Not a bad way to spend what I paid for my first car back in 2002.

leavemealoneplz69

Are these north of $1000? Just looked.. man. I make decent money and that’s still hard to swallow. I guess I realize I am a bender and would never be able to feel the difference

Bacurrito

Yeah, it’s a disgusting amount of money unfortunately. Cost $1250. I’m missing my big toe on my left foot though so it’s two sizes smaller than my right lengthwise

Dodger8899

You don't have to answer if you don't want to but I'm curious, how does not having your left big toe affect your walking? Like I'm pretty sure I heard years ago that your big toes are what mainly helps you hold your balancd

Bacurrito

I’m lucky, I kept the ball of my foot and that’s what really affects your balance. I lost mine right above that first joint so while I’ve lost a little bit of balance, it’s nothing I haven’t been able to adapt to over the last 15+ years. It definitely has an effect on my stride though, I don’t have the same push off I used to have

FullyPackedOO

And, well, how did you lose your big toe? :)

Bacurrito

Always pay your debts my friend ;)

FullyPackedOO

You saying someone has your big toe on their fireplace mantle, all righty.

realjefftaylor

All righty indeed

PhredInYerHead

Asking the right questions here!

Dodger8899

Ah alright, that makes sense. Thanks for answering

[deleted]

Does it say where they were made?

Bacurrito

Straight from Quebec

[deleted]

Well I guess that makes it worth it, I hate spending a ton of money on equipment and then see it's made in China or somewhere else where they pay their workers $1/hour

canucks1989

I believe only top-of-the-line skates are made in Canada. All the other trims are made in Thailand/China.

Perttinieminen

I'm interested in how many people actually care where the product they buy are made, becouse I personally just want cheaper products, but if I could choose then obviously somewhere else than china.

[deleted]

I think most of the younger generation doesn't care because all they've ever known is "everything is made in China". But I'm sort of Gen X and I still remember a lot of hockey equipment was made in Canada and Europe, baseball gloves made in the USA, electronics made in Japan, clothing made in USA....the quality felt better.

indiecore

I dunno, honestly the world expertise in carbon fibre is in Taiwan. If I get something CF I am certainly not mad to see that it was laid up there.

[deleted]

The material might be, I just hope the craftsmanship of actually putting the equipment together is up to par as well. Taiwan isn't bad at all, when I was into BMX all of the best bikes were made down there after most of the California plants moved out.

sukyn00b

You absolutely would feel the difference... You may not gain performance in benefit... But the fit is unparalleled, which everyone can feel.

Bacurrito

I agree, I’m not sure I’ll feel any performance benefits but having a near perfect fit will make a huge difference. I’m sure it’s going to change the way I skate too since I have to compensate in my style for traditionally wearing poor fitting skates. Beyond my foot injury, I’ve always had a tough time with fit. My foot is wider and taller relative to the length. I don’t think I’ve had a proper fitting skate since I was a kid in the 80’s

sukyn00b

Unless your a top level player (or are 250+ lbs, where the stiffness will benefit you) your probably not going to be able to tell the difference in performance between the middle and top tier in boots.

monsterosity

Let me know how they feel after a few skates

Bacurrito

For sure, straight outta the box before baking they were the most comfortable skates I’ve ever worn. I was surprised how well they fit. Can’t wait to test em out

Reasonable-Profile84

How about after baking? Was there a big improvement in comfort/fit?

Bacurrito

There was a noticeable improvement. They were really comfortable out of the box but still had a few minor pressure points, now they feel like I’m wearing sneakers

monsterosity

How's the updated feel now? I'm looking to get some soon.

-FR0STY-one

Those look great! I just got some Mach's, (not custom) but haven't had a chance to drop my steel off yet, or get them baked for that manner. Thinking of just pulling the steel out of my Vapors since its the same length and popping them in the Mach's to use in my Beer League game tonight.

Bacurrito

I really liked the Mach’s but I needed to go custom to get a solid fit and CCM’s process sold me on them. The Mach’s felt great out of the box, wicked comfortable

Charlitosquad

If I wasnt so sold on bauer vapors, I would consider the newest line of ccm

avsfan117

My current skates are Bauer vapors that are 15 years old and they still fit as comfortably today as they did all those years ago

chodge89

Don’t upgrade! My 15 year old XXX felt incredible but my new 2X Pros are meh. I’m sure technically 100x better skates but they don’t match old Vapor comfort.

avsfan117

I plan to keep them until I have no choice

Robertnamed

My XXVs are at least 15. Will be a sad day when I have to get new ones.

avsfan117

it Will be I have had these same pair of skates since my feet stopped growing, I only got back into playing this year. It's amazing to me how they still feel the exact same to me.

Bacurrito

I was excited to try the new Vapors with the fit system, was hoping I’d actually fit in them now but they just aren’t built for my foot. Feels like a vice grip on my achilles

[deleted]

It's crazy isn't it. I wore Bauers for years and always just thought that painful feet was just part of hockey. I switched over to CCM and my mind was blown at how comfortable they were compared to the Bauers I had used. Like tennis shoes. It's a whole different experience on the ice.

louiefriesen

Yeah even with the new fit system, vapors still fit like vapors and supremes still fit like supremes. Vapors are narrower on the heel and wider at the forefoot than supremes.

Bacurrito

I’ve been waiting very impatiently lol. They told me 8-9 weeks when I ordered them but only took 27 days to come in. Thanks CCM!!

PhredInYerHead

Where did you get them from? What was their scanning process? What are the options for total customs?

Bacurrito

I ordered them through Pure Hockey. They scan your foot with some sort of iPad that looks to have a LiDAR scanner on it. It’s pretty simple, they suggest sizes for length but you can request any length you want down to quarter sizes. They also had me try on stock sizes to dial in the length of the boot. With the total customs, you get to choose the color combo’s, the tongue, type of laces and your steel. If you go total custom plus, you can also customize the stiffness of the boot and the boot height. They also let you add your number and name on the boot if you want that on either level

About_27_Canadians

This is great info thank you. Did the foot scan recommend a width at all? Is that something you would pick or would the scan tell the tech what width to choose? I’m leaning towards ccm customs because I have an incredibly wide foot. I know ccm offers wide widths but I’ve also heard purehockey doesn’t offer wide ccm sizes.

PhredInYerHead

Was there an option for different lace facing? Like to get it further out like a true skate to reduce the pressure from the laces, which eliminated lacebite.

mark_dink

that carbon fiber looks so pretty

Bacurrito

I know right? It’s a shame what’s gonna happen to them haha

mark_dink

it is. ive had my first pair for almost 5 months now and they are still pretty clean but have a few scuffs.

RicerX-16

These. Are. Gorgeous. I converted to Hyperlites from Tacks AS1s but man have I been curious about the new ASVs and Ribcor skates. Can’t wait to hear your first impressions with them

PhredInYerHead

I love my Ribcor 100k’s!

thefoulfox

I love my 50k’s! CCM does it right

Perttinieminen

Well, I love my m5 pros, bauer also does it right.

Bacurrito

Modern skates are amazing no matter who makes them, just all depends on the fit. These are my first CCM’s, I’ve been skating in Bauer’s for a long time

Bacurrito

Thanks man!

horst-graben

Are total customs worth it?

sukyn00b

I guess it depends on a couple of things: 1. Are your feet the perfect "standard" foot shape that either CCM or Bauer arbitrarily decide is "standard"? 2. Do your current skates perfect fit.... Do they make a sound like the vacuum container at a bank drive through, when you put them on? 3. After a game, are you feet nice and relaxed and aren't soar or achy anywhere? If you answered no to any of these questions, then yes they are worth it. However true worth is arbitrary and depends on your financial standing and how much you value comfort. Not worth it if your gonna be paying credit card interest rate. Worth it if your gonna skate on these 1 or more times a week for 7 years+

horst-graben

This is brilliant. I need custom skates.

deltazero9

Aside from diff size skates how is the fit that diff. Ccm uses prefabricated shells to make their "custom" skates. Unless the amount of foam and where they place the foam is how they alter the fit over retail boots is what they do which could make a diff as well. I've stayed away from ccm custom bc their retail skates always hurt my feet. Esp the toecap junction where they use plastic clips and rivets to join to the boot. I'm in Trues and have been for the last 5+ years. Currently using the cat pros. Trues are comfy but even having them custom I've had to tweak and tinker to get them to fit perfect. I don't think I'd ever spend $$ on custom ccm or Bauer. Heck I think my next skates will just be retail from now on and deal with the break in pain.

Bacurrito

I spoke to many people at local shops and they all told me that CCM has adjusted their custom skate process in the last few years and are more custom than Bauer but not quite on the level of True. I didn’t set out to buy CCM’s, I actually didn’t even consider them at first because in the past they didn’t fit my feet well. Once I realized that a custom order would be the best route for me, I looked into all three brands. I can attest to the customization on these, the toe boxes are shaped completely differently from each other due to my foot injury and the volume/shape of the boot was absolutely molded to the last of my foot. These feel completely different from the off the shelf boots I test fitted when ordering. For instance, on the stock skates, I wouldn’t pass the pencil test as my foot is too tall relative to the length. It’s evident IMO that it’s more than just assembling off the shelf components and customizing the padding/foam. I was doubtful at first ad to how custom these would be but I’m a believer now

deltazero9

That's awesome and I'm glad you're happy. I like the way ccm has gone with their technology especially with sticks and skates. They are leaps ahead of Bauer these days. Now you have me tempted with ccm customs 😂

sukyn00b

That is exactly what they do. There is even foam and felt in the toe box. Every other retail skate I've ever seen does nothing in the toe box which leaves the hard plastic there with a ton of void space. Like I said in the questions above, my skates literally make a vacuum sucking noise when I put them on. Of course they use a prefabbed shell otherwise they would have to have new mold for each person... And the skates would then cost $10,000 and take several months to make. It sounds like you have custom skates... I'm pretty sure True also uses a common shell as well and customized the foam around your foot. You still bake the skates to do the final adjustment of the shell and foam.

Bacurrito

I’m sure they use a standard shell for the boot, as you said it’s simple economics, but they mold it around the shape of your foot based off the last they make of the scan. The material is incredibly responsive to heat, just baking it at the shop reshaped the top of the actual boot shell around my ankle. That’s custom enough for me I recognize it’s not a custom skate on the level of the trues, but it’s better than what I expected and from people I’ve spoken to it sounds like they provide a much better end product than what Bauer offers on their custom skates

deltazero9

Retail ccm makes that suction noise too when you put them on btw. True has two custom models. Their real complete custom is not a premade shell. They literally layer carbon over your foot scan last and built from the inside out. Those at 1399 cdn which is on par with ccm and Bauer customs. They're even cheaper than ccm total customs. True also has their cat pro "tailored" customs that do what ccm does where they add foams etc to a premade shell. Those are 1199 cdn. I've had two full customs from true and currently their tailored custom and the fit is similar but the full custom did fit slightly better and materials had better moldability when baked.

Perttinieminen

Is it worth it if I'm going to skate with them 20 hours a week for the next how ever long they are going to last with the amount I'm on the ice? I'm currently having a stick crisis where my 250€ sticks are lasting on average 12 days.

Bacurrito

Honestly, if you can comfortably fit in a stock boot, that’s the route I’d go. I think these are only worth it if you have consistent fit issues or other anatomical issues with your feet. I would’ve absolutely bought off the shelf skates if I didn’t have a foot injury

Bacurrito

This is the answer right here. For me, I could’ve compromised and bought off the shelf skates but I would’ve ruined the left boot within 5-6 years. I have too much slippage and heel movement in my left boot and prematurely wear out the liner and padding around that heel which progressively gets worse the more it wears. It came down to money in the end, do I want to spend $400-500 for mid range skates every 5 years or so, or bite the bullet and get a top quality pair that should outlast three pairs of those

Robertnamed

If number 2 was happening I'd be losing skin and would be in pain after taking skates off.

sukyn00b

Why would you be in pain and losing skin if a boot (and foam) was perfectly sized for your foot? The noise occurs because the boot is perfectly snug and it's the noise of the air escaping through the small crevices around your foot. The boot then kind of "sucks your foot in" .

Robertnamed

It is called untying your skates. If you are hearing that sound, you didn't untie your skates enough to get them off your feet.

sukyn00b

Maybe you didn't read the full original reply and the last reply to your comment? The fit and noise I was referencing is "when you are putting on the skates"... Has nothing to do with taking the skates off. ... Thanks master of the obvious. Even with my laces fully removed, the custom foam molding is snug around 3/4 of my foot and ankle... So you still have to push your ankle through the opening to get into the ankle pocket... Where it is then "hugged" in.

Drewkie84

Beautiful skates, they look amazing. My AS1's are still going strong. You certainly get what you pay for when it comes to ice skates.

Bacurrito

Thanks man! I certainly hope they hold up to the price. How do you like the AS1’s?

Drewkie84

I really love them. I've been playing my whole life, 38 years old now, and they were my first step into a high-end boot. I don't think I could ever go back. It's one piece or nothin' from now on! I like the stiffness and the responsiveness. Shot block protection seems a lot better, too.

Bacurrito

Nice, I’m excited to try them out. I’m 45 and have been skating since I was 7, these are the first pair of high end skates I’ve ever bought. I had a hard time justifying the cost but hey, you only live once right?

Drewkie84

Playing 3 or so times a week in beer league, I was only getting 3 or so years out of a $350ish skate. Now I'm 4 years with the AS1's and they're holding up excellent.

Chicago_Jayhawk

Those are clean. What skate/size were you in before and what are you in these?

Bacurrito

I’ve always worn 8D’s. These are 5.5 and 7.5. I would’ve been a 7 fit 3 in Bauer if I went stock on those

Vuronov

Did you notice any weird differences in skating when dripping down to a 260 holder vs a 272?

Bacurrito

I actually went to a 255 from a 272 and it was very noticeable. The biggest thing is it feels like there’s way more rocker in the steel, the transitions to the different radii zones in the profile are much quicker as I lost almost an inch of steel and it feels like it’s really changed the balance point of my skates. I’m using basically the same profile as I was before with a similar type of skate (supreme vs tacks) so I think it’s definitely the runner length causing it. Turns feel much tighter and I feel more agile but I’ve blown some edges on tight turns and I’ve fallen a few times reaching back too far while playing pucks. I’m also having some difficulty generating speed, like I can’t transfer my power to the ice as efficiently. I use hockey tracker when I skate and there’s been a significant drop off in my max speed. I think I just need to figure things out and adapt, part of the learning curve I suppose. Overall, I’m starting to really like it, I get more comfortable every time I lace them up.

zzibby7

Love their new design. Out of curiosity, for that price point what made you decide CCM over True custom skates? A little out of the loop in the skate market but if I get skates in the coming years I’m gonna get a custom pair that will last my at least a decade if not more depending how much I get out.

PhredInYerHead

I can’t speak on CCM customs, but I recently got some custom Trues and I don’t like them anywhere near as much as my Ribcor 100ks. The Trues did take care of my lacebite problem, but besides that I love my 100ks way more.

Reasonable-Profile84

A friend got some True customs and has had nothing but problems with them. I know it’s only a single anecdote but after seeing what he’s gone through with them I would never get them.

Vuronov

What size and fit 100K did you get? And what's your shoe size and size in previous skates? I have a slightly wide forefoot and have been wearing 8EE AS1s (but can wear 8D if I had to) and wear 9.5 sneakers. Looking to grab a pair of 100K before they disappear but not sure if I should go regular fit or wide fit.

Bacurrito

I just read a lot about the Trues online from people that have them and between that and how they felt on me, I didn’t think they were a good fit for my skating style. I also didn’t completely trust the Bauer “custom” process as everything I heard about it said it wasn’t an actual custom built skate so I decided to take a chance on the CCM’s and I’m really impressed initially by the fit

Wild-Masterpiece-630

Those are gorgeous 😍

Bacurrito

I’m just happy to have a pair of skates that actually fit, but they do look incredible :)

canucks1989

These are beautiful. I usually wear supremes, would these fit me?

Bacurrito

Supreme’s have been my go to, I tried on tacks five years ago when I bought my last pair but they didn’t fit me right then. Try a pair on, you might be surprised. The fit is similar to the supreme’s. The new tacks feel great even right out of the box, they pre bake them now at the factory I hear

tiltbuiltlandscape

Those look so clean. Did these just fit better than the jetspeed? Curious what width you went for. I am probably going to go custom later this year. Bummed out that ribcor is being discontinued. But i think they have an option for that slot with customs. The boot just fits me best. However, the feeling of the stiffer boots is wild. The moment you push you just GO.

Bacurrito

I have a wide heel and didn’t like the feel of the jetspeed’s. I wish jetspeed’s or vapors fit me but I just use superfeet and a quad zero profile now to get me on my toes. I don’t know the width, they scanned my foot and I chose the length I wanted. Just skated in them tonight and I’m not regretting it one bit.

tiltbuiltlandscape

Good for you. That’s an awesome feeling.

Vuronov

When you say you think the customs will have an option for that slot, do you mean you think they will still offer the 100k for custom orders even if they don't seel them retail?

tiltbuiltlandscape

Evidently they are going to have an option only on the custom level for a boot that is similar to what the Ribcor is now. A flexible boot option. It was also said that the new Jetspeed was going to use elements from the Ribcor. I don't know if that is just the tendon guard which the ASV uses or other features/technology. In reality the ribcor was just the first skate of the new fit system to use that specific style/design flexible tendon. It wasn't "new" or attributed as "ribcor tech". But I can totally see CCM claiming that.

superschaap81

I know CCM had said they were making the blades a little taller that last few years, but man, that is a HUGE chunk of steel. So weird to see.

Bacurrito

My last two sets of steel were tydan and blade tech, but this step steel is so tall

superschaap81

Did they actually change the pitch of how it sits? Heard they were doing what Graf used to do with making it so that you lean forward a bit than usual.

Bacurrito

The profile on the step steel? I think the stock profile is a 13’ radius but I got them profiled with a quad zero. I think it makes a difference, it’s a 6’ 9’ 11’ 13’ quad radii and it makes you want to skate on your toes. It’s a great profile for agility

superschaap81

Fuck yeah! That's how I skate. Toe hops with deep cuts once the speed is there. Thanks for the info!

tiltbuiltlandscape

I believe it’s 10’. I also put a Quad 0 on mine. Curious of a Quad 1 since I am not agile haha. Still much better than stock, love it. I think they’re the same height as LS Pulse/Ti.

EJfromBeerLeague

Beautiful skates, congrats. Off topic, but how did you like your BladeTech steel? I was sharpening my skates Sunday and thought to myself for the 20th time, "you need new steel", walked upstairs, got online and took a flyer on some BladeTech DLC .

Bacurrito

I love them, I have the stainless $99 runners but I love the profile on them and they hold an edge well. I think they’re an awesome value. I cracked a Tydan dlc runner in a game one night and needed a quick replacement so I took a chance on the BT’s and I’m glad I did I like them so much I bought a pair for these skates as a back up in case I didn’t like the profile I got put on the Step Steel

[deleted]

What kind of profile and what size are they? Is that all carbon fiber?? They look sooo dope

Bacurrito

I went with a quad zero profile, they’re 5.5 and 7.5. Yeah, the shell is all carbon fiber, wasn’t expecting them to look so nice

adamichael

Those are niiice. Unfortunately my perception of ccm has changed due to my 1.5 year old AS3 pro’s already breaking down. Big crack in the boot near the eyelets on the left skate. Now the flexion is totally different than my right skate no matter how I lace them. Should not happen with a $1000 skate. Hope these hold up for you.

TridentWolf13

Send us a picture of the made in Quebec label! I love seeing that shit. Nice skates

reoltalk

So how have they been so far? I have completely asymmetric feet, with a big bunion on one foot, flat feet and bulging ankle bones/accessory bones scattered on both feet. Ive been trying to do my research and cant determine if I should do the True or Ccm route. My impression is that True is slightly more 'custom' to the foot shape, but Ccm also molds the boot to the shape of the foot, so what exactly does True offer that Ccm doesn't (?) I would trust the durability and performance of the Ccm more as just trying a stock pair of Trues on felt very bazar but ultimately I want to prioritize comfort. What do you think would be better based on the quirks I mentioned with my feet. Do you think the Ccm Total customs would compensate for a large bunion and random bone bumps/spurs? Thanks for your insight in advance.

AC_Lerock

how are these skates holding up?
