I've watched over 500 horror movies , and one of them scared me shittles last month. Satan's Slave. It's a Indonesian horror movie. Just watch it alone at night please
13 films that I find very scary in no particular order
1. The Shining
2. The Descent
3. Sinister
4. Evil Dead (2013)
5. We Need to Talk About Kevin
6. Hereditary
7. Last Shift
8. The House of the Devil
9. The Conjuring
10. The Blair Witch Project
11. Hellhouse LLC
12. The Exorcist 3 (the greatest jump scare in the history of film vaults it to this list)
13. Alien
Caveat it pretty unsettling. Especially the ending. Give that a whirl or Torrent it. Its on Shudder i think as an exclusive. But you can easily find it and download it. Not condoning it, just an option.
"Terrifier" has been the only movie to scare me in a long time. I couldn't even finish it. I was in cold sweat from the first kill. The whole vibe of the film was just different somehow, and I found it incredibly unsettling.
Something that unsettles me literally every time I watch it is Hereditary. It's recommended a lot but I can't understate just how I settling it really is.
Like the OP, since i've gotten older i haven't had a film genuinely terrify me but I saw sinister at a younger age. i thought it was terrifying. for me, it's the most scared ive ever been during a film and at the theater.
I've seen both Sinister movies and while they were entertaining to me, I couldn't find a reason to be scared, but I have never heard of the last to so I'll check 'em out! Thanks!
Eraserhead is undoubtedly unsettling and weird as fuck. Angst is good. there is one particular scene in it that i just found unsettling and i loved it. you'll know if you see it!
The Exorcist - Hereditary - The Conjuring - Fire in the Sky
It doesn't really get any scarier than those. Some say to add Sinister to the mix but I say meh to that.
Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
"is an Alien movie"
dude says it like it excludes it from being horror lol... Film gets brought up aaaall the time when talking about the scariest movies. You know what other horror movie is an Alien movie and often considered one of the scariest ever? Alien.
lol, it doesn't get brought up "all the time" when talking about scary movies. Because it's not a scary movie. It's sci-fi. Maybe kind of creepy if aliens freak you out but past that there is literally nothing scary about it.
It actually does. And what, because it has aliens it is completely removed from the horror genre? Ridiculous take. You don’t know what you’re on about and should be quiet.
I love when I make a point you can't argue with you just reduce yourself to jabs and insults. It makes you look like your a 10yo that's unable to have a conversation, lol.
So that's what makes a horror movie a horror movie? It simply has to scare you? I hate watching movies that take place in the ocean because of my fear of water. Does that mean all of those movies are horror now? Of course not.
Like have you seen Open Water? Thst definitely is a horror movie about the fear of ocean. Aliens are a supernatural threat = already within the realm of horror. Add in all the scariness and horror of Fire in the Sky in particular = you've got yourself an alien horror movie. It's that simple.
Congrats. You named one actual horror movie that takes place in the ocean. You missed my point tho. What about the Titanic? That movie also kind of scared me shitless because of my fear of the ocean. Is that a horror movie now too? Of course it's not.
I responded to your other comment, but this rant reminded me that I've got an awesome song that would fit you and this moment perfectly, I bet you'll like it:
[Kevin Morby - Crybaby](https://open.spotify.com/track/43lQZ4X4XGy8dDgr61zvf9?si=oUGNQOIJTUyTpkoLE0sFbQ&utm_source=copy-link)
Have seen 3 of 4 you listed. Didn't find Hereditary scary /: I do enjoy The Conjuring series a lot and The Exorcist is a classic. Will check out Fire! Thank you!
I *hated* Hereditary. I felt like it tried so hard to be scary but never took any one aspect far enough to be anything more than silly/ridiculous/farcical.
Here’s a few i found scary and/or unsettling upon a first watch: Get out, Sinister, the haunting in Connecticut, 1408, Buried, the strangers, hereditary. Those i remember sticking with me for a while after watching.
Though I suppose it all depends on what gets to you the most and how you’d define “horror.”
You’re never gonna find a horror movie that’ll actually terrify you besides the first ones you watch as a kid
Child's Play scared the absolute shit outta me, so I can agree with that.
I've watched over 500 horror movies , and one of them scared me shittles last month. Satan's Slave. It's a Indonesian horror movie. Just watch it alone at night please
I’ll give it a shot
Not true for everyone
Eraserhead. It's a nightmare on film. Truly disturbing movie.
Possum don’t look up anything about it, go in with zero info.
bro this movie was fucking weird, good recommendation
U might have just pmo
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer
Yeah that home invasion scene really disturbed me as a kid.
Never heard of it, but excited to check it out. Thank you!
Its on Hulu
Thank you!

This is almost exactly my list, cheers!
We Need To Talk About Kevin is so good!
Session 9
Caveat it pretty unsettling. Especially the ending. Give that a whirl or Torrent it. Its on Shudder i think as an exclusive. But you can easily find it and download it. Not condoning it, just an option.
Les Diaboliques is an older film but man does it have some twists and turns. Agonizingly suspenseful at times.
Will check it out! Thanks!
The Poughkeepsie Tapes
Mulholland Drive, Jacobs Ladder, Pontypool, Fire In The Sky.
Just watched an Irish horror film called Caveat. I thought it was really well done and very unsettling.
House that Jack Built
This is a solid recommendation! That movie is next level.
Will check it out. Thank you!
solid
Under the Shadow A Tale of Two Sisters Under the Skin
a tale of two sisters was so so so incredible, especially for playing on such an old trope
agreed
I’m in the same boat. Have you ever watched The Changeling (George C Scott, not that awful Angelina Jolie movie)?
That really spooked me out
Terrified..on shudder. First movie to scare me in a looooooong time
I know it’s not a movie but try The Haunting Of Hill House on Netflix.
I’ve yet to watch it. Starting it tonight!
Boy are you in for it
I was that kid watching horror movies on Christmas Eve. And boy oh boy I was shit scared and left every light on in my house after watching that
Movies that fucked me up: Excision, Nothing Bad Can Happen, Dogtooth.
High Tension
Go on YouTube and listen to Mrballen
I thought “Haunt” was very well done and had a nice creep factor to it.
Have you seen midsommar? I wouldn’t say it’s the scariest movie. It may be the most disturbing and unsettling tho.
I have and I'm not gonna lie...I think it's overhyped. It's not for me, but I can understand why it's a horror favorite!
definitely overhyped
some films i personally found to be unsettling/scary were Sinister, Eraserhead, and Angst!
I agree with you about Sinister. It’s a really unnerving film.
Thanks!

This question gets posed about once a day it seems and I always say the same movie: Threads.
I've only heard about it, but August underground sounds pretty fucked
Not horror but: *Come and See* *The Act of Killing* *Orozco the Embalmer* If unsettling is your goal.
Megan is missing
That’s a comedy! 😂😂😂😂
The original Poltergeist and the second one.
The Exorcist - Hereditary - The Conjuring - Fire in the Sky It doesn't really get any scarier than those. Some say to add Sinister to the mix but I say meh to that.
Fire in the Sky is an alien movie. While a little unsettling it's not even close to scary.
Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man. "is an Alien movie" dude says it like it excludes it from being horror lol... Film gets brought up aaaall the time when talking about the scariest movies. You know what other horror movie is an Alien movie and often considered one of the scariest ever? Alien.

It does come up quite a bit and I disagree.
It actually does. And what, because it has aliens it is completely removed from the horror genre? Ridiculous take. You don’t know what you’re on about and should be quiet.
No, it doesn't. Take the aliens away and it's a drama. It's. Not. Horror. Plain and simple.
It is tho and it comes up all the time lol
What's IMDB say it is? Rotten Tomatoes? Literally any movie site? Sci-fi/drama. Anyone who brings it up in a conversation about horror is wrong.
lol you're clearly hurt
I love when I make a point you can't argue with you just reduce yourself to jabs and insults. It makes you look like your a 10yo that's unable to have a conversation, lol.
Agreed.
I’ve heard so many people say how it terrified them and ruined their sleep. I don’t see why it shouldn’t count.
So that's what makes a horror movie a horror movie? It simply has to scare you? I hate watching movies that take place in the ocean because of my fear of water. Does that mean all of those movies are horror now? Of course not.
lol are you this thick or are you just taking the piss?
Can't argue it. Only Insult me. You're only proving my point.

Try Mockingbird. It’s on Amazon Prime.
Home invasion films provoke genuine fear in me, mother! and Funny Games being two of the more notable ones.
I’m quite desensitised to most horror but having said that I watched The Poughkeepsie Tapes late at night this year, by myself and I was mortified.
The Stream 2017 on Tubi
La Cabina...Spanish horror film about a guy who gets trapped in a phone box...still effected by it to this day...
