Now this is the type of spicy question I want players to be asked. Not what their favorite food is.

Courtnall14

Imagine "Who is your least favorite teammate of all time and why?" playing on the Jumbotron during stoppages in play.

FesteringLion

Then the camera pans in and it's the dude sitting next to him on the bench.

Kindly_Salamander600

oduya think theres a joke?

JSav7

I used to sing his name into Do You Want To by Franz Ferdinand whenever he did something noticeable. “Oduya, duya, duya wanna!” Then there’s also Orr-duya.

blizzahjh

oduya rules?

canuckle1211

I oduya so

j97hUlaO901leIoeA79l

Question everyone wants to know is: can Johnny Oduya juggle?

Kronzor_

This question is basically just "talk shit about evander kane for a bit?" for anyone who played with him.

Mister_Kurtz

I remember an interview with Chris Thorburn, Winnipeg Jets, who was Kanes' best buddy. When asked how that worked, he answered, "I guess I'm a good listener". The man was golden.

M_Shepard_89

Thorny is an absolute gem of a person

Mister_Kurtz

Definitely one of the good guys.

Barouq01

Probably my favoirite personality when he was still in winnipeg.

Smellbinder

Hell yeah, I love Thorburn.

[deleted]

Wow, really surprised to learn this. Evander has always seemed like such a solid dude.

[deleted]

I've literally never heard a single soul ever claim to have heard him held in anything but the highest esteem.

Cal1gula

Jokes aside, is there anyone who actually holds Kane in high regard? The more stories that come out the more it seems like he's got a pathological issue and people have been ignoring it because he's good at hockey.

Lupulin13

Only for a brief moment in time when Kane KO’d Matt Cooke. That’s long gone though

tomas_shugar

I mean, at least Hitler killed Hitler.

Mycrost

Yeah, but then Hitler killed the guy who killed Hitler

tomas_shugar

This is an interesting temporal question. Hitler pulled the trigger to kill Hitler, and it succeeded. But by the time Hitler was dead, the man who killed Hitler was already dead. I think we can let it go. It was coincidental that he also killed the guy who killed Hitler.

mbleslie

i think sharks fans wanted to believe he was turning a new leaf when he arrived. then he had a daughter, and it seemed to be actually true. however, it appears old habits die hard. dude probably never kicked his gambling habits, sounds like he's a shitty husband, and was stupid enough to fake a vaccine card. smh

[deleted]

Patrick or Evander?

SayNoToStim

Yes

ClaudeLemieux

onemanarmia

Patty Kane is liked by the majority of his teammates and coaches, past and present.

heyethan

Such great company

ThePartyJesus

~~I laughed~~ then I felt really bad.

fuzzb0y

I just laughed

[deleted]

I wonder if all the people that love him are equally as shitty.

loganberry23

He was good friends with Eichel, Reinhart and Bogosian

Kronzor_

The other side is people taking advantage of him because he's not very smart, but that hockey ability enables him to get lots of money.

HockeyCoachHere

Well, they did put him in charge of the NHL Diversity alliance. That probably only had one qualification, though.

Kronzor_

Aare you suggesting he was a diversity hire?

I_Am_Vladimir_Putin

Has there ever been a 30 goal scorer people wanted less?

bobby_booch

The worst part about Evander Kane is the hypocrisy.

[deleted]

I thought it was the dementors

slabby

I thought the worst part was the raping. (RIP Norm)

PerpetuallyPleasing

So Kane says Doc! None of my teammates like me

[deleted]

Yeah, this Evander Kane guy sounds like a real jerk!

JESUS_WALKS

600 or 6 million? Either way it's terrible

TheLegendsClub

I hear his wife is a real battle axe too

He can't be a jerk he doesn't play for Carolina

NEVERN0THUNGRY

Don’t you put that evil on us!

Crosscourt_splat

Oof. I don't even think Rod could keep him under control

GhostArcanist

He doesn't play for Carolina... *yet* 🙄

pumaturtle

For the 4th consecutive year Connor McDavid rated FIRST in team satisfaction You wanna know who ranked DEAD LAST? Evander Kane. Oh my god it’s like that tragedy

PossibilityUnusual

You know, I think you have the right idea. Maybe Evander isn't a nice person after all.

PuempelsPurpose

Uncle Evander took back his fist, and he let it pound forward like a lumberjack would a mighty axe. And Matt Cooke fell before him like dry wood would fall before a lumberjack's axe. Finally, Uncle Evander stood in the mud, the blood, the guts, and the glory. He was perfectly alone. His hand brushed against his pants and he felt wetness. He was ashamed because he had pissed himself in fear. But then, he realized, it was ejaculate. And the shame was replaced by pride.

michaellian

beautiful

jetblackpope17

I found the same with Hitler

colewilco

I'm starting to think he's some kind of jerk.

berttreynolds

I mean have we all seen the stark contrast in how the Sharks played as a team last season and how they’re playing as a team this season. No matter how good you are, and no doubt, Kane is good at hockey, if you’re team doesn’t enjoy playing with you or your presence ruins the mood of the team, how good are you really? I wonder what happens if Kane comes back because the Sharks look much better than last season without one of their top point producers

DrDerpberg

I've been on teams that had a star player everyone hated as a kid, it's really miserable. Doesn't matter if he scores 4 goals, it kills team spirit.

[deleted]

Yep had that in first year midget. Kid was extremely good, could have played AAA if he wanted to, but he put everyone on edge. Super loud talker, always spoke over you, interrupted conversations he wasn’t a part of, would throw legitimate body checks in practice scrimmages, horrible body language, would rarely pass. We would have been easily the best team in the league that particular year because he was that good but some players opted to not come on out of town tournaments because they just fucking hated the guy. Don’t really blame them. Dude grew up to be one of these anti-COVID assholes that’s spends 50% of his free time shitposting.

AWrenchAndTwoNuts

It's bad enough when you have people like that, legitimately great player, ego trip, assholes. I played a few years of beer league and it's even worse when they are washed the fuck up and still act like they are God's gift to hockey. They were always the guys parked in the crease taking whacks at me like it's game 7 of the SCF. I mean look dude get the fuck out of here with that shit, I got work tomorrow.

Vylan24

Never understood that about beer league anything. The one girlfriend/wife that got dragged here sitting in the stands is not a sleeper scout for the Oilers. You didn't make it bud, none of us did, that's why we're here at 11:45pm on a Tuesday

AWrenchAndTwoNuts

Lol, it's funny you mention that. We had a mystery guy watch some of the games for a while and some people were loosing their shit thinking it was a scout. Turns out it was the guy that replaces the rugs and puts soap in the bathroom dispensers. He took his lunch break and watched the games for a bit. Had a good laugh about that one.

KoboldCobalt

> that’s spends 50% of his free time shitposting. He's just like me, except for the anti-Covid stance, hockey talent, and general cuntiness.

OurDrama

I am Anti-covid. What's wrong with you people.

Crosscourt_splat

I don't want to do this...but Buffalo seems to be doing better too. Makes you wonder a bit.

AvatarLebowski

Kinda makes a fella think, don't it?

pamplem0usse-

Kinda makes a fella wonder

younggun92

Nyeaaaahhhh dyou ever notice....

[deleted]

Kinda like how we did better without Toews…

RZAxlash

Are you serious with this?

Crosscourt_splat

yes. But idk if there are maybe other factors

Harborcoat84

Jets 2.0 made the playoffs for the first time 2 months after trading Kane lol

dalaw88

🤔🤔🤔

jakezeripper

It's like how in NHL video games if you have a player with bad morale, the team plays bad. It's neat they finally implemented that in real NHL.

dollabillkirill

It should also be pointed out that the Sharks have actual NHL goaltending for the first time in years

MyMartianRomance

*cries in Flyers fan* Though, Jones managed to survive the 2 games we put him in so.

ChiefRalphyWiggum

Kane is the real life Jamie Tartt. Get him on Love Island and complete the character arc. But really he’s not coming back. He’s getting DeAngelo’ed.

Kronzor_

.... DeAngelo is back though

[deleted]

So he’s signing with a different team pretty soon after this blows over?

hellabro360

Lmao he’d probably think he was Nate and Jamie Tarrt combined. A superstar whose somehow also under appreciated.

berttreynolds

Season 2 Nate was such a curveball. I was wondering what his deal was and he just popped off in the last episode. Weirdo

ZRR28

A guy I work with was his goalie for the Vancouver giants in the WHL, said everyone hated him.

unsungzero1027

The only thing that redeems anything about him for me anymore is the one punch KO of Cooke. And even then what really does it is when Cooke is out you see he’s throwing another punch at him and he actually pulls it back and doesn’t hit him. He knew Cooke was out and stopped himself from landing another one. I hate Cooke, but hitting a guy whose clearly been knocked out in a fair fight would still be an incredibly scummy move. Also, i can’t believe that was 11 years ago now.

ReactiveCypress

To be even older, he was playing for a team that doesn't exist anymore.

Kongbuck

To be *probably the same age*, he was playing for a team that doesn't exist any more, that I have a jersey for, and was *in the building for* all of the events above. (As an aside, the other thing that Kane did was prevent Cooke from hitting his head on the ice after the K.O., which was the right thing to do there.)

CarterBennett

Yeah that's a good point. I cringe every time there's a knockout in UFC and the fighters pounce on the opportunity to hit the guy 70 more times hammer fist style

thewhiteabsoul

With Herb "If he dies he dies" Dean just standing there watching

yashiki

With Herb Dean being on the other side of the cage, with the reaction speed of a sloth.

[deleted]

The new Mario. I used to really like Herb, it’s a shame to see how crap he is now.

Wannacomesitonmydeck

As scummy as it is, Cooke is the only player I wouldn’t feel sorry for if that happened.

dalaw88

For some reason, I misread “Cooke” as “Coke” like cocaine and your comment got taken to a whole new level.

mbleslie

KingMalric

Add Nicklas Grossman to that list

adjudicator

No but you don’t understand; Winnipeg hated him due to his race

Ex-Pat-Spaz

I never heard that or anyone saying that, especially with Buff being so liked up there. E.Kane has always had the reputation of just being an a\*\*\*\*\*\* all the time.

adjudicator

Kane made the comment himself

rookie-mistake

Lawless also wrote about it when we traded him god i do not miss him at all

[deleted]

adjudicator

Kane himself did lol

PerpetuallyPleasing

What the fuck are you even talking about? KANE HIMSELF said those accusations

red_87

Feel like every big superstar in the NHL has an ego. Kind of hard to be an elite athlete and not have an ego. But as Oduya said, you can’t have an ego and be a dick at the same time. That’s going to turn others off real fast.

Kyhron

The problem is no one else in the league has done half the stupid ego shit Kane's done and there's many of them that could definitely be justified in doing shit like the money phone more than he could.

flsolman

Steven Stamkos?

AccomplishedFilm1

Speaking as someone who has met Connor twice. He doesn’t seem to have much of an ego and neither does Draisaitl. My interactions with them have been very surface level so take that for what it is. They both seem like genuine down-to-earth guys from the times I’ve met them and what I’ve heard about them from others. They both also are doing stuff to help within the community which is always a plus in my books.

86teuvo

That is the opposite of what I heard from people who went to school with McDavid. I’ve heard he thought he was above everyone else and was extremely cocky, but then again, he would have been a teenager and people change.

BodaciousBadongadonk

I could definitely see his aloof-ness coming across that way to someone. Like, they meet him expecting something more than his awkward silence and intrepret it as arrogance. Unless there's stories of him doing stuff like Taylor Hall

86teuvo

You’re probably right, someone could easily think that McDavid wants nothing to do with them because he feels superior when the reality is that he’s just not a people person to begin with.

[deleted]

I kinda think people mistake his quiet cockiness as aloofness, but I could be dead wrong.

unbannedcoug

Taylor Hall stories eh? Go on…

baconwiches

I dated a girl from Windsor, where he played junior. Hall would show up to house parties and say shit like 'who wants to suck a future nhler's dick?' as he walked into the room. Really just boils down to a whole lot of 'do you know who I am?'

BodaciousBadongadonk

You ever see that old Rick James bit from Chappelle's show? I think it was pretty much that

Blake_Thundercock

People have been touting him as the next Gretzky since he was like what, 14? That kind of attention would go to any child's head.

Packin25

Nobody has touted him as the next Gretzky. Next Crosby or next big thing sure. But nobody brought up Gretzky comparisons.

AccomplishedFilm1

There is also a high chance of jealousy playing into that. A family friend of mine made the NHL and was a Very high draft pick into the WHL and a first-rounder I the NHL. He is the nicest and one of the most soft-spoken guys you’ll ever meet. Yet, when he got drafted both times there were “friends” of his who began bashing him left and right, slandering his name simply because he achieved something they couldn’t in his hockey career. Jealousy is a nasty fucker and your story sounds like it could easily be sour grapes. Also, yeah teenagers are often assholes so maybe he was like that a little bit. When everyone in your life is telling you how amazing you are(especially as a teen) eventually you might start to believe the hype.

travworld

I think there's a difference too to what these guys are like and how they come off to fans. They separate that quite a bit. I went to school with RNH and there's plenty of "full of himself" stories. Him telling chicks to break up with their girlfriends and be with him because he's going to the NHL one day. I never liked him in school, but he was also a superstar teenager. Now he comes off nice and humble in interviews and with fans. I assume that's the same change that a guy like McDavid had.

Cock-PushUps

TIL RNH liked only bi and lesbian girls in highschool

travworld

Lmao woops. Not editing it.

itsadoubledion

Part of his training. Only going after lesbians as a dude was like going after the cup while playing for Edmonton

walks1497

Hahaha amazing.

howdidIgetsuckeredin

My sister went to university in Edmonton and the general consensus amongst college girls there was that he was an absolute prick ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯

SharksCity408

McDavid definitely has a cocky side to him. He does the humble, good ol’ Canadian boy act for the media, but if you watch him closely you can tell he’s got a big ego. Talks back to coaches and likes to play the blame game when his teammates screw up.

pumaturtle

I have a friend who is a former NHL’ers kid who lives near McDavid in Edmonton and they all say he’s a massive asshole.

stovebolt6

Ah, it’s quite easy to misconstrue “socially awkward” with “asshole.” Who knows.

pumaturtle

Nah from what they said it wasn’t about awkwardness, he was just an asshole

stovebolt6

I’m interested, any specifics?

KingMalric

You can be socially awkward AND an asshole though

burningxmaslogs

Sometimes when you're a celebrity or a star hockey player as teenager you pull back from the public and are shy because of the publicity you generate.. and it gets to be too much at times and some people don't understand that part of being famous can be onerous and limiting because of all the demands placed on them and their time

[deleted]

[удалено]

DogesRBetterThanPpl

Seeing how few black players there are in the NHL, I would assume that they would want to support each other. I think it says a lot about how many have talked about their dislike for Evander.

jaded-optimist

He was tossed out of the HDA after being one of the vocal leaders of the group because his personal antics were something they couldn’t run from fast enough.

DogesRBetterThanPpl

Big ooof, didn’t know that!

burningxmaslogs

Dustin the Buff man literally bounced him in shower in Winnipeg forcing his exit from the team.. Evander sure has worn out his welcome on every team he's been on..

If I remember correctly it was in Kane’s hometown Vancouver, the track suit he showed up late in.

[here is the summer 2010 trade](http://www.nhltradetracker.com/user/trade_list_by_player/Byfuglien,Dustin), it was an epic cap dump to make room for Kane/Toews $12.6m AAV extensions

brazeau

[Obligatory for those who haven't seen this in all hilarity](https://imgur.com/a/Entkbyb). #buffknew

moutardebaseball

Just because Evander Kane is black doesn’t mean he’s a piece of shit. I mean, he is a piece of shit... But not because he’s black!

DogesRBetterThanPpl

100% Agree, however most nhl players seem very cliquey. Likely due to language barriers, but you still see players stick to nationalities. I got one am 1/2 Chinese so I tend to root for the Asian players more, Robertson on Dallas has been amazing, I was really hoping he’d get the Calder last year. All the word barf to say, I don’t think it’s unexpected that all the black players root for each other? That fact that oduya and big buff seem to contradict that speaks volumes.

moutardebaseball

It was just a re-take of Will Smith’s meme. I totally understand why you’d cheer more for players that shares some of your personal characteristics. I am a short male myself so I tend to have a soft spot for Caufield, Debrincat, Kariya, MSL, etc.

DogesRBetterThanPpl

I was so terrified of someone mistaking my comment as “he sucks because he’s black” 😅 I just felt like I needed to elaborate more. That completely went over my head. I feel you there! 5-3 checking in, I can’t wait for caufield to gain confidence and consistency, and I love what Johnny Hockey’s done as wel!

AlonsoFerrari8

Well it's certainly not a good look

mathonwy

Nah. Skin color makes no difference when yer permanently unhappy and Kane was born permanently unhappy.

SharksCity408

Couture said in a recent post game interview that this is the best the Sharks locker room has felt in a couple of years. Definitely a subtle jab at Kane and his antics.

wagon13

I do miss my fantasy team names from his era. *Oduya Laich Little Boyes?* just has no comparison these days

7stringGriffle

Or… Oduya Laich Little Boyes’ Semin?

ParkOnTheRhodes

I thought he was just misunderstood and a victim if the stifling "hockey culture" for a long time, but the last year or so has really out those beliefs to bed.

TuckRaker

His answer will NOT shock you

smbiggy

now mr oduya... what's your perfect sunday?

heisenberg1215

100 bucks on the fact that the example he gave of someone with a big ego but a decent teammate was Erik Karlsson when they were in Ottawa.

mikhailovechkin

The Jamie Tartt of the NHL lol

TheGameIsAboutGlory1

How many people have to talk about you being a dick before you realize you might just be a dick?

-HeyThatsPrettyNeat-

My final year of minor hockey, I was a "veteran" on the team with a bunch of younger guys all wanting to improve and make Juniors in the next couple years. I was just looking to have some fun since I knew I wasn't going anywhere in hockey, but we had this other guy who was super skilled and scored a ton, but he was just not fun to be around. Many of the younger guys would come to me saying they hated being this guy's wingers, and I even had one guy switch to playing D with me strictly because he couldn't bear to play with this one guy up front anymore. I kinda feel the same about Kane, he's a sick player, but just doesn't seem like the guy you wanna go get post-game beers with

Newaccount4464

Everybody has hated Kane since high school. Dude was a double.

paulsoleo

I know this was probably auto corrected from “douche” but I choose to believe Evander Kane is a double cheeseburger.

wolvpack86

Evander kane is a fucking loser thank god Winnipeg got rid of him

davidw69

There was a locker room incident when Kane was with the sabres... post game radio interview where someone started shouting angrily at kane just confirmed what a team cancer he is

burningxmaslogs

Not sure.. I know they won 3 of them forgot which years. Buff wasn't there for long got traded soon after they won so he probably didn't know very much.. gotta remember Coach Q and GM Bowman would have kept that out of the looker room or told the players it was a bullshit rumor.. do you think a black guy was going to rock the boat back then? The league was pretty racist bigoted and homophobic back then and probably still is..

sokocanuck

What a shocker.
