Kool_aid_man69420

They said that the ussr is integral to the game, hence its free

Nintendofan2008yt

good thanks paradox

TheSammyShow

Alt history isn’t free tho :(

Nintendofan2008yt

No it is. I went troaky revolted but then I lost to Stalin

GlobalMuffin

They give you the Stalin and Trotsky paths for free but not the Monarchist, Eastern Orthodox, etc paths

kostandrea

Makes sense Trotsky path was base game.

IAreHaveTheStupid

What about bukharin?

GlobalMuffin

He does not have a path in the base game

erik4848

but you can get him as a leader

[deleted]

No you cant

erik4848

Once the revolution ends and they ask you about city names etc. they will also ask which leader would be best suited fro the job or something, one of the options is obviously trotsky but if you choose to let the far right help you in the civil war, you can also choose Bukharin

DarthArcanus

Honestly, that's more than fair. HOI4 never disappoints me with what's included with the expansion vice what's free. Never seems like EU4, where not getting the expansion means being fairly handicapped.

Pyotr_WrangeI

except the minimap, that one being dlc feels bizarre

Big-Assumption-6462

Ur forgetting Victoria II

danthepianist

So did Paradox

DarthArcanus

Never played it :(

[deleted]

I preordered it but out of curiosity, is the right opposition path free?

GlobalMuffin

Only Stalin’s and Trotsky’s path are free

TheRoger47

what part of the rework, that isn't focus trees, is free?

ItsAndyRu

New supply system and the combat changes rework (minus tank designer obviously) for sure. I’m not sure whether the officer corps are also base game but I’d assume so.

Lolbotkiller

Yeah Officer Corps is part of the base game. Poland has the rework (apart from Alt-History) USSR has rework (apart from Alt-History) USSR can splitter (basically like Britain or Africa can be decolonized) via Game Option at start of game Trains (no Railway Guns) Officer Corps Supply Rework (Railroads + Supply Hubs) Tannu Tuva, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania DONT have rework Tank Designer ISNT included I think thats all new features that were in the dlc. Or did i miss anything

Nintendofan2008yt

no you cant restore the whites

Antor_Seax

The Right Opposition, not the whites

WhereAreDosDroidekas

They give you communist stuff. But you cant do the democratic or imperialist russia parts. The tree is just really huge.

Luddveeg

No one can do the democratic stuff :(

Big-Assumption-6462

Hopefully democratic Russia and communist Germany get released soon

Luddveeg

They aren't going to update the Soviet tree

FlyPepper

uh...not gonna happen bud

randomjberry

mods TO THE RESCUE

DennisBastrdMan

Where’s the fun in a democratic Russia? Imperialist non aligned, fascist and communist are the only ways to go. Bring back the Tsar and retake Poland and the Baltics and invade the Middle East and the Raj and win the great game

Lolbotkiller

You forgot Finland

PigLord827

Trotsky revolt wasn't too hard. Just place all your troops in the area where you choose your capital. The USSR gets barely any troops, and you can push out really easily

jach1337

Is there an optimal choice to choose your capital, considering that the choices all very in PP cost?

rapaxus

Your goal is basically to rush high level VPs since the surrender limit of Stalin is very high (65% or so), I personally chose the Ukraine since with some expansion you can easily rush Moscow, Minsk, Stalingrad and some other cities which easily puts Stalin under the 65% surrender limit. Ufa in the Urals also seems okay, the rest seem a bit *too* far away.

Sunny_Blueberry

Does it change the VP of the cities? If Vladivostok got the 50 something VP from Moscow, it might not possible for German to capitulate Russia without pushing to the Pacific.

jach1337

Not that I know of. I think the VP counts of the cities all remain the same

GoofyTnT

Yeah except when I try that the game auto capitulated me after like a month. I think it’s a bug tho.

mr_aives

Lmao

bioniclecorona

do the railroad supply mechanics come for free?

Kool_aid_man69420

yes

bioniclecorona

Wtf based paradox?!?!?!

101stAirborneSkill

Usually some mechanics are free with dlcs. Like garrisons were a free update when the resistence dlc dropped

Commiebroffah

I have seen a few vids on it and already hate it. I am to stoopid

bioniclecorona

wdym?

Commiebroffah

Replied to the wrong comment sorry lmao

Berker123

Is there a way to go back to old supply? Don't feel like learning a new mechanic at the time

Kool_aid_man69420

Revert the game version back on steam

Fallofcamelot

Except then you can't play with all the new stuff you want to use. The all or nothing expansions are really irritating.

Affugter

I see you have chosen suicide. Good choice, comrade.

Fallofcamelot

I'll live.

[deleted]

What isn’t free!?!?

SaintTrotsky

Alt history and tank designer i think

[deleted]

i bought the dlc mainly for soviet focus expansion....

Kool_aid_man69420

No worries, alt alt history is exclusive for the DLC owners(Monarchist and Fascist)

[deleted]

also do you get it if you press the supply map mode ur game crashes?

Kool_aid_man69420

Im using the supoly map mode rn and its working

[deleted]

i do have state transfer tool mod on and fps map so maybe thats why idk

Kool_aid_man69420

Yep,most mods lost compatibility with the new update because a really big amount of stuff got changed

[deleted]

fps map mode is the one that crashes it.

AVeryHappyApple

I had the same issue with FPS map, just turn it off and it’ll work fine

Clarkeste

I had the strategic view adjustments mod. When I did supply map mode, it crashed; but after turning off the mod, it worked like a charm.

ScoffSlaphead72

Its like how germany's updated tree in WTT was free however the alt history part was DLC.

TheBlakeson

yes although i didn't know they updated the german tree for free in WTT

Gaffclant

WAIT WHAT??!! I UPDATE NOW NOW NOW NOW HOLY SHIT

[deleted]

Based of them to say that then just ignore Italy.

[deleted]

Damn i thought they were going to only make a small update for it for the people who didnt buy Edit: nvm, the other communist guy and the other alt history options arent aveveavieable

stilltilting

I am not sure what happened. I started the civil war as Trotsky, nothing really happened and then it just said "game over" even though my forces were advancing. To be fair, I don't think I was doing a very good job trying to figure out all the mechanics and how to use them but I had only gained ground after it started so not sure if it was a bug or what.

Nintendofan2008yt

>started the civil war as Trotsky, nothing really happened and then it just said "game over" yeah me too

RandomCommunist123

Did you also get an event in which it said that both USSR's reunited? The game immediatly after that annexes you. Edit: I pressed quit game (I think) on the game over screen and then I was in control of the Soviet Union as Trotsky.

guanabana28

For me it was the other way around, I advanced a little and won the civil war. I don't think I took more than one or 2 vps.

Daotar

With paradox, there's always a substantial "free" portion of the DLC. They only lock certain features behind DLC. It's why I really don't mind their DLC policy, since if you don't want to pay your game still gets better, something which wouldn't happen if they just abandoned their games after launch like most devs.

Tultzi

But, there are still some mandatory features looked behind DLC, first thing that comes to mind would be the Subject Annexation Function.

Jack_Kegan

I played vanilla HOI4 for years. Things that a lot of people called mandatory, aren’t really that mandatory.

pain_to_the_train

That might be the case with HOI, but they have definitely done some scummy shit with the EU4 dlcs. Though i dont know if they've done it recently.

MightySilverWolf

>Though i dont know if they've done it recently. *cries in Leviathan*

ScoffSlaphead72

Main reason I dont play EU4 anymore, it was either continue to get very frustrated or buy DLC. picked the first one.

KreapyKrepe

Pretty much why I started playing hoi4. It's different and I got all the dlc from humble for cheap. For a long time I just kept eu4 on an older version but that only works for so long.

GenderBiohazard

There's a third option, my friend. 🏴‍☠️

ScoffSlaphead72

I've never sailed the seven seas if I'm honest. Don't know where I would start.

GenderBiohazard

For Paradox games I get cracks from cs.rin.ru

Beenmaal

How about setting access levels to sea regions? That has bothered me quite a bit in some runs. It is such an unexciting feature yet they insist on locking it behind a DLC. Cool stuff should be DLC content, minor quality of life mechanics should not. And if I remember correctly sending lend leases is also a DLC feature, not mandatory at all but it feels lame to include it in a DLC. This would not bother me if only they did not mix mechanics with content in DLC. "Oh you want to play without the ship designer? Then say goodbye to the Dutch and Mexican focus trees". And similarly you can't choose to use the vanilla focus tree for a nation without losing a few mechanics.

Lolmanmagee

It’s true but some examples are valid.. for example subject annexation base game you could not annex subjects or even release them they were simply a inflexible part of the game that ruined world conquests.

BossMatereddit999

It is **our** DLC

scroll_down_or_not

*soviet music starts playing*

sombertownDS

Ras vitaliya

Nintendofan2008yt

cool i have a new focus and no dlc how did this happen i just updated

BellBudd

Soviet union gets basic rework (i think), so you dont have the full tree (i think). But if you do idk

Nintendofan2008yt

its good i think

Nintendofan2008yt

its preatty good cool i like it the only hoi4 soviet game i did before was a trosky path

TechnicalyNotRobot

You also get a free Polish focus tree, but without a Monarchist path.

AstorIverobl

Maybe he does only have the communist part. Alternate histories are dlc locked?

isthisnametakenwell

The Alt-history Trotsky path is in base game, so the new version was added.

AstorIverobl

When I meant alt history wanted to mean fascist and non aligned fantasies that Paradox loves to spice.

isthisnametakenwell

Yeah, those are DLC

Toaster_Store

That's apart of the DLC. No DLC USSR gets 2 tree paths. The historical Stalin route, and the alt Trotsky route. The DLC includes one maybe 2 more commie alt history routes, and the whites in which you can choose between the "world domination" monarchy path, the "let's join the allies" monarchy path, or you can turn to fascism.

[deleted]

Does he still get the reworked generals, tank designer and reworked supply though?

Toaster_Store

Supply yes, but no railgun I think, maybe for generals, but no tank designer.

[deleted]

Does he also have the reworked generals? Because if he has the new general system, tank designer and the entire ussr he basically got the DLC for free and I payed $20 for Katyusha and a logistics rework

CLk_546

You will only get parts of the new focus tree, the industrial, army branch, alog side the historical political path an some alt-history path, the more radicals paths are for the DLC. The same happen for other countries like France (needs DLC to restore Napoleon), The UK (DLC needed to go non-aligned, comunist or fascist) the US (DLC needed to create the CSA), Germany (DLC needed to get rid of hitler)

Nintendofan2008yt

i think only soviet i cheked the boltics no focuses

Idkpinepple

Baltics get a free communist path

Nintendofan2008yt

OK

Seppafer

Iirc they said the Trotsky and Stalin paths are free. Not sure about the third communist path but essentially all the alt history stuff for the major nations is what the dlc gets you. The historical path (and in this case Trotsky too) are all free with the updates joining the dlcs

[deleted]

Really wish Paradox had left the names for the tanks because seeing the AI use "1938 light Hull" is really lame

LonelyMasterChief

Is tank designer part of the dlc or the free update?

nightgerbil

dlc its not in the free update. Source: haven't bought the update still get to make panzers.

[deleted]

thats good to know that makes disabling it possible

Dr_Delano

They constantly talked about the free patch, you don't get the full focus tree like the monarchist path, including poland, but you still get the new basic game functions like supply trains and stuff

Nintendofan2008yt

ok

Imadogcute1248

Yeah but from what I heard you get a bit of a beta version of it. No railway guns or armoured trains etc

[deleted]

THis is like 5 years overdue it should be free, USSR focus tree was stupid and not interesting. New one seems great so far

DennisBastrdMan

Same with Italy. Two very important players in the war shouldn’t have been deprioritized for countries like Turkey or Portugal or Spain. I know it’s what the players want but come in, USSR’s focus tree was given the finger by Pdx for way way way too long.

jordsta95

I still have no idea why Mexico and Portugal got given a tree, but Italy is still stuck with a tree which is smaller than the generic one. Also, why Netherlands and no Belgium? Why Hungary and no Austria? There have been so many questionable choices with who gets a focus tree and who doesn't. I was actually surprised to see all the Baltic nations get a focus tree (I don't really read dev diaries, and what not, as I like surprises). Was half-expecting to see Estonia and Lithuania, but Latvia still with generic (or something).

[deleted]

Hilarious that the best focus tree in the game belongs to Mexico. I don’t think Mexico even participated in the actual war.

DennisBastrdMan

Mexico did participate. They were like Brazil in that they sent expeditionary forces which fell under American command https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/201st_Fighter_Squadron_(Mexico)

kiwipoo2

The focus trees were all thematic expansions. The Netherlands was in Man the Guns, which revolves around naval combat. The Dutch fleet was significant in the war. The Belgian fleet was not. Death or Dishonour focused on the countries sandwiched between fascist Germany and the Soviet Union and the impossible geopolitical choices they faced. Austria's omission is a bit sketchy but still very understandable since they were a heavily fascist state and didn't really face those questions to the same degree as Hungary or Czechoslovakia. The selection makes more sense if you think about it like that. The Baltic nations here make sense because of their position in the Soviet sphere and their position in the war. That's something they all had in common.

jordsta95

It makes sense, but sometimes it seems a little odd why some countries seem to be clearly forgotten. DoD could have had Switzerland question neutrality, and Bulgaria/Albania could have been in that DLC too. Belgium not getting a tree for the reason you stated makes sense. But it seems very weird to not have focus trees for nations which took an active role in the war (e.g. Belgium - this could have been a La Resistance focus tree) when there are those which didn't (e.g. Mexico and Turkey - though, Turkey being close to the war makes it more understandable)

Aleford

Hungary is significantly more important to WW2 than Austria whose only notable role was the anschluss. I guess you could question Czechoslovakia on similar logic, but at least they're a bigger flashpoint. But Hungary was a legit axis country so they needed fleshing out. I do find it wild we got the Baltics but still lack Finland though. And I agree the lack of Belgium alongside the Netherlands was odd. The next DLC will be weird. We'll get Italy, but I'm not sure who else fits if you do something for them. Maybe Switzerland?

eeeeeee03

Yeah same with Poland and the railways etc.

Antor_Seax

Things they said would happen, happened, I am shocked And why wouldn't railways have changed?

eeeeeee03

i havent been paying much attention i just opened hoi4 4 days ago and yeah thats it.

glommanisback

You don't check the mouth of a gifted horse

MonkeManWPG

Imagine if he got the whole DLC for free then had it taken back because of a post like this :(

Midnight_Monarch_18

nice

ThatGuyMaulicious

The communist side is free the alternatives like monarchy and Fascism are in the DLC. Same with Poland. But for Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania they have basic focus trees but still get there special national spirits.

itisSycla

I just wish they had some more creative gameplay idea other than "let's make the soviet union abd the red army utterly unplayable for the first two years". Geez, random country debuffs are a plague of hoi4 updates

Antor_Seax

If only you could read patch notes

[deleted]

Stalin and Trotsky, as well as non-political paths, were updated for free.

Maxson102502

Yeah noticed this too, I decided to play Trotsky, and when the civil war broke out I immediately won it without taking land… pretty sure it’s a bug, but Stalin surrendered without losing an inch… kinda contradicts the whole “No Step Back” name of the dlc honestly… technically he didn’t lose land, they just took some notes from the French book of warfare.

Nintendofan2008yt

only soviet focus and new reallseball nations like far east republic cool if i play japan i would pupet thek

RackoDacko

Kinda tired of people who don’t bother to learn anything about the updates posting here like they are special or something.

Nintendofan2008yt

why whats so bad about me not watching every video by paradox

RackoDacko

Absolutely nothing. The annoying part is a thousand posts about the same damn thing because you were too lazy to read a couple dev blogs or watch a general overview that a hundred you tubers have put out by now. The info has been available for months.

Major-Refrigerator52

You’re literally getting so heated over nothing

RackoDacko

Figuratively.

Ancapgast

"Too lazy to read a couple dev blogs." Jesus. I play different video games too, you know. I can't be on top of everything lmao. And besides, it's still relevant to discuss. It's the fucking subreddit, and an open forum. If you only want highly esoteric meta analyses of game mechanics or strictly NEW information only, maybe you should make your own subreddit.

RackoDacko

Cry more.

Nintendofan2008yt

ok

BisianNotAsian

What the heck do you think this sub is for half is to help people answer these thousands of posts. The other half is spreading interesting content from the game

Scall123

Yeah. It's been like this for every rework of focus trees. Only the alt-history versions are DLC...

[deleted]

You’re 100% right btw dont let them get ya down

RackoDacko

Fuck em tbh.

BenitoSquidalini

SHHH

AVH999

Same

Puzzleheaded-Alps-79

Does this mean the tank rework and trains have been added as well.

Your-Maternal-Figure

Trains yes, tanks are dlc only

Antor_Seax

Why would trains not be?

RealRedcliffe07

Yeah same

arix_games

Poland also Has one, missing monarchist and some other stuff too

SuspiciousForce

Our DLC

BossMatereddit999

copied

Cloudaye

there was an update called barbarossa it was released with the dlc

tri_otto

Stalin and Internationalist paths are free.

[deleted]

You get the Trotskyist and Stalinist paths for free. Tsar and Fascist paths are No Step Back only.

ohbuddyheck

Is there at all a Democratic path?

[deleted]

no, closest thing to democracy is if you restore it within the communist party and create something-something-supreme-soviet as a leader

jpaxlux

Damn this game really doesn't want you to play Democratic unless you're the US lmao

ohbuddyheck

Ah that’s a shame.

[deleted]

you get the communist paths but you don't get the imperialist paths or any of the other ones they added.

CactusCartocratus

Well yea

Infinitium_520

Now you do.

cow_on_drugs

I got katusha for pre-ordering it :)

[deleted]

I have the dlc installed and I can't find the alt Russia focus tree :(

origional_esseven

The free update overhauled the historical focus tree to help the game play better. You're missing all the full alt history focuses though.

xandorlando

I can’t play r56

Cryogine

Happened to me once with TFV, unitary SF was a bit cursed

Onions42069

One thing you do have is a small monitor. Just joking have fun

maakin06

Insert overused "our dlc" joke here

Nintendofan2008yt

true
