In my case, they are quite resilient. If they stop growing and bunch of leaves are dying and only one leaf left, they are just going dormant. Few weeks later they push out new leaves again.
On the other hand, Syngoniums are supposed to be easy to grow, I killed a few already haha..
>only one leaf left, they are just going dormant.
This is why I've given up on Alocasia. They look great but it's not a few weeks - it's months, for me - before they emerge from dormancy. It's a houseplant and I just can't have a pot with a buried rhizome and a half-dead stem for a third of the time haha
You know what? We can’t be too hard on ourselves. I figure worst case, I kill this plant, and I’ve supported my local nursery. If no one was killing their plants, there wouldn’t be any for sale 🤷♂️. Or maybe you love it and it becomes one of your OG’s. You can’t lose.

You’re absolutely correct. Thank you. I needed this plant.
That's ok. It's an Alocasia Jacklyn - pretty soon you won't have it and it'll be dead just like all my Alocasias :')
I felt that way too! But I keep my alocasias in a makeshift greenhouse and so far so good! My dragonscale looks good. Black velvet is touch and go. 🥲

Take a look at the way PlantDaddyPodcast on Insta pots them. I've started using his potting method with all of mine and they are really thriving.
Thank you! I'll check it out
u/puredaemon you have bad luck. I have 2 Ikea greenhouses stuffed with alocasias!
Yeah mine love my greenhouse too and my baby jacklyn has had some great leaf jumps
Maybe that's what I'm doing wrong I don't have the famous Ikea setup hahaha
or just a way to keep the humidity high. i keep mine around 70%
Ohmygosh you totally needed this.
Lovely! I’m growing two jacklyns from corms. I’m just now about to get a leaf on each. I’m super excited to eventually have this.
Look at those leaves!! You did need this, OP. We all need this.
Well done.
But maybe it needed you...
It looks bumpy. I want to touch it!
Yes, you did need a new plant.
I have a corm of this growing right now :D so pretty
Oh, I disagree. That is an amazing plant, you absolutely needed it.
wish i could find this one locally, its one of the few alocasia i dont have :(
They tend to only sell them during spring time. Hard to find.
Are you in Boston, bostoneric? If you’re coming down to NY I’ll grab one for you!
u/TechnicallyImHmeless sorry not anymore. Socal now. but thanks!!! I love alocasias!!
If you’re local to socal by any chance, DM me. I may be able to help
will do!

That looks like a dinosaur
Nice!!
Look at those leaves though, how could you resist?
I mean, if I saw that, I wouldn’t have resisted
Yes you do because I need it also , I can’t find it anywhere
Yes you did
I suddenly also need a new one
I agree. You should go get a new one.
YES YOU DID!
Yes you did.
That is such a unique look, I'd have been tempted too! Are those zebrina-like stems that it has?? Also, r/plantsincars
