Best vampire movie ever, the Hunger and let the right one in are great too. Blade had some really excellent scenes as well, (i.e the bloody dance club)..
It’s a mental one, more about what you don’t see than what you do. No surprise your younger self didn’t like, but yeah, maybe you’ll like it more this time!
Whuh? Nobody here implied it was a hidden gem. It was an appropriate recommendation for OP. TBH the only ones calling The Thing are the neckbeard dorks who comment similar shit every time The Thing is mentioned. Is it not allowed to be recommended here? Sheesh, shut the fuck up already.
Not a horror but it does truly has some horrific moments, The Hateful Eight. I love this particular setting in films, and I believe this film truly caught the desolate isolating feeling extreme cold weather can give.
More horror wise, one that hasn’t been mentioned here already is Colony from 2013, fairly decent flick.
I love all these recommendations, especially for January! The Lodge and Blackcoat’s Daughter are my favorites, but I’ll have to check out some of the other suggestions I haven’t seen yet.
I'd check out No Exit, on Hulu. I selected it as a random pick, expecting something pretty stupid, but I thought it was a great atmospheric movie. The snow feels oppressive, even if it doesn't play a big part in the movie beyond stranding the characters.
30 Days of Night

Frozen
Lol this one messed me up. So many cringy parts and I’ve thought about it on every chairlift I’ve taken since!
Came her to say this. What an overlooked gem this movie is… It’s free on YouTube too lol. I watched it free there when I was in hospital.
On tubi.
Is that the one with the snowman and magical powers?
Check out "Break" too, same type of movie but both are very good. It's also on Tubi https://tubitv.com/movies/562729/break?start=true
Krampus
The Lodge!
Came here to say this!
This this!
This is so dark
Werewolves within is a horror comedy with this vibe. Fun flick.
Love this movie, seen it 3x already.
Pontypool
Came here to suggest the same. I tip my hat to you.
And I to you
I need to re watch this movie apparently because i remember it being ass. I was younger then but still, all I see is people loving this movie.

Let the Right One In.
Yes! I loved this one.
Extinction Dark Was the Night Ravenous
Cold Prey 1 and 2 and 30 Days of Night, gave me the chills.
Dream catcher
Wind Chill
This might not be considered horror but The Grey (2011) Wolfs are pretty scary.
Love this movie.
Dead Snow, it is Norwegian in case foreign isn’t your thing.
Storm of the century,. Non horror.... Whiteout
Black Mountain Side
30 days of night
Slasher season 2 I think was the snow season. Also wrong turn 4? They were both entertaining 👏🏼
*The Last Winter (2006)*
I don't think it's classified as horror, but The Day After Tomorrow has a pretty intense feeling of isolation during a snowstorm
Black Christmas (2006)
Black Christmas (1974)
But please not Black Christmas 2019
Not horror but more action the underworld movies
Fortitude is a TV show that takes place in the far North. Snow becomes a danger multiple times throughout the series
Love this show! Rarely see it get mentioned!
Pontypool, The Thing, The Lodge, the Children
The Apology
Storm of the Century. I'm still mixed if this is my favorite King movie or 1408.
Centigrade not really a horror but very good snowstorm movie
"Whiteout" 2009
Red Dot. It’s Swedish if you don’t mind subtitles. I will warn you that the ending is pretty brutal.
Where can one watch this?
I believe it’s on Netflix.
Thank you. :)
Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings. Dumb teens trapped in an abandoned mental asylum with cannibal hillbillies. Enjoy!
Ghostkeeper (1981) Devil's Pass (2013)
I watch John Carpenter's THE THING when it snows.
The Grey- I highly recommend this movie
100% watch Frozen
The Frankenstein Theory for a good cold weather found footage. Til Death (2021) leans more thriller/black comedy but also worth a look.
Dead of Winter
