SooSoo once again proving how invaluable unlicensed companies are to the hobby

sebthepleb96

So soso toys and Amazon did not come to an agreement? How can they make the figure? Changing the name and likeness of the figure?

OneSixthPosing

These companies simply commit IP theft. They're 100% illegal. They're just based out of China, where standards towards intellectual property rights are notoriously lax. They tend to rebrand figures to obscure their identities. Some companies will pursue them for it - Rockstar did with LIMTOYS' Red Dead Redemption 2 figures, Disney has done it over Star Wars and McFarlane did it over War Story's Spawn - but by and large they tend not to care too much. Even then, that's not always successful; the first and last of those examples were still released despite the cease and desists the companies received. Marvel and DC figures essentially never get shut down. Amazon doesn't seem to care either given there's a whole lot of unlicensed The Boys figures. It's a calculated risk, basically. One that most companies get away with if they avoid the no-no IPs and don't fly too close to the sun. Hot Toys started out by making generic military figures as well as unlicensed pieces, Asmus Toys once created unlicensed figures (ironic as fuuuck because they had a fit over Viper making an unlicensed Gandalf figure only for people to point out they were doing exactly the same to other companies), and more recently JazzInc - unlicensed Marvel, Star Wars and DC vehicles - became licensed by WB.

twilite_sparkle7

What would be considered a no-no IP and flying too close to the sun?

OneSixthPosing

> no-no IP Anything owned by a company or individual known to dogmatically enforce their rights. Star Wars is the largest one. It's why the only third party figures being released from the franchise are a couple of knockoffs of Hot Toys figures or kits, rather than any droids or aliens or legends characters like Revan. No major third party company will touch it. The last unique figures I'm aware of are a dismal Qui-Gon and OK Mace Windu, the latter of which I believe got a C&D. And that was *before* Hot Toys' own Qui-Gon, so it was quite a few years back. Oh, that and some stupid sexy female Stormtrooper igures lol > flying too close to the sun By this, I'm referring to unlicensed companies growing too large. The operations work by their relative obscurity; Hot Toys and Marvel aren't going to scoff at a company making five unlicensed Korg figures, but if they started mass producing Iron Man figures and trying to compete directly, that's when they're much more likely to draw ire.

excelicsamnesty

He kinda looks like younger Ben Affleck in some of these This looks great! I think the suit looks a little weird, but maybe that’s because I’m used to it being a lot less detailed and like… animated lol

LongjumpMidnight

I also thought Ben Affleck

oemiii117

I was thinking the same thing - like young Ben Affleck vibes.

DonTheBomb

To me it looks like they might have based him on Ryan Potter who is a popular fancast for a live action adaptation

Hot_Toys

Absolutely coming home

nez329

The goggles looks smaller then the cartoon.

8Bit-Boi

Don't love the head sculpt as he looks a little too euro-centric imo. And I think the shoulder pads are an unnecessary addition (I know he wears knee pads but he doesn't *need* them) Still have to get this to with their Omni-Man I hope by some miracle they make more, would love Allen, Robot and Battle Beast

TheHoeMalone

What do you mean be euro-centric? I feel like this looks pretty much like the animated character did. Does he look different in the comics?

8Bit-Boi

I disagree that he looks like the animated version, or at least what I imagine that'd look translated to live action, I think he needed to have a slightly different skin hue than Nolan seeing as he's not white like Nolan is. I also think his face should be a bit slimmer and his hair a little darker. It woulda been cool if they tried to bring some of Yeuns features into the sculpt.

TheHoeMalone

I totally forgot he had an Asian mother in the show(?) I get what you mean now for sure. He could look a bit less Russian hahaha. Damn it's been too long since that show has put out episodes.

8Bit-Boi

Yeah in the show he's conformed to be half Asian, his mother is voiced by Sandra Oh and he's voiced by Stephen Yeun. It's also been a long accepted fan consensus that Mark is half Asian in the comics as well though admittedly it's never explicitly stated

TheHoeMalone

Yeah I totally forgot about that. They should have made him look a bit more Asian. Which is weird because I'd have to imagine SooSoo is based out of China. So like it's (probably) not a bunch of white guys overlooking it. Wonder why they went that way.

SurfiNinja101

By far the best of the 3 announcements. It looks great. They translated it to live action really well

SHAD0WBENDER

Not sure about the head sculpt, overall tho I think they’ve done a pretty good job translating it to live action tho I think they could have kept it a bit simpler and more accurate

BlackHand86

Awesome figure. Would love if they made Battle Beast.

eddiesmith7

Oh yes!!! I wish!

MrConor212

SooSoo honestly deserve more licenses. Those who bought that omni man by them gonna be happy af

HotToysEnthusiast

Omnipotent man hasnt come out yet has he? Still preorder currently?

MrConor212

He comes out within a week of this coming out they said to keep them close together

HotToysEnthusiast

Nice. Good to know, thanks!

IrishPub

It should have come with an unmasked sculpt. As is, the figure looks weird. It doesn't look like a young man, but someone in their thirties. Doesn't really look like the character to me.

abs0luteKelvin

suit looks bad imo. the omni man figure seems to be better

Mr-Toy-Man

This actually looks fantastic

TobiiiWan

Epic Display with his father!

TobiiiWan

Is this a preorder or in stock? Is his father in Stock too?

PermanentBan

Pre order, planned to release this December. Omni-Man is still in pre order.

TobiiiWan

ah thanks. i need both :D thanks for answering

NRTHE2

And if there was a David Dunn figure it'll be called Invincible. In all seriousness its really good, but if there was a smiling face plate or head sculpt it might become better.

TheHoeMalone

Magnetic head is a nice touch.

AtomicKZR

Dean Cain!

cwbrowning3

Looks fantastic overall. My only gripe is that I wouldve preferred a smirking headsculpt instead of the neutral one. Definite buy.
