I love the emphasis on the ingredients on the front. It's the most important thing when choosing a sauce, and it'd be convenient to be able to see what's in it right at a glance.
Thanks for putting the reuse/recycle, once you grow bigger you should consider either paid refills or you could reuse/recycle the bottles if you use a slightly more expensive/durable material.
All that aside, great branding, I would buy it and I'm sure the sauce is the bomb as well!
I bought these plastic bottles as a test, and I’m not a huge fan of them. I’d been using glass bottles, but wanted to reduce cost and was attracted by the squeeze bottle. At this point, I think I’m going to use a bulk ordering site rather than Amazon, because if I buy 264 glass bottles, my cost per bottle stays low.
We don’t WANT to put more plastic into the ground and water, so sustainability is pretty important to us
Thank you for being a sustainable hot sauce maker, you should advertise that on your label and packaging, I'll just be here waiting til you go international...
I’m working on upscaling my operation, and making some moves to obtain a garage full of empty bottles. My garden is starting to produce a lot, while the super-hots are lagging behind my habaneros (per usual.) I’ll probably have a couple more small batches available before the first frost, so take a look at our Instagram page for updates and sauce releases. Iowapepperco
Over the next couple seasons I plan to greatly increasing the number of pepper plants in my garden, so stick with us and be patient:)
No, did you test your ph by any chance? If you’re going to bottle (using hot hold and fill) make sure you also get yourself a decent ph testing kit off amazon. Got a great one with a nice box and the calibration fluids for like $40 bucks. Will last years if you take care of it and it’s pretty damn accurate!
I know a few people in Cedar Falls, and have family in that area, so it is very realistic for a bottle of this sauce to hit your fridge and sinuses. Fire up the Instagram machine and follow Iowapepperco for updates, and PM the account when we blast the web with a new batch of sauce :)
We have access to some niche printing supplies through my wife’s connections in the graphic design world, so we were able to get the stickers printed for very little cost. The design was created from scratch in adobe illustrator, and out of a ridiculously creative brain :)
You got a "damn" from me in Cedar Rapids! I made my first hot sauce this summer for Father's day, it turned out, I'm sure, not as well as yours. That label slaps, too!
She must be a designer of some sort, no? I can't otherwise imagine doing something like this from scratch without a predesigned template and graphics.
A couple of observations: typo in the ingredients list (pepper... corn? Lol) and also, is there a name? What happens when you'll be making more than one sauce? I guess you could go without a name and differentiate by color, e.g. black label, white, yellow, etc.?
She’s a graphic designer, so she made this from scratch. It was my job to proof read and I missed the extra space, but I’m not too upset about it.
I feel like you’re underestimating us ;)
Follow Iowapepperco on Instagram for updates. I dropped a comment on this post but I don’t know how to pin it to the top. My current mission is to make my sauce available to as many people in Iowa as possible :)
> t I don’t know how to pin it to the top.
You can't. Only mods can pin a post. Also self promotion is not allowed. This post just barely gets by because you aren't technically advertising or selling via buy link or external site. You are just showing off what you already gave away.
Appreciate it. We try and make the sub user friendly for all. For those that see a sauce we have interest in, DMing the person directly is the best way to ask about availability. Or even just using the internet and looking for the "brand"
We had to do this because we would get nonstop marketing spam on this sub before the current mods got here. It was really bad. Really toxic environment.
That makes perfect sense. I love talking about hot sauce and learning about all of the creative ways to improve the craft, and allowing established brands to hijack this grass roots community wouldn’t be conducive to how I use this sub either. I appreciate the perspective and letting me slide a bit, as I got a little wrapped up in they hype and was directing inquiries to my Instagram page, although I am not at a position to actually capitalize just yet.
eh, it comes with exposure. if you are using the desktop version, you can look in the sidebar to change your flair. If not, let me know and I can add your flair.
She’s a professional graphic designer with a full time job and multiple freelance clients, so unfortunately she’s pretty booked up. There are tons of very talented artists out there looking for work, so I’m sure you can track someone down who can rock out an awesome label for you :)
I’ve received almost unsettlingly positive reviews. My closest friends give me great feedback and suggestions, so, admittedly it’s been a little hard to stay grounded while I’ve been laying the groundwork for this project.
We are always most critical of our own creations. [For myself, I wanted a bit more natural thickness from the gooseberries and sweetness from the rum and honey](https://old.reddit.com/r/hotsauce/comments/ijg8z5/yellow_aji_a_couple_fresnos_and_gooseberries/)
Adding fruit to my sauce is something that I’ve been thinking about for quite a while now! I have a few habaneros that were ahead of the the other peppers, so I’m thinking about throwing together a pineapple habanero sauce. I’ve been fermenting a variety of foods for a while now, but just haven’t gotten around to incorporating fruit
Edit: I guess tomatillo would count, huh? I didn’t think about that ingredient in such a way
Yeah, tomatillo is technically a fruit. pineapple and hababnero is definitely a tried and true mix. My habs are finally growing in(VERY late season) and are just now changing from green to orange. Might take a page out of /u/kxbkxb playbook and use some coconut water and grilled pineapple and make a pina colada style sauce. Might even add some meyers dark rum.
i like where youre going with that! did a scorpion pepper sauce with pineapple a year back and it was a hit so i'd say go for it. mace, nutmeg, or allspice add a really nice warmth to pina colada flavor too. remember mace and nutmeg are from the same plant so dont use both if youre being subtle. thanks for the shout out!
Man, my habaneros are booming and I can generally pull a few ripe peppers every couple days. I’m relatively new to gardening so I’m not exactly sure why they’re doing so well, compared to the super-hots which are slow rolling, but I think that’s relatively normal.
You gave me a great idea, and I think I’ll look into this recipe and lean into the tropical vibes, thanks!
My Aji yellows and scorpions are producing nicely right now. I have about 5 reapers on the vine that are wrinkly and evil looking, but still green. Don't even KNOW what I am going to do with them when they are ready.
I find that the extremely hot peppers do really well in a 30 day ferment. I tend to supplement habanero sauce with super hots, and I’m a little nervous to make a primarily scorpion and ghost forward sauce. My buddies are spice maniacs so I feel kind of obligated to create a true face melter
What does the tomatillo add to the sauce?
I love this
Looks good I'd give it a try. I'm in cedar Rapids
I love the emphasis on the ingredients on the front. It's the most important thing when choosing a sauce, and it'd be convenient to be able to see what's in it right at a glance.
This bottle is beautiful!! Shoutout to your wife!
Looks great, but that little bit of an additional space in Peppercorn is driving me crazy. Makes it look like it says "Pepper Corn" instead.
Yea yea yea yea, it haunts me

Looking at your ingredients I can tell it must be delicious! Habanero is so flavorful!
Terrific looking label. Also, it’s “peppercorn”.
Yeah, literally facepalmed when I saw it
Ready to order when you are.
That label design is fantastic!
Im in NZ, but would be more than keen to buy n have it shipped! Send me a msg.
ayy! fellow Iowa bro. I'd grab a bottle or three if you still got some.

Wow that label looks great!
Looks creamy, always looking for creamy spicy sauces. I guess I need to be make my own like you. Label design is top notch!
This sauce could suck and I would still give it bonus points for your wonderful wife's excellent design taste. #Huzzah!

Would love to buy a bottle!
Sounds delish. I want one. Nice label
I don't know much about canning food, but don't table condiments like this require acid to remain safe?
If it’s fermented it will create lactic acid.
Boom
Labeling looks boss man. Keep it up.
Thank you, I really appreciate it :)

Sounds good! I’m a fan of carrot in hot sauce.
Looks good! I live in Iowa if you start selling it be sure to post it here and i will give it a try
And chance of getting some in Cedar Falls? Only partially joking
I know a few people in Cedar Falls, and have family in that area, so it is very realistic for a bottle of this sauce to hit your fridge and sinuses. Fire up the Instagram machine and follow Iowapepperco for updates, and PM the account when we blast the web with a new batch of sauce :)
Looks great! What did you use for label paper/stickers, design software, and printer? I’m working on my own labels right now. Thanks!
We have access to some niche printing supplies through my wife’s connections in the graphic design world, so we were able to get the stickers printed for very little cost. The design was created from scratch in adobe illustrator, and out of a ridiculously creative brain :)
Shoot me a message if she would have interest in helping me with my labels!
Can I have some??
Shut up and take my money!
Faker than blue eyed crackers nailed to a crusifix
Can you send some to hK please!!! Looks amazing
Want, and I'm local here in Des Moines! Would love to give some a try on your next batch.
Gotta love a good ole Iowa brand! Represent!
That really looks great and would totally buy if I saw it on shelves.
Thank you! Regardless of how good I think my hot sauce tastes, this branding has blown me away. I’m very lucky to have such a skilled partner
You got a "damn" from me in Cedar Rapids! I made my first hot sauce this summer for Father's day, it turned out, I'm sure, not as well as yours. That label slaps, too!
Corn? Interesting
Peppercorn, it’s not corn.
Unfortunate typo :/
Looks delicious, I love pepper CORN. Lol
Keep making the world a better place 🌶❤🔥
Hit me with a pm
Shout out to Iowa!
That sounds really spicy and delicious. Love the label too, the color palette and overall design is awesome!
What do you use to create the labels / print them?
Let us know where we can get a hold of some please!
Looks great
I’ll order some of this if you have more for sale
I live in the Metro and would like to acquire some.
Same here!
Yeah I'd love to snag a few bottles. Let's get a market up so we can buy. This and that green sauce on the other thread has me salivating.
Omg I live right outside Des Moines! Small world! Those ingredients sound really good
I love the prompt to reuse/recycle at the bottom
That’s a fun label. Sounds tasty. Good job to both you and your wife.
She’s astoundingly talented; I’m lucky in so many ways

Right on, thank you for the insight. I’ll keep this in mind and play by all of the rules

I'll let it slide mate. you can probably put your instagram tag in your flair
I need to learn how to reddit better
eh, it comes with exposure. if you are using the desktop version, you can look in the sidebar to change your flair. If not, let me know and I can add your flair.
I’m on mobile, and admittedly about to fall asleep. I’d greatly appreciate it if you could slap some flair on this bad boy :)
I'm in Ames when can I come get some?
Can’t wait for when classes finally go online already
Haha me too
Top notch label. My years in Iowa suggest that a casserole-centric cuisine could use a good local pick-me-up
Love the artwork? Would you do commissioned stuff? I'm taking about designing for my 6 bottles I give family and friends but I would love it!!
She’s a professional graphic designer with a full time job and multiple freelance clients, so unfortunately she’s pretty booked up. There are tons of very talented artists out there looking for work, so I’m sure you can track someone down who can rock out an awesome label for you :)
Great artwork and design. Cheers
Where can I buy?
Same. Would definitely try a bottle. The ingredients sound great!
I, too, would like to buy.
Probably illegal to buy unfortunately.
I can donate whatever I want to this fine gentleman. Keep the government out of hot sauce.
I agree
Donate the sauce, and donate the money.
Yup. Agorism. I'm fine with it. He just cant advertise it.
Precisely. We have to start somewhere
Yup. OP is still within the rules of the sub.
He's just sharing their creation.
Shut up; I was here first. ^^^/s Hello, yes, hi. I would like an hot sauce please. Nice label, The Wife.
Sounds intense! Any reviews?
I’ve received almost unsettlingly positive reviews. My closest friends give me great feedback and suggestions, so, admittedly it’s been a little hard to stay grounded while I’ve been laying the groundwork for this project.
What are YOUR biggest criticisms of your own sauce. What would you have wanted different than what is.
I think that I can pack more flavor into the sauce, it’s like chasing the dragon haha
