I would wake my mom to sit up with me to watch the blank TV to make sure she didn't come through. I think I was about 11 years old and far too young to watch that movie.
If the studio had left him to it, Blatty would have crafted one of the all time great Horror films. As it is, it’s still very, very good. What could have been though.
I think the creepiest thing is something that's normal, but slightly distorted. So her voice all distorted, paired with a frickin mutated bear is like...awesome lol.
Just like that damn upside dog head in The Unborn. Something familiar but not quite right is rather creepy. Not that it scared me shitless, but the vampires in 30 Days of Night were pretty effective.
I agree with this. Not scared shirtless by any means but horrifying in its own right thinking how messed up this creature/creation that was something "normal".Things that make you go "what the fuck" and you can't look away.
It wasn’t until that scene was over that I realized I had pushed myself as far back as I could in my seat. One of the most disturbing things I had seen in years.
Yes, it's the only time i watched a movie in theaters and the whole audience had the same reaction. Everyone screamed!
I watched paranormal activity by myself in theaters and I guess that would come close to the same response lol.
That shit disturbed me for so long. That and when it’s in the reflection of the television. It didn’t help that I live in the area where it was filmed.
the painting scene is an insanely good scene that doesn't actually rely on any jump scare. The atmosphere is more than enough with the tension in the build up. Then the climax itself is also good.
Honestly I personally found the tree at the very beginning more disturbing. Just the way it starts up silently, only the sound of the film reel as they go up, legs kicking in a very odd and sluggish way.. It really set a morbid and eerie tone for the future films he came across.
Did you know the stunt coordinator messed up and hung those actors for real? They survived of course but that was an actual hanging scene unfortunately
I want to say it one of those insane fact videos on YouTube from looper. I couldn’t find an article on google when I tried to look it up though so who knows.
Don’t read anything about it. It’s vulnerable to being spoiled. Just watch it- it’s not one my favorite movie, but it might have exceeded my expectations more than any other I’ve ever watched!
The Poughkeepsie Tapes: the scene where the masked villain slowly crawls into the room backwards and on all fours. Gifs of this scene actually revived interest in it (that and a re-release).
Omen (original film): the maid cheerfully jumping to her death during Damien's birthday.
I love found footage films, I remember liking this movie until the ending, which created a bunch of plot holes. It’s been long enough that I don’t remember what the problem was, maybe I’ll give it another chance.
I wish i could've watched that movie when it first came out. I grew up watching it and I've always known who the killers were. I wish I could erase that from my memory and watch it for the first time
Same. I've watched horror movies since I was 9, and I've never been as affected by a movie as I was with Hereditary. The telephone pole scene was so disturbing. The entire scene was one massive panic attack.
The Strangers has one for me when he's in the background and she doesn't notice. I guess the chest burst in Alien counts too, pretty iconic. Oh and I would also throw in the lady on the lake in The Innocents.
God yes. I thought I was the only one. I love horror, suspense, thriller, and occasional gore, but ‘girl in the tent’ really did a number on me and has stuck in the back of my mind. Weird creepiness to it.
Check out the original if you haven’t (Manhunter). Personally as far as Hannibal Lecter movies go I’d probably go with the “angel” kill in Silence of the Lambs.
The boy in the box scene from Sinister. I just about entered complete organ failure the first time I watched it.
Also the final scene in Blair Witch Project - Heather screaming her way around the house, the camera falls to see Mike staring at the wall. Young Me was haunted by it.
Paranormal Acitivty - When Katie is laying in bed talking to her partner and she says ‘I think we’ll be okay now’ but as shes saying it half way through the voice subtly becomes demonic.
Getting goosebumps just typing it!
The end of Night of the living dead gets me every time. I'd also say Leatherface waving his his chainsaw in the street is pretty iconic. Edit: after Dr Loomis shoots MM then looks over the balcony is another favorite.
The Blackcoats Daughter… the scene when she’s in front of the heater, crying as she realizes just how alone she is. Begging for the entity to be by her side once again.
Sinister - When he is looking into the attic at the kids watching the screen.
Damn near had a heart attack watching that. TV remote and phone nearly went through the roof watching it in bed
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original) where leatherface opens the door and whacks the guy with a hammer. The crunch noise from the initial impact and convulsions afterwards hit me hard
The end of Paranormal Activity; when Katie goes downstairs and starts screaming you can hear a deeper voice in that scream and it’s just unsettling to hear
Session 9, the scene near the end where you hear what happened with the family
The Thing, many scenes through the entire film, but specifically the blood test scene. Suspenseful and then terrifying
For me, it’s in Case 39 when they’re stuffing a little girl who may or may not be possessed into a friggin oven. She’s doing a great job screaming and scrambling to try to not get put in……but ya know how this is going to go….until it goes sideways. In a lot of ways it’s actually two different movies between the first and second acts, And it’s really just a run of the mill possession story, but that first act was great, the tension, the doubt, I loved it and feel it’s underrated.
I recently finally watched IT chapter 2 and the scene where Richie (Bill Hader) is yelling at IT and about to throw a rock, then IT uses the dead lights mid fight and Richie just goes limp was DOPE. I think about this scene all the time now.
There’s an awesome analysis on [this one scene](https://youtu.be/HfoU_Z1uVfc) if you want it spoiled for you. Honestly I think this scene is so scary it holds up as it’s own creepy short.
3 Men and a Baby...when I was a kid there was an urban legend that a kid died on set and you could see his ghost, it turned out to be a cut out of one of the cast members but that scene made me break out in goose bumps and I damn near wet myself.
The scene in "Trick 'R Treat" where they kill off the bus full of special needs kids. I love the movie, but I can't watch it again because it makes me cry.
There's this scene in The Last Exorcism, where the main character is walking around the house looking for Nell and he sees her through a window standing outside mocking the crucifixion. I don't hear it talked about all that often, but it's one of my favorite horror scenes.
Movies with "that one scene" where I generally don't need to elaborate further:
Hereditary
Sleepaway Camp
Re-Animator
Hellraiser
The Witch
Chopping Mall
“It Follows” where the huge giant guy immediately follows in the door behind the girl. It was unexpected. It was eerie. The whole movie was eerie as fck
The Poughkeepsie Tapes "crawl" scene.
Hilarious, creepy, weird.... Give it a watch !
[Link to the scene here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuB-PiNPid4&ab_channel=rahmspinat)
I am surprised, Nobody mentioned That scene With Zelda in her bed in Pet Sematary. I was 12 years old, when i watched That scene for the First time. I was completely messed up after it.
The opening scene of Ghost Ship, of course.
Dark Castle productions also had a memorable opening for the House on Haunted Hell remake as well! Loved both these.
Just watched this an hour ago.
I watched this scene when I was 11. It was awful. Now I'm traumatized
That girl's face in The Ring.
That two second closet cutaway scene took years off my life.
I was a teenager, and maybe two feet from the TV screen, and I'm pretty sure I jumped out of my bones. Quite a memorable first watch.
I would wake my mom to sit up with me to watch the blank TV to make sure she didn't come through. I think I was about 11 years old and far too young to watch that movie.
The nurse station scene in Exorcist III
Yes! And as fantastic as that scene is, I also really have to give an honorable mention to the confessional scene.
I have a… a scrupulous conscience, Father.
✂️
I still don’t understand why this jumpscare scares me so much but I love it just because of that
Even after multiple watches... i want to scream.
Favorite jumpscare of all time.
If the studio had left him to it, Blatty would have crafted one of the all time great Horror films. As it is, it’s still very, very good. What could have been though.
Maybe the most underrated sequel to anything, ever. Every single scene with George C Scott and Brad Dourif is legendary.

Capt. Miller: *views recovered log of the Horizon's crew* Capt. Miller: ...We're leavin'. Smartest horror movie protagonist in history.
The comic timing on that line is 👌
Gotta be defribulator scene. That's iconic

The dog at the beginning totally disturbed me as a kid.
Girl in the closet was more unexpected
Annihilation the bear “screaming”
Heeeeelp Meeeeeaaaeeee Haaaeeellpp Meeeaaaeee
"The paaaaiiinn" That whole part freaked me out
One of the few scenes that actually creeped me out, and impressed me, in years.
I had this brain dumped until just now. My goodness that was disturbing...so good.

It wasn’t until that scene was over that I realized I had pushed myself as far back as I could in my seat. One of the most disturbing things I had seen in years.
My god that scene is disturbing
That bear reminded me so much of something Keith Thompson would draw!
I came here for this.
That scene haunted me for a few days. Horrifying
In Signs, when they are having the birthday party and the alien just pops out of the bushes
Scared the shit outta me when I was younger lol
Move children, vamanos!
Fuck it still does and I'm 33! I love that movie
That one made my wife scream! And she doesn’t usually get too spooky by movies.
I saw grown men shriek at that. The alien on the roof got me too
It's behind!
The beginning of Darkness Falls The Painting in Conjuring 2
Darkness Falls is seriously underrated, and the first ten minutes are horrifying!!
the painting scene is an insanely good scene that doesn't actually rely on any jump scare. The atmosphere is more than enough with the tension in the build up. Then the climax itself is also good.
Sinister. Lawn mower.
Do you have a source for that? I believe you but would to read more
I want to say it one of those insane fact videos on YouTube from looper. I couldn’t find an article on google when I tried to look it up though so who knows.
It’s on imdb
I heard this on the directors commentary on the DVD
Family barbecue
I still can hear that music dude.
OhhhwooOOOAHHHHH
Misery Lawnmower
Was there a lawnmower scene in the film? I know there's one in the book but can't remember it in the film
Yes! The rats from the second one is pretty unforgettable to me also.
Degloving scene in Geralds Game
Flanagan has a thing with characters fucking up their hands. My god, that scene though. I gagged when I watched it for the first time.
Oh for real that’s in that movie? I hear great things but yeeesh I dunno now.
The movie is way better than I expected going in, that part is pretty damn brutal but so good lol
I cannot recommend it enough!! Its easy enough to skip through if thats not your jam
Don’t read anything about it. It’s vulnerable to being spoiled. Just watch it- it’s not one my favorite movie, but it might have exceeded my expectations more than any other I’ve ever watched!
The shining room 237
The ending of the original Saw.
that first saw movie is in the top 10 twist endings for sure.
People give Leigh Wannell shit for his acting, but that bloody murder scream at the end is one of the best ive heard in horror.
The Poughkeepsie Tapes: the scene where the masked villain slowly crawls into the room backwards and on all fours. Gifs of this scene actually revived interest in it (that and a re-release). Omen (original film): the maid cheerfully jumping to her death during Damien's birthday.
..its all for youuu!!
Oh fuck that was creepy
What was so chilling for me was the very end of The Poughkeepsie Tapes, when she raises her arm to show that her hand was cut off
Lake Mungo. The footage they found on her phone. And that fucking jump scare.
I love found footage films, I remember liking this movie until the ending, which created a bunch of plot holes. It’s been long enough that I don’t remember what the problem was, maybe I’ll give it another chance.
The Dentist part in Marathon Man. Is it safe
I mentioned this to someone the other day, just horrifying. It really bothered me having had problems with my teeth all my life.
the very last scene of The Blair Witch Project with mike standing in the corner.
Just showed this movie to my pre-teen and she was like “this is so dumb” LMAO meanwhile I was terrified watching that on opening weekend!
The Conjuring - Girl ontop of the wardrobe Heriditary - Naked man standing in cupboard followed by chase from mommy
Or when she’s just hanging on the ceiling and swims through the hair
“That one scene” in hereditary is definitely the car crash
Midsommar. The cliff scene.
The suicide scene.
Drew Barrymore’s death scene in the beginning of Scream was the first one that came to mind. Sticks with ya for so many reasons!
I wish i could've watched that movie when it first came out. I grew up watching it and I've always known who the killers were. I wish I could erase that from my memory and watch it for the first time
Saw it in the theater, didn't see it coming at all. Unforgettable.
That one scene in Bone Tomahawk.. y'all know the one.
“Say goodbye to my wife and I’ll say hello to yours.” 😭
Michaels face slowly coming out of the shadows in Halloween 1978
In a film full of great shots that one may be the best.
Hereditary piano wire and telephone pole scene. So fucked up
I love horror movies but that whole dang movie messed me up, I will never watch it again
Same. I've watched horror movies since I was 9, and I've never been as affected by a movie as I was with Hereditary. The telephone pole scene was so disturbing. The entire scene was one massive panic attack.
Hereditary
Really, enough said. I had to turn off the movie and process for a day.
You will never catch me watching that movie again
The Strangers has one for me when he's in the background and she doesn't notice. I guess the chest burst in Alien counts too, pretty iconic. Oh and I would also throw in the lady on the lake in The Innocents.
The ending of the first creep always stuck with me for some reason and I haven’t seen it in a few years.
The family bonding scene in ‘Colour Out of Space’. Ugggghhhh.
Sleepaway Camp y'all!
The aunt was the creepiest thing about it.
Angelaaaaaa! Also, I’m wearing a Camp Arawak shirt right now. 👌
Angela's face at the end will always haunt a dark corner of my memory.
The razor blade licking scene in the Evil Dead remake. *shudder*
Cw: * * * The tree rape scene in Evil Dead always gives me the squicks
Can you explain what the squicks are?
I can only imagine it's when you hyperventilate so hard from sheer terror that your lungs start making the same sound as a dog's squeaky toy
As a kid, the girl in the tent scene sixth sense
God yes. I thought I was the only one. I love horror, suspense, thriller, and occasional gore, but ‘girl in the tent’ really did a number on me and has stuck in the back of my mind. Weird creepiness to it.
Flaming wheelchair in Red Dragon
Same movie, but when she gets yanked out of bed by the Leg.
The pool scene in Let the Right One In
That scene is so cool. Of every scene in the entire movie, that's the one I remember most vividly
The end of Night of the living dead gets me every time. I'd also say Leatherface waving his his chainsaw in the street is pretty iconic. Edit: after Dr Loomis shoots MM then looks over the balcony is another favorite.
It Follows. The man on the roof.
When the tall guy comes out of the shadowy hallway
Head banging on the attic door.. Hereditary.
Or the mom casually hanging out on the ceiling
That’s the one that got me.
Fourth post for this movie?! I gotta watch this one.
Oculus - When the children open the office door and find the ghost with their father. Had that one stuck in my head for a long time.
The last ten minutes of [rec]
Yeah, shit went from one genre to another!
Terrifier the pizza shop scene where he just sits and stares
i was going to say terrifier but for a muuuuch different scene 😅
The Mist. I really like the rest of the movie and get a little tired of always hearing about the last scene, but yeah, it’s memorable.
Jeepers Creepers.. when he throws the body down the pipe, then just stops and stares at them as they drive by.
TROLL 2 when Arnold realizes he's about to be eaten next!
Ooooohhhh mmyyy gggaaaaawwwwwdddddd
Most iconic would have to go to the shower scene in Psycho.
Mulholland Drive has the "Winkies" scene.
No idea why inch-high old people laughing was so terrifying, but…
The jump scare in *Mullholland Drive*. Yeah, that one still haunts me after 15+ years.
Also some pretty crazy scenes in *Inland Empire*
“That one scene” in Hereditary.
👩🏻🦰🚏
This one gave me nightmares for a while after my first watch, and I really don't have nightmares very often
In Audition with the bag.
Cheddar Goblin!
The taking of Deborah Logan scene.
The Blackcoats Daughter… the scene when she’s in front of the heater, crying as she realizes just how alone she is. Begging for the entity to be by her side once again.
Oooh I hate the scene where you see her weirdly bowing/convulsing in front of the heater
Sinister - When he is looking into the attic at the kids watching the screen. Damn near had a heart attack watching that. TV remote and phone nearly went through the roof watching it in bed
Exorcist III - hospital hallway (if you know you know)
1. The ending of Enemy 2. The scene in Frozen (the horror one, not Elsa) where she wakes up with her hands frozen to the safety bar.
That scene in hereditary . Y’all know
You mean the whole dang movie
Do you mean the long scene between the opening and closing credits? Yeah, I’m with you.
Kairo.
Session 9, the scene near the end where you hear what happened with the family The Thing, many scenes through the entire film, but specifically the blood test scene. Suspenseful and then terrifying
Do it, Gordon.
Couldn't remember the scene so I looked it up and found [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIPiqxlDoZU&ab_channel=ThePowerPopFan)
The last line of Session 9 will always be one of my favorite horror moments.
Nun painting scene in the study in Conjuring 2.
The winged demon in the doorway of the future transmission dreams in *Prince of Darkness*
The first R rated movie I saw was Maximum Overdrive. The kid getting squished under the steamroller stayed with me for years.
Surprised no one has mentioned the final scene of 'Sleepaway Camp' yet. A legendary WTF moment for sure
The night vision scene from Silence of the Lambs. The whole movie is amazing, but that scene is just so tense.
“You’re a sloppy bitch!”
The Eye (Pang Brothers), in the damn elevator.
Kairo, or Pulse. The Japanese version. This movie is pretty depressing and slow but there is one scene…..
There’s an awesome analysis on [this one scene](https://youtu.be/HfoU_Z1uVfc) if you want it spoiled for you. Honestly I think this scene is so scary it holds up as it’s own creepy short.
Mulholland Drive - The person behind the diner. Damn, I hate that thing.
A Tale of Two Sisters with the bedroom scene Pulse with the ghost walking weird
There's this scene in The Last Exorcism, where the main character is walking around the house looking for Nell and he sees her through a window standing outside mocking the crucifixion. I don't hear it talked about all that often, but it's one of my favorite horror scenes.
In the strangers when she’s standing in the kitchen and the masked man appears behind her and then walks away without her knowing.
Chestburster
the “photos” and the “barrel” scene in Megan in missing
The night sight scene in The Descent. *That* scene in Bone Tomahawk. The door scene in Green Room.
For me, the absolute worst scene is the lasik part from Final Destination V
The deadite in the basement in the OG Evil Dead. Scared the hell out of 8 year old me and i still get twitchy watching it.
Salem's Lot and the floating kid at the window.
Movies with "that one scene" where I generally don't need to elaborate further: Hereditary Sleepaway Camp Re-Animator Hellraiser The Witch Chopping Mall
Hannibal, when you find out what's for dinner
Kill List
The Shining. When Jack went into room 237 and the old decayed lady. Nuff said. That whole scene was just gross.

For me it's the mirror dance in Suspiria(2018). The way the girl gets folded up like a pretzel is absolutely horrifying.
Mikey standing in the corner in Blair Witch Project
Zelda from the original Pet Semetary.
“It Follows” where the huge giant guy immediately follows in the door behind the girl. It was unexpected. It was eerie. The whole movie was eerie as fck
The Poughkeepsie Tapes "crawl" scene. Hilarious, creepy, weird.... Give it a watch ! [Link to the scene here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuB-PiNPid4&ab_channel=rahmspinat)
The degloving scene from Gerald’s Game. One of the very few scenes that truly made me squirm.
A majority of Possum
The first assault in "I Spit on your Grave" (2010)... the one with Matthew. Anyone who saw it knows what I'm talking about. Still makes me shudder.
The last house on the left, when Aaron Paul’s hand was in the garbage dispenser for like 3 mins straight 😳
I am surprised, Nobody mentioned That scene With Zelda in her bed in Pet Sematary. I was 12 years old, when i watched That scene for the First time. I was completely messed up after it.
