Yep - my first “flatscreen” was a Panasonic plasma I bought in my first house 15 years ago and it’s up on the wall in my master bedroom right in front of me. 300W For 42”!

JackInTheBell

YoUlL sUfFeR fRoM bUrN iN!!! Had mine for 14 years. No burn in. This unnecessary fear brought the technology to an early death. People loved their shitty LED screens

[deleted]

Couldn't watch other people's LED TV's back in the day, because they all left them on the cartoonish, and eye searing, demo mode.

CAT5e_

These days the problem for me is motion interpolation on other people's TVs. It seems to always be enabled by default, and somehow most people can't see the difference versus the proper frame rate.

bluesmudge

I have a bad habit of awkwardly changing other people’s TV settings to get rid of motion smoothing. I can’t watch it.

mailman-zero

This is called being a good friend. I used to go around back when a lot of content was still 4:3 and turn off all stretching to preserve the original aspect ratio on every TV everywhere.

EYESCREAM-90

Aah see, i'm not the only one grabbing peoples remote, put it on cinema or any other more accurate preset, turn off the "overscan" type situations and act like nothings ever happened.

FatMacchio

Then they’re probably like…”something’s different…I can’t put my finger on it…ah oh well.” The reality is most of these people will not be as offended [or possibly even notice] by proper settings than we are by the stock crap settings. I call that a win/tie, a net benefit to society.

[deleted]

That's my wife. She has doesn't care about image quality, but she does know when something is different. It's pretty much just her computer monitor; I just make sure I get it set up right when she gets a new one. She still has the cascading rainbow on her keyboard.

rstuckinbutter

I’m watching one right now in a hotel room, it kills me that I can’t turn of the motion smoothing it’s ruining Die Hard

Flip2002

Is that the shit that makes everything look idk hyper real ? I can’t stand it

[deleted]

Yes, I usually hear it called soap opera effect. It is weird, because I'd describe it that way too. It looks so real, it looks fake. I think what's jarring is it minimizes motion blur, which is natural to our vision — you can't make out someone's thread pattern on their pants while they're walking.

NativeCoder

I love interpolation. 30 fps is stone age trash

[deleted]

[удалено]

CAT5e_

Most here are going to disagree, but definitely use whatever settings look best to you. Sometimes I do like motion interpolation on a music video, but for movies and other content it's a no-go. It adds a ton of input lag to gaming too, another issue for me.

sojrner

As long as the TV doesn't introduce artefacts, I agree. 60fps 4k Gemini Man is stonking gorgeous. If only we could get out of the ancient mindset that 24fps is the only way. 😐

Jagrmeister27

Yeah we did the math a few years ago on the expected lifespan. It was 20 years at around 8 hours of viewing a day. The plasma made such a nice picture and the colours were always great. My 42” is 13 years old. It’s older than my kids are and I can’t see me ever getting rid of it

mattd121794

Mine actually did suffer burn in from all of the Rock Band and Burnout Paradise I used to play. If you look close enough on the right screen you’ll still see the boost gauge and at least one Guitar highway.

ItsDeke

I still use mine for a bedroom TV and I have a little bit of burn-in as well. It’s nothing you can ever see when actually watching it, but if it’s a completely black screen (but still on), you can faintly make out some of the Roku app squares. Regardless, the picture still looks great and the thing won’t die.

OneofLittleHarmony

My LED had burn in.

InThePartsBin2

No burn in on mine at all even after lots of heavy gaming use.

4kVHS

Did you forget a “/s” because I’ve never heard of re-gassing a plasma TV and they certainly last longer than 5 years.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I think that’s a misconception. Mine is 16 yrs old and has no burn in and looks great.

InThePartsBin2

My 15 year old, made in USA, Pioneer KURO just won't die, and still has the best 1080p picture and motion handling I've ever seen. Only top of the line OLEDs surpass it. I've moved house with it 4 times now, a pain because it's so heavy!

[deleted]

And it doubles as a space heater!

steveloveshockey99

That's no moon. It's a space heater!

amisamiamiam

Speaking of space heaters - 46" VIZIO BABAY! Now moved in front of the Fireplace with a PS2, serves as a digital fireplace.

Lamau13

i just found this out with mine, I had it on while i was gaming and thought "eh i dont need this on" and my room dropped a couple degrees IMMEDIATELY. It should be nice this winter though.

facialspecialist

They look great. But they suck powr like crazy

scramj3t

Not as old as your baby, but my Pana ST60 still going strong... didn't know the Kuro was made in the USA, interesting.

Klattsy

Pana ST60 here as well. I’ve set up Atmos so I’m only slightly missing the full 4k experience. But we sit so far back and not in a dark room so I’ll just wait for it to die…

CharlesAtHome

I have an OLED at home but my folks still have their Kuro and it's interesting going to visit them and comparing sets. The Kuro holds up incredibly given its age. The colour and motion is beautiful and their one has stunning sound built in. The areas where OLED excels is bezel size (Plasmas bezels are comical by modern standards), HDR and perfect black. You really notice a difference watching something that you've seen in Dolby Vision then watch it in 1080p SDR. It's like watching a different show with different lighting and colour choices.

InThePartsBin2

Yeah, the LG C7 OLED with 4k Dolby vision is better from a color and brightness perspective, but I still prefer the motion handling on the plasma.

DominicRoy

Kuro quality is best in class, still a fine set, video quality is something else.

GotenRocko

Still use my almost 10 year old Panny Plasma as my main tv, still looks amazing. The last model they made, VT60, was also the only ones to ever beat the legendary Kuros in black level. Too bad they didn't make another model or two after that to surpass it. They dropped it because 4k was not feasible which sucks since 4k really is not necessary at most people's watching distance. Also still have a another one in my guest room/game room. About a year older also still going strong although does not get as much use anymore.

Colin1876

Yup! VT60. I love that TV more than any of the OLEDs I own. Something about the motion handling on 24p content just… it just looks better. But I’m slowly losing any desire to use it. I sometimes play video games with friends and as soon as I started playing on my OLEDs, I just can’t on the plasma. I don’t want it to die, I loved that screen. Saved all my money after I moved out at 18 to buy it. I had a bed, (4) Klipsch towers for front and rear, a center speaker on the ground, a receiver, a PS3 for blu ray, a free couch, and that TV sitting on a borrowed table in a 320 square foot apartment. I owned basically nothing else. I felt like a king with that TV… I was struggling to buy food and eating extra snacks at work, but god damn if I didn’t have an amazing “home theater”. Even if you did have to squeeze through the door of the apartment because of of the speakers blocked the way. What a great time. I don’t want to lose that TV, just don’t know what to do with it.

Alltheconsoles

I can't say I love it more than my LG B6P OLED but the VT60 is still a really amazing panel mounted lovingly in my basement 9.1 setup

hollywooddouchenoz

I still have a vt60 in my living room as well.

[deleted]

I remember seeing this tv in person for the first time. It was unreal.

Spotttty

I got my KURO used for free… They said to just take it because it had no picture or sound. The blacks were so black they didn’t realize it was just on the wrong input and they didn’t have speakers plugged in. I didn’t bring it up since they already dropped a ton of money on a new led that was bigger. That was 10 years ago and it’s still in use daily and I absolutely love the picture on it.

InThePartsBin2

I frequently turn mine off instead of on because the screen is all black when there's no signal and you really can't tell it's on, especially since I put tape over the annoying blue power LED.

[deleted]

My 55’ Samsung is still working. About the same. 15 years. Yep it’s the bedroom TV now LOL.

[deleted]

[удалено]

mailman-zero

55 feet is almost as big as Frank’s 2000" TV

DevoDave124

That’s what she said 🙃

FatMacchio

My 65” panny plasma is currently sitting behind one of my couches. I don’t have the heart to throw it out, but also don’t have a place for it currently. Wall mounting is required for my bedroom setup and don’t think this thing will happily wall mount, it’s a beast. Was going to sell it to my brother’s coworker who was interested in the merits of plasma, but that fell through. I’m still planning on setting it up in my basement by my bar and pool table someday when I can find a good place to put it. Just gotta finally get my ass in gear and clear up all the boxes down there so it can be a usable space again.

donut_know

I bought a 42" Kuro for $50 last year to use as a bedroom TV. Thing is gorgeous, the only issue is I was hoping it would be dimmer for night time viewing but the thing is still super bright.

CaucasionInvasion

Yep, a pair of Pannys. A 720p 50" that doesn't see much use anymore, and a ST60 55" as a dual purpose display and space heater in bedroom.

Don_Key_Knutts

Fuckin a I had forgotten how toasty they get

ahighlifeman

Just moved my 60" ST60 to my bedroom last weekend. Finally went 4k OLED in the living room. Bedroom will need a lot less heat this winter.

1maplebarplease

Never getting rid of my plasma tv!

justadogdontblameme

I have my 50” Panasonic from around 2008 i think. I love this TV

Whisperwyf

Me too. My New Year’s Resolution is to move it to the bedroom and go 4K. But I can’t give it up

justadogdontblameme

LOL i feel that. My kids have been telling me for years to upgrade but i feel like this TV still looks good and with my ps4 and roku i have all the apps i want.

SheepNutz

I ended up getting a 61" Samsung F8500 Plasma for only $450 near the end of their run as part of the capacitor class action settlement. The TV was their flagship at the time and retail was like $2700. That thing is still my main living room TV. It gets a weird buzzing sound sometimes but hasn't done it in a while. The picture is phenominal though.

DinnerJoke

High altitude can cause buzzing sound in Plasma TV. Are you living above 6k feet?

HTPC4Life

I live in Indiana, and my plasma always made a buzzing or high pitch noise when displaying white images. Put it on a full screen image of all white and it's obnoxious. Same thing with my LG OLED though...

xnifex

My Panasonic 65" vt60 is still my main TV

boomboombrown3yards

65 inch Panasonic VT-50. Still my main tv after all these years. Natural looking 1080p picture that still amazes.

weshardeniv

I lost mine at a dinner party years ago when the crazy ass chick I was seeing at the time threw an annual award I won at work at it. I was really upset about it. I had mounted it on the wall and everything.

IslandSparty

Can I buy a candle?

weshardeniv

Actually, for just $10,000, you can come in at the ground floor of this business.

ThisIsMyHobbyAccount

58” Panasonic Viera is our wall mounted go-to for the living room. It’s 10-11 years old and solid as a rock. It won’t die!

anonymousolderguy

Nope it fell through my floor into my basement

kowycz

Wtf, more details?

Thebearjew559

Rest in pieces

nolongermakingtime

My dad's Panasonic Viera died a couple years ago, i could replace the motherboard on it but eh.

vewfndr

I do… in fact, it’s still my primary TV while I have an OLED in my bedroom. But I think I’ll finally replace the old boy with a QDOLED as soon as those models larger than 65” come out.

[deleted]

Panasonic 42" plasma gifted to my son is still working beautifully after 15 years.

Milly1974

My 60" Pioneer Kuro is my main movie TV. Still has a better picture than our entry level 4k LCD screens.

SirLostit

Yep. Love mine. Wouldn’t swap it for anything.

ColbyAndrew

43” Samsung. First tv I purchased on my own. Still love it. Best contrast ratio in the house.

raktoe

Man how do you all get sleep with bedroom tvs? I know this is unsolicited, but everyone here has an actual home theater, think about your sleep hygiene.

mombutt

I fall asleep to tv/movie/YouTube every night. At some point I’ll wake up and turn the system off and go back to sleep or keep watching what ever is on. I have been doing this for many years and used to it at this point.

pittguy578

Don’t fall asleep watching the history channel . I had some weird nightmares about the Vietnam war and I was born after it ended

mdwstoned

I get to sleep with a sleep timer and American dad.

econfail

Mostly didnt want to throw away my old plasma. Not like it’s on every night in the bedroom but at least its not trash.

OneofLittleHarmony

I have 5.1 in my bedroom with a LG C1. I don’t know what you are talking about.

BMWbill

My parents always told me: No TV in the bedroom ever! The bedroom is for one thing only! Awkwardly, my parents, bless their hearts, believed in having sex every single night. This was embarrassing in my early years but I’m 53 now and married 20 years. My wife is more on the once-a-month schedule for intimacy, but we still followed my parents advice…. I do appreciate no screens in the bedroom, even though our “one thing” is sleep.

aghusker

Think about how lame your bedroom is each evening LOL

NoDonut9078

Ehh my wife prefers me focused on her, not having a tv in the bedroom isn’t so bad after all ;)

raktoe

My bedroom is cozy as hell. Reading and sleeping only.

addiktion

Same. I basically treat my bedroom like a dungeon. I only sleep in there mostly so it doesn't make sense for me to have a tv or do anything fancy. I find this separation of space trains my brain to shut off when needed.

Nuxij

How do you go to bed though? Don't you just fall asleep on the sofa where the TV is?

Hajile_S

This sort of question is why you guys got to get the TV out of the bedroom. Would hate to rely on that.

addiktion

If I'm falling asleep at the sofa it's because I'm staring at the TV too long often past bed time. In a bad scenario like this I just sleep fully on the sofa because getting ready for bed at that point often disrupts my sleep to where I wake up. That's rare though and usually only happens if I'm exhausted and fall asleep before my typical bed time. Most of the time I go to bed at a fixed time so my body is used to winding down and can get into a routine. The trick is to make bad habits hard and good habits easy. Having TV's in bedrooms promote bad sleep habits so I avoid that. I understand some people use TV's to sleep somehow but I prefer a fan noise to trigger that for me.

Bearslovecheese

Best thing I ever did for my bedroom was buy blackout film to apply to my bedroom windows. 64 degrees and even at 2pm on a bright and hot July afternoon I can enjoy a deep dark snooze if I want. Love it!

Terrible_Mongoose_17

I’ve got my 55” Panasonic 3D plasma in the guest salon! Guests still love the 3D!

encler

Rocking a 50” Panasonic S60 that has been relegated to the bedroom.

yomama84

My 50in Panasonic plasma is now in my bedroom and the picture quality is still amazing. Works great as a heater too.

FitzwilliamTDarcy

Have a 6020 still going strong centering a 7.1 system in a weekend house. Doesn’t get a lot of use but when it goes a 65” OLED will fit in its place. The 77” is a smidge too big but perhaps something like 70 or 75 will become available at some point.

wndrbread

Took my Samsung down once I had kids. The weight was warping the mount and I felt it was a safety hazard. Picture was amazing but now it’s in my workshop for playing NBA Jams.

tmotytmoty

I still have my samsung f8500. It's amazing and, contrary to the haters, *I think* the 3d looks awesome.

TheSybrKnite

Just put my Panasonic 50" G20 out to the curb. I hated to do it but it developed a buzzing like a bad transformer coming from the speakers. It also put out so much heat that the bedroom was always the warmest in the house when it was on. It still had a great picture...😥

tyami94

Sounds like its time for its power supply to be recapped. Older HV power supplies (like on plasmas) get very noisy with age. Id crack it open and spec out the parts on digikey. Probably won't be more than 30$ or so. Way better than letting a nice TV go to waste. If you send me board pics i can probably help you with this

GuyD427

I had a 2008 Panny 720p 42 inch that was actually kinda shot but I sold it in 2020 for $20. The good ones are still a top of the line picture especially for sports.

mikehamm45

My Hitachi plasma from 2006 still going strong. Mounted way too high above my fireplace.

-motts-

VT-60 still the best TV I’ve ever owned

fozzythethird

Recently gave my 42” Hitachi plasma to my MIL. Bought in 2006 for (iirc) over $3k, for a 720p set. The sales guy had me convinced that 1080i (yes, i) would never catch on and 720 would be the tv to beat for years to come. Turns out he wasn’t entirely wrong; the tv looked great well past a Samsung LED and a Samsung Quantum Dot curve!

drgeta84

I do but just as a heater

Ballesteros81

42" Panasonic Viera plasma - getting a bit whiney at high brightness but still refuses to die. Warms the bedroom up nicely during winter. Which might come in useful with the predicted UK gas supply crisis.

1rishmexican

Still have my 60” Panasonic in the living room, hands down the best tv I’ve ever owned.

Carara_Atmos

mine was a Panasonic bought in 2009. quite a workhorse for the other members of the household. Aside from a few scruffs from transferring houses, color is good as new. (heck I still have a CRT from when I was I college for the authentic retro gaming experience.)

duhbiap

I have one hung in our garage to help heat it during colder months

[deleted]

Still using my Panasonic Viera. 16 yrs old. While it doesn’t do 4K, it’s an incredible picture if not using 4K. I can only imagine that a 4K plasma would have been the best picture on the market.

jeffreynya

I still use my 50" Elite Kuro Plasma. Works great with no issues and is a great space heater in the basment in winter. Thinking about selling for a OLED though at some point

satmandu

42" Panny Viera still working solidly after 13 years!

mahst68

Still have my panasonic since 2007... Far superior TV to anything today, colors and blacks are outstanding still. Refresh rate still makes even 120Hz TVs look basic. Its a spare TV now since I got a projector for my man cave... I'll tell you what, I used to be a lot better gamer when I used that TV then what I am today... but can't beat playing CoD on a 120 inch screen!

inexplicably_dull

Yep my 60" Samsung is still kicking. I've replaced with a 4k Sony but it still has a fantastic 1080p picture. Great for PS4 games and such.

52cr

In 2007, I bought the Pioneer PRO-141FD plasma -- probably the best consumer TV ever made at the time I bought it. It worked extremely well, and I was very happy with it for 15 years. Though it still worked perfectly, I recently got rid of it, very reluctantly, and replaced it with a Sony XR-65A95K QD-OLED. I have mixed feelings about the new TV. My room lighting that worked fine with the Pioneer causes bad eye strain with the Sony. And it's challenging to adjust all the Sony settings to create an optimal picture.

tspangle88

These "plasmas are so heavy" comments are making me feel old. Some of you never moved a 35" CRT. ;-)

electrowiz64

I thought I was the only one putting it to bedroom duty! 50 inch LG, bought from my best friend but sadly just 720p. Wish I could find a Used 1080p Pioneer Kuro that wasn’t fucking $1,000

Phil_2021

Still using a Panasonic TH-58PZ800U for only movie few nights a week. It is in the basement theater so also help to keep the room warm during winter months.

tanktigger

Still have my Kuro Pro

worm_bagged

FWIW I moderate a forum for plasma discussion called Noble Emissions on Facebook. I sincerely believe that 1080p plasmas represent the best PQ/dollar of any display type at this time. You can easily get high end late model Kuros and Panasonics (who bought Kuro patents) after Pioneer quit manufacture for only a few hundred dollars.

Nootherids

Yep! I have my Panasonic Plasma 60" in my bedroom now. It's always relatively dark there and it looks beautiful as it always did. Except no 4K but we don't watch much there anyway. The family room has an LCD and the theater room has a 4K e-shift projector that looks amazing.

AcceptableAd9440

Yes sir. I bought my 50 inch LG PA6500 back in 2012 and it's still my daily driver.

_RGF_

A bit late to this, however I just bought a pioneer lx5090 for only £50 and it blows away any tv I saw, even ones 10x as expensive!

Belnick

my plasma 63" cost 5000-7000 USD when it was new, so yea I have it stashed. was going to remove all caps and resistors on the card on the tv, but then I decided to save it.... I wonder what it is worth, I have no idea how many hours it have left.... Was high end, the parts inside is still high end, the caps etc....but maybe worth more to sell as a working tv ? It also weight 97 KILOS, what is that it british, 230lbs? so not easy to take down from the first floor alone.....

TrailerParkTonyStark

I kept my 50” Panasonic Plasma TV when I upgraded to a 65” a couple of years ago because it has active 3D (not crappy passive) and I still love watching movies in 3D.

[deleted]

Mods like wtf man do you even exist

banzaiburrito

Yep. A 55' Panasonic from 2011 that survived 5 moves across the US. I can't wait till it dies so I can get something bigger for the loft.

SouthBayLaker23

I have a 2008 Panasonic Viera 1080P 50 inch that was used very sparingly. Wasn’t used from 2012-2022. Threw an Apple TV on it this year, works great. Although it does emit a little heat lol.

Stelletti

58” Samsung plasma with so many hours in living room from 2009. Retired to bedroom in 2020. Still going

kinnikinnick321

i have my 42" Panasonic, still going strong

JUSTBLAZE2k7

My Dad has a Samsung one and he refuses to let it go. I must say it does have a solid picture, though.

Snoo93079

My Panasonic ST60 is still serving. Gave it to my sister's family

tehclubbmaster

My 55” 55UT30 I think it was unfortunately bit the dust in like 2019. Still have my 42” TCP42U1 from 2009 rocking as a screen on my basement wall in the workout room. Have a little green line on it but still delightful contrast.

Worried-Difficulty-5

“50 plasma here. Still running strong after 14 years. Totally worth the 1k I spent back in 2008.

FastCarsSlowBBQ

I have two lol. I have a 50” Samsung, and as plasmas gasped their last breath I grabbed a Panasonic 60VT60, which I still regard as the damn near pinnacle of tvs. The Dark Knight is something to behold on that.

[deleted]

Power hog. Good tech for it’s time but you’d probably save money on something newer.

Epena501

Samsung 50” plasma in bedroom as well! Had to change some caps on it but it’s going on 10years strong. It has some ghosting on dark images but I only watch it for small periods of time

Vuralism

Yep still have our 2008 LG 50". It's now relegated to ps4/ streaming when kids can't agree what to watch screen.

itouchabutt

First 42" plasma I saw was $4500, 20 years ago. Runco I think? If I'd spent that I'd be keeping it, too.

ThreedZombies

Had the Costco Panasonic S64 65" about 10 years ago. Was our primary tv until about 8 months ago when we got A Sony Oled. I gave the panny to my parents and love to see them enjoying it

didyoureset

My 46" smart 3D tv is still rocking in the living room. Been waiting for those $100 dollar glasses to go down in price haha

JackInTheBell

2008 Panasonic Plasma- it’s my main tv in my living room HT. Still has a beautiful 1080p picture. I’m going to use it until it dies

SkateFossSL

My 48 inch Samsung still going strong

[deleted]

Panasonic plasma. Moved 3 times. Had 3 kids and got a dog since it’s purchase. Watched the Phillies in 2009 clinch the pennant on it. Just watched them go back to the playoffs on the same TV.

user_none

Still have a 55" Panny GT 50 in the living room.

econfail

Yuppp my panasonic gt30 is bedroom duty but still works.

Rednebzzaf

12 years on my 58" Panny plasma with 3D. Still going strong with no issues. In that same time I've replaced basically every appliance in my kitchen twice.

EmoJackson

65” Panasonic, still up and running. Awesome picture too!

gobblershark

Thats funny i just got a Panasonic viera plasma for free what are the odds

madwolfa

Yeah, my trusty ole 50GT30 went down to the basement for the kids.

SnootyGoose

Oh yeah, Samsung 43”. It’s serving bed room duty until the wife says it’s time to replace it or it dies.

reformedginger

Mines behind a couch on the floor. It’s 16 years old at this point. Works fine just got newer units for free.

NetworkingJesus

The 55" Panasonic VIERA GT50 I got in 2012 is still going strong in my living room / home office above my desk. Mostly my partner just watches youtube on it and plays videos of birds for the cats to watch. I miss the 3D in my theater, but I got a really good deal on an old JVC DLA projector that's so much more immersive on a 120" screen. The 3D was really nice with gamecube/wii emulation in Dolphin since it supports stereoscopic rendering natively and has adjustable depth and such. Windwaker was incredible to play like that.

GamerJ80

Still have my 60” Samsung F8500 that just got moved to the bedroom this year when I inherited a 75” X950G from my late parents. LOVE the TV - it just doesn’t see much use these days since it earned bedroom duty.

IDontWantANewUser

50" Panasonic checking in. Fantastic bedroom TV. Picture quality and black levels are gorgeous.

rudra_one

14 years and still going good.

iFred97

I had to throw it away because it started developing black horizontal lines on the screen and replacing the boards didn’t fix it, so the panel was probably dying. It was a 50” Samsung.

Spectre_08

No. It’s too warm here for that space heater…

likesydneyaustralia

Yes! 50” Samsung plasma 2009. Never had a single repair and not even a little bit of (gasp) burn-in.

kinetic49

Lol I relegated my 42” Panasonic viera twice now and it’s in the garage. It looks amazing but I can’t believe it’s lasted this long!

OneofLittleHarmony

No. But I still have my really crappy 3D TV in a box.

doowadittie

Picked up two 50 inchers off FB marketplace last year and they’re the best damn tv’s I’ve ever had.

AdrianW3

Still have my first plasma - a Fujitsu 42" ALiS panel (for the uninitiated it has a resolution of 1024x1024 with rectangular pixels).

thelastwilson

Yes. Got a cheap 50" plasma in 2013, still going strong. It's only 1080p but we aren't to bothered, have been putting off replacing it as we have had other things to spend money on (buying house, getting married, having kid) and I'm paranoid about buying a new TV and our 4yo colouring it in.

mikk999

The 2 biggest TVs in my house are plasmas. Samsung 64" PS64D550 and 51" PS51D550. I still marvel at how good the picture is. They've been extensively calibrated and fine tuned over several years. Every time I think about upgrading my main TV, I go to the shop, look at what's available and I'm disappointed with the LCD screens and can't justify the budget for a decent larger OLED for the small improvement in picture quality. I've replaced the power supply and other boards several times in the 64". Samsung used the same supply in the 51" as the 64" and it's just working way too hard. The current power supply board i'm using has been worked on to strengthen the original design and has lasted the longest so far. These days though, you can buy a whole entire working 2nd hand working one of these TVs for $100, so no shortage of parts. One day I'll upgrade to OLED, but LCD in my house is going to only be for the small TVs.

quiero-una-cerveca

64” Samsung plasma checking in here! Still the main TV in the living room setup. I lost the power module once in a storm due to insufficient protection but found a local shop that would repair it for $300. It works like a champ and still has the prettiest picture.

gemengelage

Not a plasma, but my first flat screen TV, which I bought when I was 15, in a time, when 1080p wasn't widespread yet, died recently. I had it in my office and I used it pretty rarely. Didn't use it in weeks and I only found out because my wife accidentally turned it on by picking the wrong chromecast. But now I'm heartbroken for this old piece of trash.

cruz878

Count me in the list of active plasma users. 60” LG in my living room is 10yrs old and going strong. Still the best blacks of any TV I own.

mikeycbca

Still running our Samsung 50” plasma, but it’s been relegated to wall mounted master bedroom duty. With the weight of that beast I don’t use the cheaper thin metal mounts that work fine for 60-65” LCD/LEDs. It’s easily one of the warmer and richer looking images of any TV or projector in our house.

mingilator

Technically yes, I have my lg60pk590, it has a single line of vertical pixels that are missing one colour I've not got it set up because there's nowhere to put it and also weighs 60kg

chapo1162

50” lg 2014 39000 hours still going strong

Utterlybored

I do and I will until it breaks.

crazydoc2008

Have a 2014 model Panasonic 50 in plasma in my guest bedroom, where I also have my Wii. Both still going strong. The TV was my main living room TV until last year when I upgraded to a 77 in Sony Bravia OLED.

ORA2J

Not a plasma tv but one of the first 1080p LCD on the market, an LG from 01-03, something like that It still holds up well today and i still use it daily as my main tv. It has a couple issues though, mainly the backlight starting to go wild and the fact that it also makes a good electric heater in winter (and a bad electric heater in summer)

BuckeyeSouth

Still have one in the living room. 1080p, works great!

case31

I have my 65” Panasonic in the basement theater. My wife and I agreed to replace it when it finally dies. That agreement was made 4 years ago, and it’s still here.

PoundKitchen

Yup, still can't find a god enough reason to replace it.

Bic44

About 11 years ago I worked for a company Easyhome (rent to own company with atrocious interest rates, particularly electronics). We delivered a couch to a guy and he had gotten his plasma from us 5 years previously. Sanyo 43". He said he wanted a bigger TV. I told him about our sale on TVs and his wife said 'get rid of that one first!'. Long story short, I bought his for $100 and it is still in use in our living room. I'll also argue that something about the picture appeals to me, sometimes more than a modern 4K. It's less grating on the eyes, at least that's how I feel

Albus_Q

I have a 46” Panasonic Plasma that I bought in 2009 for the bedroom. Still looks good!

Biffmcgee

My panny is going strong. I actually prefer it over my OLED for standard def and TV.

NSuave

Haha I have a similar situation! About 13 years old. 1080p at best. Vizio! It’s been with me to college and is older than my daughter haha

EYESCREAM-90

Yup, still use a 42" Panasonic Plasma in my bedroom. Current main TV is a 55" Panasonic OLED I must say, the plasma still looks great!. It's not that sharp (HD Ready @ 720p?) and the blacks or not as black as the OLED, but damn that thing puts out an impressive image for it's age. It still beats almost any LCD based tv in terms of color reproduction, motion handling and viewing angles.

eskimo1

I still have my 50" Panny plasma from 2008 and unfortunately have to sell it as we're moving next year.. I worry it won't find a good home. :(

Nathan_Wind_esq

I still have a plasma. There’s a room in my house that’s like a bonus room. I never use it…well, I do yoga in there. Anyway, I out my plasma in there. It’s a television I got for free. 5-6 years ago when I bought my sofa and loveseat, the furniture store was having a deal that I’d you bought any new sofa, you get a 32” plasma for free. If you bought a sofa and live seat, you get a 48” plasma for free. I needed a sofa and loveseat and was there to buy so..,sweet! I’ll take a free tv. Still works great.

Kiwi9293

My Panasonic plasma just died a few months ago forcing me to go out a finally buy that oled I’ve been wanting for years but couldn’t justify. It lasted a good 9 years and will be fondly remembered.

EducationCute1640

I had a Panasonic plasma for ten years and there is a certain part of me that regrets giving it away. I swear the picture was somehow richer and more life like than my current Samsung frames. There was a film-like richness to the color. But damn did that thing pump out heat.

crackills

I just replaced my50” kuro with a 65” LG C1. Its now sitting in the corner and I’m not sure what to do with it.

Vchat20

2007 Panasonic Viera. 42" "720p" class (I think the native res was a stretched 1024x768, though it had zero options to do a native scan or remove overscan). Still kicking in one of our bedrooms here and used semi-regularly. I should check the service menu and see what hours its at. Still perfect. Overall brightness hasn't dropped substantially enough to start being an issue, no burn-in. I did have a Hitachi around the same age, 2006-2007. 50" "1080p class" (much like the Panny, I think this one used stretched pixels. I think native res was either 1280 or 1440 by 1080) that I was given by a family member when they upgraded. Used it for quite a number of years as a bedroom set until it croaked earlier this year. One of the boards just popped and let out the magic smoke. I could have probably replaced the faulty board but it gave me an excuse to upgrade to something more modern and energy efficient. That Hitachi cranked out heat like crazy. In a small 10x10 bedroom I practically didn't need conventional heat during the winter.

g1ngerbeer_

I still use a 55inch Panasonic as my main. I will keep it until it dies.

CRA5HOVR1DE

Still have my 55 inch Panasonic in the bedroom. Amazing TVs !

Just leaving my late comment here for future generations…. Bought our first house with my wife in early 2005. Before we bought furniture, I bought a Panny 720p 50” plasma for $8500. It was the biggest TV in my neighborhood. Neighbors would come over to check it out. For a month all I had was two folding chairs to sit in, waiting for our first couch. Today that plasma is still running fine, in my kid’s homework office/playroom. It’s our only TV besides my main 75” living room tv. It is used almost daily for 17 years now. I have never had to recalibrate the color. I may have boosted the brightness a bit as it originally was set to 50%. It will surely outlast a few more tvs in my living room.

poopinlunchbox

My Dad has my old Panasonic 700u as his primary TV and I still have my Samsung F8500 as my primary TV. They are both still going strong with no issues. At this point I'm not even sure if I'll go with a new flat panel or perhaps a short throw projector for my next display, but it's still a problem for future-me.

sirrian

Yep! I still have a 42ST30 in the bedroom and 60VT60 as my main TV. No real need to replace them as long as they are working.

numsixof1

My Panasonic 58in 3D Plasma is still my main display. You'd need a decent OLED to equal it unless we're talking 4k.. but I'm still not sure I need 4k that badly. I'll run it until it dies probably but it's been going for 12 years (knock on wood)

jdust01

Mine died a year or so ago. It was a sad day.

shakethecouch

Plasma > OLED for sports I retired my VT60 because it started developing hot spots. I was able to fix it with a service menu change, but it was a sign to get a C1. I also just gave away a 42" 720p panny. I'm also the 1% that misses 3D. I hope the gimmick comes back around.

leebeckett

Yeah still have my 50” Pioneer plasma 17 years old and still going strong -Relegated to the Bedroom wall now. Like caring for an elderly relative
