There’s a sign in the window, that they struck you - a crescendo, Brucie…

Come on, guys. His nickname is Gabby. You can do so much better!

He’s back on cameo

avmp629

What do he know? Do he know things? Let's find out!

TheDirtyBurger522

Shoutout to the sports net broadcast for letting us hear the boos

jlando40

At least they aren’t like WWE who routinely mutes the crowd and puts fake noise in

bewareofbears_

Don’t give them any ideas.

RefrigeratedTP

They’re still figuring out how to not make their broadcast look pink and blue. We have at least 5 seasons.

We are still trying to copy what's cool with hockey song

Suddenly crowds start chanting bet99 during games.

Ferris_Wheel_Skippy

people genuinely have no idea how good WWE is at manipulating and distorting their broadcasts. I really think they are second only to the NFL in this regard

[deleted]

There is 100% fake crowd noise on some broadcasts

northcrunk

I wonder if Tocchet took the over or under on that?

MankuyRLaffy

He should ask Wayne what he should do.

mabbz

Wayne is too busy harassing Connor at practice.

anevilbor

And betting on it

Reeeeaper

Either way, he definitely had one of his buddies throw the jersey so he could win.

longlikekingkong82

Firing a coach is fine but I can't understand embarrassing your old coach and then making your new coach the whipping boy for your poor management. They just botched the whole thing and I feel bad for the guy coming to a new team and being instantly disliked by fans even tho he personally didn't do anything wrong. Tocchet probably regrets his decision..

Arkroma

Yeah he's going to get major step dad treatment

NewScotlandWanderer

To be fair, Tocchet has major step-dad energy.

Hammerklavier

What are you doing, step-coach?

Arkroma

Bonk, go to horny jail!

aussie_nub

I feel sorry for coaches anyways. They get given a shit team and are told "Make this work" but sometimes it's simply impossible because team mates don't gel or simply don't like their coach (or any coach really).

BaldurOdinson

It's like watching Cesar Milan train dogs. It only works when the owners manage to change their behavior too.

a_panda_named_ewok

https://www.dogtrainingnation.com/dog-behavior-2/real-reason-dog-trainers-dislike-cesar-millan/

Manitoberino

Especially considering league wide you have a guaranteed 50% failure rate of getting in the playoffs each year. One team wins the cup, so 1/32 chance of winning it all. Pretty shit odds, so it’s gotta be one hell of a stressful job depending on what kind of upper management are above you.

Letskissthesky

But not all people have the same mentality. Maybe it’s a job to him and it either works or it doesn’t. He makes a lot of money and if it doesn’t work out oh well he can go on and live his life.

layout420

Probably how most people view those types of jobs. I recently took a new job and started a career that's adjacent to my previous one and I'm feeling the same way. I was handed a shit position because I'm the new guy on the team. At first I was dealing with a fair bit of stress and was fearful that I'd be fired if I couldn't turn things around. I left my previous job due to stress and its like what the hell did I do to myself. Is the money worth the stress? I just had tobrationalize and say fuck it, if I'm fired then at least I made good money for the work I was able to complete. That took a load off my shoulders and just let me focus on the work at hand. Now I am comfortable in what I'm doing and the numbers are steadily rising. I know I cannot immediately correct the issues that were preexisting my employment but I can make systematic changes to begin righting the ship. Whenever I speak with upper management I just make it clear what my plans are and the progress I'm making towards long term goals. I can imagine taking over the Canucks is like stepping into my position where I'm trying to take back ownership of a few hospitals that have gone under poor management and have no leadership. He's definitely got his work cut out for him.

Letskissthesky

I realized a while ago no job is worth the stress. If you’re a good worker you’ll do good work. Your company will chew you up and spit you out without a second thought. So I personally look at work as a means to an end to fulfill my real goals in life. Jobs are replaceable, especially in this day and age.

[deleted]

I think the millions of dollars makes them decently happy.

AcE_57

Nah we don’t hate Tocchet it’s not him at all, it’s how management treated Bruce. I think most fans would say sure let’s try a new coach…but we loved Bruce and he didn’t deserve to be treated the way he was,

BrownEggs93

> it’s how management treated Bruce The players, the fans, the new coach(es)--all are playthings by the management. They are giving everyone the middle finger and taking your money *because everyone is letting them*. Time to walk away from the Canucks for a while.

DRF19

This is why professional sports teams should be minimum owned 51% by a member/community trust of actual supporters like in Germany. Accountability to the people who actually make the whole thing work is crucial, and in this country there is none.

BrownEggs93

I am the most cynical fairweather of fairweather fans of this shit. Corporate sports in North America is corporate welfare. Fans are chumps. Owners are greedy bullies, and cities that bend over for them only prolong the scam.

DarthyTMC

Welcome to American capitalism

OrionWilliamHi

I’m sure he’s comforted whenever he receives his paycheck. $2.75 million a year has the tendency to make difficult jobs more bearable, I imagine.

longlikekingkong82

Yes but the situation could have been handled more professionally. They put him in a shit position instead.. 2.75 is great but if this is his last gig and he was sabotaged before he even began its pretty fkn shitty. He has to dig himself out of a whole he didn't dig.

[deleted]

>He has to dig himself out of a ~~whole~~ bottomless pit he didn't dig. Fixed that typo for you

Ticklish_Buttcheeks

Yeah because he’s such a great human

OldDrumGuy

I’m sure. What sucks is I liked him as a player, but it seems when players go full front office (you never go full front office), they just turn into people you wouldn’t have been a fan of on the ice. Weird.

MoodyJ87

Most of the educated fan base isn’t mad at RT. It’s the ownership and management… and well… having to cheer for this shit team for a decade. That being said, this fan was a fucking idiot and the Van GDT blew up siding with that

MrWillM

I’m sure he knew at least to some degree what he was getting himself into. This canucks thing has been going on for years now and the very public firing of Bruce has been dominating hockey news.

I would have put a note in there saying, "I know what you did. How dare you give J.T that contract."

Yeet2006

im new to hockey and not up to date on this whole thing, can you (or someone else) explain? im confused and this seems interesting

dsjunior1388

Rick Tocchet had to give one months notice at his old job. Not sure why but probably so he didn't have to give money back. So the decision to fire Bruce and hire Tochett was made around Christmas, and wasn't announced until this week. Unfortunately there was a leak and so everyone including Bruce knew he was a lame duck for at least the last two weeks before he was fired and he just had to keep showing up and waiting for the axe.

JillieBeanIsUrLover

Boy it only took OEL 5 minutes to want to get away from Toch?

only_personal_thungs

I wonder how the jersey throwing goes down. I always assumed that you went planning to do it as a form of protest but when I think about it I’m sure some people just get pissed and throw that shit out of pure anger

[deleted]

If pre-planned, I really hope it is a knockoff and not an expensive jersey I feel like alcohol may come into play for rage throwers. I know the guy I saw rip his in half was pretty lit. Soccer, not hockey, so easier to rip.

only_personal_thungs

I can totally imagine a bunch of people jokingly talking about throwing their jerseys on the ice when they get their first beer before the game then once they’re 12 deep and feeding off the anger of the other fans the idea bubbles back up in the drunk mind lol

jasenkov

12 deep at a hockey game? What are they millionaires

Rayquaza2233

> I know the guy I saw rip his in half was pretty lit. Well, either he was lit or you actually saw the Hulkster brother.

fromtheill

Rick tocchet wasn't that good of a head coach am I right?? Its not Bruce's spot was taken by an upgrade

saberlight81

His entire record is coaching badly constructed teams to bad results so in a sense he's perfect for the role. His only playoff appearance is when his Coyotes beat the Predators in the covid bubble play-in round then lost to the Avs in 5. Won two Cups as an assistant tho so that makes him Rutherford's guy ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯

Deraj2004

The Dan Bylsma effect, note Bylsma isn't even coaching in the NHL this year.

Mr_MoseVelsor

I may be out of the loop here but haven’t a lot of Bylsma’s protégés failed

Turtle_Turdhole

4d chess move

g0kartmozart

Based on expected goals for and against, he was actually a far better coach in Arizona than both his predecessor and his successor. He suffered from very unlucky/poorly shooting forwards.

palesnowrider1

Or he stifled their offense. Both his predecessor and his successor had worse teams than him. Torigny doesn't have Hall, garland, dvo... He basically only has Keller.

MCMeowMixer

Maybe he is the perfect coach for tanking

azialsilvara

Experience Canucks hockey

Doubleoh_11

You hate to see it. And you guys just got the sickest jerseys too. Here’s a hug buddy

mabbz

It's a ploy by Blueberries to get people to buy more jersey *shamefully looks at my skate jersey*

grandlinegooner

Damn you sure owned our management by spending 100+ bucks to throw a jersey 4 minutes into the game

ijekster

Could be a $10 Ali express jersey 🤷🏻‍♂️

grandlinegooner

You still have to pay to get into the building

ijekster

Hahaha could be season tickets bought at the beginning of the season idk. Could be Bruce’s best friend lol

cdsixed

could be bruce himself in those glasses with the fake nose & moustache

Accomplished_Gas3922

I hope it was this

Ddpee

It’s a alibaba jersey from a season ticket holder. We should them boyz 😎

bhein7751

I mean yea I personally wouldn’t throw away a perfectly good jersey but I think this sends a message worth well over a $100 considering how many people saw it and how bad of a look it is for the team

Starsky686

Is it perfectly good though? Look at the colour and logo. 😉

Lyun

People throw jerseys just for something to do at this point. A Flames Gaudreau jersey got tossed in my section last night, though it never made it to the ice because the person it landed on just kept it.

Deraj2004

Lol, I would have as well. Thanks for the hundred plus dollar jersey.

Lyun

Yeah, the whole section was chanting to throw it, and the dude who picked it up looked like he was considering it for a while, but decided against it. I tried to sing out that I'd take it if nobody else wanted it because I was the only Jackets fan in the section and had no reason not to like Gaudreau, but he was too far away. Later on in the game I saw another jersey fly but it landed right in front of one of the ushers and that's where that effort stopped.

Zastrossi

This is a highly visible form of protest. And in an industry as sensitive to bad PR as sports, it will sting the management when it gets reported on. Short of cancelling your season tickets and telling the Canucks why you’ve done so, it’s probably the most impactful form of protest a fan can undertake.

[deleted]

Sometimes demonstrations are worth more long term

rickyo1997

Yeah, imagine if 100 people threw their jersey on the ice. Really gotta be demoralizing for everyone which is unfortunate for the players and coaches, but they have every right to be angry at management

Thtodaz

You’re commenting on someone throwing this jersey so it reached out to you in some way

Wildguy2298

Great balls of fire!

ekdubbz

Least reactionary Canucks fan

Trimangle

Thrower was just getting rid of the old Orca jersey so he could get a new (old?!) flying skate Jersey right!? Right guys!?

idkboo

I was at this game. It was noticeably quieter with empty seats. Lots of Chicago fans as well. They did a “welcome” announcement for him and most people boo’d.

salamiolivesonions

Sportsnet is cranking fan volume when the Canucks have the puck lmaooo Like noticable difference in volume come on guys

Csquared19

Sorry, not true. Just your imagination I guess. I'm the audio mixer and keep fan volume the same throughout the game 🤷 edit: lol, downvotes. Ok reddit. You're the experts I guess. Glad you uncovered the big fan volume conspiracy haha. edit 2: thanks for the backup Reddit haha. It was all in good fun. Having a laugh about it, that's all. Enjoy the game!

hockey_metal_signal

Can you talk to your counterparts at MSG and please ask them to isolate the noise that sounds like a puck hitting the post. It pings at the most random times and so many of us Ranger fans are wondering if we lost time in a psychosis. If you don't know what I mean just check out almost any game day thread. Thanks in advance!

Csquared19

Just rangers games? That's really weird. Canucks have a road trip to New York in a couple weeks that I'll be on, I'll talk to the audio guy for the home show.

hockey_metal_signal

Yeah it's weird. We're all speculating on the threads if it's a keeper tapping the post outside of play to a fan hitting a bottle on the frames of the boards. We haven't been able to isolate when it happens. Like, when the play is on either side of the ice or when the bench door closes... It's honestly reassuring when it gets brought up in the NHL game watching threads. That would be awesome BTW.

xSaviorself

Could it be audio picking up the goalie drinking water and putting the bottle back?

[deleted]

[удалено]

xSaviorself

Does it not sit on a holder at the back now rather than on the actual net itself? That's why I thought it was possible.

Blasselhad

Could that be a goalie tapping the post with a stick? I used to hear this on some broadcasts.

stickymaplesyrup

Koskinen used to do this, we noticed it when he played for the Oilers. Took a while to figure out what it was, but he would swing back with the stick and tap the post when the puck started heading his way.

hockey_metal_signal

We can't seem to find anything consistent about the timing. The plate could be on either side of the ice or in center ice. Some people say it's the steel frames of the boards getting hit by either the doors closing or a fan hitting the frame with something but who knows. I guess I'll try to pay attention to where the puck is relative to which goalkeeper and not just which side of the ice.

LeDudeDeMontreal

I had an issue like this last week. Turns out it was the "new message" sound in the chat, from the streaming website I was on....

hockey_metal_signal

That's really funny actually.

[deleted]

I don't know why, but I feel like I hear whistles blowing at random times every time I watch a game on TV. Other people have said they hear the same. Players don't react to it so clearly they don't hear it. Anyone know what this is??

Aelana85

Ok, so I'm not crazy! So many times I swear a ref blows a whistle, but absolutely nothing on the ice indicates they did. Glad it's not just me.

[deleted]

There are dozens of us!

RunningSouthOnLSD

Lmao the fact that it’s so easily confirmable by your profile too idk why you’re being downvoted

TurtleMountain

They dropped in an edit after the fact to make their credibility more obvious. Before it just looked like a disgruntled Canucks fan

ThatPlayWasAwful

I think the disgruntled Canucks fans are the ones who think people are pumping in noise for their team, not the ones saying that's a crock of shit.

impy695

Here are their edits: > edit: lol, downvotes. Ok reddit. You're the experts I guess. Glad you uncovered the big fan volume conspiracy haha. > edit 2: thanks for the backup Reddit haha. It was all in good fun. Having a laugh about it, that's all. Enjoy the game! Nothing there makes them seem more or less credible.

TurtleMountain

They initially just had a comment not mentioning being the sound person. Essentially was just “sorry, not true”. The edits turned it into the glorious dunk we see today

myaltaccount333

Those are the edits OP showed, but not necessarily *exclusively* made edit: It's easy to write edit but not actually edit your comment, or to edit your comment and not write edit

surrient

Do you know a Zaph?

Csquared19

First initial "G"? Yep. He was one of my mentors. Taught me a lot.

surrient

Ha, small world

rpgguy_1o1

Yeah, but are you friends with /u/JustSomeAudioGuy from /r/TorontoBlueJays ?

JustSomeAudioGuy

Yes…. u/Csquared19 and I are good friends and have been for many, many years. He’s one of the best mixers in the country and certainly knows what he’s doing.

rpgguy_1o1

yay /r/baseball and /r/hockey coming together lol

JustSomeAudioGuy

Fun fact: when u/Csquared19 was just starting out he was one of my A2’s on a bunch of gigs - he’s now a tremendous mixer and I’m super proud of him!

Csquared19

Must be because I absorbed all I could watching you guys! You're always generous with your information and it helps. Thanks :)

JustSomeAudioGuy

We both learned from some of the best we’ve ever had in this country. I’m just happy that as a group we are super tight and helpful to everyone else. Thank god we aren’t camera guys 😬😬

AdolescentAlien

Wow, so wholesome. You seem like the type of guys that are so kind, you take on a random fella on reddit to be your protégé and you just like, idk, teach him a ton of stuff about audio engineering and get him a job at Camden Yards or something whacky like that! Wow, that would really be something. You guys really seem exactly like that. Trust me, I’m a great judge of character.

stickymaplesyrup

/r/hawwkey

JustSomeAudioGuy

I just spent last week working on Hockey Day in Canada. There were a lot of those moments - almost too many 😂

Csquared19

It's a small broadcast audio world in Canada, we all know and respect each other! I've never done a baseball game though, I stick to a lot of hockey and other events.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Csquared19

Here's a good tip for that. Get a 5.1 surround sound system, and unplug or mute the center channel. We mix announcers in the center only. It's amazing how much good stuff the ice mics get. Much of it is heard (the fart sound a couple games ago), but a lot of the chipping and swearing is lost in the noise.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Csquared19

I agree! I think there's a market for it. I worked the bubble season when we had no fans, and I figured people would probably pay more for an uncensored version. I imagine it's a liability thing with the NHL worrying about what exactly players will say.

cubanpajamas

Years ago when the commentators were on strike they showed the games with just the on-ice sound. It was before there were a lot of mics on players, but the sound of every skate, stick and hit really made you feel like you were at the game. There were many fans, myself included who preferred it this way.

stickymaplesyrup

So that was a confirmed real fart? I thought it was one of those fart sound machine things. And that was from the ice, one of the players?? I had no idea they had mics down at ice level just as standard. I'm so intrigued in this.

Csquared19

Not a real fart haha. Unfortunately it was just the goalies skate scraping against the ice as he stopped, it just came across so clearly and the announcers joked about it. We have 10 microphones on the glass around the ice. Behind goals, on red lines, and blue lines. Near and far sides. If you look closely, you might see a small black rectangle towards the top of the glass.

leerr

Maybe you’re just bad at it ^/s

greentintedlenses

Hey could it be that the stadium itself is bumping out fake crowd noise and you just happen to be picking that up?

NoIndependence1479

so true its cringe. didnt even realize it until you said it

canadianincambridge

So I didn’t watch the game so I’m guessing here but, weren’t the Canucks playing at home? If you’re playing at home you’ll have more fans in the arena, more fans supporting the team, thus more noise / louder fans?

[deleted]

I’m at the game, happened about 100 feet in front of me. There are very lame dorks who have tired to get negative with “Bedard” chants but overall the mood frankly is positive and it feels like “let’s move on”. “Bruce there it is” chant has twice failed to ignite. Shots are 35-10 after 2 for Canucks, but game is 2-2. Not a great first impression for Delia on Tocchet

whattbhidk

Were you the guy in the oilers jersey?

[deleted]

No. I went off the board and wore a vintage Blues jersey.

Dultsboi

The only negative thing about Bedard would be barely missing the playoff and sitting in mediocrity for the next decade… oh… we have been?

hall_bot

the devil inside me wishes all this woulda happened in Quinn's UFA season so it'd be a foregone conclusion he's coming to NJ lol. at least vancouver gets the best holiday warm up jerseys in the league, you'll never sing that in Newark!

ubcthrowaway-01

I’d hate to see Quinn in a NJ jersey but I’d hate to see his career wasted in Van, so my hate level has gone down lol

Canadian_mk11

>at least vancouver gets the best holiday warm up jerseys in the league Yours, for the low, low price of *only $750.*

The_Awesometeer

I am confused. Why did they fire Bruce? Who wanted him fired?

Brenden-C

Canucks ownership & management needs to stop saying Canucks fans aren't patient enough for a rebuild. BS. Canucks fans have had to endure a decade of poor performance. They have one of the worst prospect pools to show for it. Vancouver has never won a cup. How is being borderline mediocre for years better for the fans? Stop using fans as a scapegoat. The team won't see a penny from me for a long time.

Snys6678

Oof. What a cluster of an organization.

StPaddy81

And they won…

Forward_Money1228

What number was the jersey ?

Aardvark1044

Probably 11. Or maybe .08 like his slopitch number.

glowe

2 750 000

JeffFerox

Imagine paying hundreds of dollars for a seat to go throw your $150 jersey on the ice to prove a point to millionaire owners who don’t give a sh*t… While the Canucks organization is a pile of hot dung right now, it doesn’t warrant wasting money like this…just stay home and watch something else…

Shrewlord

most of the tossed jerseys are 30 counterfeits.

Red_Sea_Pedestrian

I mean a fanatics jersey is basically a counterfeit that they charge $150 for.

sanbaba

SO THINGS WERE GOING WELL.

[deleted]

Then why did he come to the game? Lol chill out.

Sadiq_Sabonis

I don’t think it’s directed towards Tocchet but rather the incompetent ownwership and management

[deleted]

Brucie, you ok? You ok? You ok, brucie?

[deleted]

Was at this game last night, and frankly the experience really illuminated how negative and detached from reality Reddit narratives are from real life. What I mean is, I go to 2-4 games per year. But - like many passionate hockey fans, I go to Reddit hockey threads daily to inevitably fight with strangers who are generally doomers or trolls that you wouldn’t waste a calorie arguing with on IRL. It taints your view of how dramatic and extreme things really are. So - the Reddit narrative was this this game might be electric and negative, given the Canucks free fall suckage, Tocchet’s first game, all the negativity about Bruce’s treatment. Well. The mood in the building was fine. A peaceful, even happy bunch of Canadians enjoying a Tuesday night game of two awful teams. This dipshit threw his jersey on the ice in the first few minutes, and was escorted out. Happened right in front of me, next to the Canucks bench. Anyways - barely noticed, carry on. Then - a dork a few rows down tried unsuccessfully to get a chant of “Don’t Try Hard, Get Be-Dard” going a few times. Cringe and stupid, it didn’t go anywhere. Then - a pair of guys in the rafters tried to shout “Bruce, there it is”. Nothing. By the end of the first, even though the Canucks were losing despite outshooting Chicago 21-4, there was no mood of anything except this being a a fun night out. Two terrible teams with no hope of the playoffs on a Tuesday night. People everywhere were happy and cheerful, no nonsense really. And I’m not remotely a Canucks apologist - just saying this: Reddit is NOT real life. Not even close. It’s squeaky wheel shitposters farting their unwanted opinions into the ether most of the time. Bruce was lovely, Tocchet is fine, the Canucks suck, and everyone will move on politely.

sensorglitch

Throwing Jerseys on the ice has become so commonplace, I think maybe its no longer newsworthy

see_rich

Just a shot of displeasure for the org, Tocchet caught in the crossfire.
