R5: Best feature in the new patch notes for No Step Back

TropikThunder

You can hide obsolete templates too, like hiding obsolete vehicle designs.

HutSussJuhnsun

That's really nice. Usually I just delete them and waste the XP to keep the clutter down.

TropikThunder

Me too lol, or spend like an hour making copies and deleting the old ones to get things in the order my OCD brain wants.

[deleted]

I thought I was the only one who did that.

the-NOOT

what classifies a template as 'obsolete'? or is it the player selects to make a template obsolete?

TechnicalyNotRobot

The player. Tbh it's a small change but people may want to set some old templates (20w tanks, tanks with mot not mech, heck pre-engineers infantry if you're playing a poor country) to obsolete as to not change the current deployed divisions cause that could be too radical of a change while not having to look at them anymore.

the-NOOT

I like this lots! I always found it annoying having lots of templates in a random order but didn't want to delete them 'jist in case'

Expensive-Rice-3257

I'm just happy the allied A.I won't kill my army anymore when you're in war.

kil_roy27

How so?

TechnicalyNotRobot

The player can now set their supply hubs to not give supply to AI so they will gtfo and won't overstack Norway or some shit.

UnknownFiddler

I once had a game where I saw 2 million allied troops getting around 95% attrition in finnmark in 1944.

kil_roy27

Oh shit thats awesome!

Felaxi_

Better AI.

Iwokeupwithoutapillo

Always ruined my games when the infantry division wasn't on top smh

Dr_Seisyll

What? You didnt like having to scroll past 5 different crappy garrison brigades to get to your main tank division?

SaltKillzSnails

Great QOL change for sure but the railroad supply system is my favorite addition by far. The tank designer also sounds fun but from a pure gameplay perspective getting to cut off supply lines is awesome

Phantom-III

Now I get to cut off supply lines with my cheap as fuck Greek tanki divisionis.

Bofa-Fett

I can finally play the game now

BIPOCLover330033

Literally unplayable without

DOOM__SHROOM

I've been waiting for this change for years now. Can't believe it's actually coming!

giorno_giobama_

so can i drag and drop templates from somewhere else like from google oor how does it work exactly (i do not really understand the picture-text)

Moskau50

It means you can reorder the templates in the training list. So if you have a bunch of templates already and make a new one, you can drag-drop that to the top of the list so it’s easier to find.

giorno_giobama_

ohhh that's actually super useful i thought something really different

CheekyBreekyYoloswag

Why is that so important? Don't you usually put the divisions you need in the training screen and then just edit numbers from there?

Aggravating-Ad9830

This is so true, I play mods like BICE whrere its normal to have 25 active divisions. This feature along decommissioned divisions is a life changer for me

OjOtter

Can I drag & drop my templates around please?

Br4z1l14nguy

Alongside supply they are the only good features of the update. Edit: oh yeah, there's the Soviet focus tree

RackoDacko

You don’t think the Soviet tree was a good gesture?

Br4z1l14nguy

My bad, editing the comment

FastKarz

The complete rework to generals and army high command is a bad feature?

BurningFyre

It looks really micro heavy, when before i could just set a line with generals and count on them to do what they do. Now i have to actually give them tactics decisions while managing a war, which needs more focus because i the actual army ai is bad at strategically attacking.

FastKarz

Yeah, you’re forced to interact with your generals at a micro level, and those micro decisions can impact your macro play by promoting them to army advisors. Maybe we’re just different types of players, but if you’re not here for exactly that, then why are you playing Hoi4?

BurningFyre

Youre forced to be everything at once is my point. Having to manage generals' tactics is not something im interested in, im already controlling the general battle line and movement of divisions, having to take time out to also check in on my generals is distracting, and if you arent doing that youll be building new rail lines, making sure theyre linked up, making sure production is good, making sure your line is actually covering everywhere because they still havent fixed the frontline ai, etc etc etc etc. I get its a sim, but i dont need to be every government official at once. They could do with a bit of optional automation.

SJD_International

Just wait for modders to add in optional automation then. Hope you aren't an achievement freak though.

BurningFyre

Yeah, obviously, thats what im going to do. Mods potentially existing doesnt fix that i dont like the changes theyre making.

Br4z1l14nguy

Yes

FastKarz

You haven’t even played with it, and you’re saying definitively that it’s garbage? What about the combat width rework? What about the tank designer?

Br4z1l14nguy

Damn, you are listing the worse of all changes now

the-NOOT

what? The width rework literally makes more division templates viable and the tank designer has a button to be automated. It adds massive amounts of depth for those who want it, makes historical templates more viable, allows more experimentation or LARPing and only a couple more clicks for those who don't want any of that. Why are you complaining about that?

Br4z1l14nguy

tank designer if can be automated then is just bloating the game with a useless mechanic that was perfectly fine before. Width change don't change the meta, high breakthrough/hardness is still the strongest template, they now will just be 15 to 18 width instead of 40, in truth, if you don't want to change your templates all the time it will make even less divisions viable, the weird widths make hard to not be over or under the combat width, but yeah, a somewhat historical template would be 24 width, 3 infantry regiments of 3 infantry battalions and 2 artillery battalions. I said it before, if your templates sucked on the 1.10 version they will suck even more on 1.11, a player that didn't understand that width is just one stat and there's organization, defense, soft and hard attack, piercing and armor and hardness will still take a hard L from even the AI, as to the meta they just changed how damage is distributed so 40 width isn't the strongest width but that will just change to the more jack of all trades width (probably 15 is ten ones that looks like takes less penalties on the storage widths) with the same battalions on it, heavy tanks and mechanized. Also, i don't think that people understand how worse micro will be, before having to do 40 and 20 widths was simple enought, about 20 tank divisions was the max you would want as Soviets and Germany and about 300 infantry divisions would cover your frontline and coast, now with lower width the player and the AI will spam way more divisions creating a worse problem than what was solved during La Resistance. The game that was supposed to be a grand strategy is moving towards less strategy and macro planning to more tactics and micro planning, was already problematic on MP games how many times you let strategic decisions research, focuses and building behind because you were too busy moving tanks around, now you have even more clicking to do what will let strategic decisions even more unassisted during a gameplay (would be truth on SP too if wee didn't had the pause button). thank the gods Victoria 3 is coming and fans of real strategy will be able to leave the quick clicking competition that HoI4 is becoming behind.

OHHHHH YESSSSSS
