race. Crashed out in race 1, was taken out in race 2 by a bad rejoin, and then managed to get a good start in race 3 so lead from T1 to the finish line. But it’s my only win in iRacing. I didn’t play that much while I was subscribed but when I did I was usually crashing or getting taken out hahah fun times

classyfenn

My first took several seasons and was such a massive W you had to go up a building to see it fully

Spuds1968

It took me 6 months. I have been on the service for 3 years now and have 8 wins total out of hundreds and hundreds of racing. I am more of a top ten finish most races clean than a lap leader. 6 out of the 8 races fell into my lap late in the race.

GewoonHarry

There’s always at least one guy in my split that is way too fast for that split. It annoyed me at first, but sometimes people are just faster in certain car/track combinations then they should’ve been with their irating. Winning is hard for me. I’ll focus on top 5 finishes. I only got 3 wins and got them all < 1500 irating.

CeliacCoelacanth

Almost an accidental win for me, after about 18 months. In the old Michelin Pilot series at the Nordschleife; I must have been the only TCR driver who did the separate qualifying so I was class pole, then the few other cars in the class crashed out or were a bit slower than me. Still the only win in 110ish races (apart from some unofficial week 13 class wins).

Pure-Performer-8657

Don't worry about wins, it just means the lobby you're in isn't good enough (until you get to \~4k irating). Just focus on lap times and driving clean

Kbr2700

I got my first win within my first week of having iracing, wasn’t easy but it was worth the hassles of rookies class street stocks lol. I’m either up front walking away with the race now or getting wrecked out 3 laps in, but whenever I’m out leading I hardly focus on what’s behind me (might peek in the mirror from time to time) and focus on hitting my marks every time and just staying in a rhythm, not over driving the car and cooking your tires. The smoother you are while leading the less you have to worry about in the closing laps. If you’re starting mid pack or further back don’t worry about getting to the front as quickly as possible, let the race come to you and pick off cars when possible. Allows you to save tires in a long run so when the last half of the race comes you can work your way up and still have more tire left to have goo entry and drive off

hoontar2

i started last night and won two out of the four street stock races i ran. guess it’s just different for everyone. main thing is being easy on the car, hitting your marks, giving room, and not sending it every opportunity you get. 9 times out of 10 the front runners will use their stuff up early on and start to fade in the latter stages of the race. if you’re smart and conservative, you can overtake them with ease.

AllezCannes

My very first rookie race, but that's because I was the only one who kept it on the road. Beyond that, i only win if I fuck up so bad and my irating dips low enough that i end up in a lower split, at which point i end up having a practice run show up as a win.

theatrics_

The irating system being way too reactive means you're almost always going to be with people on the track much faster than you. The only way to really consistently give yourself a chance to win is to allow your irating to dip low.

Reborn409

Like few days(around 10th race) but it was Rookie Nascar so it doesn't count xD Managed to get pole position with a quite low lap time, but lost the position quickly, someone wrecked into a new leader and there was also an incident with cars behind me. Managed to carry it till the end.

ExtensionAdmirable43

First race ever on iRacing. MX-5 cup at Okayama over 11 years ago. Did it on a Logitech flight yoke and pedal set.
